Traceface . I didn't word that well did I?

Can I just clarify that I do not intend to apply sherry to my nether regions. 'Twould be a waste of a fine manzanilla .

zoejeanne · 28/11/2008 20:18

Katie what a scary afternoon you had yesterday, I hope you got lots of rest last night and today and now you and babyKatie are feeling lots better

Chutney I?ve also abandoned my engagement ring this morning, although my wedding ring is slightly bigger so I?ve still got that on (for now). My fingers have only started to swell in the last couple of days, and I wonder if it?s something to do with finishing work and so not exercising them by typing all day long?

Kayz men giving lap dances I think I?d just laugh, so we can?t go before babes arrive or I might wet myself!! But agree with Trace that it sounds more fun than B&Q

On married/not married, my SIL is married but kept her own name and when she tried to open a bank account for my nephew the cashier wouldn?t let her as her name was different to his, but if she would sign in her husbands name then it would be fine. As my SIL pointed out no one with that name and signature exists (actually there probably is as it?s a common name, but you get my point!) ? silly cashier lady. And most of my circle of close friends are married ? but we do all come from a very traditional farming area with families going back for generations, so probably not surprising.

Bisou just laughed loads at your DH?s poncho idea, but my DH just responded with ?that?s not such a daft idea? - must be a man thing!! Would love to see lots of happy new family photos on MN, all with the new Dad?s proudly modelling ponchos!

Jam/Effie I just did a few clenches when reading your posts about pelvic floor exercises ? the first I?ve done today

Abbey how did your appt go this afternoon? Hope all is well ? and better to be embarrassed that it?s not your waters than ignoring them and ending up with a problem

PD thanks for sending on the pictures, shes a lovely little thing, so delicate and doll like. And chutney, what a sweet message from ladyt. Verso great to hear that you?re home, hope your new baby is settling in well!

Turnip I know exactly what you mean about wanting to meet baby, but wanting to keep it safely inside. What if I?m a bad parent? It?ll be much better in than out if I am.

I saw the midwife today and I?m now measuring 2 cms less than my last appt ? the mw reassured it is because babyZJ?s head is now my pelvis, but did say they?d be measuring very carefully in a fortnight to check baby hasn?t stopped growing. It?s the first time I?ve been given anything other than positive news (I know I?ve been so fortunate there) so I did get quite worried and wanted to cry on my way home, but otherwise it?s moving lots, heartbeat is fine, my BP is fine so surely it is all just fine. On the plus side, she was much more helpful than my last MW about my manual/physiological placenta delivery (lots of you were really helpful with your advice) and was encouraging about putting trying for an unmanaged delivery if I feel up to it. It did forget to ask about strep B tests (yesterday?s discussion reminded me), and I?m pretty sure I haven?t been tested. My next appt is 38 + 2, should I ring beforehand or wait until then to ask about it?

Have a good evening all xx

Kayz - with dd1 we never used a dummy until she got bronchiolitis at a few months old and was in hospital for a week. She was nil by mouth for quite a few days so we tried a dummy and it really settled her, then she kept it! When she was nearly 1yr we decided to get rid so just went cold turkey and didn't give it to her one night - she cried a bit then fell asleep and we never looked back! I'm not planning using one this time as a first line thing but am not averse to it if this is a 'sucky' baby. What's behind the new SIDS theory?

Veggiemummy · 28/11/2008 20:23

oh lady T is so lovely, glad she is out of the Morphine haze now. I wish i could meet her and all you guys. It is so weird that if this sudden move away from London that we did earlier this year hadn't happened i would have met many of you by now and be looking forward to lots of coffee mornings with you all.

I just saw some people having pizza on the tele and really fancy pizza so my sweet DH has gone out to get some pizza for me bless him. and he's been working hard all day & fed bathed and put DS to bed. while i have been sitting here with my feet up whinging about my cankles.

kayzisexpecting · 28/11/2008 20:25

Here. I'm not sure what it does or how it helps though.

am off to bed now - failing to keep my eyes open after only 2 hrs sleep last night...will no doubt have a lot to catch up on by the time I log on again tomorrow!!! Night all xxx

Veggiemummy · 28/11/2008 20:33

Kayz i'm haven't looked at your link but i think that study was sponsored by Tommi Tippee (who make dummies) so wouldn't give one just based on research. I think another theory that came up from it was that frequent feeding overnight is good too.

However, from a personal perspective my mum wouldn't let us have dummies and i found my thumb and ended up sucking it for years and years, and had to have loads of dental work. At least a dummy you can throw away, so if your bubby wants it give it.

Veggiemummy · 28/11/2008 20:36

sorry cat. I am with you on the black heads and picking things. I am not into scabs but i used to pick ear wax out of DS's ears and i love cleaning DH's ears with a cotton buds he gets loads of wax. Sorry is that all gross.

kayzisexpecting · 28/11/2008 20:37

It was sponsered by MAMuk(who make dummies) which is what made us think as there is no actual medical reason given for it.

I want a pizza now!!!

Veggiemummy · 28/11/2008 20:40

mmmmm....not long now. I'm a little bit sad though i'm also putting some curly Kale & courgettes onto steam as i really feel like them. Think i need some vits or something.

poisondwarf · 28/11/2008 20:52

Verso welcome back - and what a pain in the bum to have a power cut just when you couldn't have wanted your home comforts more. Hope you and Frieda are doing well. How's DD1 been with it all?

reban - what an awful story. I'm a little bit worried about it now as well, which is not like me as I know it's such a tiny risk, and I didn't even know about it last time. Having said that, I should have phoned to get my results today & completely forgot.

Veggie my nipples are freakily dark this time too - they didn't change colour at all last time. And I didn't have the smell last time either I don't think - guess I've waved bye bye to my pelvic floor then. Oh and what happened to my linea nigra? I got a right good one last pregnancy and this time it's there but barely visible.

kayz DS has had a dummy from 1 month old (now 20 months) - I'm sure we could wean him off it but it does really soothe him when he's upset or tired. Should really have done that before the new baby as I'm sure there'll be a few dummy wars if this one ends up having one. I think the SIDS Foundation website did have something on it recommending dummies when I looked the other day - I imagine that it simply keeps the baby's face far enough from the mattress/cover/whatever to keep the airways clear & avoid asphyxiation. Just a guess though.

Cat, oh I think I'm starting to get the measure of you now ... racking my brains to come up with more gruesome details for you but can't think of anything that's going to be sufficiently revolting for the likes of you.

Speaking of revolting, I haven't had a look downstairs but I imagine it to be dinghy-like and perhaps deep purple in hue. No intention of finding out though.

LadyT texted earlier and was at pains to point out that the lovely photo of her was taken at 32 weeks. She has also promised to regale us with a picture of her in theatre just after the birth with - gasp! - no makeup on.

Mmm, did someone say sherry? Love the stuff. Good job we haven't got any in but I might join you in a cheeky glass of red Cat.

mmmm sherry would be lovely, i bet that would help my indigestion. A friend mentioned having some Gluwein earlier today and now i really fancy some.

kmp1 · 28/11/2008 21:51

kmp1 · 28/11/2008 21:53

Morning ladies! I'm on the early shift today! I am so impressed at Verso getting online and at LadyT keeping up with all the emails whilst in hospital!! Glad you are all doing well.
I must be symbiotically linked to you all as last night, although I didn't log on, at around 8pm I suddenly fancied a pizza and retrieved one of DH monster frozen pepperoni ones out of the freezer!
I think someone mentioned starting a post natal thread for all of those of you who have had babies already. Can I request that you don't? Few reasons...I don't want to end up sitting in this darkened room on my own waiting and pacing for the baby to come! I also don't want to miss out on any news! Finally, we might all glean or offer some help and advice from or to those who have popped already! I might be outnumbered in this request but thought we could just switch over when all on the other side!

Think that rotten cold is finally gone, just left with a bit of a tickly cough but not too bad.
Almost totally ready for bubba now. Went and picked up the new mattresses.
Oh, on the dummy (or doody as they have been renamed in our house) debate, I was totally anti. Someone gave us some before DS1 was born and I put them up in the loft. When DS was about 2-3 days old I was feeding him and he was going ballistic, pulling away, screaming, back on, pulling off etc. We finally worked out that he wanted to suck but was getting FURIOUS when the milk started to come out. DH was duly sent up into the loft (at 2am, in just boxers, in January!!!!) to find these two tiny little dummies!!! DS loved them and I am afraid hasn't looked back. He still has them to go to bed but we ban them in the day except for times of extreme poorliness or trauma! I did find them a godsend, especially to cure that 'screaming in the car' stress!

abbymeg · 29/11/2008 08:06

Thanks again to everyone who encouraged me to call yesterday - got myself into a panic as baby had all but stopped moving. Though, typically, as soon as we were through hospital doors it was like someone had flicked a switch and he was dancing again!

Well, it wasn't waters. They never specified what it was, but I think we can all hazard a guess. TMI alert: I do have thrush though - LOVELY - which was odd because I have had no symptoms. I'm also having tonnes of BHs, but I don't think they take much notice of them. After a speculum examination and being laid on my back for an hour they were coming about every three minutes, so I'm feeling pretty achy today.

Was embarrassing though, due to massive bump my leg shaving has pretty much stopped. I looked like a fawn from Narnia on that bed!

One question, they did a swab for "different things" and said they would ring if there were any problems. Does anyone know what they would routinely swab for? I'm curious because I haven't been tested for group Strep B as I decided not to because of ECS. (I read about it and the general conclusion was that with ECS your waters don't break, so there's actually more risk from the antibiotics than Strep B infection. However, with yesterday's panic, I'm now worried that my waters might go before I get to ECS.)

If anyone has any idea, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks again .

abbymeg · 29/11/2008 08:09

I hope ECS stands for elective and not emergency. I'm a bit rubbish with these acronyms!

poisondwarf · 29/11/2008 08:25

Morning! Have just sent out the latest photo of LadyT & Octavia - LadyT managing to look glam even in the operating theatre. chutney yours bounced back - looks like your inbox is full.

I'm with Oli on the single thread by the way - we'd all only end up checking both threads & you'd all get fed up of me boring you to tears with "As I've just said on the other thread...". Think it's more fun to all stick together really - it will just become a post-natal thread all on its own eventually anyway.

chutneymary · 29/11/2008 08:26

Abby, I was GBS positive in my last pregnancy. However, as that was a planned section the obstetrician said that I didn't need IV ABs as the baby wasn't coming near the infection. He said as GBS lived in the vagina and the baby wasn't coming out that way, breaking the waters once in theatre would not increase the risk. I don't know what the situation would be if the waters went first, but as you would still have your CS, perhaps you still wouldn't need them? It is a tricky one, I agree - perhaps you can ring and ask for advice. I was in a slightly different situation as I knew I was GBS positive though. Sympathies on the thrush. I had the fanny of fire for, oh, 8months last time. Only had it intermittently this time but jolly sore now. Sadly you can't really scratch either but you can put canestan on it topically, which takes some of the burn off and is easier to use than yoghurt.

Oli, as one of the next to go over the top (less than 48 hours! Oh my god!), I am very happy to stay here. I wonder if my baby will be born on this thread or the next? It's quite strange knowing the actual date.

Hope you all had a good night. Off to ballet in a minute (not me, of course, that really would be a sight) then into town for a bit of last minute shopping and lunch action. Back later. Rest well everyone.

Hope all is going well for Lal and all the others whose babies are now here.

chutneymary · 29/11/2008 08:34

THanks Poison, have just deleted a load to make room - please could you resend when you have a minute.

poisondwarf · 29/11/2008 08:40

Hi abby good news - glad it wasn't your waters. Probably just discharge.

I've just looked at my notes from last time (as I said, the same thing happened to me at 39 weeks) and annoyingly, the page cuts off after the words Trippelswabs taken. After I went to such trouble to nick my notes I managed to photocopy that particular page the wrong way round. I'm such a bloody idiot. So I'm afraid I can't help you there. Did they not give any clue on your notes? You could always ring up in a few days and say you were told to phone & check the results.

poisondwarf · 29/11/2008 08:44

Have just resent chutney. Have also sent it to you trace - was there someone else who wanted in on the email list (arti & Cat are on it already)?
