Jael, don't worry about your dp cooking. Mine does most/all of it now. I used to like and do much of the cooking but have had other things on my mind. Usually,DH comes home from work, I'll have just put DDs to bed and then I do an hour or so of work or rest whilst DH makes our supper. He also did our Thanksgiving dinner this weekend, I did none of it. nothing, how embarrassing as well .

i still tell him what to put in things, though, like stews and soups and what herbs belong with what veg/meat etc. i feel a little better that at least i'm supervising (ahem).

EmmalinaC · 02/12/2008 14:12

Aftenoon! Am at work today so just looking in while I eat my cheese and ham panini - no vegetables again... oh dear!

How exciting that some of you have snow. Am at my desk looking out over Hackney in the rain and it aint pretty!

I quite like being in charge of cooking at home - it feels like 'a break' although at the moment we seem to be reaching for the takeaway menus a bit too often

pulapula · 02/12/2008 14:14

Afternoon ladies,

Just popping in today to say I checked the HR on my doppler last night and LO was around 162 bpm so guess that would indicate a girl. I was very excited about it and all my doubts about this method as a sex predictor (ie MW got DD wrong!) have gone out the window lol. I seem to remember DS being around 140-145 which would tie in- not sure what DD was but MW was going on the train/galloping horses thing mainly, but can't remember which way round it was. This one sounded more like a train...

As for cooking, I am embarassed to say we make a lot of use of the microwave and oven and "ready-made" meals, but if there is cooking to be done, then DH loves to do it, and I let him. But mostly we're too knackered after getting the 2 kids to bed to bother with much in the week.

EmmalinaC · 02/12/2008 14:22

pulapula where did you get your doppler thing? And was it expensive? (hope you don't mind me asking!) I would love one but would probably become slightly obsessed with listening in...

frazzledoldbag34 · 02/12/2008 14:36

Hi
Haven't been on since Friday as was away in London for the weekend and only got back yesterday.
However, my news is that I've HAD MY AMNIO and I'm still in one piece. It was pretty painless, in fact I'd say not even really uncomfy - much better (and quicker) than last time (but that was 8yrs ago so maybe they have different techniques?)
Anyway been a bit crampy and teary straight after but feeling fine now (amnio was at 9.45 this morn). Bean was upside down and scrunched up - think it had been having a lovely sleep. Very cute, looks just like our 2 year old in profile (very bizarre) altough I still think it's a boy. DH convinced its another girl! He asked the doctor if she could see but she said no chance with the way it was lying. She checked the heart etc and said all looks fine but will get checked again at 20wk scan.
Should get quick result tomorrow sometime (for Downs, EDwards and Patau syndromes) and full results in 2 wks for all other chromosomals. Just hope it's ok. Facially it didn't look (to me) like it has DS but I'm no expert. Still wavering over whether to find out sex - think I might but not tell anyone (like I did last time). Not sure. What do you girls think?
Anyway fingers crossed for no more cramps, or any bleeding (or god forbid waters breaking). Am going to sit on my bum for as much of the day as poss and do my kids christmas shopping online.
DH picking kids up so will have relative peace until about 4.30. Aaaah, bliss!
(sorry, haven't had time to read all the posts from the weekend yet but I will). Hope Detsy and Spangle had a nice meet-up.
Chat later, hope you're all well x

frazzledoldbag34 · 02/12/2008 14:38

By the way I'm thinking Nairn for a boy and Annabel for a girl. Any opinions on those? (my other 2 are Kitty and Flora if that helps). - hope nobody in RL sees this or they'll know who I am!

frazzledoldbag34 · 02/12/2008 14:40

Me again. Has Carol7 been back on since her amnio - would love to hear how she is? Bit worried as I haven't heard. Anyone?

alapala · 02/12/2008 14:50

Glad it went well frazzle, and you are right, no news of Carol7 which is worrying. Your name suggestion of Nairn is making me crave oatcakes (is this weird word association - do they make them?)!

Momino · 02/12/2008 15:16

frazzled, like your name choices and think they go well with you other children's names.
am glad your amnio went fine and hope you're resting.

I've done my christmas shopping online and have also found a bonus gift for the girls from the local charity shop: two brand new hobby horses for £3 each. They'll love them (though dd2 may be too young at almost 16 months) and i found it's easiest to get two of each (when space permits) so there is less arguing over 'mine'.

EmmalinaC · 02/12/2008 15:51

Frazzle glad amnio went ok. Hope you don't get too stressed waiting for the results.

Like your name choices too - never heard the name Nairn before but it's lovely. (And they do indeed make oatcakes!)

Due1stMay09 · 02/12/2008 16:11

Afternoon. I am having such a lazy afternoon today! Theres washing up to be done but i just cant be bothered.
Ive been sat fascinated for the last hour as baby is wide awake and really hyper (might be the sour sweets ive just scoffed!!) he kept kicking away so i pressed my fingers down on my bump and couldnt believe it when he kicked back! I was so amazed i started crying lol, and ive just been sat here with my hand there and felt him kicking away, it has absolutely made my day! I text my fiance and he is so excited, hes told me to eat more sweets before he gets back from work so he can feel it as well!!

We were thinking of names over the weekend and really like Harry for a boy (which im sure it is!) and Grace or Freya for a girl.

LoobyLou36 - Really hope you feel better soon, i feel for you! I had sickness and diarrhea when i was 13wks and it was awful - midwife told me not to worry too much about food but just to try and keep sipping water, even if it does come back out...sorry if TMI!!! Also i dont know if u have heard of dyrolayte (sp?) midwife advised that and although it takes disgusting it really does work and is safe for baby!!

Frazzledoldbag34 - Glad AMNIO went well, take it easy and good luck with results, im sure u will be fine!

SweetBROODY · 02/12/2008 16:28

I'm quite interested in getting a doppler - any views? are they any good? a mate of mine said they will only make me worry.... not sure what to think! Maybe I should just hire one for a trial before I think about buying.

Due1stMay09 · 02/12/2008 16:39

SweetBROODY - I really want one as well! Knowing me though i would panic if i didnt hear anything!
Can anyone recommend any reasonably priced ones?
Ive seen in Argos they have a Prenatal Heart Listening System for £27.99 but dont know if that would be any good? If anyones tried one and recommends i might ask for one for xmas as they say to use from 21weeks and i will be 22weeks at christmas.
I would probably become obsessed though so i really dont know lol

Jael · 02/12/2008 17:07

I've had my pains so bad today. I've hardly been able to do anything. It's Daisy who has experienced this isn't it? I've got my consultant apt 2mro and I'm convinced she's gonna say it's not SPD and that something s going terribly wrong. All day today I've had cramping and stabbing pains in my pubic bone, does that really sound like SPD. I'm getting so worried.

Due1stMay09 · 02/12/2008 17:14

Jael - are u sure it couldnt be sciatica? Ive had that on the right side of my pubic bone and its agony. If you are worried, ring ur midwife, even if just for advice it will probably put your mind at rest speaking to a professional. Hope you feel better soon

frazzledoldbag34 · 02/12/2008 18:09

mmmm quite fancy some oatcakes now. I think there are some in the cupboard.............
Having a few cramps so have sent DH up to bath the girls while I lie on the sofa. I keep feeling panicky that something bad is going to happen although logically I know it's unlikely (about 1 in 200 they said).
This probably sounds weird but I haven't listened in with my Doppler since the amnio - scared in case I can't find it! (duh how silly am I?). Will have a listen later when kids in bed and DH goes back to work. Hope my bean is OK.
(panic panic panic)

pulapula · 02/12/2008 18:28

Evening all,

I got my doppler from ebay (new) for maybe £25 including the gel stuff which makes listening better. Its called "Angel sounds" and looks like it might be a bit rubbish, but works really well, and has 2 earphone sockets so DH/DP can listen in too. Suitable from 10 weeks I think.

I got it at around 15 weeks during my last pg and was really good for those weeks before I felt regular movements. If i hadn't felt anything in the day, I would have a listen at bedtime, and although it might take a while, I found the HB every time.

I would say after about 25 weeks, I would rely on movements to tell me everything was OK, but it would be nice to listen in now and again and check HR wasn't too slow or fast.

So now is the time to get one if you are thinking about it. I figured £10 to hire one for a week or few weeks wasn't worth it when you can buy one, and can always sell it or lend it out to get more value from it.

frazzledoldbag34 · 02/12/2008 19:42

Just had some oatcakes.
Off to get the doppler out.
Wish me luck.

EmmalinaC · 02/12/2008 19:53

frazzle I'm not surprised you're feeling a bit panicky - I was the same after CVS - I'm sure you'll be fine though. Try and have a nice restful evening.

frazzledoldbag34 · 02/12/2008 19:58

Right, bean is still ok.
Heart beat high 160's - but then it was having a mad half hour and I had to chase it around. Could hear and feel it jumping....so it's obviously fine for now.
I think when I've mentioned the fast=girl and slower=boy thing to midwives in the past they have laughed and said the heart rate depends on how active the baby is at the moment when you listen in. Obviously mine was jumping about and becuase it was being so active its heart was quite fast. Maybe if it was asleep it would be more like 145? Mind you every time I listen in it seems to be galloping about all over - not sure I'm happy about having a super-active baby!
Wish I could remember what DD1's heart rate used to be. She was always asleep - never jumping around. In fact it used to worry me. Turns out she was just a very laid back baby and is now still extremely laid back - at times she's so cool she's almost horizontal, doesn't get flustered and much calmer and more sensible than me.
Hmm
DD2 on the other hand is an entirely different matter (and can't remember her heart rate either). Duh.

frazzledoldbag34 · 02/12/2008 20:00

By the way thanks for the lovely well wishes about the amnio everyone. Also thanks for the positive feedback on my 'maybe' names.......you don't have to be kind - I was just curious what the general reaction might be.

agooboo · 02/12/2008 21:11

Hey frazzled fingers have been crossed for you, glad things still ok. It would make sense about the heartbeat being different depending on what it was doing but hey who knows?! Annabel is on my girl's name list along with Lucy although I have it spelt slightly different to you with Annabelle. Lovely, pretty girl's name imo.

As for cravings - i cannot stop thinking about and eating tinned grapefruit.

Am bursting out of my trousers - tried next online today to order some black work pants and they are completely out of stock for 2-3 weeks!! Don't know what I'll be wearing for work by then - my pyjamas at this rate!

llareggub · 02/12/2008 21:17

I have Annabel on the list too! We also have Harriet and Arabella. For a boy we are currently deciding between Edward and Hugo.

Frazzled, good look with the results.

detsy · 02/12/2008 22:00

Hallo girls!
Hope you had a good weekend in the old smoke Frazz and hope you are managing to chill out and not panic too much. Big hugs and best wishes - am sure all will be fine x

Nothing at all from Carol - hope all is ok for her.

Whoever was thinking about the Argos pre natal listener - I don't recommend it, if you are going to go down this road get a proper doppler. I got this one for last pgncy and ended up in EPU in a right tizz as heard nothing. Have hired a doppler £10 per month, return at any time from anawiz.com. They let you buy over 6 months as well if you want to.

Hmm all this doppler talk may have to go and get mine out for a little listen - what are we like honestly!

DD eye is a bit better but she now has gunk in the other one as well. She is unimpressed by her eye drops - anyone got any tips on how to get the darn drops in a baby's eyes?? Will see how they are in the morning and might trip off to GP for a check

detsy · 02/12/2008 22:02

I like Lucy but there are loads of Lucy's in my group of friends (well 2!!) Like Cameron or Finn for a boy but big no no from DP who is desperate for an Alfie...
