It'll be an alternative merry Christmas for us this year ;)

Sorry rek21 I don't know any stats on chances of your placenta moving. I know that they can (and do) move but can't remember any more detail. Sorry. Am sure belgian will be much more useful! How long do you have to wait for your next scan?
On the buggy debate I think Maclaren's are great too (but prob not for a newborn?) although after a few months will be fine. I have an old McLaren I've had for about 7 yrs and which cost about £40 quid originally and its pretty battered now but gets pulled out for holidays etc when I don't want the two-piece Bugaboo and it's still going strong! Everyone I know with a MacLaren likes them. Don't know what an Obaby is though........may have to have a quick google!

nauseous I'd try as many as you can get your hands on and ask as many buggy-pushing mummies for opinions as you can before spending the cash. Even the cheaper ones are hardly cheap!

ladyhelen2 · 15/01/2009 20:02

Hello ladies,
I think its time that I took the plunge and joined you lovely ladies.

I've been the occassional lurker but mostly post on the knicker checkers thread due to three mcs in the last 20 months , but as I'm now 24 + 4, I think its time to join you too!

I'm due 3rd May. Have a beautiful DS who is 3years 7 months. I'm in the East midlands area.

I see you've been discussing buggies -I'll add my tuppence worth! We had a Mutsy with DS1 and will be reusing it again. We loved it when DS was a baby. It comes with a car seat that relines which was fab and cannot recommend highly enough. Its like the Quinny where you buy the chassis and then whatever attachements you need, so we had the car seat and pushchair. Its quite bulky which is the only downside, but looks great and pushed like a dream!

So hello all, I look forward to getting to know you better over the next few weeks.

runningmonkey · 15/01/2009 20:16

Hi ladyhelen rek The rosie for me, firstimer and a good friend had a hideous homebirth experience with her first so its put me off totally. From the list I think we're only due a week apart as well so we may well overlap in there!

RE buggies, PIL's bought us the Hauck infinity from kiddicare (mentioned it a while back), got a carrycot, carseat and pushchair. Beneefit for me is that its got a low handle which is good for me being a shorty, but its adjustable so DH can push it too. I now keep seeing people with the same one everywhere!

Belgianchocolates · 15/01/2009 20:28

rek21 From what you describe (placenta being centrally on top of your cervix), it sounds like you've got a grade 4 placenta praevia. Unfortunately this is the severest form and it is unlikely it will move and so you will need a c/s because your placenta is in the way. It also means you're at high risk of bleeding during pregnancy. If it is really grade 4, than you should be refered for consultant care.

As for buggies: you can't beat a Maclaren if you want a sturdy stroller that can fit in any boot, go on busses and planes for holidays. I bought my Maclaren 7 years ago for £50 and even though I've had all sorts of other bigger buggies, with all sorts of other features, the Maclaren is the only one I've never got rid off. It just lives in the boot of the car and has been so useful for holidays because it takes in so little space. On top of that it has been such a strong little buggy too, it's still in perfect condition albeit with some stains on the fabric! I think with this baby I'll get another Maclaren to live in the boot when s/he is a bit older and grown out of the travel system. Even though the Maclaren is still with us I just feel that this lo will have the right to a nice clean looking one.

LoobyLou36 · 15/01/2009 20:40

Hi LadyHelen glad to see you've got on to this thread. Welcome. Due the same day - wonder who'll be first?

Did you find out the flavour at your scan?

We have bought a second hand Quinny Buzz from ebay. Was DH's favourite when I dragged him off to pram shop in town for a test drive!

rek21 · 15/01/2009 20:51

Hi ladyhelen really sorry to hear about your previous mcs but really glad you've joined us now!

runningmonkey we could well see each other in the Rosie particularly if I'm in for an early c-section (last one was at 39 weeks). The mdeical staff are great but the midwives are rushed off their feet and the ward is pretty depressing. Its reasurring to have such competent people around when you're a first timer though, and its only a couple of days (max) after all.

delighted, next scan is Feb 10th. Feels like an age, but I'm going to see my GP and a consultant in the meantime (appointment was already booked because of previous c-section). I know what you mean about the maclaren for newborns but in theory it is suitable from birth. As I say I'm hoping to use the sling at least at the start. The Obaby is a cheap as chips stroller but its been brilliant (although again not from birth).

Anyhow time for some bought-in-the-sale christmas pudding . In my defence we all had norovirus at Christmas so we couldn't exactly over-eat!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 15/01/2009 20:52

I'm quite jealous of Moonlit, choo-chooing and not following the farmyard massive

I may practice a whole range of noises for the next. Animal/vehicle who knows!!

Rek - I think I had that ruddy Urban detour thing - ours kept puncturing and was a absolute nightmare. Grrrrr.

Lady Helen welcome!!!

rek21 · 15/01/2009 21:02

Sorry Belgian cross-posted. Thanks for your information - I suspected it might be quite bad, but was hoping there was a higher chance of it moving. Can only hope that the more detailed scan shows something different but to be honest I could see for myself on the last scan - with absolutely no training! Anyhow, as DH says at least its been discovered - 100 years ago we'd have been really in the poo.

I really know what you mean about wanting nice new things for the baby - I feel sad that DD2 won't have many new clothes or even bedding and towels. On the other hand I'm relieved we don't have to shell out for everything again!

llareggub · 15/01/2009 21:12

I had an appointment with the midwife today, and after seeing countless consultants, specialist midwives and nurses, it was really nice to see someone to actually said "all seems fine then!" I could have kissed her.

She spent ages looking for the heartbeat and kept apologising and said she'd keep at it until she found it. She did eventually, really low down. She was also very sorry that I had to wait for so long on, but I was very happy to sit in the waiting room with my book as it was very restful. I hardly ever get time to myself during the day.

DS and I went to look at a pre-school today. He was fine, took his coat off, hung it up and went off to play. I could have left him there I think. I'm ringing another one tomorrow in the next village, which sounds perfect and has an outstanding Ofsted. The pre-school provision is so variable really.

bekkaboo · 15/01/2009 21:29

Hi Llaregubb, I too have an planned CS this time, can I ask when your due? and how long before EDD you will be having CS? I was told it would be 37 weeks depending on BP but midwife says 39 weeks!

What happens if I go in labour 10 early in middle on night?

llareggub · 15/01/2009 21:33

bekkaboo, my CS is on 27 April but I'm due 12 May. My consultant did say that if things seem fine they'll leave me until 4 May, but he is pretty sure it'll be 27 April.

I had DS1 at 37 weeks and he was 8 pounds 12 then, and he was another c-section. I did actually go into labour (I was induced) but after 12 hours they decided the c-section as the better option.

bekkaboo · 15/01/2009 21:36

Guess Ill have to wait and see what consultant says when I see him in April, 39 weeks seems close but understand reasons why, but DS1 was 10 days early and the consultant said I would def have CS before labour started naturaly etc

llareggub · 15/01/2009 21:43

I do feel like it is getting a lot closer. I think I need to start thinking about sorting through DS's old baby clothes to see if we need anything.

Is it your BP they are worried about bekkaboo? I'm quite happy to have the c-section at 38 weeks as last time I was really uncomfortable from about 30 weeks.

bekkaboo · 15/01/2009 21:54

Not so much worried but was a massive issue with DS last time, I had terible experience and have really suffered this time already with anxiety etc, when we seen consultant he said best option for me and that discussing everything from previous wouldnt help me at the moment (was breathing into bag at time) Last time was General Ane and likely to be same this time, but the thought of starting befor the CS feels me with dread. This all sounds a but mad really, but I did ask him if I was mental and he said it was understandable adgter last time!

bekkaboo · 15/01/2009 21:55

Im hoping the CS will not be left till 39 weeks for this reason

llareggub · 15/01/2009 22:00

I'm not expert but I'm sure I read somewhere that elective c-sections are generally done at 38 weeks. I'm probably wrong though, I usually am!

I'm sure it'll be fine this time. I'm certainly more relaxed this time around and at least by knowing what to expect we can prepare and be a bit stroppier assertive at the hospital. I really wasn't assertive enough with DS and had an awful time of it.

Belgianchocolates · 15/01/2009 22:05

bekka Don't know your previous birth story, but are you suffering from post traumatic stress after your last delivery? Your anxiety and the fact that you were hyperventilating when discussing delivery with your consultant seem to be signs that you are.

pulapula · 15/01/2009 22:09

bekkaboo- here c-sections are done at 39 weeks, but given your anxiety, they may be willing to perform yours earlier.

I was dreading going into labour before mine was due to take place last time although they did say that if i went into labour then i'd just go in and they'd do an em one instead. The day before mine was due to take place was the day of the serious floods in Sheffield (June 2007) and as we lived near the hospital we had no problem getting in the next day (had to be there for 7am!). However many staff couldnt get in and some equipment was affected by power cuts, so it looked like it would have to be postponed but luckily i was first on the list, so was allowed to stay. So glad.

bekkaboo · 15/01/2009 22:11

Hi yeah I am but not telling people that, It all starting from 7 weeks pg, up until then I didnt think about last time apart from being grateful for my baby. I feel much better this last couple of weeks (think knowing im getting help) the panic attacks have calmed down

Belgianchocolates · 15/01/2009 22:11

Just to add, yes elective c/s's often happen at 38 weeks. Often you can negotiate the timing with the drs if there are no real problems, though. So bekka if you're not happy with having your c/s at 39 weeks then I'm sure that it can be moved to be done a bit earlier.

Oh and rek your husband is right. At least now we know in advance that someone has placenta praevia. In the past it used to only be discovered if the woman started haemorrhaging or if someone felt placenta during an internal when the woman was in labour. Scary...

bekkaboo · 15/01/2009 22:13

I would also just like to say that my thought have been very very irrational, about very strange things and that it isnt just 1 thing, a lot of the panic have been unrelated to pregnancy like I was loosing my mind.

Belgianchocolates · 15/01/2009 22:17

bekka I'm happy to hear that you're getting help. Have you read Birth Crisis by Sheila Kitzinger? It's a good book and really opened my eyes to the problem. Before that I was only vaguely aware of it, but it's surprising how many women suffer from it.

bekkaboo · 15/01/2009 22:19

Hi not read it, I have lots of support but we tend not to discuss this sort of thing until it rears his head again. I took DS out today on own for 1st time since being PG, All the time I as sweating and had belly ache! Amazing that once home all was ok again.

Thanks for all your kind words tonight ladies

Belgianchocolates · 15/01/2009 22:20

Hmm, my typing is a bit slow I think. I keep cross posting, bekka. I hope that you'll get better soon now you're getting help.
