It'll be an alternative merry Christmas for us this year ;)

pula - this is not in any way a professional opinion (as I said far too long ago) but I didn't feel the 'urge' to push with either of mine. First time I pushed because I was told to (the m/w examined me as I had requested diamorphine, waters broke all over the m/w at which point they could see her head)! Second time similar thing really - except had an epidural in and waters had already gone - was examined as hadn't progressed from 4cm in 12 hrs and they were talking emergency c/s, then suddenly they saw her head - could feel pressure and discomfort but not a real urge to push I wouldn't say. But with both it only took a couple of pushes and about 5-10 mins they were born. Both mine were in a good position, not back to back though.

So after all that rambling, no I have not (so far anyway) felt a proper 'urge to push'.

But maybe if I do the homebirth thing this time I might get the urge?.....or maybe the baby will just fall out [hopeful emoticon]

delightedoldbag34 · 14/01/2009 22:43

llare - stay here, don't leave us pleeeeease?

Anyway I've heard the ladies on the April thread aren't as nice as us

SpangleMaker · 14/01/2009 22:44

Delighted I for one am happy to listen to a buggy bore I'm after all the info I can get!

Welcome belgianchocolates

Had midwife appt today. All appears to be fine & dandy. I'm amazed how they can tell which way up the baby is! Bubs seems to be head down, slightly diagonal with bum top right & head low down left. Fits with the big kicks at the top and more 'fiddly' movements down there. I guess he's still moving around a lot though.

Am so tired tonight but still have to sort out a few things for a hen weekend before bed, as I'm out tomorrow. Was a bit when I was first asked but sounds like it'll be a very civilised affair - we're staying in a cottage in the Cotswolds, having a murder mystery evening on Fri then going to a play in Stratford on Saturday. Am quite envious - my hen night was typical drunken night-on-the-town affair!

SpangleMaker · 14/01/2009 22:45

llareggub stay here! There are bound to be some of us popping them out in April (hopefully not before!)

llareggub · 14/01/2009 22:46

I live very close to Stratford, Spangle! I love visiting Stratford, particularly at this time of year. Have a great weekend.

llareggub · 14/01/2009 22:46

Thanks.....it seems really weird knowing when it is going to happen.

pulapula · 14/01/2009 22:47

llareggub- stay here- i was the same in my last pg- due 2/7 but csection booked for 26/6. I stayed with the due in July thread and it was much better being an early one than waiting til the end of the month lol! And although afterwards I dipped into both post-natal threads, the july thread was always my favourite!

pulapula · 14/01/2009 22:50

And i wasn't the first one either- i'm sure someone will be early!

llareggub · 14/01/2009 22:51

Yes, I'm sure they will. Just felt a fraud knowing I'll be early!

I've just watched New Kids On the Block on the lottery show, and I'm very to admit that I was a huuuuuge fan in my younger and sillier days. What on EARTH did I see in them?!

SpangleMaker · 14/01/2009 22:53

Thanks! If you happen to see a rabble of noisy women one of whom has a big round bump you'll know it's me!

detsy · 14/01/2009 22:55

Hallo girls, I'm back and have been trawling through pages and pages of posting to catch up! Congrats on all the scans and good news and welcome to all the new ladies as well

So then flying - no problem at all other than general discomfort if its long haul (my company cocked up my return from Dubai and had me in economy so i uograded at HUGE cost and will reclaim on expenses - silly people to think I'd do an almost 8 hour flight squished when I've worked all weekend and am hugely preggers!!)

DVT is more of a risk so def wear the compression socks and wriggle about a lot even on short journey. Most airlines need a reference letter from MW for flights taken when 28 - 35/36 weeks (single uncomplicated pregnancies - think its different for multiples..)

Don't think altitude should be a problem although you may get more breathless which I found in SA which is only 2000m above sea level but then it was hot and sticky as well which didn't help I guess.

Bugaboo Bee is great, Maxi Cosi car seat fits on it with adaptors for newbies. I agree with Delighted tho - the seat is smallish and doubt it will last us to 4 years old. However for manouverability (wow big word!!) and ease of getting up and down its brill. No good for "off road" ie beaches, fields, mud. I think we are just going to get the baby nest and see what happens regards logistics with a newborn and an 18 month old - think it will be an investment in a double buggy. I'm puttin my Quinny Buzz with Dreamicosi carrycot, raincovers, sunshade bla bla on e bay soon if anyone is interested - its like new (sulphur/lemonade colourway may be a bit bright for some...

"Delighted" deep breaths about the birth! In a weird way I'm really looking forward to it (mine not yours..!!) If you did a HB would that be in a pool or not? Have to agree that the fear of mess on the carpet puts me off but then my hospital experience was okay by comparison to a lot of the tales on here. I'm hoping for a hospital water birth but guess we'll see what happens in May.

Off to bed now - DP ill last night and was awake with him and tonight DD got a MMR reaction and was grizzly till late. Night night everyone x

detsy · 14/01/2009 23:02

llaregub you have to stay here! It will go both ways for some people and some will pop in April and some in June but will be nice if we all stick together having been through it all together!!

Spangle - hello! Glad all is well with bump - we should grab a coffee again soon and you can wheel the Bee about!

My secret hopes for another pink one have been outed with DP and he agrees as well which really surprised me. Am seriously thinking about finding out now....hmmm what to do, what to do

detsy · 14/01/2009 23:07

Gosh delighted no urge to push with your babies? Thats amazing and think you are quite lucky.... I really didn't like that pressure and desperate need to push, made me panic a bit but then I suppose I know what to expect this time (I'm a bit lot fanny phobic )

Ok am def going to bed now - taraa girls x

Moonlit · 14/01/2009 23:53

Ladies my DH has said YES, YES, YES YES!!!!

Hurrah!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to call Babybond tomorrow and book my appointment! I am so happy....can you tell

RE: Bugaboo bee, I would love one! But they are so expensive and their prices just went up on some websites I have seen!

pulapula · 15/01/2009 07:44

re. pushchairs I have had a phil&teds (£100 from a friend) for a few weeks which has changed my life! its so easy to push (especially up and down curbs) and you can get in and out of shops no trouble. DD and DS love it and it should be great for DS and DS2 next summer. The only drawback is that it is bulky and heavy so needs a bit boot. Also it doesnt have the advantages of a travel system which i would really recommend to new mums as you can then move LO from car to pushchair to car back home without the need to move them and wake them up (essential when you need them to have a good sleep). I know the recommendation is not to let newborns sleep in carseats (they should be flat) but when you have been up all night, then its a godsend sometimes (and you can keep an eye on them).

pulapula · 15/01/2009 07:46

moonlit- well done on talking your DH round. Is he coming with you and does he want to know, or is he just ok about you finding out?

Moonlit · 15/01/2009 07:49

Morning Pulapula - He is happy to come with me and find out for my happiness awwwww!!!! It's funny how men will do anything for you when you are pregnant

alapala · 15/01/2009 08:48

Hooorray Moonlit, much the better solution!

Detsy et al - i know what you mean by the Bug bee being narrow, but as DS is tall and skinny am thinking DS2 will be the same? I tried DS in it in the shop and at nearly 2 he still fit well with his coat on.

Right - off to the office with DS in tow. His nanny got whiplash yesterday when their car slid on ice. My boss will love me! I seem to be the only person driving any slower in madrid due to snow and ice!

nauseous · 15/01/2009 08:59

Morning all. Fascinated but a bit mystified by all the buggy talk - its like a whole new language to a first timer!!

What would be a good option for one baby, with average height parents with dodgy necks and backs, and lots of steps to get up and down, who don't have a car, use mostly public transport ... and who prefer quieter colours?!

nauseous · 15/01/2009 09:00

Moonlit I have the opposite thing with finding out; I didn't want to and DH did - but we didn't as like you say being preggers gets you special privileges once in a while.

20 week scan went well, was quite exciting. Can't believe there's no more scans now! Shame! If money was no option I'd have one a month!

Momino · 15/01/2009 09:25

morning all.
i think i'm just going to ignore that I'll have to go through labour until a month before the EDD. isn't there a thread about birth/labour? i wouldn't mind trying hypno-birthing but not sure want to spend so much money. As it is, my £190 will probably be swallowed up by my huge overdraft that grew over Christmas .

another subject, got back from nursery run and that buggy is so heavy with a 3 year old and 16 month old, plus 2 rucksacks and a potty in a carrier bag. had to steer P&T with one arm which wasn't very easy. I think it's time for 3 year old to walk to nursery.

Lazzer · 15/01/2009 09:46

Hello all,

One of my oldest friends (known her for 25 years) has discovered she is 5 months pregnant - and had no idea! She's now quite worried about if the baby is ok etc and has her scan next Monday. Luckily she's not really a drinker but she does have the odd cigarette!

Can't imagine not going through/being oblivious to all the hell of the first 4 months (sickness, tiredness, worries of miscarrying, worries of everything really). She has had no symptons, and even had what she though was a few periods in between. Must be such a shock, but they are happy.

Unfortunately she is due in May next year but also getting married in July (and coming back to the UK for the wedding as she lives in Tel Aviv). Eeek!

Thought this though of thing only happened in Eastenders!!

nauseous · 15/01/2009 10:38

Oh my god that must have been a shock! But also exciting. I'm curious - how did she find out in the end?? I know someone in a similar position who just felt a very definite kick one day day and that was that...!

Belgianchocolates · 15/01/2009 10:48

Pula Sorry I didn't get back to you last night. I was having my nightly bath. It really soothes my SPD. It's true some women don't get the urge to push, but it could be that you didn't have the urge because you were in the transition phase and they got you to push to early or the fact that you had the ventouse wouldn't have helped either. It usually feels like you really really need the toilet and I often find that women don't tell me and I can see them bearing down all of a sudden. Then when I ask if they're pushing half the time they say 'No'! That's quite funny from where I'm standing, because I can clearly see they are, so maybe that means that sometimes women push and don't recognise what they are doing IYKWIM.

Talking about bumps getting bigger with each baby. Mine seems huge for 24 weeks, bigger than with the other 2. But it's my boobs that really get me. I've gone from a 32C pre-pregnancy to a 36F now. With my other 2 I only went up 1 cup size and when I was measured around 18 weeks that bra lasted me until I was nearly due and got myself my nursing bras. Now I was a 36D at 18 weeks and 6 weeks later I've blossomed to a 36F! I just can't imagine what they'll be like when my milk comes in. I'll be bigger than Jordan!

Lazzer · 15/01/2009 10:49

Well, she realised she hadn't had a 'period' since November (hers are erratic anyway) then took a test when she got back last week from the UK after Xmas. She thought she'd just be one month pregnant but turns out she is 22 weeks (so her doc says).
