It'll be an alternative merry Christmas for us this year ;)

grumpyoldcaaaaaaaaaa - am giggling at your physio, she sounds like fun

delightedoldbag34 · 14/01/2009 21:57

not giggling at the SPD though. No fun at all I believe. My physio friend assures me that certain exercises can really help though?

Belgianchocolates · 14/01/2009 22:00

Totally understand the buggy obsession. Being baby 3 I know exactly what I want, unfortunately it doesn't exist;)
It needs to have high handles (I'm tall), big basket, rear and forward facing, easy to open and close, have a carry cot, take a car seat and look good. I've gone for the Mamas and Papas Skate, because it ticks nearly all my boxes (and was £275 off yonks ago). I'd have gone for the Bebeconfort Loola otherwise, but the handles are just a little to low for me! I love buggies and probably would have about 10 if I could afford it!

llareggub · 14/01/2009 22:00

I'm starting to get twinges in my pelvis, particularly after marching up the hill today at work. I really hope I don't get SPD again. I had it last time and found it really painful after about 30 weeks. Does anyone know if it always comes back or might I be lucky this time?

Jennster · 14/01/2009 22:02

Well I'm a PhilnTeds convert from the Buzz. We had one for a while. It was great while dd was in the carrycot, but I didn't like the pushchair bit. Even though it had inflated tyres, it wasn't easy to steer or push compared to the PnT.

Belgianchocolates · 14/01/2009 22:03

As far as I know it tends to come back and unfortunately it's worse in subsequent pregnancies. I know that with dc1 it was mild and started about 24-26 weeks, dc2 it started at 20 weeks and this pregnancy I felt the first signs the minute I was pregnant! So now I feel like I felt at the end of my pregnancy with my dd even though I'm only 24 weeks.

Belgianchocolates · 14/01/2009 22:04

'It' being SPD.

sausagenmash · 14/01/2009 22:06

Right, that's it. I am going to splash out and buy the red bugaboo. Need to save a bit first tho ..... hurrah! Thanks delightedoldbag34!!! (and you feel old? I qualified as a nurse 15 years ago!!)

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 14/01/2009 22:13

Belgiancocolates

The Fembrace is strange and uncomfortable, but should be good for during work days when get used to it (I have really bad posture too, so may help with that). I also have the Tubigrip bandage that I can wear (starts just under my HUGE boobs and stretches down to top of my thighs, sexy!), which is more comfy and I like to think of it as my casual weekend wear, they really do help as they take a lot of the pressure off the poor overloaded pelvis. Also have my strengthening exercises that I think will really help.

I still waddle though......

Oh and welcome by the way - did I read you're a 3rd time mum too? It is a very good club to be in!

I am confused by pushchair talk, haven't used a pushchair since DD2 was 2 a couple of years ago.....she likes running EVERYWHERE

Belgianchocolates · 14/01/2009 22:18

I waddle too. I was waddling before people could see I was pregnant and doctors at work were asking me why I was walking funny! My bump had a growth spurt last week and now they've finally stopped asking

delightedoldbag34 · 14/01/2009 22:20

sausagenmash - shop around and you might get a deal on one. When I got mine there were absolutely no deals on Bugaboo to be had (although I did manage to get John lewis to give me the Maxi cosi car seat worth £99 for free with it but that was because an internet company were doing it online (but were out of stock for the next 12 wks or something - so actually doubt that the deal really existed) but I told John lewis and they did their price matching thing (which took about a week) so I got it.
Anyway I have seen a few offers online recently so I'd have a look - you might make a bit of saving. Or find a good deal online then take it to John Lewis to price match - then you get the bargain without the risk of dealing with a possibly dodgy internet company..... Red ones are fab by the way.

llareggub · 14/01/2009 22:21

Another waddler here!

My bump is really quite obvious now, and I had to endure a full and frank discussion of my bump at work today. Luckily there was agreement that I'm thinner from the back than I was before, so at least the enforced diet has had some benefits!

delightedoldbag34 · 14/01/2009 22:23

Oh and John Lewis are fab for spending the time showing you how to put the bug up and down, attach all the different bits etc (as with all these things there is a knack to it - then it's so easy)

God, am talking buggy again.
Stop, stop, stop!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 14/01/2009 22:24

'Chocolates' not 'cocolates'

Sorry Belgian......

Just had another piece of banana bread to boost brain power and ward off Restless (fat)legs.

llareggub · 14/01/2009 22:24

I'm not sure what Bugaboo prices are but we are but we had a really good deal on the Quinny Buzz when we bought it in 2006. We had the Dreami carry-cot, car-seat, buggy, bag, rain-covers etc for a really good price, and I shopped around quite a bit.

We bought it from the baby barn and they have a massive range of buggies in store. They have pretty much everything you can think of needing for babies, and more!

delightedoldbag34 · 14/01/2009 22:29

llaregub poor you being discussed at work. At least they decided you look slimmer. I hate all that 'you're huge' , 'you're very neat' chat. Makes me feel uneasy because I know that every time I'm pg I look like the side of a house by about 16 wks. I just do. However slim I am at conception I just balloon. And I'm not keen on it, TBH!

llareggub · 14/01/2009 22:31

The funny thing is, we haven't told anyone at work what we're having. So it was funny that all of the women were in agreement that I must be having a girl because of the way I'm carrying.

I didn't tell them he is a boy!

delightedoldbag34 · 14/01/2009 22:31

I think my Bugaboo cost £599 all in (but we got the maxi cosi car seat included which is normally £99). That was in early 2007 and I know they've gone up since then. But as I say shop around and you might get a good bargain.

pulapula · 14/01/2009 22:34

Belgianchocolates (and any other qualified MW out there- i know there are others),

I'm sure i was left more than 15mins when in active labour (this was 4 years ago now though so maybe rules have changed), maybe more like every 30 mins to an hour. I think its good for first time mums to be aware of this, as I freaked out when my MW disappeared after doing all the initial checks etc (when I arrived i was 7cm so went straight to delivery suite). I know I probably wasn't the only mum in labour, but i think it really affected the delivery. It was when she said "and if you get the urge to push, just start pushing" that I got really scared .

And although i had a natural delivery (albeit back-2-back with rotational ventouse) i still feel a bit cheated/disappointed as I never felt "the urge to push" - can this really happen or do you think i was fighting against it? I'm interested in your professional opinion (although don't feel you have to comment as you're not at work now lol)

delightedoldbag34 · 14/01/2009 22:35

llaregub - oh that's so funny. Makes me smile too when people say 'definitely a girl, definitely' and I'm there thinking 'er, actually it's not'.

Oh and sausage you can get a really good price for used bugaboo in good condition on ebay if you want to sell it once you've finished with it. I've seen some going for £450 with accessories (or at least they were when I looked into it before buying mine new......seemed worth it)

Momino · 14/01/2009 22:36

grumpy, that's a terrible story about your births, i'm sorry.

Belgian, i begged for an epidural but MW kept hesitating saying baby was coming (came four hours after I asked for an epidural) - it was also in my birthplan which they'd 'misplaced'. After I had the baby, the MW said, aren't you glad you didn't have an epidural? NO! why was it better I didn't get the pain relief I wanted? DH is going to be more firm this time if I want an epidural.

About waddling - i'm defn waddling. also feel incredibly huge for 23+ weeks. bigger than the last two. do we get bigger with each pregnancy?

llareggub · 14/01/2009 22:36

Although I ended up with a c-section I did labour for 12 hours.

I don't remember a 15 minute inspection by the midwife, although I do remember her telling me to help myself to gas and air. I did, only for her to tell me that I really wasn't in enough pain for it!

I remember DH and I being on our own for most of the night, although in fairness I don't think I was actually going anywhere and I was strapped up to some sort of monitor anyway.

Glad to be having a planned c-section this time!

pulapula · 14/01/2009 22:37

To make my message clearer, she made the comment about starting to push as she disappeared out of the door...

Actually, I've been meaning to ask. My c-section is on 27 April. Do you think I should move to the April thread or stay here? I'd like to stay!

I think we do get bigger with each pregnancy. I looked pregnant the day I did my pregnancy test I think!
