I hope there's some more in the oven storky- i'm craving brownies after all the mention of them on here yesterday!! considering going to my mums house to see my sister (the middle one not the pg one!!) but dont know if i can be bothered- its still raining and we're all still in PJ's!!

Yes am still rather pregnant, and beginning to wish it stays that way for a few more weeks yet TBH!

Tink, they said they'd do the CS at 39 weeks if he's still breech, but if he has turned they will induce me, as I say I was hoping they'd induce at 38 weeks but not sure it's a good idea anymore! Weighing up between being too poorly to labour and having everything ready for xmas, the baby, and for everything else isn't looking good at the moment!

Sorky, am on the case list, have made a long one, put a little letter next to each thing (N for me, L for DH, no one else to call on now mums gone home) there is still too much to do, I just have to except that it isn't all going to get done and do the things that absolutely 100% need doing first and work our way through it. T'is all we can do, and if it means people don't get cards or pressies or something else then they will either have to understand or stuff it TBH!

Have also just realised if we're not looking at the baby coming next weekend, DH is on call so that weekend is up the spout anyway.

I need a beer, and a ciggarette, and a holiday.... oh for some sunshine and a pool!

Am going to pack my fantasy holiday hospital bag, doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 13/12/2008 10:35

Hey I forgot to say, I found the decs See, we're getting there! Does "putting the decorations up" count as leaving them in a box in the corner of the room?!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 13/12/2008 10:36

I could wrap the tinsel round DS1 and pretend he's the tree...

I am going now!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/12/2008 10:37

right i'm off.... still feeling awfully sick but haven't been sick yet... i expect it to happen shortly!! Might be about later but i'm really tired from a restless night and DH pinching the duvet again!!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 13/12/2008 12:45

OK, I have packed bags (well I haven't I have put everything in a pile, am not going to actually pack it till we know if it's induction or CS, but it is all ready just for DH to sling in the bag if we needed it before Tuesday, which I'd say is fairly unlikely!) And have almost finished writing the xmas cards, and have set DS1 on the task of writing the ones from him and DS2, not sure if that is cheating or clever, but it saves me doing it, and gives him something to do, clever methinks!

Marsy, stop grinning and get baking, if I can't have a beer, a ciggarette and a holiday, the least I can have is some LDC surely?! Purleeeeeeeaseee

Right am getting back to it before I stop for too long to move again! Glask, hope sickness died away?

sorkycake · 13/12/2008 12:53

Keep going Nat, you're on a roll....
pile is good
not cheating at all
and half decorated I'd say

NJ - you asked about anything special for CS? The only thing that comes to mind immediately is extra maternity pads - initially they dress it at the hospital for you, but after that one comes off and they send you home you don't get anything for it - they recommend you use maternity pads.

I thought straws were essential too, but I guess that could apply c-section or not? Its just afterwards when you want a drink, you don't want to be sitting up and lying down every two minutes so bendy straws come in very handy.

Small box of luxury chocolates are also fab as you need some tlc afterwards - again, also applies to natural vag. birth I guess!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/12/2008 15:37

Ended up being sick about 10mins after signing out and then felt fine again!! Its not often my sickness goes on till nearly 11am now...

Have been chasing round removal men to move my sofa for me on monday!! I had to make sure DH was able to be there or be off, make sure my great aunt was gonna be in, and find someone who could fit in with them times!! so by 11am on monday i should have my 2 new sofas!! I'm so so so exited!!!

Right Ladies having boys, will any of you be using dummies? I have just found some MAM dummies that i'd bought but they are blue in colour so i wont use them. They are 4m+ ones, but have small teats. FFp if anyone wants them?

Can I ask do they take away the placenta at the same as the section? Does that mean you don't have any post natal bleeding?

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 13/12/2008 18:53

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 13/12/2008 18:54

lg&t is due 13th of jan so 2 days before me.

2 answer question dd was abit late

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 13/12/2008 20:53

Sorky, they do take it away....can give you my story if you're interested....

BUT, you do still have PN bleeding.

There are a few big differences to a vaginal delivery and C-Section, some of the ones that come to mind immediately are;

  • When the baby is born, because it hasn't been pushed and squeezed out, it tends to be quite quiet initially, whilst I knew that, I forgot and was really worried that I couldn't hear him, even though everyone was telling me he was fine, I was nearly in tears...
  • Again, because the baby isn't squeezed out, the baby tends to be more snuffly and mucousy than a vaginally delivered baby, this isn't a problem but you can hear it rattling around a bit more. At my hospital they do the baby hearing test thing before you leave (not sure if that's standard?) and she did one of DS ears and said that she didn't want to fail him, but could hear so much mucous that it would probably fail. She came back the next day and he passed straight away.
  • The 'nicest' () thing about a CS baby is that their heads come out in their 'original' shape!
  • The worst thing about a CS is thinking that when you have your first PN poo, that your stomach is going to split open! For this I recommend prunes, holding a maternity pad on your stitches, and blowing your nose very, very gently!!!

I don't know if this is different CS to Vag, but I had a very strange tummy ache, which I mentioned to the nurse - she said, go for a wee. I said (know it all me, ) OH, I don't think I do - she told me to try anyway....OMG it was like niagara falls! She laughed at me afterwards, I think because of the anaesthetic you can't really feel what's what down there for a bit, so girls, remember to wee!

In terms of preparing for stuff, anything you can do to minimise lifting is a bonus - so in my house, where I buy HUGE bottles of Ariel washing liquid, if I was going in for a CS, I'd decant some out into smaller bottles, and try to have things that I need to use regularly (tea, coffee, sugar, mugs, biscuits and baby change stuff, all at work surface height to avoid stretching and bending). But most of that can be sorted when you get home - I only mention it for those that do have the opportunity to plan - mine was a home waterbirth turned into emergency c-section! Pah! I say to Birthplans!!!

Next time around I'll have more ready meals to hand to, in case I go to a c-section as we didn't have many and we were just too absorbed in DS to bother with cooking! Even frozen steam veg would have been a bonus!

Anyway, I'm rambling...sorry...I'm not even ttc yet!

sorkycake · 13/12/2008 21:00

thanks for that LaTour, that was very interesting. I was abit confused why there would still be postnatal bleeding.
I figured they would sort of d&c the uterus iyswim.

Plus with subsequent births the after pains become much worse so I had wondered about the stitches in a 2nd/3rd cs.
Having a poo/wee/sneezing is the same after VB btw, everything feels like it's gonna fall out.

How many is a woman able to have, does it curtail the amount of children you can plan?

Now I've been musing, I'm fascinated by it I have to be honest.

Is a crash cs much different to a planned? AND when the baby is preemie why do they do a vertical incision?

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 13/12/2008 22:02

I don't think an ECS is different in procedure, per se, but because my waters had broken and I'd been labouring for 12 hours before the CS, I'd had pethidine then the epidural - I didn't come down till about day three and memories are very patchy. I'd hope that with a planned CS you'd not have that complication and would be more - with it.

When I signed the consent form, I had to ask DH to read it and let me know if it was OK as I couldn't concentrate on the page...

Also, not sure about the vertical cut thing - could it be to do with the likely positioning of the baby perhaps?

On the number of CS - I think I have seen in some of the childbirth threads - numbers like 3 being a max. but also seen arguments about that. The possibilities of Vbac also help the numbers I guess.

I don't know why there was PN bleeding either and was disappointed TBH . Also, I lost quite a lot of blood during the op and it was on about day 2 that I noticed my hands seemed very pale, and mentioned it to the MW - they'd forgotten to do a blood test on me to check iron levels so they rushed one through - I was just off needing a transfusion and was immediately put on 3 daily iron supplements.

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 13/12/2008 22:09

...couldn't concentrate on the page...

....could barely even see the page!!!!

Damn that pethidine was good, when I had morphine in the recovery room on Monday after op, I remember feeling the head spin and thinking, yep, that's the drugs then....then oh! It still hurts - so I asked for more but they wouldn't let me have any for a while....I remember wishing they'd given me pethidine.

They gave me morphine when I was having the MC too, tbh, I just wanted them to keep giving it then too because the head spin meant I couldn't think about what was actually happening

I'm sure I've had too much morphine in my life

kayzr · 14/12/2008 09:41

Morning!

How are you all?

I am exhausted but happy.

BF not going very well. He doesn't seem very interested. He will only latch on for about a minute. Though at 3 this morning he stayed on for about half an hour. So we got a few hours sleep.

Will catch up properly soon.

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 14/12/2008 09:59

morning

interseting latour
glad to hear all good kay hopefully bf will get better

looks like dd has got chickenpox.
she has 16 weepy spots on front and 20 on her back would certainly explain lethargy this week and moodyness for a few weeks.
does seem in a better mood now. off to get lotion in a min, she is taking calpol.

sorkycake · 14/12/2008 10:35

Thanks for that LaTour

Morning Tink and Kay

Kay don't worry too much about feeding at this stage. As long as he has a latch that's the main thing. You won't produce much colostrum in the early days (no need to) and he'll probably start feeding more in the next day or two, especially once the milk comes in.
He's not going to starve (10lb man, I can't get my head round that weight!)
Looking forward to seeing a pic and reading your birth story :D

Dh is at shops, we have tons to get through today, so might be awol until the week starts.

Wonder if Nat is working through her list....

kayzr · 14/12/2008 10:58

Thanks Sorky, here is the birth story. It is a bit rambly though.

I had a show about 7 in the morning and contractions started pretty much straight away. I rang DH to get him to come home from worl and then rang the labour ward to get them to send a mw. She came about 9 and I was only 3-4cm when she examined me at 11. She went and did a fews jobs at the dr's surgery and came back at 12. By this time the contractions were getting more painful. She examined me at 2 and I was only 5cm. So we decided to wait a couple of hours and she would examine me again at 4. I was using my tens machine for pain relief and I don't know what I would have done without it.
When she examined me at 4 I was 6-7cm so we decided she would break my waters. The contractions got more painful almost straight away so I started using the gas and air. The second MW arrived at about quarter past 4.
I did want to be on all fours leaning on the sofa but when I did try that I found it really uncomfortable. So I ended up sat up against the sofa which was actually really good because between contractions I could rest my head on the sofa. They had to get a 3rd MW to get some more G&A as the pipe was broken so lots was leaking out.

Then at 20 past 6 I felt like I needed to push, the MW said to go with what my body was saying but I did need her to tell me to push. I just felt like I needed that instruction. At half 6 the gas and air ran out and I had to do all the pushing without it. I was only pushing for 34 minutes but it felt like hours. I got a small tear that didn't need stitching.

He weighs a huge 10lb 5oz and the MW thinks that his size is why it took longer than we were expecting.

I am so happy I got my homebirth. We weren't too sure about it and finally decided to go for it just 2 weeks ago. If you had asked me when the G&A ran out if I liked being at home I would have said no but now I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am still amazed at how big he is. DS1 was 7lb 2oz so it was a big jump.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 14/12/2008 11:19

Wow Kay, congratulations... what a great story... Its funny to hear what was happening through the day when us lot on the wagon were self combustng with excitement... you are an inspiration for homebirth

Mental note to get a TENS machine. Did u buy or hire it?

Morning Tink, Sorky and others lurking...

kayzr · 14/12/2008 12:08

Thanks GYo, I bought mine from mothercare when I was expecting DS1. It was brilliant.
