Hi Gals! I've jsut caught up with you all over the past week or so. Any news from Rubysmum??
We got home from Bulgaria in the very early hours of Sunday morning. Santa came to DS in Bulgaria and aagain on Sunday! So it was lovely to stretch Christmas out. But once I stepped off the plane it was as if someone hit me in the face - BAM!! There you go have some sinusitis and a lovely cough and chest infection. Luckily my GP was lovely - when I told him I had this 3-4 weeks ago and managed it myself (by coughing on the loo!), but this time round because of thissize bump is now I'm having trouble breathing, he gave me some antibiotics. I still feel like s**t and smell like pee (fblush) but hey who's listening to my complaints in the house anyway?
Massages were blissful. Igot a 'wellness massage' - top to toe lying on my sides. Then on Friday DH treated me to a face, scalp, neck and shoulder massage - OMG! Heaven on earth.
Getting scan in the morning. DS now wants to stay at his nans and play with all the lego he got, but he may change his mind! Excited and worried about the scan - can;t wait to see him/her, but concerned that everything is ok. There we go the start of motherhood - all the worrying!
DH gave my baby bump a kiss yesterday - very sweet cos he's not normally like that! And he has begun receintly to stnd behind me and rub my bump... then he quickly tries to grop me!!!
Hope you are al feeling a bit better day by day. Have a lovely New Year - but you should hear from me tomorrow with my scan news!!

delightedoldbag34 · 30/12/2008 13:12

By the way anyone got suggestions for easy New Years Day lunch for 4 adults and 2 kids? DH has decided he doesn't like roast dinners (!) - I'd normally do a roast beef or similar but he says no. He wants steak pie but I don't fancy it (and can't be bothered making pastry etc). Is lasagne with salad and garlic bread appropriate do you think? Or any other ideas? A roast for lunch I reckon is ideal as quite easy - I might have to go and get Nigella books out in a minute - suspect she has similar lazy tendencies to my own! (We have friends of DH staying who, TBH I don't know well. Normally I love cooking for people but at the moment I feel all 'cooked out' and just can't muster the enthusiasm. What would you do?

sorry posted twice

By the way, isn't heartburn horrid? I forgot how annoying it is. Have taken to swigging Gaviscon straight from the bottle (classy)

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 30/12/2008 14:06

I'd love lasagne, garlic bread and salad
Can I come round??!

MsG · 30/12/2008 14:06

I think lasagne sounds lovely! x

whatsinanameforme · 30/12/2008 14:24

Hello Ladies,

Had a name change, fancied a change!

Was Nikkie! Well still am lol!

Hope everyone is ok, I seem to be doing ok at the mo.

Im slightly confused, Im 20 weeks on Friday but I don't seem to be or feel as big as I di in my first pregnancy! For example, I am sat here in a pair of size 10 stiff denim jeans with no problems at all, I have a bump but its not huge! I've only put on 1/2 stone and thats including christmas indulgence, should I be worried??

My bump is very hard, and baby is constantly kicking all the time, but if I lay down I can actually 'feel' the baby with my hands!

My family reckon its because I am alot smaller this time and was very underweight before I got pregnant this time so I am just all baby bump as I have no fat to cover it???!!

Hope everyone is ok

LoobyLou36 · 30/12/2008 15:49

delighted lasagne, salad and garlic bread sounds fine.

I've just been speaking to some rellies who are coming over for a meal and have decided to do something similar. DH bought me a pasta machine for xmas so I get to experiment. Might do a gnochi bake of some description.

Understand where your DH is coming from - don't think I could manage another roast dinner for a while.

MsG · 30/12/2008 15:58

whatsinanameforme, I don't think you should worry - talk to your midwife if you are. Sounds like you are teeny to start with (lucky you!) and I think lots of people don't put on that much weight at first. I have got the impression that a lot of people put most of the weight on in the last few months..? Not sure. I put on over a stone in my first 12 weeks but that was a mixture of not exercising at all really (due to fear after previous m/c) and eating absolutely loads to stop the sickness/hunger. I haven't really put any on since then and I'm constantly asking "Do I look pregnant?!" I'm 18 weeks 4 days at the mo. xx

1stMrsF · 30/12/2008 17:54

Hello all and hope you have survived enjoyed the festivities.

We had our scan this morning and we are having two girls! I am very pleased because I have several girls names in mind, but no boys names at all! All was well and now I'm going to start getting 'Project Twins' underway (I am a total control freak who is never more happy than when there are lists and spreadsheets managing things in great detail...) in January.

whatsinaname I echo MsG everyone is so different and especially if you didn't have any extra weight to start with. I have only put on 2 kilos (about 4 pounds, I am forcing myself to go metric as that's what the midwives use) at almost 21 weeks with the twins and I only started showing a few weeks ago, whilst a colleague who is also expecting twins and is 6 weeks ahead of me had put on 13lbs by now (and was huge) and another colleague (must be something in the water at our place) who is due around the same time with a single baby had an enormous bump whilst I was still not showing at all.

Deligted, I think lasagne sounds absolutely fine, although I'd also recommend getting the Nigella books out - easy entertaining is something she does very well. There is a fabulous Chilli recipe in the Christmas book and also a festive shepherds pie but with a mixture of venison and pork (called Rudolf Pie ) in Feast. Hope you find something you fancy making, but people will be happy with something hot and filling that they haven't cooked themselves - or I would be for sure!

EmmalinaC · 30/12/2008 18:03

Hello everyone!

Sorry, haven't been on for ages but have just about managed to keep up with all you posts. Great to hear some good scan results.

Delighted how about bangers and mash or toad in the hole? Maybe it's just mme but I can't get enough sausages at the moment...

I've just had a really horrid scare and spent this morning at hospital (again). Had some spotting but at 22 weeks they take it really seriously. I was expecting them to check the heartbeat and say fine you can go but they called a consultant to check my cervix and said they would normally recommend keeping me in hospital for 24 hours observation. They agreed I could go home (as I was with DH) and observe myself but I have to go back to the maternity ward if anything happens. So I'm feeling terrified and keep going to the loo etc. Fingers crossed evrything will be ok.

Sorry - that's all about me. Hope everyone else is keeping ok and all poorly mums have recovered in time for massive NYE parties!

MsG · 30/12/2008 18:36

EmmalinaC, that sounds really stressful - you take good care of yourself and go straight back in if you're worried. Let us know how you're doing. xx

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 30/12/2008 18:59

1stMrsF - congrats on your girls

EmmalinaC - how scary for you. Take loads of care.

I have my PIL staying until next Monday. They're quite chilled and don't criticize or make snide comments like I know lots of in laws do so I'm quite lucky. They are really fussy eaters though! Last night I did cold ham which was fine. Tonight I gave them the choice of pork chops or fish cakes and they asked for more cold ham! Fine as it needed using up but I don't know what I'm going to do the rest of the week. They don't want to go out, they don't do pasta or anything spicy...

Sorry, got that off my chest now!

Momino · 30/12/2008 22:35

Hi all.
Emmalina, do take care.
1stMrsF, congrats on your scan, wonderful news.
Alapala, can we really eat camembert baked like that? it'm my fave way to eat it but hadn't thought that would kill any bugs but i guess it makes sense.
delighted, lasagne please. I'll be round for afters.
everyone else, hope you're all well.

ok here but taking awhile to recover from flu/cold. just left with a chesty cough. poor dd1 has had this the longest and is still not eating well and sleeping too much after 11 days. we're taking her to doc tomorrow though not sure what can be done.

plans for new years eve is the same as what we've been doing the past week: sitting in front of telly with feet up. don't feel up for anything else! may get 'when Harry Met Sally', great New Year film and hoping appetite returns soon for pizza or something bad. wouldn't mind a baked camembert!

Momino · 30/12/2008 22:47

just re-reading my post re: camembert and didn't mean to say 'bugs'... ugh. 'bacteria' sounds better. sorry if i put anyone off, .

detsy · 30/12/2008 22:52

Hi Girls - just a quick catch up - mega busy tomo so not likely to be around for a day or so. Happy (Busy..!) 2009 to everyone - not many months left now!
My friend just had her 1st bouncing baby boy - 9lbs and all is well with both, Cant wait to see them.

Out tomo night from early doors till early morning which means Grandma has to put DD to bed which she (DD) won't be too impressed about - need to try and tire her out with lots of fresh air and chasing games tomorrow afternoon. I'm feeling a bit bah humbug about new year and would happily stay in on the sofa with a dvd but we have friends over from Madrid so out partying - well DP and the others will be

Have fun everyone and here's to a FAB year ahead!! xx

Happy end-of-the-year everyone

Looby you must be so worried about your cat. I hope she turns up soon x

Emmalina hope you're ok and had no more bleeding. When I had bleeding at 18w it terrified me so I can imagine how you must have felt 4wks further on. Did they find any cause?

Congrats on the good scans. 1stMrsF two girls - how exciting

Ses my ILs are the same! Well, it's FIL really, I think MIL would broaden her palate left to herself. FIL is suspicious of garlic bread [cue Peter Kay references from DH] and will only drink sweet white wine from glasses I would serve sherry in. My family are quite the opposite, particularly on the alcohol front - I keep having to remind them to offer me soft drinks.

DH felt the baby kick for the first time last night. I think I was more excited than him!

runningmonkey · 31/12/2008 11:46

hi all

We are back after visiting folks and eating far too much turkey!

Sorry to hear so many of you have colds etc I went down with it on boxing day and am still feeling rough. Also had bit of a scare as have been feeling flutterings for a weeek or so but they stopped over weekend. Mw was fab and let me go into surgery on Mon and had a listen and all ok thankfully think the little bean must have moved position so I can't feel it any more.

emmalina hope you are ok

jael sorry haven't got back to you about pushchair we talked about ages ago. Am afriad pil's bought us one as a christmas pressie for the bump! It was the infinity as well!!

Hope everyone has a lovely evening tonight I am planning a glass of Bubbly if I can stay up until midnight!

xx

Just got back from my scan, all if well with baby....and he is a boy! DS is very excited to be getting a little brother, and I am smug and my accurate prediction!

As for me, I saw the consultant afterwards and he is concerned by my high blood pressure and protein in wee. I've had blood tests and have to go back on Friday for a BP test and the blood results. They are concerned about pre-eclampsia, I think.

EmmalinaC · 31/12/2008 13:22

Thanks so much everyone. We had an anxious night 'observing' me (which meant me running to the loo every couple of minutes) but no more bleeding and no pains. I have to go back to the midwife next week just to check the hearbeat but I can feel LO wriggling so I know she's still in there! I don't think I'm really going to relax until this one's in my arms...

llaregub glad your scan went well and congratulations on another boy! Was about to say there seem to be lots more boys than girls due in May but I thing MrsF has tipped the balance back to the pink! Congrats to you too MrsF. Dandy glad you enjoyed your birthday and well done for checking up on Rubysmom. I've been thinking about her too.

Really hope everyone enjoys tonight's wild celebrations wherever they may be. We're staying at home but we have our best friends coming to stay and a cupboard full of snacks so it should be a fun evening. I am definitely treating myself to a glass of bubbly (although I suspect it will give me terrible heartburn so will be following it with a Gaviscon chaser - how times have changed!)

See you in 2009!

Emma xxx

pulapula · 31/12/2008 13:44

Hello all,

Emma- glad the bleeding has stopped- I'm sure i'd be very panicky if i got bleeding now, but its good to hear you've been checked out and no further scares.

If anyone is like me and is having difficulty buttoning up their coat, you might want to take a look at the jojomananbebe website. They have coats in the sale and i've ordered one for £19 (usually £49)! Difficult to see exactly what it will look like but at that price can't grumble. With the 10% off code from mumsnet (MM82) i have managed to get the coat, a maternity sweat jacket, a maternity top and 2 nursing tops (planning ahead a bit) for £57 (free P&P)! The website is playing up a bit, but it wasn't too frustrating. Its a bit of a pain that you have to go into each item, choose a colour and then see if they have your size, but it didnt take too long to browse really.

Feel really pleased with myself!

divedaisy · 31/12/2008 15:42

Hi Gals! Happy New Year to you all for tonight! Cheers! Thinking of going to pub (but really not feeling very well to face it) for a hot port - DS is at his nans for 'four sleep overs' so he's not at home tonight and I kinda feel I should make the most of the freedom... though playing Lara Croft on Wii sounds more inviting to me!!!
