cece · 01/12/2008 14:43

I put on some trousers yesterday which were fine less than a week ago. Can't do them up now! So had to improvise with an elastic band to stop them falling down... I am only 16 weeks so can't believe it can all be baby bump - must be a bit of me too

BTW don't worry too much about big babies, DS was over 11 lbs and it was fine

Jael · 01/12/2008 14:48

I should be having a c-section, If I can persuade consultant lady on Wednesday. I'm dreading it. Can't go through what I went through last time though, so I'm really hoping they'll give me the section. I'm bringing DP to the appointment, for support, don't think I could go by myself cuz I'm probably going to get really emotional...

pulapula · 01/12/2008 14:51

Cece- over 11lbs OMG . A colleague at work who is quite small (size 10) had a 10lb6oz baby which was impressive too- she lost a lot of blood though as was really weak for a long time.

Momino · 01/12/2008 15:40

11 lbs!! that's amazing. Both DH and I were nearly 9lb at birth but dd1 was 5lb10 at 2 wks early (induced) and dd2 was 7lb7 -quite normal.

funny what you're all saying about bumps: mine is so deflated and flabby in the morning that I think something's gone wrong. then as the day goes by, I just get rounder.

is anyone else getting more broke as Christmas shopping season goes? I'm spending money that I don't have! Not being very careful for someone who's going to have no.3 in a few months...

Jael, hope all goes well with your appt. good idea to bring your dp along with you.

pulapula · 01/12/2008 15:59

Yes, Momino I keep spending money on xmas things (presents and food etc), and I will be another with 3 soon (although can't be much we'll need to buy for baby....famous last words)

My new cleaner is starting on weds and although i'm really glad of it, it will be an extra £30 a week, so will need to review how things go and whether its worth it. Although it will be really nice, i keep thinking what i could buy for £30 a week (e.g. 3 takeaways for me/DH - mmm i'm hungry!) We had a cleaner before who was £28 a week and we got rid of him when it just seemed like he wasn't helping (e.g. he used to wake DD up from her nap, and spend a lot of time dusting with a feather duster which just seemed to spread the dust which would then settle again)

divedaisy · 01/12/2008 16:05

Hey! Are you lot not doing the work you're employed to do!!! LOL!!! I'm my own boss, so I've decided it's MN time! Anyway, had my appointment with MW. Brought DS along too and the noise of the heart beat scared him - it was too loud!!! Well, the rate was around 150 - slap bang in the middle of the guage thingy. Maybe it'll be a boy who likes to wear dresses??? I've to see my GP to get a referral back to my cardiologist because of the runs of palpitations I've been having the last few weeks. That'll be MORE running to the hospitals...

Big Babies - when I was a student nurse I had to do a stint in a delivery ward and the first baby I saw being borne was to a small lady who had 5 kids already (just as well), cos this one got stuck, and eventually when delivered weighed either 12lb 15oz or 15lb 12oz (hope it was the first!!) The 'baby' had to goto the neonatal unit and seeing it lie beside the small prems it looked half reared! It was massive - too big!

I'm meant to be going to the PTA tonight - to discuss Bag Packing, phone recycling, Santa and other fantastically interesting things... someone wake me up when it's over. It'll be too cold to go... my excuse and sticking to it! (Shh!)

Pula, I'm so jealous of you having a cleaner! now that I work from home, I can't escape the growing layer of dust and dishes piling. It really gets me down so I feel like I'm spending so much time cleaning or poor DH is doing same with his limited time at home.

hope your new one is good in any case. would be great peace of mind.

pulapula · 01/12/2008 16:31

divedaisy- i work pt so am at home today so I'm not skiving , although maybe not as interactive with the kids as I should be lol. Cbeebies is on, and there are toys all over the floor. DS is full of cold and grumpy, so I need a bit of light relief and mummy time lol. I will be in the office Tues-Thurs so will be checking in only around lunchtime (or if i get bored!).

daizydoo · 01/12/2008 17:15

ds was 10lb when he was born and he ended up in special care. The nurses worked out he was heavier than the 4 other babies in his room put together!! Everyone keeps telling me that the 2nd one is usually bigger - I am quietly bricking myself at the moment. I'll probably get worse as I get nearer, as the birth was very difficult.

I work part time and live in a hovel, so I can sympathise with the messy houses. I never seem to get on top of it and it frustrates the life out of me! Anyhow I need to go and do the dishes before dh gets home!

LoobyLou36 · 01/12/2008 18:17

Can I be cheeky and ask how much weight everyone has put on so far? MIL came round on Friday night and thought the 6lb i'd put on was too little (thanks for the reassurance, something else to worry about).

Last n ight I came down with a really bad dose of sickness. Started vomiting at about 8.30 it went on all night on and off TMI sorry. Had to stay in the spare room as it has an en suite and didn't want to be too far from the toilet. didn't manage to get any sleep and still vomiting this morning so had to ring in sick at work. I swear they think I'm making it up.

I rang the midwife as I was a bit worried and she told me that there was a really nasty bug going round and a few of her ladies had caught it. She also asked if I had diarreha (sorry can't spell) so guess what happened next? Very sorry for TMI. I've lost 2.5lbs in the last 24 hours and can still only sip water. DH says I look like shite - thanks for that! and has ordered me to take 2moro off.

I should be lucky DH is so supportive I guess just feel guilty for not going in to work.

SpangleMaker · 01/12/2008 18:20

Oooh you're scaring me with all this talk of huge babies!

I think my cat is trying to get me in training for having a baby. She's recently become really mardy, begging for milk 6 or 7 times a day and constantly wanting to be picked up... at least she'll drink the milk herself & doesn't wear nappies - tho the other day she wee'd in a (fortunately empty) Amazon box

I daren't think what kind of domestic slattern I'll turn into when I've a dc to look after. Been rubbish as it is since getting pg, and DH's standards are fairly low - although he has some seriously slovenly friends, so he doesn't see it - he thinks he's mega tidy!

llareggub · 01/12/2008 18:20

I've been told that the reason DS was so big (nearly 9lb) but at 37 weeks was because I very probably developed gestational diabetes late on in pregnancy.

I had another chat with the specialist diabetes midwife today and despite sticking RIGIDLY to the diabetic diet my blood sugar is all over the place so I am going on insulin on Wednesday. I'm feeling pretty low about it and nearly came home early from work today.

However it has made me think carefully about when to finish work and start maternity leave and I'm going to leave on 22nd Feb...around 12 weeks away! I was pretty shocked at how close that feels.

SpangleMaker · 01/12/2008 18:25

Looby sorry to hear you've caught the tummy bug that seems to be going round the thread. I know how you feel about work, but please don't feel guilty at all for having a couple of days off - your/baby's health is far more important.

Haven't weighed myself for a while - I'll check tomorrow but I reckon I've probably put on 6-8lb.

SpangleMaker · 01/12/2008 18:28

llareggub Good idea to finish early. Is that around 30wks? Does seem very close.

llareggub · 01/12/2008 18:37

I'm going to finish at 29 weeks so around then! I can't wait...

MsG · 01/12/2008 18:55

LoubyLou, sorry you feel so rubbish! Hope you are soon back to normal. I wasn't sick with my stomach thing but it has passed now I think, although I do feel a bit delicate still.

Don't worry about your weight - talk to your midwife if you are concerned. Everyone is different. I have put quite a lot on but I was overweight anyway and eating absolutely loads for a while as I felt so sick and hungry, and just ate whatever I felt like - also I didn't really exercise for 11 weeks and I work from home so no wonder. xx

EmmalinaC · 01/12/2008 20:00

Hello all! Always takes me so long to catch up with your news.

Nikki sorry to hear you've been so down, hope you feel more upbeat soon. It's probably just hormones but you should tell your midwife how you're feeling.

I'm ok apart from a rotten cold that's now into it's 4th week and is making me pretty miserable. Not sure if it's one big cold or lots of little ones DD has brought home from nursery or if it's just some horrible snotty pregnancy condiition!

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 01/12/2008 20:10

evening all.
hope you poorly ones feeling better soon.
just got DDs to bed and DH is kindly walking collie. i'm just about to do a couple of hours of work.

i'm finding myself so irritable and impatient to the girls especially dd1 as she is eternally whingy and cries instead of talks. i've been working on her using words instead of crying to communicate for months but she just whinges constantly and i'm about to lose it.

i really hope this excessive irritability goes with the hormones.

anyway, back to something interesting like cravings. still doing cheese on toast and tomato soup. and thick american pizza like dominoes.

am hungry now, off to get some S&V crisps. just what i need.

If you see me on here again before 10, please kick me off and tell me to get some work done!

EmmalinaC · 01/12/2008 20:50

Dandy you're so right about not feeling properly pregnant.

Also, I always find this a really miserable time of year - next year seems so far away and winter seems so long. It's hard to feel excited about something that seems so far off.

Momino we've just eaten a massive American pizza. Mmmmmmmmm! Where oh where are the healthy cravings?!

FiKelly · 01/12/2008 21:02

Jael my DH is coming to our consultant app too for a bit of moral support and our DS too... I 've started putting a bag of new toys/stickers etc together so DH might get to actually talk to the consultant too & maybe even see the 20wk scan that's being done at the same time! he missed the nuchal scan as DS wasn't remotely interested and wanted to pull the consultants room apart instead...

llareggub sorry you're having to do the insulin.

looby sorry you're poorly too

nikkie glad today you're feeling brighter my cravings are still baked potatoes, milk, apples etc.

spangle DS was a whipped out a week early via emergency CS because of my late onset pre-eclampsia. He was 7lbs exactly so not huge... They say that babies usually grow to the size your body/frame is capable of birthing. I'm a size 12/14 and 5'6" so full term he would probably have been around 8lbs which still isn't that bad.

divedaisy I had my midwife app too this morning. LO heart rate was 135-145... so looks like another boy for us if it's not all bunkham. My neighbour says anything 150 or higher is a girl! DS was with me too and his face was a picture when he heard the baby's heartbeats. His mouth went into a completly circular 'wow' and when I said can you hear the baby he said 'yeah' with big smiles. For the rest of the day he's been very excited and telling everyone about 'baby mummies tummy' with pointing. It's the first time he's actually understood the concept of mummy is having a baby. Well better than he has before... as he's also been pointing at his & DH & my friend Annalie's tummies saying 'baby tummy?' So we're getting there

llareggub · 01/12/2008 21:30

Monimo wow, I've been so grumpy and irritable at work today I almost walked out for fear of offending someone.

One of my colleagues (female) mad an irritating comment about part-time employees (like me) doing it for "pin money" and that if we were to be made redundant if wouldn't have such an impact on household income. Boy, did I see red!
