not sure why I'm embarrased to tell DH names when he seems to have no shame whatsoever in his name choices.

The Baby Name book has informed him that Valerie is also used, albeit rarely, as a male name in France which has reinforced his belief that it is a good name for a boy. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

B52s · 01/12/2008 14:57

no no no
Valerie is a GIRLS name
unless you'll be sending him to school in France?

SpringySunshine · 01/12/2008 14:58

I think my throwing skills will only be adequate for a couple of years. I'm not a sporty woman, put it that way

I used to torture my dog when I was little. I used to try to ride him, tie his ears together, tie his tail to the furniture, force him half into my jumpers... He'd have probably welcomed just a bit of eyeliner doodling. Bless him though, he never once snapped at me. He often miraculously disappeared, though. To this day I'm not sure where he hid

LuLuBai · 01/12/2008 14:59

Daffers? Now I'm picturing Daffy Duck (profuse apologies to your mum)

Anyway DD has woken up so I had better peg it if we are going to get to this Christmas party.

Toodlepip.

SantasNuttySTaff · 01/12/2008 14:59

i do hair at home now, as long as it doesn't touch the scalp its ok i.e foils or cap
coulouring is ok but as a rule avoided completely just because your skin is different when you are pregnant due to hormones etc and aparently in some very rare cases the chemicals in colourants have affected babies in utero

but i have had my hair coloured with dd and will with this one when i can sit in a chair long enough i just have to put up with a bit of rootage or just highlights rather than an all over coulour

SpringySunshine · 01/12/2008 15:00

Oh, but! BUT! The French have that strange double barrelled thing - like there are French boys called 'Pierre-Marie' or whatever. Especially if 'Marie' is their mother's name or something. They go with the fact that it's obviously a woman's name, but the first name is the gender qualifier. & we don't have that tradition here!

SpringySunshine · 01/12/2008 15:03

I've never really done much hair-colouring. My hair's really dark brown, so it's almost pointless - it's difficult to colour in the first place & roots look awful as soon as they appear. DP is blond &, before I knew him, had all sorts of colours. Accidentally sending it bright pink put him off a little bit, though

SantasNuttySTaff · 01/12/2008 15:06

i always have my hair pillar box red for crimbo and purple for my birthday :-)

bit difficult this year as the sofa is not the place to be hairdressing really

B52s · 01/12/2008 15:09

Valerie-LuLuBai?

SpringySunshine · 01/12/2008 15:13

Ohhhh, I really want pillar box red hair now. I doubt it'd suit me in the slightest, but it seems like fun. I think it'd be too difficult during pregnancy with my really dark hair though? I imagine it'd need bleaching first, etc?

SantasNuttySTaff · 01/12/2008 15:17

yup bleaching aplenty i'm afraid then on with the red

Kalikaroo · 01/12/2008 15:18

Hi everyone! Been a bit of a lurker recently since I haven't been managing to keep up with the thread.

Just booked our plane tickets to go and see the in-laws at Christmas! Cost a bloomin' arm and a leg, but it'll be worth it. Even though DH and I have been together more than 5 years and been married for 2 I haven't actually met them yet!!! So I reckoned it would probably be a good thing to do before bubs arrives! They don't speak any english though, so it should be a laugh.... At least if MIL decides to give me some advice I can just pretend I have no idea what she's talking about

SpringySunshine I can completely sympathise with you because my DH hasn't exactly been in the mood recently either (slight understatement!). We've also been arguing loads since I've been pregnant. Getting me quite down really because I think it's just that he feels so under pressure with the new baby on the way. I asked him if he still fancied me and he said yes. He told me the reason he doesn't feel like getting up to any bedroom antics is because he's got a lot on his mind which makes his libido vanish. I feel pretty rejected, like you, because I've been offering it to him on a plate, but he's not interested. Maybe it's the same with your bloke? He's feeling under so much pressure about the responsibility etc that it's just squashing his libido. Don't think there's much you can do except be supportive and just try to maintain cuddles and affection and wait for him to get interested again. I warned my DH that there will be a few months of no sex after bubs is here so he should make the most of it now!! (didn't work though...ho hum..)

SantasNuttySTaff · 01/12/2008 15:21

lots of upkeep too as fades to brassy orange quite quickly needs topping up fortnightly gotta try and resist washing your hair too frequently to keep the colour longer

but i love having my red hair am all natural at the moment (dark brown)

BabyBolat · 01/12/2008 15:31

Well I am rocking the blonde / mousy brown root look! it's lovely - what with that, the expanding stomach and wind - I am a real treat!!!

Kalikaroo - where do your PIL live? sorry if you have said before?

Kalikaroo · 01/12/2008 15:34

BabyBolat they live in greece. I don't speak a work of greek..... - should really try to learn a few words before I go!

BabyBolat · 01/12/2008 15:36

I didn't know a word of Turkish before meeting DH's parents - I just smiled and nodded and they were fine (thankfully i am now more competent and DH is fluent in both so makes communicating much easier!)

BoffinMum · 01/12/2008 15:39

God I wish I could go off to Greece for a bit. It's so grey and miserable here.

However I am proud to announce I have nearly finished my Christmas shopping (online) so how cool is that?? I have wrapped 50% of the booty as well. You see, there are distinct advantages to being cooped up at home ...

SpringySunshine · 01/12/2008 15:56

Kalikaroo, it sounds very similar to what's going on here. I wish he'd just explain things, though. He's such a poor communicator & leaves me to panic over all sorts of little things that he could easily fix. Like I could get all upset because he said he prefers the colour green to blue & I'll spend ages talking to him about it & trying to get over it & at the end he'll say 'oh, but I didn't really mean that - I LOVE blue', or whatever. Obviously that's a very simplistic example, but it's the cause of about 90% of our arguments. I've also tried pointing out the imminent lack of sex, but he's not grabbing hold of the current opportunity, so we'll see. Maybe we'll just never have sex again

& can I hide in your suitcase please? I'd love a trip to Greece. I won't be any bother, I promise

Nutty, I may do the red thing next year - I really fancy it now. Definitely can't be faffed with it at the moment, though. It's hard enough being bothered to keep myself smelling reasonably fresh, let alone recolouring & stuff.

BabyBolat, I'm possibly even more sexy than you are! Huge tummy, wind, limp, boring hair, terrible skin, reluctance to wear anything but very comfortable pyjamas... Actually, it's no wonder DP doesn't want me

SantasNuttySTaff · 01/12/2008 16:05

ooohhhh i would so love to be going to greece for crimble

Boffin- How supremely organised and good are you!!! well done!!

BabyBolat · 01/12/2008 16:12

BoffinMum - i am sorry I am choosing to ignore what you just said because it scares me! Cannot believe it is only a few weeks until Christmas! Well done, now where is that sand for me to stick my head in!!

Ha ha springy, I am fighting the urge to take my uncomfortable bra off in the middle of the office - if I hada more supportive top and no leaky boobs it may actually be an option! Pregnancy really is a beautiful process! Still only 15.5 weeks left!!

SantasNuttySTaff · 01/12/2008 16:15

what i want to really know is where this pregnacy "bloom" myth comes from i certainly haven't encountered myself "blooming" with dd or this bump

BabyBolat · 01/12/2008 16:18

I am getting 'bloom'-ing large and 'bloom'-ing annoyed with the side affects! maybe that is what they were getting out.

SantasNuttySTaff · 01/12/2008 16:21

lol

SpringySunshine · 01/12/2008 16:23

I know! I'm withering, never mind blooming.

Having said that, I just got dressed & brushed my hair (I have done other stuff today, I promise - I've cleaned the bathroom, done some uni work & a few loads of laundry... I just did them whilst still in my PJs ) & I don't actually look too bad. I don't look like my usual self at all & I'm definitely huge & spotty, but I don't feel repulsed by what I see.

In a lot of ways, pregnancy is quite good like that - I'm no longer worrying about how flat my tummy is, or wishing my boobs were a bit bigger. I look, objectively, fairly awful (& usually feel it, too) but I've become mostly accepting of what the pregnancy's doing to my body. I just look like I'm having a baby - & what's better than that?

I still wish I was 'glowing', though.

SpringySunshine · 01/12/2008 16:25

Haha, I think you're onto something there, BabyBolat.
