Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
yawningmonster · 25/11/2008 06:52

Hi all and thanks to divedaisy for new thread.
I didn't have the nuchal scan and won't be having amnio even though it was strongly encouraged due to my age but will have 20 week scan as we want to know what flavour bean we are having. Fairly certain this is another boy as although the morning sickness was much worse, everything else is the same, carrying the same, same food affiliations etc, etc. Happy either way but will be surprised if scan shows lack of dangly bits. I sleep in whatever position I can get comfortable in, I remember with ds being really paranoid about all the "don't lie this way or that way" but now I have him to look after as well as being pregnant I hit the pillow and sleep in what ever position I land in.

Good morning everyone. DD has been ill over the last couple of days with a fever, and she threw up while coughing last night. This morning, I had some severe tummy cramps and made frequent visits to the toilet. Not diarrhea (yet) but feels similar.

I'm hoping it's a virus I caught off DD, but also panicking that it might be toxoplasmosis or salmonella. I have the next blood test's prescription, which I should have done in about a week. Should I do it tomorrow morning and see if I have toxoplasmosis?

runningmonkey · 25/11/2008 09:02

Morning Cote. Sorry to hear you are unwell. Have you done anything to think toxoplasmosis is a risk? Its quite rare but if you are worried at all, maybe you should go get the blood test asap to at least alleviate your worries.

CoteDAzur · 25/11/2008 09:36

I don't think I ate anything suspect, but who knows?

Does anyone know what toxoplasmosis symptoms look like? I've been Googling but it's all very vague.

runningmonkey · 25/11/2008 10:43

Cote, I had a quick look online too and as you say, the symptoms are vague or one site said you might not have any at all! I'd give your Doc or MW a call if you are worried, that's what the NHS website says to do.
Please try not to worry, you prob just have whatever your dd had. Hope she is better by the way.

SweetBROODY · 25/11/2008 10:44

Morning ladies Cote Sorry your feeling so down

llareggub Sugars do tend to be higher in the morning when your body is starting up - just continue to monitor them the way you have been and try not to worry - I know what your going through and although its hard you WILL be fine..

even the injections are not that bad when you think about what your going to get out of it in the end!

SweetBROODY · 25/11/2008 10:56

I work for the government too... so many civil servants on here!

SweetBROODY · 25/11/2008 10:59

MsG I know what you mean I havent gotten over my MMC in May so I was in the same boat.. have only just started being a bit more positive.. I sleep on my tummy as well - a little worried though as I havent put on any weight at all....

Nipples hurt like anything in the cold though! No Barnet ladies on here yet?

Jael · 25/11/2008 11:07

Morning ladies, just signing in on the new thread.

I was a stay at home Mom before I got pregnant this time round, so no maternity money for me I don't think I'm entitled to anything, never really been sure.

I'd like to say on a brighter note, but it's not. I got really upset last night, loads of crying, the works. I'll be 17weeks tomorrow, and I'm in lots of pain because of this SPD. I'm seeing the consultant on the 3rd, but I was doing some reading up and it says that in the later stages of pregnancy most sufferers are wheelchair bound and a few can use crutches...made me start thinking about buying for the baby, how am I going to manage? We need to go pushchair shopping, car seat shopping, loads really. Is it too early to go now before it gets too bad? Or do I wait, and then I might not be able to go because I'm in too much pain?

Jael X

runningmonkey · 25/11/2008 11:15

Jael, so sorry to hear you're feeling

Re money: Did you get a folder thingy about finance when you went for your scan? in there there is some info about 'maternity allowance' which you might be entitled to. I'll see if I can find it and check it out for you (am home with lost voice so looking for things to do!)

About shopping, can you do some of it online? Maybe check out pushchairs etc now while you are still a bit mobile and then order online nearer the time? sorry, don't know if that will be any help or not but thought it might be worth a try. We're planning to do most of our shopping in the Jan sales to try to save some cash - would be happy to help out if you're around Cambridge!

SweetBROODY · 25/11/2008 11:27

Jael thats sooo sad You can do what I did - get the stuff and leave it with a friend or parents? I was given a few early gifts that I did not want to take home so have asked my mum to look after it... I know its cheating slightly but if you have to you should - It will cheer you up as well..

SweetBROODY · 25/11/2008 11:29

We're waiting for the sales as well... Jael Happy to help to if your in London!

Jael · 25/11/2008 11:35

I'm not I'm afraid. I'm in the West Midlands.
It's not quite the same is it, buying online, I love going out and trying all the things and seeing all the other pregnant ladies I don't want to curse the pregnancy buying too early, but I don't want to miss out later down the line. It is really upsetting me, I keep crying about it, and worrying about everything now, If i'm immobile by the end DP will be at work allday, I'll still have to look after DD. I don't understand why I've got this, this time when I never had anything like this with DD.

runningmonkey · 25/11/2008 11:48

No Jael I know its not, just trying to help. Hope your consultant has some positive advice for you.

Jael · 25/11/2008 11:51

Sorry if it sounded like I was being funny, I wasn't X

runningmonkey · 25/11/2008 11:51

Just reread that, I meant online vs real shopping is not the same obviously!

Is is just me or is pregancy brain really kicking in now?

runningmonkey · 25/11/2008 11:53

crossed posts
I didn't think you were being funny at all, I know completely what you mean re shopping.

SweetBROODY · 25/11/2008 11:56

Try to stay positive - the positive vibes should be good for you - If I were you I would do my shopping and just not take it home!

SweetBROODY · 25/11/2008 11:59

Shopping online is defo not the same!

runningmonkey · 25/11/2008 12:10

While we're on the subject of shopping...

As a first timer, what kinds of things would you recommend I definitely buy? I've got a cot, moses basket coming from a friend and PILs have kindly offered to buy us a pushchair, but what else do I need to get beforehand??

Jael · 25/11/2008 12:11

on a nicer note, does anyone want to help me find a pushchair?lol I'd say our max amount we want to spend is £300, don't really want to go up to that much money really, as we've got alot to buy, as stupid me got rid of all DD stuff. I'm hoping to have a c-section, so we don't want a pushchair that's too heavy. We want one that's not too big, and that can be used from birth onwards. We made the mistake of having a huge pram/pushchair with DD and ended up hardly using it and buying a cheap stroller instead. When baby's born DD will be 31/2 so think were gonna get one of them buggie boards. We've saw a nice pushchair in M+P but have read bad reviews on their pushchairs so am abit

I'm hoping consultant will help me on the 3rd, as I can't carry on like this. Thanks for trying to help girls, sorry for babbling X

LoobyLou36 · 25/11/2008 13:23

Sorry to hear about you trouble Jael.

Sending you positive thoughts.

LoobyLou36 · 25/11/2008 13:27

runningmonkey good question...I too am a first timer.

I've so far been donated a moses basket, bottle sterliser, cot, PIL offering to buy our pushchair too so I'm thinking of buying a second hand quinny buzz off ebay. Also will be donated a big bag of newborn and 0-3 month babygrows etc from SIL who has an 8wk old. Luckily mostly neutral colours apparently.

Are you finding out the sex?

LoobyLou36 · 25/11/2008 13:29

Jael quite a few people recommend the Quinny Buzz on here...but they are quite expensive new - I'm looking to buy secondhand.

pulapula · 25/11/2008 13:46

Jael,

Sorry you are feeling so down. It's hard enough at the latter stages in terms of mobility, without having the added problems associated with SPD.

I wouldn't worry about getting things too early - you just need somewhere to store them (obviously) but i'm sure if anything went wrong or you changed your mind on the purchases, most stores would give a refund/exchange if you keep the receipts etc (i have had no problems returning unwanted/needed baby gifts without proof of purchase, even months after they were given to me).
