detsy - lol at your DD launching things across the room from her cot then deciding she needs them.
My DD used to do that with her dummies (to make me go back into the room and pick them up for her obviously). She was EXTREMELY put out when I bought one of those dummy clip things and attached it to her sleeping bag. It was so firmly attached that no matter how hard she tried she couldn't pull it off (and she did try hard!!) and eventually gave up trying and went to sleep. (chuckle, chuckle, I do like outwitting my children!) Hasn't been a problem since.

I think controlled crying is fine and sometimes the only way to solve persistant sleep issues. But it has to be CONTROLLED and you need to have a plan and stick to it otherwise the baby will get confused.
(so speaks the hard-hearted mummy!)

My DS is nearly 6 and bedtime is full of his tactics t trying to make it last and last! Firstly, he'll take his time over his supper, then he'll start messing around getting his PJs on (being Indiana Jones swinging around the place!!), teeth cleaning is an exercise, and I insisit he trys to do a wee-wee, then IF there's time a quick story (if there;s plenty of time I get him to read to me!), then I have to sing 'Baby Mine', give him a huggle in bed, he insists on a tickle session (which I don't do) and a back scratch. After that we now do a 'feel the Baby Bump' bit with him also saying night night to my belly button and giving tummy a kiss. Then... when I try to leave he wants more kisses, more milk, more hugs, 'i'm scared of.....' etc etc. I tell him good night squirt, he replies good night buster and I leave!! Believe it or not I can get all this done some nights in 10-15 mins, but I have been 'held up' for up to 45-60 mins due to him messing about!!

Oh and as for the key ring! It is only that - a key ring. No place for batteries. Anyway it is far from discreet, as it states 'sex toys' on it along with the shop details!!! Can just see my mums face if she saw that!!!

By the way, confession time - so far today (and its only 10.45am) I have eaten
2 slices toast and marmalade
3 chocolate hob nobs
2 packets of Pom-Bear crisps
and I'm currently eyeing up the two cherry scones left from yesterday and also fantasising about McDonalds for lunch!!

(have just had to hide the 2 crisp packets in my office downstairs as my cleaner is about to empty the kitchen bin and I don't want her thinking I'm a big greedy heifer.) Well she probably does anyway......it was hilarious when I told her I was pregnant again. Her reaction was 'OH NOOOOOOOO - but you've just lost all that weight!' (I'd just lost 3.5 stone)
I laughed and laughed - she looked so horrified.
Then the following week she brought me a 'Congratulations' card!

Anyway am clearly having a hungry baby day.
Better do some work now.
Byeeeeee
(scones here I come)

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/12/2008 10:56

OH divedaisy - shame! I thought you had the same key ring as me - mine has space for batteries and rabbits ears, and goes bzzzzzz when you switch it on.
(I've never used it by the way - although DD1 did find it in a drawer recently and asked what it was. I said 'it's daddys. Put it down'. )

Jael · 04/12/2008 10:57

I'm probably going to make you all Our DD will be 3 the start of January. She's always been slightly ahead of herself, she was fully potty trained by 18 months, and has slept through since then. She goes down at 7 and is not up again till 8 the next morning. She went into her bed from cot when she was 2, and since then she's had a cup in her room with water in, for if she gets thirsty, and her potty and pack of toilet wipes. When she wakes up in the morning, before she calls me, she'll do a wee/poo on her potty. I know were lucky, and that this next baby might not be the same at all, but I've worked in plenty of nurseries and with a wide age range of children, I'm just so proud of her, one thing that worries us though, is that she may backtrack when this LO arrives?

Midwife is phoning me tomorrow to sort out getting in touch with community physio. I don't drive, and can't afford the £20 round trip the taxi driver charges to the doctors once a week for physio. If they'll give me a support belt it's a bonus, gonna put a bit of money to one one just in case though, cause the cheapest I've managed to find is £40 with p+p.

Sorry for long post

divedaisy - the keyring sounds very tasteful and subtle! The whole tale has had me chuckling. A new oven is very exciting though, I had one of those for my birthday this year and it's revolutionised my life - I now have temperature control other than 'infernal' or 'off'!

Re CC: Yes, in all my long waffle about it, I forgot to mention the timings and the need for consistency! We did 5 mins, then 6,7 and so on, but never had to get much further than 10, iirc.

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/12/2008 11:03

Jael - yes am very . My DD2 is just 2 but isn't potty trained and still in her cot. She's very strong willed and I could be in for a long haul with her!

DS has just turned 2 and isn't potty trained yet. He has got the hang of "aiming" and will happily pretend to be daddy by standing by the loo, but he doesn't actually have a wee until he gets into the bath.

He loves wearing pants around the house but isn't quite ready yet. I'm hoping he'll get there by easter so that he can start at his nursery.

Jael · 04/12/2008 11:12

We've just been lucky to be honest, she's our first and only child. When I tell people about her, they get it into their heads that we must of pushed her like, but we never did, we went at her own pace, she's just forward for her age. She's just started drawing full pictures of people yeah, but she's had me in stitches recently, cuz she'll only draw men lol and she gives them a big huge head, with eyes nose and mouth, two arms which always come out of the head, two huge long legs, and in between the two long legs, she draws another long line, which is the willy lol just slightly worried that she's going to do one of her fabulous drawings at playgroup and me.

Although actually maybe I can make you all . DD1 (now 7) slept through the night (from 7pm-7am) from about 8 wks. I used to try to wake her at 10.30 for another feed but she refused to wake up so in the end we just left her! But then she's always been laid back. I used to send DH in to her at 7am to wake her becuase I'd be in a panic that she had had a cot death in the night.
(Bizarrely I put her in her own room at 6 wks - can't remember why I did that?????? Might have been cos she was such a noisy snuffly sleeper?) Incidentally DD2 was in our room with us until 7mths!
We thought all babies were like DD1 - UNTIL we had DD2 - Good god we didn't know what had hit us.
Just remember - they are all totally different!
Wonder what the next one will be like......am praying for another laid back one like DD1!
but probably can't be that lucky twice.

Mushroom cup-a-soup at the moment. Mmmmmm.

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/12/2008 11:21

Dandylioness - I think you might be right about 2.5 being a good age for toilet training. DD1 was in nappies until then, refused to sit on a potty (ever) then we moved to a new house when she was 2.5. The first day in the new house she took her nappy off and sat on the loo. Never had a nappy on after that (and never had an accident either). But as I said, she's a low-maintenance child!

Jael · 04/12/2008 11:30

The only reason we did it so early, is from 12 months she was very vocal, she knew what a wee and a poo was. Her nappy would be dry for ages, and she'd completely stop what she was doing to stand there and wee (in her nappy of course) and then shed tell us "wet".
So at about 15 months we put her in knickers.
We had a week or so of a few wet incidents, but soon enough, she'd just march over to her potty and sit down and wee (with her knickers still on) lol So we kept an eye on her and when she went over to her potty we'd pull her knickers down for her.

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/12/2008 11:34

Talking of knickers, is it lucky to have them on inside out (just realised mine are)
or does that just apply to putting your nightie on inside out?

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/12/2008 11:36

Ok, 2 satusumas as well.
Can you tell I've got loads of work to do, and I don't want to do it?!
I believe this is what is called procrastination (or buggering about).

Jael · 04/12/2008 11:36

I don't know, I know it's bad luck if you put something on back to front, and switch it to the right way, your supposed to leave it on back to front lol

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/12/2008 11:38

Well, I'm leaving my knickers inside out but that's because I'm too idle.

Jael · 04/12/2008 11:42

I feel quite bad, all I've had to eat is a cereal bar.

Jael · 04/12/2008 11:47

I'm too lazy to scroll threw all the pages, but yesterday at my apt, when they finally found baby's heartbeat cuz he was hiding lol it was 140, is that supposed to be girl?

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/12/2008 11:49

Think 140 should make it a boy.
If you believe that stuff.
Or it could just have been asleep and therfore a resting heart rate.
I can guarantee it's either a girl or a boy!!!!!
(or do you know the sex already?)
