PD I'd like to be on the email list. bignlilreid at hotmail dot com

Hope everyone is doing okay. I've been lurking around. Just haven't found the time or energy to reply. This thread is moving sooo quick. We are going to need a new one in a few days.

waitinggirl · 29/11/2008 09:51

half way through parents in law visit - they have been both mental and really fabulous - have bought us half of john lewis and babies r us and helped to set up most of our flat pack furniture, so cannot and don't want to be rude about them. but here are two priceless MIL comments so far:

while setting up new mattress in the crib: "i knew a woman who had a cot death... she lost three babies - one was an early miscarriage, two were stillborn at term, then she went on to have 3 babies, one of which died of cotdeath"... meaningful pause while i try and gather myself... (with a strange laugh and shrug of the shoulders as though saying "life, isn't it strange?") "and then she died of cancer". i have barely stopped laughing about this one.

and, secondly, leaning across to dh over lunch: "are you going to be clean shaven for the birth?"

ah, joy! just wanted to share.

lovely new photo of LadyT and Octavia on email

Turniphead1 · 29/11/2008 10:07

WG that is classic (although of course appalling). Is your MiL Irish (that doom and gloom story sounds like something mine would come out with). There is a great Tommy Teirnan gag about Irish women over 50 going abroad and there being a special death hotline they can call to get their fix of miserable news whilst away in the sun....

Love the thought of discussing pubic hair at the dinner table! Nice.

Abbey glad you got sorted. I would have thought that swab would have included for Group B strep. I got one taken when I had a hindwater leak with DS - and despite the fact he wasn't born til 2 and a half days later - the results didn't arrive til after he did. Complete waste of time.

I did the Group B test myself at home yesterday (it was so nice sticking swabs up front and back - popping them in containers - and then back in the prepaid envelope .) I should have the results by Mon/Tuesday by text message. technology, eh.

Going to yoga shortly even though I feel too huge and cumbersome.

That all makes sense Chutney about group B and a planned section. Are you getting really excited now???

kayzisexpecting · 29/11/2008 10:08

Morning,

WG They really are priceless comments. I think I might get a book and stat writing some MIL comments down so that when I am a MIL, I already have a book of stupid things I can say to my DIL's.

I am feeling really tired this morning, depsite sleeping all night. I think I might have a nap as we're meant to be going to my mum's this afternoon.

Doesn't LadyT look wonderful in that picture. Octavia has such beautiful dark eyes.

Hope everyone is ok this morning.

Turniphead1 · 29/11/2008 10:09

Oooops WG I have just reread your post - your MiL was asking your HUSBAND would he be cleanshaven? Whilst still an odd question - not half as dreadful as I had imagined /!! . I thought she was referring to the old practice of the lady being shaved, even for vaginal births.

emmanbump · 29/11/2008 10:21

Ha ha ha cracking up at Turnip misreading WG's MIL comment.

Kayz I feel the same had a really good night and still feel tired

at how fab ladyT looks in her pic.

Right I better get on with some jobs. Meeting a friend in town this pm so am going to have a bit of tidy up before I go.

Beans33 · 29/11/2008 10:34

Morning all - I'm on! DH has gone for a run, so got a bit of time to myself, although have promised home made leek and potato soup for lunch, so must nip to Sainsburys shortly. Why?

Just want to wish Chutney luck for Monday - and hope the sherry "downstairs" was delicious!!!!

Also, I had my show last night. I think! God, I'm 90% sure that was what it was: a big lump of sort of see through jelly when I wiped my fanny. BUT there was no bloody in it at all, which made me wonder. I haven't had anything else like it and nothing more since, so I think that's what it was - does anyone know if you can have it without blood in?

Anyway, of course I spent the night convinced I was about to go into labour, but no such luck, despite killer achey back and the odd cramp in the period area. Ho hum. DH is fretting that he's got to do his Xmas shopping this afternoon and what if I go into labour - eek!

I, too, am a picker - love picking everything - nose, ears, spots, blackheads and erm skintags. EEEEEK!

abbymeg · 29/11/2008 10:35

Thanks for all of your help again!

Chutney I don't know whether I could test privately now, I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and booked in in a fortnight. That's why I was hoping that they might have tested me yesterday and then it's done. I think I remember reading that if your waters go then you risk the possibility of infection, but, given that DD was way overdue, I didn't think waters going early would be an issue (and probably won't be, curse my over-active worrying). I'm finding pregnancy is becoming more and more of a minefield, especially for people like me who worry about every little thing going wrong. Bizarrely, I had no thrush symptoms at all - TMI alert: registrar looked a bit grossed out . It was either that or my hairy legs that did it .

Poison There's nothing in my notes, after much translation of registrar handwriting. It never fails to amaze me - I've spent the last two weeks marking 450 GCSE papers, with all kinds of weird and wonderful writing to contend with, but I've never seen the like of doctors' handwriting! I was surprised they didn't tell me; he just said they would ring if there was a problem. I will ask MW to chase for me when I see her next.

Turnip I'm sure I'd read that they tested routinely if there was a threat of leakage. at the fact they didn't get your results through until after the birth!

abbymeg · 29/11/2008 10:37

Beans sounds like a show! How exciting!

Beans33 · 29/11/2008 10:44

Crikey! But that does still mean it could be 2 weeks away, doesn't it????! HELP!

abbymeg · 29/11/2008 11:04

Unfortunately, or maybe not if you have shopping to do , yes, it can still be a while. Mine was more than a week with DD. It does mean that things are moving in the right direction though.

Beans33 · 29/11/2008 11:09

Hurray! Thanks Abby - how exciting. And terrifying and everything else!!

xxxx

Bisou · 29/11/2008 11:13

oooh that's exciting Beans, I'm
I want my goopy jelly too! OK - well, perhaps not till after I've sewn the cot sheets next week.

I've just put up a new picture on my profile

abbymeg · 29/11/2008 11:19

Bisou Love the picture . Now we need the Christmas smileys to really get in the mood.

Bisou · 29/11/2008 11:31

Thanks abbymeg. Glad all is well with your bubby, I was worried it might have been a touch too early. And of course you've got your CS booked already too. LMAO at "fawn from Narnia" comment - I'm with you there sista!

veggie why did you have to go and ruin a good pizza by havin it with vegetables? That's so funny. I love veggies too actually, wish we could get kale here.

I'm in agreement also about us keeping on the same thread suggestion until a couple of weeks after Dec (or we are pretty sure there are no more births to come)... as I'm too lazy to check more than 1 thread

Turniphead1 · 29/11/2008 13:11

Bisou love your bow/bump picture! Fabulous. You are so creative! I bought a sewing machine about 4 years ago and still not have used it. You have to come and give me a lesson!

Beans that defo sounds like a show!! How excits you know, could be a week or two - but could also mean things ARE starting. Can't wait to hear.

zoejeanne · 29/11/2008 13:51

Hello everyone, DH and I slept in til 11am this morning, and have only just finished our brekkie now! I feel very naughty (and a bit mean to those parents who are reading this) ? but have just thought that maybe I should write it in my diary as it could be our last lie in for a decade or more!!

Oli I agree with you on the post natal thread, I don?t want to be on here talking to myself by the end of December!

Beans how exciting to have a show, hope you?re feeling ok at the moment?

Bisou that photo is fab, DH has just gone out, but I want one of me just like that as soon as he comes back!!

Have a good afternoon everyone, off for a (slow) walk with the old dog, who waddles just as slowly as me (someone else can take the crazy mad pup!)

EffiePerine · 29/11/2008 13:56

Oooh, def a show Beans . I'm with Oli on keepin gthe one thread btw (as poss the last on the list) - I don't want to be stuck here by myself! Though DH was looking at my bump last night and shaking his head over the idea of going another 5 weeks.

Have got more or less the last few baby/hospital bag/overnight bag for DS bits and pieces. Including a lovely scarlet fleecy suit for getting the baby home from hospital .

Abby: glad it was a false alarm, I think they would test for GBS as it can be a factor in premature labour/waters going early. But it wouldn't affect you if you're having a planned CS.

Thanks for the extra photo PD, will get the rest of you ladies onto the email list . Praps we ought to have a competition: most glamorous post-baby photos (I think LT is going to be a shoe-in there), biggest baby, funniest MIL comment

majormoo · 29/11/2008 13:57

Beans that is really exciting

Oli I agree would prefer to stay on one thread until everyone has had their babies. Can get very lonely for the ones left at the end otherwise.

Turnip I read WG's post about her MIL in the same way as you!!

ZJ glad you mentioned you can measure less once baby in your pelvis. My baby is engaged and I noticed when I got home my notes said I was only 37cm when should be 38cm.

Did anyone read the article in the Guardian about Lotus births, where the placenta is left to detach by itself a few days after you give birth? Had never heard of it before myself. My in-laws think I am crazy considering a birthing centre-might tell them I am opting for this just to see their faces!

Beans33 · 29/11/2008 14:26

Bisou - those pics are cool! Love the bow.

I'm not having any inkling towards labour as yet - think it could be a case of an early show and no action for a little while! One of the girls in our NCT had her show on Thursday night and had her baby yesterday afternoon!!!!! Not due for another week. Very exciting!

IceCube · 29/11/2008 14:45

I posted this in the birth forum and have a few replies but also like to know what anyone on this thread thinks...

"First pregnancy so no idea what early labour feels like but I am 38 weeks so could this be "it".Basically my bump keeps tightening up around the top.

Started noticing it last night at about 8pm, but had a bath and got to sleep as per usual at about 10pm. From waking up as normal this morning I have been feeling the tightenings every 20 mins and although they are not painful at all I have had the odd cramp.

I'm trying to decide whether tonight should be spent in the pub meeting up with some friends as was the plan or filling the birth pool etc ready for my planned home birth! "

artichokes · 29/11/2008 14:46

Hi All,

Am at the pictures of glam LadyT. I have not looked that good since having DD1 (and thats with 2.3 years to recover) .

Beans - Exciting about the show. But don't get too excited, I had one two weeks ago and still no sign .

Kayz - I am with you on the tired thing. In fact I think I am more tired when I get a good night's sleep!

Verso - Welcome home! I hope your power is back.

Effie - I am receving all e-mails now. Thanks for your help .

I agree with everyone about staying together on one thread. Much easier and more jolly.

Is extreme irritability a sign of labour? If so I am getting close... Acutally I feel better this afternoon, this morning I was a nightmare. Poor saintly DH and DD. I blame the Phil and Teds which I was trying to assemble. It was like an advanced IQ test with its stupid diagrams. Any way it is all up now and DD loves it. Her Iggle-Piggle is tucked in teh newborn part and she is pushing him about while DH and I watch rugby.

Verso · 29/11/2008 14:56

Just a quick one while I remember - I hoped my secret stork might have arrived while I was in hospital but it's never turned up . Not the end of the world but I'm a bit sad it never came.

Oh - and I'm trying to get my photos off my phone so I can upload even one of them but my PC isn't playing ball today. Harrumph!

Back later!

Kimberly1979 · 29/11/2008 15:28

IceCube sounds like Braxton Hicks to me (false labour contractions) but you might check with your MW just to be sure.

I've been baking all morning for our Thanksgiving get together. Hopefully I won't get sick since I've eaten soooo much cookie dough today! But it was sooo good! I've made oatmeal butterscotch cookies, peanut butter cookies, a peach cobbler and cornbread dressing to go with the Turkey! YUM!!

Anyone else having totally crazy hip pain?? I feel like a 80 year old! I don't think it's SPD... but it's getting really hard to walk or sleep on either side. Sitting is also uncomfortable.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

EffiePerine · 29/11/2008 15:43

Kimberley: am also suffering from hip and back aches, not to mention bump aches.

Icecube: I;d say sounds like pre-labour so don't change your plans, I managed to get my hair cut and meet with friends for a drink when I was at that stage with DS, he arrived the next morning .
