I agree, the info on most of the english language ones I've seen is either stretched or incorrect. I'm looking for a better website, therefore, but can't find one. or at least a book.

pulapula · 10/01/2009 19:50

I got a baby names book from DH for my birthday today and its not brilliant really. Still not found any names to add to my list yet.

DS and DD got so giddy with all the excitement of mummy's birthday but at least they went to bed at 7 no trouble!

Just ordered a Chinese banquet which DH has gone to collect. mmmmmm.

Rubysmom08 · 10/01/2009 20:08

happy birthday pulapula! Hope you had a lovely day... I have found a lot ofthe baby name books to be a bit rubbish.. here is my list of boys names in case you are struggling, I may not need to use them finding out on MOnday! After the scare yesterday it shook some sense into me and made me realise that all I want is a healthy baby, I tied myself in knots and had a really shitty depressed day today, missed a whole day of play with dd and dh and have only just managed to stop being a cow... berated my dh for not give dd a yoghurt after her lunch! I mean for christ sake!

Anyways here are the boys names:Oscar Jones Seth Jones
Quinn Jones
Magnus Jones
Alex Jones
Max Jones
Ethan Jones
Billy Jones

I had to put my surname so when I can fully vsualise, mad Iknow, I cut and pasted these from my word document

Thanks for all your well wishes, I hope it is going to be plain sailing from now!

Just had the Indian takeaway arrive- yum!

Momino · 10/01/2009 20:29

Happy Birthday Pulapula! Hope you've had a great day.

Rubysmom, great name list but I like Quinn and Magnus the best, lovely names.

We've already got great names for DDs (India and Saskia) So, all I've got so far on the girl list are Ariana and Harper. For a boy, Henry but if we're brave, Atticus ('To Kill a Mockingbird' is one of my favourite books/films).

I'm not stuck on any of these and still looking, I need a solid list.

llareggub · 10/01/2009 20:36

Names, they are annoying me.

We can't agree on a name for DS2. We have a list of names that we like but none that stand out as being "the one."

We have:

Edward
Henry
Hugo
Rupert (DH's fave)
Aneirin (Nye for short)
Osian

The latter two are my favourite, but probably not enough to argue for them over the others. I really love the name George and at the moment I am keeping it off the list as DH insists he isn't keen, so I might pull it out of the bag after the c-section when I look and feel dreadful as my last bargaining tool!

LoobyLou36 · 10/01/2009 21:28

Names...that's a difficult one.

We don't now what flavour we're having
we both seem to like Poppy or Tilly (Matilda) for a girl DH likes Isobel but I'm not keen (knew an Izzy at college I couldn't stand) not sure about boys names DH likes Jack, I like Alfie, DH also keeps coming out with unusual welsh names Idris, etc (DH is welsh) he also like Angus after the guy from ACDC (I think he's joking )

Any thoughts?

SpangleMaker · 11/01/2009 00:19

Llareggub I like the names on your list (I seem to remember we both like several of the same names!). DH had a brief flirtation with Rupert but it's not top of the list. How do you pronounce Osian?

DH loves the name George, as I do, but my brother's George and it'd seem too odd to me to have a son and a brother called the same, although my brother was quite happy with the idea!

DH has just suggested Loxley... I don't think it's a 'proper' first name, but why not??

LoobyLou36 · 11/01/2009 09:10

I'd heard that cote but the welsh meaning is fiery lord apparently.

We also both like Scarlet. So that's Poppy, Tilly or Scarlett for a girl and only Jack (which I'm not sure about) for a boy.

llareggub · 11/01/2009 09:31

Idris is definitely a Welsh name! I know lots of old men called Idris. Isn't weird how names pop up all over the place? My niece is called Nia, which is a Welsh name, although it also appears to be Greek also. The name Lydia is in my Welsh name book, which really surprised me.

Osian is pronounced Osh-an, although with a welsh accent it sounds very different. It is hard to explain, really.

MrsExton · 11/01/2009 11:20

Hello everyone!
New to Mums net
Having 20 week scan on Tuesday, starting to get a bit freaked out as I don't relly have much of a bump yet and am worried something is wrong. Ridiculous I know, but I can't help worrying!
Yes, it is my first, I feel neurotic

llareggub · 11/01/2009 11:26

MrsExton, welcome to mumsnet!

I'd say it is fairly normal to have a smallish bump with your first. I know people who stayed in normal clothes until very late on in their pregnancy.

If you scroll back through these threads you'll see everyone worries during their pregnancy. Good luck with your scan.

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 11/01/2009 11:27

Welcome MrsExton
I'm a paranoid first-timer as well! I'm 23 weeks today and had a scan at 21 weeks. I was really worried beforehand but it was fab to see our cute little baby.
My current worry is how frequently and strongly I should be feeling movements. I'm sure there'll always be something though!

On the Idris debate, my cousin is married to an Idris. Definitely welsh!

Sorry not had chance to catch up fully but hope everyone else is doing ok.

MrsExton · 11/01/2009 12:01

Thanks guys!
I know in my rational mind things are probably fine, think it is the hormones...I am getting weepy at the most daft things these days, sad TV adverts, how cute my cats are...I have become bonkers!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 11/01/2009 12:11

Hello all, I did post aaaaages ago, but have just lurked occasionally since.

However, feeling braver now, so have decided to creep out of the shadows and come for a chat.

I'm 21+ summat now, had scan last week and Sonographer couldn't tell what sex the baby was, it refused point blank to reveal all (I was quite relieved, as I didn't really want to find out, but DH did). This awkward behaviour makes us think this will be our 3rd daughter but I have a faint hope for a boy (kind of always wanted a boy). Our house is pretty much pink and sparkly and such (stereotypes? What they?)

I have been feeling lots of movement, getting quite strong, not strong enough yet for DH to feel.

I think a couple of others had posted about SPD, this is my 2nd pregnancy with it (didn't have it with my first) - at the physiotherapist next week as it's getting pretty unbearable at times

Sorry for long post......

MsG · 11/01/2009 13:16

Hiya MrsExton and Grumpy, nice to "meet" you both.

I had my scan on Friday and it was such a relief. I think we do all worry about something.

I seem to have got slightly bigger in the last few days - I have a definite bump now but only earlier last week I was saying I didn't think I looked pregnant. Everyone is different, definitely.

SPD sounds awful. I don't know much about it. Does anything help with it?

x

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 11/01/2009 13:59

Hi MsG

I had a highly attractive support to wear last time, suspect I'll get another this time, other than that, it's just doing this correctly, to ensure that you don't have your legs apart for any length of time (knees together when getting in & out of the car, rolling like that to get out of bed, taking stairs one at a time - I got the p@& taken out of me at work for this one, different ahem* sexual positions when I can be bothered ).

I saw a lady on crutches when I was waiting for my scan, she was an extreme case.

Moan over!!!

I know what you mean about rapid bump growth, I am suddenly recognisably pregnant, rather than just a fat heifer (well, I am that too but y'know.....)

Sorry if there are any spelling mistakes, trying to type whilst DD2 (4 yrs old) is kissing and cuddling me. Awwwwwww

Momino · 11/01/2009 14:39

welcome newbies! Hope everyone is well today.
I think i'm 24 weeks now - does that mean baby is 'viable'? quite a milestone if so.

Have had really sore, crampy backs of my legs. I've got a weird vein at the top of my thigh which is aching at the moment. anyone having aching/restless leg syndrome stuff? I'm hoping this gets better after pregnancy.

Very tired today and also feeling bump growth. i've a very stretched tummy which is a bit itchy and need to start using lotion or oil.

well i'm going to contact someone right now for a refresher antenatal course, feel like it's necessary after I was so unprepared at birth #2. believe it or not, i forgot how to breathe.

llareggub · 11/01/2009 16:46

Momimo, in the nicest possible way I'm so glad that you've posted that you are tired.

I've been tired these last couple of days and have had naps each afternoon again. I'm back in work next week, although working half day tomorrow, and I'm really not looking forward to my full day on Wednesday if I'm going to be this tired.

My bump is definitely more prominent, and DH reckons the rest of me is getting smaller as well so bump is getting bigger.

As anyone had headaches? I've really suffered these last couple of days so am going to pop into the surgery tomorrow to get my blood pressure checked again.

MsG · 11/01/2009 17:00

Momino, I think 24 weeks does make it viable - that's ace - such a milestone, as you say.

Sometimes I get restless legs in bed but it hasn't been too bad yet. I think I've got off fairly lightly so far, apart from the nausea which finally went about a week and a half ago and the constant tiredness. But I have trouble with sleep anyway, so I guess that was to be expected. Sorry you have been getting cramp too.

llareggub, sounds like a good idea to get your BP checked if you are having a lot of headaches - sounds horrible. I've been making myself drink loads of water which I think may be keeping headaches away... Though I'm only just past 20 weeks so who knows what symptoms are lurking round the corner.

Grumpy, your DD2 sounds great. Aw!!

delightedoldbag34 · 11/01/2009 17:11

Yes MsG 24 wks is VIABLE - hurray!

Can I join the club of tired ladies though please?
And I might just start on of my own called:
'hormonal, grumpy, nauseous (again - where did that come from ffsake?) ladies'. Have been no fun this weekend, DD2 is in the throes of the terrible two's and am utterly fed up and knackered. And suddenly have been feeling sick off and on and even in the middle of the night.....what is going on?

Boo hoo, poor me!
Not sure who mentioned this but YES my baby is also kicking me (quite hard sometimes) in what feels like my cervix. Gives me such a fright. He's a cheeky monkey.

Welcome newbies.......sorry, I'm not normally this grumpy and moany. Must try harder.

delightedoldbag34 · 11/01/2009 17:17

OH and am so sick of looking like the side of a house. Feel absolutely enormous. Not liking it one bit.

So much for trying harder not to moan. That lasted all of about 90 seconds

Off to make kids tea now, but feeling quite nauseous again. Yuck. Not sure if I'm going down with something or whether it's just the old 'morning sickness' popping back for a surprise visit. Crap.
And DD2 has 'lost' my engagement ring somewhere in the house. My own fault for letting her play with it for about 30 seconds. Haven't been able to find it for the last week, and when I ask her where it is she shrugs her shoulders and says 'Lost It'. Grrrrrr.

Where can it be, where, where?
(top tip - never give your kids you jewellry to play with however much they are whinging. )

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 11/01/2009 17:19

It is awful isn't it, but I am so grateful that I'm not the only tired one. I almost fainted during the night, getting up for millionth pee, baby bouncing up and down on my bladder like it's a trampoline.......

I shouted at DD2 (who is the cutest little thing with the biggest, cheekiest grin) earlier for no real reason and promptly burst into tears. I apologised all round, said I'm sick of being grumpy all the time. DD1 who is nearly 11 is very understanding, she has learnt all about hormones at school!!!

daizydoo · 11/01/2009 17:29

Hi, haven't posted for ages, but can I join the grumpy club?!?! Dh was drawing family pictures with ds the other day and he [dh] drew mummy with a sad face, cos she's always grumpy! Whoops! DS has been ill this week and spent most of the week crying or shouting no, no, no at me, which has driven me mad!!

Cote your DH sounds like mine with regard to names. Nearly every name I suggest he rhymes it with something childish or unpleasant!! I really like the name Xander for a boy, but DH has gone off it!

I think I've got SPD as well. My midwife told me this week that we can't call it SPD as he it can only be diagnosed by x-ray which of course we can't have, so its written in my notes as pelvic girdle pain, or something like that Just have to wait for my physio appt now!
