Nutty, have you considered a chiropractor to help the pain? Are there any good ones near you?

SantasNuttySTaff · 07/12/2008 18:59

i have but according to my doc it wont help as it will cause more harm than good, phisio being more for muscular and chiro being for the bones apparently, i asked for both at the time, basicaly it has come to the op stage due to the disc bieing ruptured and the jelly stuff has come out and is on the nerves, manipulation wont make it go back, so needs to be cut off, just damage limitation now so need to rest to avoid extensive damaging of the nerves thats how it was explained to me

SalBySea · 07/12/2008 19:02

SNS I think your doc is misinformed. Most chiropractors do a lot of muscle work and sometimes their treatment of patients is purely muscular. Osteopaths do even more work with muscles. Your muscles are connected to your bones so neither chiropractors or physios look at just one of those areas in isolation as they effect each other

SalBySea · 07/12/2008 19:04

p.s. I am currently having chiropractic treatment for a fixed sacroilliac joint (bum pain basically )
the problem is muscular and my chiropractor is treating the muscles not the bones

SantasNuttySTaff · 07/12/2008 19:24

lol dont take my explination to literal, i was in agony and probably wasnt listening or interpreting what she said properly at all (she did bang on quite a bit and was sticking pins in my bum, back and legs at the time lol)

i will give the chiro down the road a buzz and see what they say tommorow, the only reason i'm not optomistic is cos both doc and hosp said no when i mentioned going for treatment, anything is worth a shot though i cant bear the thought of just being inactive until april, giving birth, then waiting till they deem it ok for me to have an op (i may go insane)

Hello everyone,

Just popping in briefly to say hi and hope you're all OK. Sorry some of you are suffering so much...

I had my 22 wk scan on Friday, although as I knew it was a boy already and as he refused to turn his head so I could see his face, it wasn't that momentous. He's head down, which may explain why I too have been having pelvic pain and a tendency to waddle like an old lady after any prolonged period sitting down.

Went swimming today, did 35 lengths and it did me the world of good. If the pool was open at normal hours, I'd go more often, but 12-1.30 on weekdays isn't much use to me.

We did the Christmas tree today, and I decorated the house a bit, so feeling quite cheery, though I have a huge meeting at work tomorrow afternoon where the possibility of striking will be debated (that's France for you...), so not looking forward to that, even though I personally am in favour of striking for the first time ever. It's a sad, sad sign of how bad things have got in the French university system when AA is contemplating strike action

VirginBoffinMum · 07/12/2008 21:13

Nutty, SalbySea is right, chiros really work with soft tissue, not bones. Prolapsed discs are their bread and butter, and they might be able to gently ease the pain a bit. They will also probably tell you to use a flexible cold pack on it, and give some advice about staying as mobile as possible, which will improve your birth outcomes. Make sure you check them out with the General Chiropractic Council before you let them near you though!

www.gcc-uk.org/chiro_search.cfm

Some chiros specialise in pregnant people and if you can find one of them that would be ideal.

SantasNuttySTaff · 07/12/2008 21:24

ok thanks Sal & boffin, will def give a buzz tommorow and let you know how it goes xx

VirginBoffinMum · 07/12/2008 21:29

Best of luck. I will be very interesting to know what you think after seeing someone.

VirginBoffinMum · 07/12/2008 21:30

SantasNuttySTaff · 08/12/2008 09:44

right quick update just got off the phone with nice chiro lady (deals with preggie ladies as one of her special areas), got an appointment for wednesday night, she said that shes going to asses me and see what she can do, she did say that it would be very little but she can def give me some advice for management if she thinks its a bad idea to do treatment

so things are looking up the price isnt that bad either at £30.

gingersarah · 08/12/2008 09:53

Hi all,

Thanks boffin for the tips - you are very inspirational! I don't have much to do except sort out presents and travel so there is no reason for me to feel overwhelmed - just lots of bitty things keep popping up and I am projecting stress about emotional things onto practical things. Everyone who is praising the internet and its magical shops is so very right. I will be raising a glass to santa's magical interweb on Christmas day as should anyone who is getting a present from me!

Speaking of glasses, and the internet, I am even enjoying choosing wine to bring my dad although I will not be laying into it with such gay abandon as I usually do.

SantasNuttyStaff, I am not going to Greece although funny you should say that I was considering it on Saturday night! I am travelling considerably less distance in the UK, getting the car serviced tomorrow like a good responsible person (with little bro, DP and nanodude in the car with me I am feeling very grown up and parent-like). 250 miles seems like enough for me tho as the only driver. This time maybe I will make other people get out and put the petrol in like I always think about doing in the dark mean recesses of my brane - I know I am petty but I always think, ok, one of you non-drivers could do this bit instead of sitting cosy and asking me to bring chocolate. AIBU????

VirginBoffinMum · 08/12/2008 10:02

Hello Nutty, I am so pleased you have found a nice chiro lady - it was clearly meant to be - at least you'll get a bit of a second opinion, and I am very reassured she's prepared to leave you alone if it's a really bad situation that needs trad medicine, which has to be a good thing.

If she does do any laying on of hands, you might find she works on different parts of your body than the actual damaged bit, because they believe the whole of the back is interconnected and adjusting, say, your neck helps things lower down.

Hi Ginger, I am glad you are feeling more positive about Christmas. I have to say I hated it until recently, but this is the first year for ages that I have felt on top of things! (It helped being more or less housebound but online, actually).

SantasNuttySTaff · 08/12/2008 10:09

Gingersarah -yanbu! lol if i could get my dp to fill my car up on long jouneys i would, sadly he's not a driver (yet!!! hes getting a week intensive as a crimbo prezzy from family cos i'm not allowed to drive & he wants to drive me to the hosp when labour starts this time bless) and has no real clue about cars and would probably end up putting diesel in instead of petrol!

Ice Wine (i think that what its called or eiswine maybe???) is quite nice as a gift pricey but nice, its a desert wine from frozen grapes

BabyCRIMBOlat · 08/12/2008 10:12

Morning all

Firstly gingersarah no you are not being unreasonable at all - I get so cross if I am driving and people fall asleep and lay around in the car! I have a rule that whoever is in the front has to stay awake if I do!

Nutty - so exciting about the scan - are you going to find out the sex? and yay for the chiro!

I was indeed out Xmas shopping for the weekend and getting myself all festive - and while I have to say I like internet shopping for bits, I do like going out and getting all the bags and stopping for lunch and drinks - me and DH both love to shop so we had a great day yesterday and then put all my decorations up yesterday and my TWO trees (much to the humour of DH breaking two of the pots for the Xmas tree and then stomping off to Homebase to buy a big wooden one which actually looks much nicer and has the added bonus of not breaking when dropped!

Anyway, I got ALL my Christmas shopping done just a few tiny tiny stocking filler bits (chocolates) to get now and then I am all done but they are not big things and not essential lets say. All the main presents are done thank the lord... I am feeling very proud of myself!

Am feeling good today but really really wishing this was the last week at work not 2 more weeks!!!

SantasNuttySTaff · 08/12/2008 10:13

the intyweb is a wonderful thing indeed!!

VirginBoffinMum · 08/12/2008 10:18

Well, I am off to the physio lady now. I have big hopes!

hollytree · 08/12/2008 10:21

hi everyone - hope the chiro can at least help with pain a bit nutty - hope the scan is good tomorrow.

christmathsmummy - lol at you raiding the advent calendars - thats a proper pg craving to go to those lengths .

came to work today to find that all the paralegals have been put onto 4 day weeks so they are a bit depressed. the bosses have taken 20% pay cuts too but still coming in 5 days. Doesnt affect me as I am three days and wouldnt be much point in me coming in for 2 days, but they would prefer me to start mat leave as early as possible.

I think we might compromise on the start of march - not ideal for money but i'd rather that than have no job to come to.

might give me time to make some kilts, and make some money that way instead.

still dont feel all that christmassy - need to get a few things sorted with the house - slight leak for example in the roof, and maybe then I can relax.

sorry - very me me me post, but i dont have much experience of chiropractors etc to share.

SantasNuttySTaff · 08/12/2008 10:25

defo going to find out the sex!! sooooo excited yay

well done bb! look at all of you virtually finished all of your crimbo shopping, wrapping etc i haven't even started will do it tommorow i know what i need so it is a case of ordering and snatch and grab when dh goes to town

the cats have killed my tree already dh has to keep putting it back together lol hes not amused, dd has requested a pink one for her bedroom so am going to end up with 2 trees as well :-)

baublerella · 08/12/2008 10:34

Hi Everyone,

Everyone sounds busy busy!

SantasNuttyTaff great news about the scan! How exciting

VirginBoffinMum/SantasNuttyTaff good luck with the chiros - I can't imagine having all that pain and inconvenience on top of being pg!!

GingerSarah glad to hear you're feeling a bit more positive - make sure your passengers do all the little jobs AND supply you with chocolate and treats throughout the journey

hollytree hang in there - two weeks will fly by...

babyCRIMBOlat can't believe you have got two trees! I am going to buy a little electrical one from habitat this year...I'm ashamed....

Has anyone heard from SnowySunshine? I'm worried that she hasn't posted for a while and she's usually pretty chatty... hope everything is ok...

Sadly, I haven't progressed from my one HUGE Christmas preparation (hanging a wreath on our front door) but plan to organise Xmas pressies this week...hopefully....

The good news is I have started feeling kicks finally - I was so excited to feel the first ones (on Saturday) I had a wee cry Now I can feel them in the bath, when I am lying on the couch and at night when I am getting ready to sleep

Love, Barbarella XX

SantasNuttySTaff · 08/12/2008 10:35

Boffin - Good luck, fingers crossed for you

Holly - poor you, with work situation and leaky roof! xx do you make actual skirt type kilts? how cool :-)

hollytree · 08/12/2008 10:39

thats great about the kicks baublerella - you must be so relieved. I am still waiting to feel them regularly - just very occasionally so am looking forward to it being more constant in the next few weeks.

nutty - i did a kilt making course when on mat leave with ds, and learned to make adult male kilts, but have been practising to make child ones, baby ones, and my next trial will be female short ones. Its not great for making money but its good to do in the evenings when ds goes to bed, and its a little extra cash (especially if customers buy the accessories too).
