Am I really next on the list?

katie at least your dh is concerned, my dh is still playing golf & turning his phone off!

Ladyt that's such a gorgeous name. I was going to guess Scarlett but then realised it wasn't really from Roman times!

kmp sorry you had a bad night's sleep. I get pains in my hips on whichever side I'm sleeping on as well. Haven't found anything to ease it yet though.

indith think you're right, I'll have to do the 3 a day. I'm often having to have a rest as well.

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 08:36

My wedding ring is stuck. I think I am going to have to get it cut off. My fingers don't look swollen at all but it won't budge.

I am so annoyed, I only took it off at the weekend to clean it and it was fine then.

Kayz - run your kitchen tap on cold for a few minutes then stick your hand under for about 5-10 mins. This should contract the blood vessels a bit and might give you the leeway to get it off. THen grease your hands with oily handcream / DS's bum cream and pull gently.

Theory is that if a ring went on, it'll come off - not always the case for us swollen preggers ladies, ut worth a try.

Good luck

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 08:57

I've tried that, I'm going to leave it until tomorrow now and try again.

Bloody thing!!!

bisou turns out I was up for most of the night but not on MN as though everyone was asleep. Forgot about OZ. (When feeding my first DC at night, I used to call a few of my friends at their work in Sydney or Auckland. It was lovely to feel that not everyone was asleep )

I am with you on the swollen feet. I am wearing Emu's (cheap Uggs, I think?) but they are fantasic - so cosy and so comfortable.

Another niggly crampy night. But more uncomfortable than before but nothing dramatic. No show either.

Off to Birth Unit for another steriod injection (which my Paed friend last night thought was rather overegging the pudding given I am now 36 weeks - doubtless it will cost me a £100 or so - still you got to go with their advice on such things I suppose). Wonder will they do another internal or monitoring?

KMP so sorry you had a rough night too. Sounds like SPD. If you have another softer bed you can resort to, or a mattress softner that will make a massive difference. Physio told me that the mattress that is perfect for us most times is often too hard for us when we are pg. I notice I massive difference when I sleep on my old mattress which is very very firm. I am so sore after. I also take a couple of paracetamol before bed.

katie poor you! and poor DH not knowing when he will have to speed back!

OK off now. Trying to decide whether to cab it or taxi as was a bit spaced driving yesterday and now have had no sleep....cab I think.

Turniphead1 · 26/11/2008 09:00

er taxi or drive myself. Durrr.

abbymeg · 26/11/2008 09:24

Kayz if you google, you get some great suggestions, like using spray window cleaner and wrapping string around your finger (I found an American site that had ratings for the best methods of ring removal!). It's best to try first thing in the morning. Just don't over-do it as this was my mistake. Mine had to be cut off at about 26weeks. I was gutted, but there was no way it was coming by itself. However, as the nurse at the drop in centre said to me, at least I had one to cut off!! Trying to find the positive . I had the lines on my fingers for weeks afterwards, so definitely think it had to go, but it is sad.

Massive congratulations to LadyT, Verso and Daisy .

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 09:33

Thanks Abby, I will google it, then try it in the morning. I hope it comes off.

Kayz - or Fairy Liquid? Hope you have more joy with it tomorrow. Mine was stuck on Monday but free and easy again by Tuesday.
DD and I have just written to Father Christmas! I was welling up because she could only think of 3 things for herself (she's 4yrs) but wanted to ask for rattles and teddies and blankets for the new baby sister! How cute and thoughtful! Anyway, you might already know but apparently if you write to Father Christmas at Reindeerland, SAN TA1, you get a reply from the big guy himself (with a little help from Royal Mail).
Well my mum is coming over the Pennines to have lunch with DD and I today then taking DD back on the train with her for a sleepover, so I can lie in in the morning. She'll bring her back on the train tomorrow! I think all involved will have a lovely time!
Am actually being a guinea pig tomorrow - my GP has asked me to go in to be assessed by 4 medical students who need to learn how to take a history from a pregga lady and how to feel a bump!
Anyway, catch up with you all later...

traceface · 26/11/2008 09:54

Just realised that my happy mother-daugther-granddaughter post was perhaps a little insensitive seeing as so many of you have lost your loved ones. Didn't mean to upset anyone.

Beans33 · 26/11/2008 10:19

Oh wow, I'm exhausted - have a really irritating cough. More irritating for everyone else than me, I think! Really dry and not at all satisfying, if you know what I mean.

Turnip - that's so exciting you're having contractions - please please let us know how it goes.

I love the name Octavia - gorgeous! Well done LadyT!

OH it's all go, isn't it? Hurray!

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 10:37

Just when I thought today couldn't get any worse. I have just been sick and got a letter from the GPs saying I am Anaemic and need to eat girders(ok it doesn't say that, but it does say I need iron)

OP posts:
kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 10:41

Oh yeah, my Clary Sage oil arrived today. I am hoping it is as good as everyone says for relaxing and encouraging labour.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 26/11/2008 10:49

kayz sorry about your ring, hope you get it off ok! & welcome to the girders club .

Doubt if pixsix is lurking but [hugs] to her & her family.

penny99 · 26/11/2008 10:54

Oh, LadyT, Octavia is the most beautiful name! Congratulations.

For kmp and others with sore backs - my DH bought me (well, I did suggest that he buy it!) a lavender/wheat bag which has been fantastic. He got it for about 10 quid at Debenhams - you put it in the microwave for about a minute and then place on the sore area, bliss.

hattyyellow · 26/11/2008 10:59

Turnip any news?

Huge congrats again to Verso, LadyT and Daisy what beautiful names - I'm so glad it all went well.

Kayz and Beans hope you're feeling okay.

Trace don't worry at all re mother-daughter post. For ages after my dad died when I was in my teens, people looked really guilty whenever they said something either really happy about their dads or complained about them. Life carries on and I think its lovely when people have close relationships with their parents, especially for the grandchildren.

I wish this baby would get its feet out of my ribs! Owowowowowowowowwoow

Veggiemummy · 26/11/2008 11:01

hello wow all been busy already, i am just popping myself in as bookmark about to make a space helmet with DS

jumpjockey · 26/11/2008 11:10

Morning all, congrats LadyT and what a gorgeous name! I had a great-great uncle Septimus apparently but I'm not sure that's a name that will ever come back into fashion

Turnip hope all's well with babyT, fingers crossed for hanging in there a bit longer.

kayz the ring thing, cold water definitely did the trick for me, I was terrified that they'd never come off over my knuckles but it's definitely worse in the mornings, they calm down a bit during the day.

Trace ditto what hatty said, those of us who have lost parents don't want the rest of the world to be sad as well - having our own children is a bit of a sensitive time because it makes you think about things that might have been shoved under the rug for a while, but it means that we can start the cycle all over again and hopefully be as fabby as our own parents were.

Morning All,

I had a horrible night. My MiL called and casually told us that her and FiL are going away for 4 days on Friday. It did not even occur to her that they are our only back-up to care for DD if I go into labour. They are going to be 7 hours away . DH said nothing about it to her (he never challenges his parents) but when he told me I just cried and cried. It made me miss my own parents so much. This pregnancy would have been my Mum's main obsession and she would have been so excited and supportive. It seems to hardly impinge on the PiL's conciousness.

Anyway I cried and cried for hours because I missed my Mum and feel sorry for the baby not having devoted grandparents. I was also really horrible to DH telling him what I thought of his parents and accusing him of being weak and never challenging them . Eventually he called MiL back and weakly said we were slightly worried about what would happen if I go into labour. MiL called me this morning and asked whether I thought I might go into labour soon. How am I meant to know???? She said she will not go if I think the baby is coming and she was very sweet. But how do I know if I will go into labour - probably not but who knows? I just wish she would stay out of excitment and understanding.

Sorry that was a very long story. And Trace please do not worry about posting nice stories about grandparents. I would hate people to tip-toe around the subject. I love hearing about lovely grandparents .

Kayz - I hope the ring came off. Luckily I have had no swelling at all this pregnancy. Last time I was sooooo puffy everywhere.

Turnip - good luck with the second injection. I think you might be next! I had monitoring on Monday and there was no sign of any contractions at all.

whispers I've had a baby!
Born 9.13 am Monday morning, 9 days early, after an 8 hour labour with gas and air for the last hour (thought she was never going to give it to me!)
Weight 7lb 13 1/2 oz boy - Robbie Lewis, sleeps all day and awake all night!!!
Good luck to those still waiting, you think you'll never get throught it at the time but I'm broody again already LOL.

Anne

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 11:47

Veggie the space helmet sounds cool. I can't wait for DS to be old enough to make cool stuff. Now he just wipes paint on his face.

Don't really know what to expect with the Clary Sage. Some websites say that it can bring on labour and act as a painkiller if you run out of G&A. Others say it slows labour if you are already having contractions. But it is meant to be relaxing so I will put a few drops in my bath tonight and just have everything ready to go just incase.

Cat we have had our name picked for ages. But only agreed on a middle name last night. I don't know what to do if we have a 3rd and its a girl as we have never found a girls name we both like. With the 2 boys we've known pretty much since the scan.

Hello everyone, I've been rubbish - and now there are ACTUAL BABIES on this thread, how fantastic. Congratulations to everyone.

Me and my double-sized bump are just about at 36 weeks, no signs of anything happening yet but I hope it's not too long. I had food poisoning at the weekend which is an interesting experience when this heavily pregnant, I actually ended up having to go into hospital to be checked over, and got to listen to a woman in the final stages of labour for 2 hours, which was . I can hardly walk now, especially up stairs (2 heads in the way - I have to walk like I've just got off a horse!). Hope you're all all coping with these last weeks...

kayzisexpecting · 26/11/2008 11:49

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a lovely name and a good weight!!!
I love birth announcements, I get so excited!!
