right, papiermache has been applied to the balloon.

DH suggested Leonidas a few weeks ago. he and a friend are doing the Spartan weight training program and it had something about Leonidas and the Spartans in the book on it. I have to say i don't dislike it just maybe good for an australian half chinese boy to be called Leonidas, too much temptation for bullying somehow.

Know how you feel Cat, i keep feeling that sometime after DS is born and his name is registered the perfect name will somehow appear to me. I have say i have tried though, i have looked through so many name websites. And i do have a stipulation for a not too unsual name as though i love my name no one can ever pronounce it and i am often left having to reintroduce myself to people and spelling on the phone is a nightmare. My workmates used to love seeing how people spelt my name on professional mail.

Turniphead1 · 26/11/2008 12:01

Awww Arti I feel really bad for you. How insensitive of your MiL. And I know she is trying to be helpful now - but it is So annoying when people ask you to guess when your baby is coming because you don't BLOODY KNOW. Do make it clear that if she cancels her trip your not responsible if you don't go into labour for another week or two

cat As others have said so well, even though I miss my Mum madly I love to hear of other devoted grannies and grandads. I would hate people to censor their posts on that basis. More upsetting is when on other threads you hear of Grandparents who take no interest whatsoever when I know my Mum would have given anything for another year with DD and to meet DS and this little one.

Anyhow - had another injection and check up (but no monitoring or internal). Everything seems to have settled down but interestingly, the head is really well down in my pelvis - over 3/5 - which is unusual for a 3rd pg. But think Veggie is too. Don't think it means labour is imminent but M/W said when it does happen could happen fast which surprised me since I was 3 days the first time and 9 hours second. So off for a kip to feel less like a zombie.

Kayz hope you get your ring off. Once you have another go, leave it for a day as others have said otherwise the swelling might get worse.

Penny wheat bag sounds like a great top tip!

Hatty hope that babe gets out of your ribs asap!

Cat - this is very vague - but PoisonDwarf's DS has a fab name that satisfies your criteria - but I am truly to say that for the life of me can't recall what it is (and wouldn't post it without her permission anyway). But if she reads this - she might share...Obv may not be your cup of tea but hey...

hattyyellow · 26/11/2008 12:02

Amy congratulations!! Broody again already, my word! That's encouraging though! Hope it all goes really well.

Gettingbigger 36 weeks - a big round of applause for you getting this far with twins, you are obviously cooking them expertly! I had a big sigh of relief when I got to 36 weeks with my two, it felt that even if they were born the next day they would not be worryingly premature. Hope you are managing to get some rest!

Arti you poor thing - I completely understand. How on earth are you supposed to supply times and dates for the new arrival? Are there friends who could stand in just in case? How many weeks are you now? I'm not suprised you are cross and tearful.

My mum doesn't come up for another two weeks and we still have my in-laws for main emergency standby and they have not looked after DD's for more than 10 minutes at a time with us in the next room! To be fair they are elderly and not physically capable of doing a long shift of looking after the girls.

They are supposed to be asking a neighbour to come and help them if we need them to come over and they just haven't as they "don't want to trouble her".

I've been asked exactly the same thing "tell us when you think you might be about to have it dear, and we'll ask her then and see if she's free".

Grrrr, its so important to feel relaxed and not be worrying about your kids when its all kicking off in labour. At this rate, I panic everytime I have a twinge and my main panic is what on earth to do about DD's, rather than whether I should go to hospital! There are friends who have offered but DD;s have never stayed with them and would be quite nervous and confused if I suddenly dropped them off with them.

hattyyellow · 26/11/2008 12:03

Turnip that's interesting re the 3/5ths engaged meaning things could happen fast. I am 3/5ths engaged too..will keep that in mind!

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 12:07

The whole 'when are you having it' bugs me too.
Round here you aren't allowed to ring an ambulance unless you are within 30 minutes of giving birth. But you hear so many stories of people having a contraction and then giving birth really quickly.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 26/11/2008 12:10

oh does it mean fast no wonder my MW has given us even more instructions on Precipitous birth (only just found that means quick and before medical help can get there)

Veggiemummy · 26/11/2008 12:12

Kayz thats terrible, up here the paramedics would rather be called and sitting outside having a cup of tea if they aren't needed than not be called when.

Veggiemummy · 26/11/2008 12:15

i also get a bit grumpy with unwilling grand parents, i think that has what has hurt DH a lot with his dad not wanting to know anything about this latest grandchild, he is his only living grandfather and my dad would have loved to hold his grandsons but his dad is too worried about his soul assending and doesn't want the burden of knowing about the baby coming. Luckily my MIL makes up for it with her absolute deoted love of DS and excitement at DS2 coming, she could never look after them but is so happy they exist.

Turniphead1 · 26/11/2008 12:17

Wow - in time I wrote my post weve heard about another baby! Fantastic! well done Amy and welcome to the world baby Robbie. Sounds like a great labour and I love the name!

gettingbiggerbird so lovely to hear you are still going at 36 weeks! What an acheivement! But the foodpoisoning sounds grim. Had it at 38 weeks - but one baby significantly easier than 1 when you are heaving (at both ends). Take it easy!

Veggie - Leonidas is also the name of a posh chocolate manufacturer - v popular in Ireland don't know if they sell em here. But great name!

Bisou · 26/11/2008 12:21

Congratulations Amy! What a great job, and thanks for letting us know! It's really encouraging to hear your experience, and that although it was hard work, it was all worth it for that precious gift at the end.

kmp I will put on the list if someone has an EmC/S - although they will have to let us know first of course. I'm still not sure if daisy had one, as she was booked in for a C/S on the 25th, but went into labour on the 24th. And we haven't had full details from pixsix either. But if it is mentioned, then I will include it with the update (unless requested not to).

Nice to see you back GBB - I was wondering how you were coping with your twinnies! Every time I think about any not-so-nice symptom with this pregnancy, it makes me wonder about how you must be coping with double the trouble (so to speak). Sounds like you are doing remarkably well! Are you trying for a VB or a C/S? Not sure what the procedure is with twins so forgive me for asking!

veggie that space helmet sounds cool, you should post a picture when it's done. I was envisioning one of those foil-type ones (you know, to keep the aliens from reading your thoughts, LOL) but I am super impressed with the papier mache effort. Next you'll have to make a mini one for veggiebaby! ;)

hattyyellow · 26/11/2008 12:29

Arti I'm so sorry - I've been so insensitive.

I got caught up on the whole unhelpful IL's part of your post and I can't compare my situation at all, as I'm lucky in that even if my dad can't be around, my mum will still be up to help in a few weeks.

Sorry to be so insensitive .

katie3677 · 26/11/2008 12:36

Congratulations Amy123, love the name. God, we're popping all over the place now aren't we!?! And it's not even December yet....

Bisou · 26/11/2008 12:37

Also wanted to say Arti I'm so sorry your IL's are just not supportive enough at this important time, it must be really hard. Hope you're feeling a bit cheerier soon

And Turnip I hope all goes well with the injection, at least if nothing else it will give you peace of mind if things do kick off. Here's hoping that you get a better night's sleep tonight though! And UGG boots (or similar) are AWESOME, I lived in them in the winter when I was in the UK. They are so comfy and warm. They're much cheaper to buy here in Australia though of course, so if anyone wants me to buy & send some on your behalf, let me know!

Bisou · 26/11/2008 12:39

LOL just reread that and it sounds like I'll send you all free uggys!

I wish I was rich enough to do that! hee hee

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 12:53

I have finally got round to putting a picture of the bump on my profile. Been meaning to do it for ages.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 26/11/2008 12:53

i just nearly broke the washing machine door because i leant on it to help me stand up after getting the washing out. that is heavy.

JamInMyWellies · 26/11/2008 12:55

free UGGs would be good Bisou. But I might hold you to getting them for me DP is meant to be asking a friend in Sydney to get me some new ones but he is not the most reliable of people.

Amy congrats.

Think we need to start a transitional Postnatal thread for those that have popped already.

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 13:06

Why won't DS eat a sandwich? He either eats the bread and leaves the filling or eats the filling and leaves the bread. It's so silly.

Thats a good idea Jam.

OP posts:
Bisou · 26/11/2008 13:14

Jam you're on the email list aren't you? I'll send you an email about UGGs

GettingBiggerBird · 26/11/2008 13:21

Uggs - I'd forgotten I had some, how rubbish is that. Not having to struggle with zips will be a revelation .

Turnip, poor you food poisoning so late in your pregnancy, did the hospital make you come in too?

Bisou I'm hoping for a VB, my hospital is pretty experienced with twin deliveries and quite supportive so fingers crossed.

Hatty how long did you go with your DTs? Thinking about having a sweep at 37 weeks to see if I can get things moving without having to be induced.

Bisou · 26/11/2008 13:34

Fabulous GBB! One of my favourite birth videos on youtube is of a woman giving birth to twins in a clear tub - it's one of the less disturbing ones as it's got a lovely music makeover (rather than one of the ones where all you can hear is the woman screaming at her partner, lol). Link here for anyone who's game...

rosmerta · 26/11/2008 13:35

Congratulations amy arti I'm sorry about your ILs. You'd think they'd know that you can't predict exactly when a baby's going to arrive!

Veggie space helmet sounds cool! We've been doing lots of xmas decorations which will go on the tree!

kayz must be a boy thing, ds only eats half of his sandwiches as well!

hattyyellow · 26/11/2008 13:44

GBB I got to 38+2 but was booked in for planned section as the girls were breech and transverse (very odd unwieldy looking bump!).

There were no signs of anything happening naturally at that stage so I do wonder whether I would have reached full term!

Can anyone tell me if braxton hicks can be painful? Have been getting on and off period pains and backache over the last few days but no recognisable pattern to them...didn't get noticable braxton last time so no idea which they are!

They get better when i lie down or in the bath so not unduly worried..midwife said yesterday it could be baby shoulders sticking into me...any thoughts?

hattyyellow · 26/11/2008 13:46

Bisou that video is amazing! The mother looks so calm! What a beautiful birth.
