Yes, apparently! That's what I thought - it's insane! Apparently there's foreplay & then 45 minutes of penetration afterwards. Even if it didn't become sore (which I'm sure it would), surely it'd just become boring? I said that no wonder she doesn't feel up to it very often, but I think that it sounded a bit flippant

I was thinking that about the lube. I was going to elaborate in my last post about 'even if you didn't get sore' as to how you'd have to be going through gallons of the stuff. Imagine the chafing

& that's an hour & a half written off immediately. Just think of what else you could achieve in that time. You'd have to actually plan each 'encounter' into your schedule - & employ a cleaner to make up for the time you'd lose having sex (not to mention the time sleeping it off afterwards!)... It opens up a whole load of other issues

SpringySunshine · 06/01/2009 00:08

you posted on that thread & used the phrases 'bikini line' & 'grass roots' in the same sentence

I know - I really couldn't just go without sex. I'm really interested to see what happens after giving birth in April, because I can't imagine not wanting it (although I know that for a while, at least, I don't). I have lots of friends & whilst DP is my friend, he's also my lover - there's no point in acting otherwise. You all saw how much I was struggling with very little sex not that long ago - I couldn't live like that forever, no matter how much I loved someone. Things are better now, though

Speaking of soppy, I was going to go to bed, but found A Lot Like Love on BBC1. It's one of my favourite films & I think it's vastly underrated. It's looooovely.

SpringySunshine · 06/01/2009 00:26

I just found DP in the bath, having used a bath bomb, reading a book...

No wonder he doesn't always seem like he fancies me

Hi all, Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. I just got back from visiting family in Ireland for 10 days - back to work tomorrow.

Also have my glucose screen test (28 weeks) tomorrow and need some advice. I have lost my instructions so need to know how much lucozade I need to drink and when. As far as I remember I don't need to fast.

Thanks

purlease · 06/01/2009 09:05

anyone got details on the 28 week glucose test ?

BoffinMum · 06/01/2009 09:27

I am skiving off mine because I didn't like having it last time. It seemed to involve fasting and drinking a cup of sugary lucozade ever so often as they took blood from me. I felt terrible as I don't eat a lot of sugar normally so it hit my system something rotten. There was nothing wrong with me anyway.

On the sex theme, I did have a bf who seemed to take forever and there was certainly chafing. I think he misguidedly thought that it was a fine testament to his manhood, being able to go on so long. Frankly I used to get bored and think about my to-do list. . Suffice it to say I'm not with him any more.

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 06/01/2009 09:31

I am VVVVVVV jealous of all your hospital ratings... but have taken your advice & booked a tour for the 24th Jan, so we'll see how bad it really is. I'm leaning towards a "homebirth and bugger the neighbours" type argument now - just gotta convince DH that the noise won't be too bad...

What 28 week glucose test?? Is that a standard thing? I'm only 25 weeks but am seeing the MW today so will ask. Am also asking her about the following -

Discharge times at Epsom Hospital
Iron supplements vs vitamins
Constipation
Too much kicking?
NHS antenatal classes
etc etc etc...

think I'm a paranoid first timer??

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 06/01/2009 09:32

at Boffin's to-do list.... tee hee... been there too!

BabyBolat · 06/01/2009 09:48

Oh My Gosh - am gone for a few hours and look at the things your kids get up to - Springy and Nutty I blame you two (although Nutty, do feel Springy encourages you!!! )

Ok quick update - 45 minutes NO THANK YOU, occasionally a very long sesh is needed but you must have to know every position in the book to keep that going!!!

Back on to more suitable Tuesday morning things! Antenatal classes, my hospital just gave me the antenatal clubs dates (run by their physio team) and told me to book in whenever I wanted them - so yay for my five star hospital (gloatng emoticon!!!)

Purlease, I just had my glucose test but they just took normal bloods, there was no sugar involved! Hmmmm

KittyCat - you are not being paranoid, I asked similar things at my meeting yesterday.

Re discharge times, my MW said yesterday that if uncomplicated 6-24 hours (but as it's my first time, they would probably recommend I stay in overnight), c-section 3 days. But my hospital have VERY VERY strict visiting hours (accept for DH who can stay all the time yay!) but only allowed 2 visitors for 2 hours in afternoon and 2 hours in evening so am hoping for an uncomplicated birth so I can get me out of there!!!

BabyBolat · 06/01/2009 10:03

GRRRR first day back, not in the office 45 minutes and the figure police have already pi55ed me off no end. When is it Ok to say - oh you're growing sideways and then LAUGH! GRR GRRR GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

SpringySunshine · 06/01/2009 10:05

Don't worry Nutty, he wasn't only good for sleep afterwards, I made sure of that. The bath is now full of yellow silt though, where the idiot couldn't be bothered to rinse it out.

No idea about the glucose test, sorry - I'm kind of just floating through this pregnancy trying not to think about each step, otherwise I'd go insane. I'm burying my head in the sand somewhat.

Boffin, that's what I imagined! I was thinking about it some more last night & thought that it'd be a good excuse to write shopping lists in your head, at least. The man probably wouldn't be too impressed if he knew, though...

BB, we we encourage each other! It's not all my fault! Is your DH allowed to stay overnight? I don't think that mine will be - he can visit whenever during the day, but will be sent home to sleep (unless I'm labouring all through the night, obviously) because he's not allowed on the ward. I don't know what I want to do about being discharged anyway. I don't think that I'll have loads of visitors immediately (too far away from family / not sure I'll want them) & am a bit scared about the coming home & being left to it thing... I think it'll depend on how it goes at the time. I'm not currently in a rush to be let out within 2 hours or anything like that, though.

SpringySunshine · 06/01/2009 10:07

Hahaha! What did you say? I really hope you said something like, "Must be something in the air - so are you!"

AuldAlliance · 06/01/2009 10:18

This thread is incredible, I can never, ever keep up.

The glucose test must be the UK equivalent of what I did. Lucozade is a much, much nicer option than a glass of tepid water with 75g of sugar swirling about in it. But then you can't get Lucozade here. Maybe I should set up an import business, for all those PG women.

SNOW is forecast in Provence this afternoon! Things will grind to a standstill, motorists will simply stop their cars in the middle of the road, and all hell will break loose. Poor old DH on his motorbike... He got in at 4am after finishing a rush job last night; if he has to work his way home this evening through snow and stranded drivers, he'll go crazy!

Just off to collect DS from pre-school (he comes home for lunch and then goes in again for a nap and play, very French). I'm not teaching this week, so am making the most of being able to get him home for lunch. But it means I only have 5 hrs in the day for work, except Wed when I have none, and it is just not enough, so I've been doing class prep and marking at night. Silly arrangement, and all my own fault, really.

Boffin, I'd love to compare notes one day on academic life in France and the UK, to see the differences.

Claireykitten · 06/01/2009 10:22

Purlease. Re the 28 Week GTT I have got the vague impression in the past that it is maybe done differently at different hospitals but I am due for my 2nd one this pregnancy in a couple of weeks and the instructions for all 3 have been:

No food or drink (inc water) after 9pm the night before.

Bring a light snack and drink to be consumed after all test have been done.

I have then had to be at the hospital for 9am for the test where they would take my blood off me give me the manky orange stuff to drink and then send me to the waiting room for 2 hours. 2 hours later they took more blood off me told me to eat my snack and then I could go.

HTH

Hi everyone I am still around lurking all day everyday I just never seem to have anything interesting to post so never seem to bother. I agree with BayBolat that Springy really does encourage Nutty but you have to admit the thread just wouldnt be the same without them!!

I also agree that 45 minutes, no way no thank you that has got to end up hurting surely!!

Regarding the NHS classes I was just asked whether I wanted bother this time round and since I said no I got no other information but last time I was given a sheet quite early on with all the classes for all the hospitals (I have a choice of 4) and who to ring to book them along with details about when the Stork Walks were which actually ended up being part of the classes at the hospital we chose. So basically what I am trying to say is that your midwife should be able to give you all the details about NHS classes.

Sorry for the epic essay!!!

Claire xXx
