delighted - your ring isn't in the filter in the washing machine is it? Just thinking of all the places ds hides stuff!!

Tummum · 11/01/2009 17:44

Welcome MrsE and Grumpy

I'd like to join in the grumping theme. No apparent reason. Apart from being constantly knackered, being relied upon to do everything and aches and pains from SPD.... oh I am full of the joys of spring!

Particularly looking fwd to being fitted for my support belt tomorrow... NOT !

The good news is that the kids are knackered, after getting up really early and running around all day, so I'm praying it will be an easy-ish bedtime, followed by nice bath for me and early to bed

We've just come back from lunch with some good friends my age without kids (yet.) I am still wondering what I used to do with all of my time (and energy) that I had pre-DC....

delightedoldbag34 · 11/01/2009 18:06

daizy no it's not in the washing machine filter - unfortunately. DD2 says now its in the cushions on the sofa, but again have searched about 3 times and it's not there. Any psychic ladies out there who might like to have a stab at where else it can be? My biggest fear is she put it in the kitchen bin (she loves putting things in the bin). But she was only away from me for less than a minute, can't think where else she could have gone with it. Bum.

llareggub · 11/01/2009 19:21

delightedoldbag My strategy when dealing with lost things is to stop looking altogether.

Recently we lost disc 2 of 7 DVDs we'd rented from the DVD shop. We looked everywhere, and I mean everywhere. I searched through every nook and cranny you can think of.

Last week I found it in a pile of DVDs I know I searched through.

Relax...it will come to you.

delightedoldbag34 · 11/01/2009 19:27

Panic over - it has been found!
DH came home an hour ago to find me trying to lift up sections of our (extrememely heavy) sofa to look underneath - although I'd already peered undereath with a torch to no avail. He lifted it all up bit by bit then when we lifted up the last piece there it was! All twinkly and sparkly and beautiful. DD2 was almost as pleased as me I think. She kept jumping about saying 'Daddy find it!' Aaaaaah. Although it's not leaving my finger again (well not until I swell up too much to get it on!).
Much more cheerful now and nausea also has receded. DH has just ordered an indian (still my fave food) so hopefully it'll be a nice evening now!

llare - you are so right though about stopping looking for things and they suddenly turn up. I have done that in the past then suddenly have had a flash of inspiration and they lost thing has been in that place (even though I've usually already looked there). Weird isn't it?

pulapula · 11/01/2009 20:05

Hello all,

I must say i have been really tired lately- for example today i had 3 naps, 8.15-9am (DS was up at 6.30 again and I get so tired), 1.15-1.45pm and 5.45-6.15pm. Just have to lie down and rest! I also had a work trip out on Thursday and never suffer from travel sickness usually but felt so ill after the train journey back- glad I only have to drive/walk to work usually.

Think LO is having a growth spurt as 1) i am craving loads of milk 2) my belly has expanded and 3) i have itchy skin (sides in particular).

Am 21 weeks tomorrow- Momino- I always find the 24 weeks stage very reassuring, as I know that babies can survive out of the womb at this stage (although am hoping this one stays in til my elective section at 39weeks!)

Rubysmom08 · 11/01/2009 20:20

hello ladies.....

Curry is my favourite food at the moment, couldn't abide it when pregnant with dd as I had mega heartburn morning noon and night! I love lemon and lime too nothing like a bit of acid to help the heartburn along!

Been much more cheerful today and I am almost marginally excited about my scan tmrw.. will let you all know the flavour tmrw night.

Watching dancing on ice, doesn't Holly looking blooming! But what is Phil's sparkly suit all about??

My SPD or PGP as my midwife likes to call it too.. is killing me, I have my birthing ball all blown up- if you don't have one already I have to recommend them.. they are so good and really helped with Ruby during labour... although she now likes to smack it against the fireplace as hard as possible because she knows she is not allowed near trhe fireplace.

So cute today, we were in a shop looking at some furnitur and this old man said hello to her and she blew him a big kiss! She has never done it before think the old man was going to cry!

My support belt is so unattractive at least it does tame my love handles slightly and hides any of my strectch marks if my top rides up!

Anyway hope you've had a good weekend xx

Momino · 11/01/2009 20:20

delighted, i'm feeling nauseous again as well, though not as intensely as in the 1st trimester. I think same thing happened last pregnancies. also made worse with indigestion/heartburn.

yes, tired and no motivation. as you may know i've got a work from home job that I need to do a bit every day and just can't be bothered most days. especially since my 'work time' is mostly after 9pm when kids in bed and i've finally had supper. then, i just want to go to bed! can't wait for maternity leave. just notified my HR of my Mat leave start which is 30/3!!! can't wait.

gotta run, as i have 10 min to take a shower before DH and I eat (luckily he's cooking, we wouldn't eat if 'twere up to me). somehow i missed the shower chance this morning and better go now as I won't have the next chance until Tuesday (i'm so pathetic).

Momino · 11/01/2009 20:23

MsG and Delighted, thanks for confirming 24 weeks, i thought that was the case. i'm a bit grumpy (sounds like i've got good company ) at the moment so a bit of bright news this is.

alapala · 11/01/2009 20:50

Twas only a proper glass of wine that relieved my grumpiness this weekend. Felt positively cheerful after!

delightedoldbag34 · 11/01/2009 21:13

momino - re: viable babies - you may be interested to hear this : when I was a student midwife (long ago now- well actually about 12 yrs ago) I had to do a stint of work on SCBU (which, incidentally I absolutely loved). While I was there we had a 23 weeker born, who was initally quite touch-and-go, but who ended up being a real little (very little!) fighter. Her name was Susie and I spent loads of time with her parents just watching her and looking after her and hoping she'd pull though. She did, and as far as I know she didn't develop any serious long term problems and eventually went home! I can still remember how tiny but perfect she was, even at 23 wks gestation and it amazes me to think we've all got one (or two!) inside us about that size right now. Anyway I still think about her and wonder how she is.
I admit it was (at that time) unusual for babies like that to survive being born so early and not suffer serious problems but it is possible!
Anyway, so yes, viable indeed!

delightedoldbag34 · 11/01/2009 21:14

BTW I am slightly less grumpy now having just had a lovely takeaway curry and some chocolate coins I found in the treat drawer!

Momino · 11/01/2009 21:55

Delighted, that's a lovely story about the 23 week old. what a miracle! Glad you found your ring.
alapala, going to have a nice glass of red wine tomorrow night at the bookclub i'm hosting - really looking forward to it!
Rubysmom, good luck at the scan and can't wait to find out what you're having.

now, to work at 21:55. just going to do email and off to bed. i can't wait to sleeeeeep. re: sleep: fortunately, the girls have sprung back from having the flu; unfortunately, it means they are back to waking up no later than 7am so the lie-ins till 9 are finished. sigh.

Jennster · 11/01/2009 22:03

Been using the Natal Hypnotherapy CDs I ordered. They are very good at getting me to sleep, even if I use it first thing in the morning. You're not meant to sleep but I suppose any relaxation is good for you.

flippineck · 11/01/2009 22:03

The nausea is a real pain, isn't it? pulapula - I'm with you on the travel sickness. I do normally get travel sick (and have done all my life) but it seemed to have been easing as I got older. I can't even smell our car now without feeling queasy, and on quite a few occasions have had to get DH to pull over so I can be sick. Quite embarrassing at my age!

Otherwise, I'm just tired all the time. Still not sleeping brilliantly, waking for no apparent reason, and then even if I have had a good night just not feeling rested. I doze off suring the day too!

We've had a nightmare evening here. DD is going through a phase of not wanting to go to bed and finds all kinds of things to delay it. She is shattered, but it's always something like one more story, one more song, need a particular teddy, cuddle mummy, cuddle daddy etc etc. Any tips? She's 21 months. Tonight she cried for nearly two hours, whatever we did, whether one (or both) of us was there, whatever the combination of teddies/blankets/songs. I hated hearing her cry so much, and eventually she did go to sleep, but I almost dare not go upstairs in case she wakes again! Sorry for the long whinge, it's really tiring!

flippineck · 11/01/2009 22:05

Jealous of all the take away curries going on out there - we're on an economy drive so I have to be very sensible.

HtheH · 11/01/2009 22:07

I need some advice. I am being a real worrier and am meant to be flying to Geneva and then going up to 1500m to spend a few days chilling out when the rest of my family go skiing. I am definitely not going to ski, but am paranoid about the flight and being at altitude. Is this dangerous and can it cause premature labour? You read such horror stories and not sure if I am worrying for nothing. Anyone else been to the mountains and on a plane at 23 weeks with no probs?

Jennster · 11/01/2009 22:19

HtheH they wouldn't let you fly if it were dangerous, and I guess the reason they don't want you flying after a certain time, is because they don't want labouring women on their planes.
You'll be fine!

Jennster · 11/01/2009 22:21

And I think Divedaisy has just done the same thing. Been to the spa while the rest of the family went skiing.

daizydoo · 11/01/2009 22:22

H sorry don't have any advice re flying.
Spangle I meant to say earlier re the long pillows - I have one and used it when pregnant with DS. It's great, I just tangle myself up in it to go to sleep and would have struggled to sleep without it. The only downside is that I get so tangled up I usually wake up when I turn over! Oh the other bonus is that after the birth you can fold it in 1/2 and you have a cushion to help you breast feed in bed!!
Right I'm off to bed - good night ladies.

HtheH · 11/01/2009 22:26

It is not so much the flying that worries me as it is only a couple of hours, I am more worried about being at altitude and starving the baby of oxygen. I will be at 1500m/5000ft.
Thanks
x

llareggub · 11/01/2009 22:27

HtheH, I read something about altitude and pregnancy on here. I can't remember which thread, but it was in the last month or so and was written by someone living in France or Switzerland. If you do a search you should be able to find it. I'll try too.

HtheH · 11/01/2009 22:28

Delighted I believe you are a trained midwife, what is the official line on this?

llareggub · 11/01/2009 22:34

I can't find what I was looking for, but I would imagine Detsy would know as she is still travelling for work purposes.

Last time I was pregnant DH tried to book a surprise trip but the airline wouldn't let him book without a letter from my GP after 28 weeks.

HtheH · 11/01/2009 22:40

I've had a look too and looks like lots of people do go and just don't ski. I am sure I am just worrying about nothing. Thanks.
