Morning... i've been awake since 5am, been online since about 6ish... gonna get the DC's up in a min though... just thought i'd pop my head in this morning though.

Tink- i have found the wonder of the discount codes for verbaudet, have ordered baby's newborn sleeping bag which has cost a grand total of £6... and am going to be ordering loads after pay day!! will only be costing Just under £85 and i'll be getting all baby's bedding (6-24m sleeping bag, 2x quilt covers, 2x pillowcases, 5x fitted sheets, 3x flat sheets, cot bumper, duvet and mattress cover) a coat each for DC's next year at nursery, nursing bra's for me, disposable nicks for me and storage boxes (a set each for all 3 DC's)!!

AND for everyone talking about disposable nicks- they are only £4.89 a pack at verbaudet and if you can get £15 off £20 with free p&p you could get 20 pairs for less than £10 if you just wanted to order them... or i'm getting lots so have mixed a couple of packs in where the one item i wanted was £16 or something!!

For a fiver you could buy cotton ones from the supermarket and keep washing them Glask. Then use them as 'monthly' pants thereafter.

I have one whingey toddler and a sick 6yo (poorly cough last night though this morning she says it has gone to her leg)

I wonder if Diege is okay after York, it might have been a bit too much for her. Or, maybe she's gone back to work as she was starting to feel better.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 16/12/2008 08:19

oh yeah.... hadn't realised Diege hasn't posted since the weekend... might have pooped her all out!! i know if i do a lot in a day the next day i just wanna sleep!!

I already have 'monthly' nicks sorky... have a drawer full, i just found disposable nicks much easier after having the other 2 as i always end up leaking in the first few days and rather than soaking them before washing (i can't be doing with the extra 2 seconds work) then washing i just prefered binning them!!

Sorry to hear your Dc's are ill and wingy.... i ahve 2 fairly well behaved LO's this morning- i know it'll all change once DS comes back from nursery, but i'm happy for now!!

sorkycake · 16/12/2008 08:38

I think there is more proclaiming of illness, rather than actual illness from Dd iyswim. I suspect she is feeling something about the expected new addition, but is not sure what it is. Does that make sense?

Ds2 is going through some 'sleep training', or is that Dh & I are going through it, it's hard to tell who's winning atm

anyhoo, we don't do any education on Mondays (wash day) so I'm off to sort out the Maths and get started before the day runs away from us.

at least i can get out to tesco later for food shop.

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 16/12/2008 09:09

have other people bought quilts for baby already. thought that u couldnt use them till they were 1 year plus?

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 16/12/2008 09:21

oh tink- i've only bought it now becasue i can get it so cheap and i'm buying the bedspread and pillow and matching sheets and the matching sleeping bag... the sleeping bag to match the bedding is 6-24m.... i wont be using the quilt and covers till 12mths, but as i'll have the matching sheets i'll be using them from when she goes into the cot. then i know i have all the matching set and its not going to be discontinued or anything before i need them!!

OP posts:
glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 16/12/2008 09:25

and where i was planning to buy a baby quilt set and plain sheets alone from adsa.com it would have cost me about £80 for that, but i'm getting all that and much more for the same sort of money from verbaudet.... without the discount codes what i'm ordering would normally cost over £400!!!!

Morning everyone!

Working from home until midday, then off to a meeting with the other 5 people that do similar role to me in the rest of the SE and our boss and then we're all going into Brighton for a meal early evening.

We have been v restrained on our baby shopping so far - still just one top. I think after Christmas we'll start looking at some of the big purchases like buggy and cot.

NJ - hope your appointment goes well today

Diege - hope York went well and you're doing ok

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 16/12/2008 09:57

Morning everyone

Meal in Brighton sounds nice Ses

I've not done any baby buying either yet. Keep looking at stuff but something not bought yet. Looking fwd to January sales. However there is a massive nesting aprt of me that wants to go and buy all of mothercare (or somewhere!) RIGHT NOW!

Lovely bargains Glask!

Good luck with the food shop Tink, sorry DH is poorly too....

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 16/12/2008 10:31

haha- also just found i can get my baby bag, support cushion and changing mat all from verbaudet too for under £20 extar for them, and can add another couple of bits to make each order just over £20!!

OP posts:
GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 16/12/2008 10:36

what voucher discount thing are you using Glask? Might investigate!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 16/12/2008 10:49

on the product codes/discounts topic there is a thread with verbaudet codes... you get £15 off a £20 order, with free p&p and a free gift!!

so what i've done is worked out everything i want to order, and put all the big costing things with smaller costing things so each order is £20 or just over... and then i've just totaled it all up and i'll be getting nearly £500 worth of things for only £102!!! and i will be getting 15 free gifts too!! from what i hear the free gifts are towel robes... handy when you have 3 kids, and can always pass a few on to friends if i just get 15 of them!!

Morning,

Disposable knickers are HORRID!!! They are like hairnets!!!! I didn't use them at all, luckily they were only cheap.

I am having a huge crisis here and really need some outside help. I cried for about half an hour last night about this.

I feel like I am missing DS1. It feels like I spend all day with DS2 on my lap. He is either feeding or he is asleep on me because he won't go to sleep in his moses basket.
I'm beginning to think it was far to early to have another, don't get me wrong I love DS2 and already can't remember what life was like without him. But I think that it's very unfair on DS1 because he had no idea what was happening. He is only 20 months old and I think if he was about 2 and 1/2 to 3 he would have understood what was about to happen.

The MW said its very normal to feel like this around days 3-5. But I can't help thinking that DS1 doesn't like me and that he resents the fact that I don't have time for him at the minute.

I think that it has something to do with BF. I can't help thinking that if DS2 was FF things might be easier. For example DH could feed DS2 while I played with DS1, gave him a bath or just spent some time with him.

The MW also said that when my milk comes in things should get better as DS2 will hopefully go in his moses basket. She has told me to start expressing in between feeds to help my milk come in faster and also DH will be able to give DS2 some EBM.

We've said we'll wait until the end of the week and see how I feel. If I still feel down and upset about it I might stop BF and FF but I'm not too keen on doing that.

Oh and DS2 was 10lb 5oz when he was born on Friday. He is now 9lb 6oz so that has really upset me too as she said he was on the cusp of what he could lose and she was a bit worried.

I feel a tiny bit better this morning because we got some sleep last night, but I still feel like I'm struggling to have time to do things with DS1.

Thanks.

SesHasnearlyreachedhalfway · 16/12/2008 11:15

O Kay! I wish I could do something to instantly help. (Would a sneaky hug help?) Must take a whole load of adjusting and I'm sure some of the others with experience of this will be along soon with more constructive suggestions.
I'm suprised that she said DS2's on the cusp of the weight he can lose. For a 10lb+ baby, I would have thought it perfectly normal to lose a fair bit to begin with.
I can imagine at the moment that each day is a whole new day of unknown and it is good that you got some sleep last night.
Sounds like one of the most difficult things is making time for DS1 - expressing might be the answer to help with your milk and also then DH can do a feed or two so you can have some time with DS1.

Go easy on yourself though - it is a huge adjustment and you will all settle into it gradually. Take it a little bit at a time and feel free to come on here and offload.

kayzr · 16/12/2008 11:18

Thanks Ses, (sneaky hugs helped alot).

I am hoping the expressing will help. If DH can just give him one feed a day it would just give me some time with DS1.

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 16/12/2008 11:23

Hi Kay, sorry you're feeling glum today but I'm sure your MW is right that its normal. When I had DS I didn't go home till day 3 and I think my milk came in on either day 4 or 5 - and it was a really weird time.

You are doing really well to have breastfed so far, and I wouldn't worry about the weight loss - especially as he was such a good size to start off with.

Have you got a sling you can use for DS2 so that when he's asleep you can play with DS1 a bit better? They're very resiliant really and I'm sure that the fact that you recognise you are spending less time with DS1 will be helping - its the mum's that don't acknowledge it that I think have more problems.

Did DS2 'buy' DS1 any presents to give him at Christmas? Coz I think that will probably help, and like someone (NJ?) said yesterday, once Christmas kicks in that will be good for DS1 too as a lot of attention will be on him then. Do you have mum or friends that can come and cuddle DS2 so you can play with DS1? That was the one thing I wanted - someone to hold him so that I could do other things - I felt a bit welded to the sofa in the early days, particularly with all the breast feeding...its just so good for both you and baby it would be a shame to give it up if you can find a way through....

I'm sure Sorky, Diege, Glask, NJ, LG&T (!) will be able to give some good tips on how to make sure DS1 feels loved and help you know you're doing a great job!

Wish I was close enough to come and meet DS1 and DS2 - and hug, entertain and look after ALL of you!

And if you need to cry, don't hold it in - go for it - hormones will out in the end after all.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 16/12/2008 11:24

Kay- i am so sorry to hear that... i actually wondered from your post yesterday about how things were... trust me when i say small gaps pay off leter on... I found it extremley tough in the first few months, learning to cope with 2 DC's, getting feeding established etc.. I only had a 15.5mth gap... so DS was even more of a baby that your DS1 is...

Anyway i found that whenever DH was about if he held Dd while i spent time with DS i didn't feel i was missing out so much... i also used to lie DD on the sofa straight after a feed, i'd sit on the floor with my back against the seat cushion she was led on,and if she cried i'd just reach one arm around and place it on her chest and she'd soothe... that gave me time in the day while DH was working for me to spend with DS... we'd just sit and watch tv, or read a book or just me sitting on the floor watching him play made it feel like i was more involved for both him and me...

Also tea-time... i used to sit and help DS eat while DH would hold DD, so he'd get cold tea, but i'd spent some 1 to 1 time with DS... even if you just did DS1's bathtimes while DH had DS2 it'd give you some time.. Dh can cope with DS2 for half an hour if you make sure he feeds before you go...

if you want to talk more i'm here... I found it so tough in those first few months that i used to cry every day!! I was wrongly diagnosed with PND as the health visitor said i was coping well enough on the basis that both kids were being fed and dressed etc...
