Hello all

Thanks for the story Kay! Fills me with better hope for delivering this baby if she ends up being as large as they think!

I have been writing Christmas cards this morning. Going to brave one last christmas shop in Guildford today though. Only have one more present to get - woo!

Going to have lunch now!

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 14/12/2008 13:04

u did so well kay
u must be so pleased.

largeginandtonic · 14/12/2008 13:15

Kay you are amazing, get dh to print you off a HUGE certificate and badge to wear

It sounds like you had lovely midwives and great support from dh who must be in awe of you, i am.

Someone email me Kay's addy please [email protected]

The TNS machine is fantastic, i bought mine from Mother Bliss i think a few children ago now for £30-35 i seem to remember. I have used it everytime and just replace the pads very cheaply. Friends have borrowed it too. Invaluable piece of kit.

The boy (name yet?) will be sporadic feeder to start with, keep on with it and try and stay in bed holding him close as much as possible, skin to skin. He will probably lose quite a bit of weight as he is so big, don't worry it all normal.

I can't stop beaming at the fab news

sorkycake · 14/12/2008 15:51

I'm in awe of the fact that she only decided to have a HB 2 weeks before .

I usually need 30 weeks to get used to the idea

Did your dad get to meet him before he went home again Kay?

sorkycake · 14/12/2008 15:54

Tink can I ask you be nosy?
Is your due date calculated on your LMP? IIRC you had a long cycle that month of TTC and I wondered if they had taken that into account.
Simply in terms of how long they'd be happy to let you go over dates etc, in case that's the case. Jus' wondered

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 14/12/2008 17:27

i know when i ovulated so told them. then worked out babys due date from scan.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 14/12/2008 18:06

Evening

Kayz, haven't wanted to text for fear of interupting, especially because I expect you've had loads going on (and before you start it's because I'm a tight arse, my contract started a new month so I am out of the red!! ) I really hope you are all starting to settle down a bit. How is DS1 taking to being a big brother?

LaTour, thanks so much for all that info, will keep it all in mind if it's needed!

We have slowly but surely been making our way through the list, we've managed to get the glider crib, bath changer thing, bouncy chair thing and the baby swing all put up and ready, the curtains have been sorted, the pictures are on the walls, we've cleared the place where the bookcase will go on Tuesday, we've started the boy's wrapping, found the tree and some of the decs, need to find the rest, will put them up tomorrow, DH got the reserved order from Argos yesterday, and we managed to get it all in without the boys seeing, I've done the christmas cards, they are all ready to post/give out tomorrow, the bags are packed, well they aren't, the stuff is ready to go into the bags but am waiting to find out what's going on on Tuesday before I actually pack them up, but it is all together and ready if DH needed to pack it up quickly. I still need to sort some last minute pressies and get some bits in town tomorrow, wrap the rest of the boy's pressies, clear the playroom and the boy's bedroom out to make way for new things, and we need to put the clock up in the babies room but can't do that till the bookcase is here (for positioning reasons!), all of that should be done by Wednesday I think, (town stuff tomorrow, Tuesday will be taken up with the hospital, Wednesday to clear the rooms out) and ee by 'ecky thump'eth, I think we'll be done! Ooooh except the xmas food shop, can't do much about that until it's time for the fresh stuff though.

I am shattered though, so much for resting and keeping relaxed! LOL I am still going round in circles in my head about what to do about the CS/ECV/induction thing, I keep thinking 'stop thinking about it, wait till Tuesday to find out exactly what's going on and take it from there' but it doesn't work, DH has to be at work on Tuesday as well so I am going to be on my own, am not moaning at all, for all the time he has had off these last couple of weeks, he can't help having to be there sometimes! Just leaves everything up to me to decide...

Sorry I have gone on and on again, feel like I am hardly ever here anymore, and then when I am all I do is off load and bugger off again! Can't promise I'll be back loads till the middle of the week but I will try and not come on and go on about me again!

Kay I'll text you tomorrow if that's OK? Just ignore it if you're busy or whatever, don't feel like you have to be replying to everyone!

I am off now (no cheering at the back!) g'night everyone xxx

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 14/12/2008 18:09

Evening ladies!! Have been a bit busy today, went out to wollies this mornign and managed to get all DD's uniform (bar special school sweatshirt) for starting nursery in april, and all DS's for next sept and it only cost me £12... DD has got 4 polo's and 2 skirts, and DS has 2 trousers and 4 polo's plus i also got DS 2 pairs of shorts for summer and got DD 2polo's for the next size too!! Dead pleased with myself.

They also both managed to get somethign out of their xmas money off MIL- so its getting wrapped tonight and being sent to santa!!

Then after shopping we went for a naughty macdonalds for lunch, then to my mums for a few hrs. DC's helped decorate their tree, and mum had got the kids an electric blanket each for their beds!! wuhoo!!

Then when we came home and i've gutted both kids wardrobes!! All DS's 2-3 has been cleared out ready to stick either on here or on ebay as a bundle.... can't decide which yet!! And all DD's 12-18 (she may be nearly 3 but she's only just in 18-24) has been bagged up and put away for DD2.

I've been having a few BH today again... come and go, i can get a few in a row within 10mins then none again for hours then a couple more on top of each other again!! bit painful, but they are nothing compared to labour- so i know i better grin and bare it!!

Kay- read your birth story- amazing!! I still can't believe his weight!! let alone imagine pushing him out!! I'm dreading DD2 being big!! DS was 8lb8 and DD was 7lb... so anywhere between them would suit me fine!!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 15/12/2008 08:57

Morning everyone

Last full working week til January, then only one month til Mat leave

Kay- hope you've had a nice weekend with your new bundle and everything is ok going ok.

Random monday morning start but I've got some questions...Starting to think about getting together the things I need after the birth and for hosp bag in case I need one...(bit early I know but I am getting serious nesting....- cleaned all the kitchen cupboards and floor about 3 times over yesterday- but dont i know it today!! seriously achey

Anyway- been reading the threads about what to buy wondered if you guys can help

Big pants- think i will buy big cheap pants rather than disposables. Everyone says get big ones, but how big will I need? Pre preg I'd buy 10-12s. I've not put on loads of wt 14s? 16s? I've no idea how big the post baby bump is....can anyone help?

Mat pads- everyone says "buy loads" presumabably to last til Im able to go out and get some more .. come in packs of 10 (mat pads or regular pads seem to) should I be looking at getting 50 to start with, more? ? I've got no concept of how bad the bleeding will be and Im really not used to using pads so bit wary about leaking everywhere....

Thank you!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 15/12/2008 09:03

Morning Tink - xposts...

LOL at being all shopped out... - surely not!!

Enjoy having your mum there today.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/12/2008 09:14

Morning

GYo, I have bought a bag of 50 pads from MC for at home, but bought 3 x 10 packs for the hospital bag, personally I find the first 24-48 hours it is awful bleeding, I use two pads at a time and change them every hour or so, but after the initial loss it really slows down, but I still bleed for a long time 6 weeks+ with DS2, DS1 was slightly different because I had an infection so was losing for longer. I think 50 is a good place to start - lovely Monday morning conversation!! Big pant's are a must, and I'd say the bigger the better, especially once they've been packed out with pads! Your tum will probably be about the size it was at 6 months pregnant after the birth, it's only a guide but it seems to work for most.

Tink, sorry about DD's CP, not much fun I'm sure, is she OK? Sometimes it seems to knock them for six, other times it barely registers with them. Hoorah for expected deliveries though - exciting

I am about to brave town, not sure if the ice and wind is worse than the crowds, will no doubt tell all when I get back! No moaning though, oh nooooo! I feel so out of it on here, I need you all to be chatty and doing catch ups please, have lost track of everything! Not just on here either, DS1 remembered he'd bought a party invite home last week, I've no idea where the bloody thing is, or when the party is/was, or if he's missed it, bless him, when I said we might have missed it and it was my fault because of being in hospital, then mum being here and everything else that's gone on he said "Don't worry mum, it's not your fault, I forgot as well" Awwwww He is bloody lovely y'know?!!

Right town here we come - wish us luck, or at least wish us staying upright! LOL

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/12/2008 09:18

Oh GYo forgot to say as well, I don't usually use pads, and although they can feel uncomfortable especially with two in, I really prefer the proper big fat thick maternity pads, I don't know if it is because I can feel them there so I feel more 'covered' or whatever but they are certainly better than normal 'thin' pads. And they have the added bonus of giving you a bit of a cushion! Also maternity pads are better than sanitary pads because they are breathable (don't have the plasticy backing), so lessening the chance of infection.

Right I am away!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 15/12/2008 09:25

Thanks Nat- thats reallly helpful... will start stocking up! Might look at big pants now since my bump is well and truly 6mths

Enjoy town...

Tink- sorry I missed the CP as being chicken pox. Hope your DD is feeling better soon

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 15/12/2008 09:36

morning nat and gyo

i have bought 2 packs of maternity pads to start with to go in bag think there is 10 in each.i have gone with thick ones 2 agree with nat i felt very protected with thick ones as you can feel very secure and safe.
may buy some more when i do tesco shop thurs then to have @ home
i have packed big pants and disposable pants 2 found them both great last time.
enjoy town nat

dd isnt doing too bad she was feeling worse before spots came oput i reckon as that is when she was playing up and being naughty and seemed very lethargic

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 15/12/2008 09:44

Morning all. We decided to put the tree up yesterday - we have a fake one as we are normally away over Christmas and have to confess, we weren't going to do it this year but I've been feeling so un-Christmassy it went up yesterday.

DS was brilliant - he must have been practising at nursery, no problems loading up to three or four baubles onto the same branch . While we were doing it, I said we'd re-arrange when he'd gone to bed, but when it came to it, I didn't have the heart...I LIKE that there is one branch with two tiny baubles and two gold pine cones on it . I had quite a teary moment, just so proud of my little DS and very excited about Christmas now .

We did some shopping on Saturday which about finished me off, my tummy was really sore too, so I took off the dressing on my belly button to check it, and its horrible weeping and gungy and red....my three other wounds are fine, not inflamed at all, dry and healing (well, healed pretty much) so I've booked an appt. to get them checked out later. After the MRSA with the c-section, I know now to get it looked at sooner rather than later . I'm sure it will be fine though, and whether is MRSA or not, it will still just be some anti-biotics to sort it out.

Another day at home for me, who's about? What are you up to? Can you motivate me to tidy up at all?

sorkycake · 15/12/2008 10:05

flying visit..

Aw Tink chicken pox is crap! Look on the bright side though she can't pass it on to a LO

Gyo I agree with Nat, buy maternity towels (at least 30) which could last you about 4-5 days depending on flow. The blood can appear clotty, especially if you've been resting/had feet up, as the blood will pool around the cervix and start the clotting process. It looks much more shocking than it is. I always think I lose a lot of blood but it's probably not that much really. You might find you bleed a bit more after some exercise/walking.

The maternity pads are nice and fat and about 30 cm long so give you good coverage. I have got 3 packs of mat pads and 3 packs of Always nighttime heavy flow. After about 2 weeks I have moved to 'normal' sized sanitary pads, again depends on the flow I guess.

For the first week I don't go to the toilet to wee, I get in the shower, squat and run the water over my bits whilst wee'ing, clears away a lot of the blood at the same time and doesn't sting! Not to everyone's taste I accept that, but needs must.

Don't buy disposable pants, they are a complete waste of money. Go to Asda and get there value range of knicks (about 5 pairs for £3 or so), I normally buy apple-catcher ones in size 10-12 (normally a 6-8)

You'll still look pg for at least the first month, after that it just depends on how much weight you've put on that wasn't the baby ime.

Buy Lavender oil/for the bath. I also use it to help heal any grazes from the birth. Oh, and don't forget Arnica (absolutely essential for the bruising I find).

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 15/12/2008 10:10

Morning LaTour!

Tree sounds great, especially decorated by your DS. Makes it extra nice...

Tidying up? nah, sit down with a nice cup of tea and MN for a bit

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 15/12/2008 10:13

ooh thanks Sorky.... really helpful. Love the shower tip...

sorkycake · 15/12/2008 10:16

Post birth tummy-wise.
B'feeding takes it down super fast for me (but rather painfully, the thing I think me n Gin are least looking forward to again).
I have a postnatal corset from Agent Provocateur. Cost about £70 but I swear it was worth every penny. It holds all your stomach muscles together, hides bulges and generally does get rid of that feeling of your bits dropping out everytime you stand up.
I wear knickers underneath it so I only wash it every couple of days (it fastens like a 'body'). It is simply fantastic!

Cosmogirl · 15/12/2008 10:21

Morning all,

Well after thinking I was over the vomiting - threw up during dinner last night - ahhh!!It will never end!

Tink - all shopped out? Surely not....

GYo - have started thinking about the hosp bag too. Have bought some breast pads from MC, but have now realised you can get these and the maternity pads cheaper in the supermarket, so think I'll get the rest from there.

Think the nesting has kicked in with me too - did lots of cleaning at the weekend and have achey sore legs today, so am walking like John Wayne!

Kayz - amazing birth story. You make it sounds so easy!

sorkycake · 15/12/2008 10:26

link here for corset.
You wear them for the first 6 weeks iirc.

I might treat myself and get a couple of the bra's this time.

The corsets are very comfortable btw, wash lovely and have a huge resale value on ebay. I think they were fetching about £50 when I was looking and they're few and far between second-hand too.

One of my good friends had her 4th baby last year and instead of a baby-gift, I gave her my corset to wear, telling her I would keep it secret.
She said her confidence was sky-high after people were commenting on how well she looked, she never told anyone she was wearing it and couldn't thank me enough, which was very sweet.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 15/12/2008 10:31

Morning Cosmo- wow you really have suffered with the sickness.... I remember you saying how much you hated idea of it at the beginning but you sounds so used to it now!

Thanks Sorky- love the corset... what size did you buy? assume they are made to accomodate a post baby bump....

Guess it hold pants up too

Cosmogirl · 15/12/2008 10:35

I know, it is seriously ironic because I have had a phobia of sick my whole life and could count the number of times I have thrown up on one hand. Awful though it sounds I am one of those people that if someone is being sick I am running in the other direction.......
