Flumpy congratulations!!!!! What a beautiful name .

Daisy how exciting - everything xd!

Effie and Verso I am also expecting the first few months to be grim. Am hoping it will be slightly easier than having two at once though!

We had loads of snow yesterday, enough to make everything look like a Christmas card and to build a snowman. DDs very excited. All gone now though!

Good luck for tomorrow 25TH November ladies! Lady t just meant to say - I was booked for my section at 8am and didn't get seen until lunchtime 'cos of some emergency sections which took priority - so do be prepared for a possible wait!

kmp1 · 24/11/2008 10:14

wow - day or so passes and i'm way behind -
Congrats Flumpy !! She's lovely. Good luck for tomorrow ladyT & verso !
Yeah it was me LT about the rib pain - but that seems to have subsided for now - prob cause the baby has dropped down. I still have the trouble with shortness of breath etc, but i't all been put in the background now as I might have broken my toe DH doesn't think it's broken but the dog knocked a really heave chopping board on it and now i can't walk waddle ! I am suppose to be at the hospital today for a M/W appointment but not sure driving is a good idea since I can't put shoes on - will try and re-book it I think.
Guess that leaves internet shopping for the last minute things etc!
At least I had a better nights sleep as toe was throbbing, but I was so thoroughly exhausted that the breathing thing and heartburn didn't compare and I had a glass of wine and fell asleep
LT it was also me on about the tracksuit pants - will get a pair online from M&S I think as my maternity jeans now are even uncomfortable when undone!! !!
Anyway, Daisy very exciting!! let us know!
Beans big lol at your story about "breaking" the baby! I always think the same thing - especially yesterday when I had jeans on (maternity ones getting tight) and they were cutting into me as I was driving and kind of squishing him up! he was going mental moving and kicking and all I could think about was him being born with a zipper imprint in his head!! I undid my jeans and it barely helped -- will buy new tracky pants now!!!!

kayzisexpecting · 24/11/2008 10:37

Effie Sorky is from my ttc thread. She is very funny, I don't think I'll be having vigorous sex for quite a while yet. Running what is running????

Just been to town, I was asked 4 times if I've had the baby yet. Yes, I've left him home alone and the bump is just pies!!!!!!!!

I think I have spd as my pelvis felt like it was going to fall off on the way back from town. The 5 minute waddle walk from town was a 20 minute struggle.

Morning everyone! Day one of proper mat leave today

Flumpy congrats, what a gorgeous girl and a gorgeous name

And good luck LT and verso and daisy for tomorrow, fingers crossed for you all!

kmp yikes to a possible broken toe! Hope it's just bruised [hug]

oli wow, good work your DH on cooking a whole lunch! Tiume to get him well trained for when the baby arrives!

hiccy about the pool, my MW said not to get too hung up on the exact temperature, as long as it feels comfortable to you it'#s probably fine. The only time it matters is if you're planning on giving birth in the water when it needs to be quite warm but otherwise she said not to stress too much about getting it bang on. I'm really hoping that Footy decides to come on a day when it's a bit warmer than today though [shiver] as I really don't fancy getting out of a nice warm pool into a freezing house!

We had a busy old weekend - a singing workshop on Sat doing possibly the most difficult thing I've ever sung, but we made a decent fist of it in the end and then had a good long chat with the other two ladies about babies and birth - one of them had a home birth in the room we were sat in and she was very positive. We've now got loads of her left-over bubble wrap as apparently it's great for if you want to be hands and knees on the floor. And yesterday the great day of building - baby now has a changing table and a cot bed both of which were about 1000 times easier to build than an ikea bookshelf which I found really odd - but not complaining! Last time DH and I tried to build furniture together it nearly ended in divorce. Hand hint, if you've got a small house, never try and build a wardrobe in a different room to the one it's eventually got to be used in

One quesiton - why are random people so obsessed about due dates? A guy at church yesterday said "So when's it due?" and I said "Any time in the next month" "Oh that's a bit silly isn't it, what's the actual date?" and when I said "Well it can be any time from 37 to 42 weeks, we're trying not to get hung up on a specific day as so few babies come bang 'on time'" he got all cross. As if it was more important that he knew when the baby was 'expected' than when it actually arrives!

traceface · 24/11/2008 10:52

hello all!
Daisy - very excited about your 'show' - it made me realise that I've forgotten everything they told me in antenatal (only 1 week ago!) about what to do in what circumstances, when to ring labour ward etc...I'll be plaguing them with calls! Keep us posted
Good luck for tomorrow for all those concerned...I'm jealous!
Does anyone else have kind of numb legs? Mine feel quite stiff and tight today. strange.
Have not got much planned today and dd is at pre-school so am going to enjoy a book and the freedom to close my eyes when I want to!

EffiePerine · 24/11/2008 10:53

trace: check your notes, it should say in there about when to call. I think at my hospital you wait until the cx are about 5 mins apart or you feel you can't cope any more. Or if there's an emergency like bleeding etc.

SummerLightning · 24/11/2008 10:58

Hi everyone, been lurking but not posting for a few days.
Got this stupid coldy/fluey thing still so off work today. Feel totally awful, this is the fifth day of it so I am getting quite fed up now! I am hoping I am up to work tomorrow, only have 5 more days to work so feel a bit of a skiver! Also sneezing constantly is really annoying as I keep nearly weeing!

Congrats flumpy she is super cute!!

And verso, ladyt and daisy I will be thinking of you tomorrow, cannot wait to hear the updates, and see piccies! daisy I hope you can hang on until tomorrow!

hiccy yes we are getting a pool. I am not totally sure which one we are getting but we have ordered a thermometer too. DH is in charge of it, a pool is a bit like a gadget so I let him take charge . It hasn't arrived yet though.

In other un-pregnancy related news I am excited cos DH got me an iphone for my birthday. Have had lots of fun geeking around on it!!!

kayzisexpecting · 24/11/2008 10:59

My MW said if your waters break you have about an hour to get to hospital. My waters broke when I was about 8cm and was in hospital. I have no idea what happens when your waters break. I am dreading it happening 'TV style' and they will be a bit like Niagra falls.

SummerLightning · 24/11/2008 11:01

jj you should just say "yesterday" when they ask when it's due, that'll teach em!

Veggiemummy · 24/11/2008 11:02

goodmorning feeling a little like a large wobbling Zombie today but hey whats new. Dh is home so can just go with the Zombie feeling. We are gong to try to get the house into some sort of expecting a child to be born here order. Will actually build the cot and sort stuff out.

Still gotta wait for the birth pool to get here but excited about trying it out. I also want to get a nice warm dressing gown for when i get out of it. I had a nice one last time but it has been thrown away since. Have just read some brilliant global home birth research outcomes and stats on home births compared to hospital birth so am feeling quite positive.

right i need to go do....something

traceface · 24/11/2008 11:02

Aw! Just got a text from my friend - she's had a baby boy yesterday - on his due date!!!

daisydora · 24/11/2008 11:07

Have had a nice hot shower, and 'shaved' legs, pits & bits in case I go early Feel lots better now, so I think I should hang on till tomorrow. DH has just rung from work to advise me I might need to have a tidy 'down there' cheeky bugger!!!!!!

Thankkfully as my mum is one of my community MW's I've just rung her and she said unless I feel like I'm having contractions or back pain to just wait and see....if I get worried she'll get someone to come out and see me. Its very handy having a mum on hand like that.

Am excited for all you ladies with the birth pools...that was my plan with DD but she was em CS so never even got my toes wet!!!!!

Veggiemummy · 24/11/2008 11:11

SL- happy birthday when was it, over the weekend? Iphone great we are thinking of getting the itouch. then we can control all our music in the house through it via the main computer and would be good for when in labour so DH can ust pick and choose from it rather than going back to the laptop each time i change my mind about what i am listening to.

JJ-lol at you making popping noises with the bubble wrap while in labour. Oh and if the guys asks again about due dates tell him sometime before next summer.

jumpjockey · 24/11/2008 11:14

kayz on the waters breaking bit, I was told that if they go but you don't have any other signs of imminent birth, then take your temperature and it's fine to wait a little bit if you can't get straight in, in as long as your temperature stays steady - the only risk if if there's infection which means your temperature will go up and you know then that you've got to get in.

trace yay for your friend! One of the 5%... Apparently seeing and holding a newborn is a good natural way to start labour (something to do with hormones or is it pheromones?), so you could either visit or keep well clear depending on your plans

Does anyone else find it really odd how the signs of labour can be soo variable? As in your waters can go right at the start, halfway through, or not at all and the baby be born in the bag. And you can get really strong contractions really soon, or not be aware of them until the baby's about to come out. You'd think that something as fundamental as birth, the body would have a pretty set order for how it all goes! Or is that my control freakery coming to the fore again

Veggiemummy · 24/11/2008 11:19

and JJ apparently it varies from pregnancy to pregnancy in the same women, not just from women to women. I guess a lot can also hinge on outside factors too, and each baby is different.

SummerLightning · 24/11/2008 11:21

veggie , birthday not til next thurs (hope I don't give birth on my birthday!). Had to go into town to sign up for iphone and transfer number from vodafone, so told DH that I was NOT going into town after this weekend at the weekend as it is too busy. I think he wanted to get it sorted out anyway. I am forbidden from downloading games on it until my birthday though (have neglected to tell DH that I don't really like games anyway )
Iphones are great!

EffiePerine · 24/11/2008 11:29

SL: DH has a iphone and lurves it - he can use it to access his desktop remotely (something about networking everything - we have Macs so it works pretty well). He keeps telling me what new stuff he can do with it but I don't understand what he's talking about!

Kayz: my waters went at some point during labour in the hospital as well, no idea when. Am also conerned about the gushing thing! Might look into getting a waterproof cover for the mattress.

TMI!!! Don't read if eating!!!!!!!

Just went to the toilet and I had what looked like gloopy wallpaper paste. Could that be a show or mucus plug coming away? There was no blood at all. I can't remember having a show or anything with DS so can't compare.

Thanks

OP posts:
daisydora · 24/11/2008 11:41

Sounds like it kayz. Mine this am had a bit of blood in it, have had a bit more since but with no blood!

BTW, when my waters went they gushed - the volume shocked the hell out of me...thankfully I was at home. Thats why I'm not leaving the house today

EffiePerine · 24/11/2008 11:42

Sounds like a show Kayz . Might not be a sign of imminence, but you're about 37 weeks I think so you might be getting there early

kayzisexpecting · 24/11/2008 11:45

Thanks.

I'm 37+3 today so not far off.

But I don't want to go into labour today. I am exhausted and don't have the energy for giving birth.

Hi everyone, am still around, have done something to my laptop which is blocking access to MN so have had to nick dh's to pop on!

Have there been any more announcements?

Bisou · 24/11/2008 12:18

hi Rosmerta, we're still at 3 so far, although daisy & kayz have both had shows, so watch this space...

I had some terribly sad news this afternoon - my boss (head of Opera Australia) who is a very well known and respected British conductor has just passed away after having a heart attack. It was such a shock to hear and I've had a bit of a cry this evening about it, and am still feeling very sad. He was such a lovely man, and it was only a month or so ago that I was having a meeting in his office having such a nice time chatting to him. He was so positive and supportive of this pregnancy too. I'm really going to miss him. Sorry to be so ; its just good to put it down in writing, IYKWIM.
