Morning - happy new year all!!

Hope you all had lovely night - me and DH had a really nice time and think it is the first new years day I have woken up feeling mildly human (that is the one benefit of being pregnant!!) Nutty, Madagascar two was so good!

Yay nutty - 12.5 weeks til baby time (can't wait til we get down to single figures!) The first thing DH said to me this morning is we're going to have a baby this year! Let's hope the last weeks go as fast as the beginning ones and not as horribly slow as these middle 15!!

Yay for the 2009 babies!

brettgirl2 · 01/01/2009 10:29

Happy new year everyone - feeling strangely emotional (damn hormones). I think it's because it's occured to me that this year I'm going to have a real life baby

BoffinMum · 01/01/2009 19:19

HNY!!!

Just managed to host a brunch party for 10 kids and 12 adults. Last people just gone!! SPD still much improved. Had a really great time today seeing all our friends - best moment was watching the Dads pass oranges along the line not using their hands, neck to neck. Looked like something off Little Britain!!

Cheering up quite a bit now. This year may be bad for Gordon Brown but it's going to be really great for all of us!!

BabyBolat · 01/01/2009 20:33

Wow Boffin - what a great start to the New Year - so pleased SPD is still improved! Let's hope it stays that way until bubs decides to make an appearance

Kalikaroo · 01/01/2009 20:39

Happy new year everyone! Just got back yesterday from visiting the in-laws in greece. It was lovely to see them, though they don't speak any english, which leads to some funny situations. Can't recommend flying when 6 months preggy though - not very comfortable!!

Hope you all have an amazing 2009 - which you will because our bubs will be arriving soon!

OddEyes · 01/01/2009 21:15

Happy New Year!
Just finished catching up...wow so much happening for everyone. Not going to comment personally although wanting to cause will take years and will leave someone out but sounds like most of us have improving situations, so pleased for all.
weight - i have lost weight but baby big, for those worrying mention to doc/mw and they should be able to reassure maybe evenwith a scan like me.
post coitial blood - i had afew times with ds - all fine though.
GTT - i have one soon, thanks for advice AA.
My chest has cleared and enjoyed christmas despite a bad uti. was lovely to be in our home rather than living out of suitcases travelling round family to do our christmas duties. enjoying sales shopping for bairn.
back to work on monday so starting to try and get sorted, back to lesson planning then...

Oh dear pregnancy insomnia kicking in for me..I spent the early hours of this morning reading a good novel and eating maltesers. Really not a problem at the moment, but back to work on Monday and it might be then! Was a chance to spend some quality time with the cat I suppose.

Nutty I am still sleeping on my stomach I'm sure it's not good for bubs, who kicks angrily at first then settles down..but I can't help it...

See now, bubs isn't exactly waking me up as such but the constant need to pee!! It's all been pretty normal up until the past 10 days but now its fine all day but in the night maybe 7 times! and while I can get to sleep no problem when I go up to bed, as soon as I wake up to pee bubs wakes up, then getting back to sleep is horrendous! I actually told it off out loud this morning, something along the lines of, 'that's enough. Pack it in!' - it didn't work. I think because we are in the loft room, I have to go up and down stairs to the toilet which wakes the little blighter up!

As for sleeping, I start on my side with pillows between legs and in front of bump but always end up on my front - as much as I try I just can't sleep on my back!

The annoying thing is have been getting up at 5.30 -6 ish every day this holiday no problem, but for the past 2 days have struggles to get up at 8 - perfect timing for work next week! ho hum!!

I do seem to have reverted to the first trimester now tho - skin has gone crazy again!

Have just finished painting the shelves in the nursery (just a clear varnish to go) and now am about to sit down with some tea, lunch and Grease 2 on Sky movies!

BoffinMum · 02/01/2009 14:49

Hello people.

Had booking in appointment with nice indi midwives today. They were with me nearly 2 hours and were very thorough, even did DS2's heartbeat with their little gadget because he was interested, and endured DS1's (failed) magic tricks. I am so pleased I booked with them.

Also had a phone call from the Director of Midwifery today, to say sorry and would I like a replacement NHS midwife. Unfortunately the one they offered only works 4 days a week, and I pointed out I was actually pregnant 7 days a week, so that wasn't ideal. But the Director lady listened to all my woes and was reasonably sympathetic. However I know now that apparently, when my midwife dropped off the map before, I should have phoned a central midwifery helpline service for advice. I thought that number, which is on a special sticker at the front of my notes was only for when you are in actual labour and need someone to attend you, and you had to go to the midwife for non-urgent things like SPD. So it's clearly entirely my fault for misunderstanding the NHS protocols.

Hindsight is, as they say, the greatest gift ...

BabyBolat · 02/01/2009 14:55

oh yay Boffin - glad all went well and always good to feel reassured!

I don't think it is your fault - that clearly wasn't explained to you when you got your notes so how are you supposed to know!

BoffinMum · 02/01/2009 15:00

I probably would have got through to a call centre in Mumbai anyway, if I had rung.

BabyBolat · 02/01/2009 15:01

Or you would have got told off for calling lines that were for labour only!!!

Can you imagine an Indian call centre approach to midwifery??

BM Hello? Is that the labour ward?

CC Hello, how may I help you? To whom am I speaking please?

BM It is BoffinMum here. I think I have got a problem with my hips, as I can't walk.

CC May I ask you for your NHS number please, BoffinMum?

BM I can't get downstairs to get my notes.

CC Allow me to see if I might be able to look you up on the system. Ah, BoffinMum, it appears to say here that you were due to have a baby in April 2001.

BM Yes, that was last time. I am pregnant again.

CC Oh, excuse me BoffinMum, I am most terribly sorry, we appear to have no record of that so your account has now been closed.

BM Well what am I supposed to do now? I can't walk.

CC Might I suggest that you visit your GP and try booking in again? You can ring us 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, so feel free to call again. Thank you for contacting xx hospital. Is there anything else I may be able to help you with today?

God, BoffinMum, the idea is terrifying...!

Well, we're back from our lightning trip to the snow, DS had a great time learning to ski and sledging. After havering about the potential risks, I took him sledging yesterday while DH skied the black runs, and I had a fun time, too. DS quickly made a friend his age and we raced for a bit, the boy and his dad against DS and me. DS announced I was expecting a baby boy and it transpired that the friend's mother was also pregnant and expecting a boy in March. The father looked stunned and shocked that I was sledging in my fragile state, so I began to feel a bit guilty. Until the mother appeared by the side of the sledging run, smoking a cigarette, so I decided we were quits!

Happy 2009 to everyone, hope it's a brilliant year for you and that all these new babies keep us smiling through good times and bad.
