Ooh, just had a message from Verso's DH, she has had a baby girl

I'm sure she will be on herself to update us with the details

kayzisexpecting · 25/11/2008 16:13

Summer What a thing to say!!! That is just dreadful.

Veggiemummy · 25/11/2008 16:13

LOL SL bless him his heart was in the right place just could have worded it differently.

kayzisexpecting · 25/11/2008 16:18

Awwww Congratulations to Verso I can't wait to hear the story!!

Veggie I did think about squatting as its meant to be really good for giving birth in due to the gravity. But I know DH could never hold me up due to his muscular dystrophy. I am determined not to lie down all the time like I did with DS.

SummerLightning · 25/11/2008 16:21

kayz I will tell him you said that, and he will get all upset!!

I think he is trying to see off the strops where I try and get in my skinny jeans the day after the birth! Fat chance of that I like my stretchy maternity clothes, and my thin clothes are in the loft anyway.

I got the e-mail from verso's DH too, looking forward to the update from her eventually when she feels up to it!

Veggiemummy · 25/11/2008 16:24

hooray for Verso thanks for that effie.

Kayz. i loved squatting for DS but we didnt know the positions that we have learnt this time around so i used a birthing stool. It puts more pressure on your bits and the MW had me up walking around a bit as at one stage i was practically glued to the thing and was cutting off the blood supply to my lady bits, but i did find it really comfortable in 2nd stage.

Veggiemummy · 25/11/2008 16:25

SL i got into my pre preg jeans pretty quick after DS but learnt the meaning of muffin top when i did it.

kayzisexpecting · 25/11/2008 16:28

I have just read the e-mail and have sent one sending my love to her. Awwwww I want mine, I'm getting jealous!!

Summer My sister was back in her size 8 clothes 3 days later. But then again she didn't look like she had put on any weight at all.

Veggie I really wanted to try squatting with DS. Well anything but lying down. I did want to use the pool but it was already being used. The pain just got to me and I ended up lying down all the way through. Don't want to do it like that again if possible.

Veggiemummy · 25/11/2008 16:34

Kayz if your hosp doesn't have birth stools you can always hire one. There are loads of companies that hire them but not sure about price.

SummerLightning · 25/11/2008 16:34

Sadly I don't think I will be, I have put on 2.5-3 stone, and have a small bump, so i think the flab is elsewhere too. So I think it will take a while!
(Not that they were size 8 clothes in the first place, ahem)

kayz could you not try kneeling leaning with your arms resting on something, isn't that meant to be quite good as well? I am quite pro giving birth in a pool now, since (TMI alert), trying perennial massage and discovering it hurts less in water

EffiePerine · 25/11/2008 16:36

reminds me, I need to organise hiring a TENS machine (duh). Can't remember the last company I used - any recommendations?

kayzisexpecting · 25/11/2008 16:42

Apparently being on the bed with the back up, where you face the back of the bed and lean on it is meant to be good. I will ask my MW about birth stools on Thursday.

I loved my tens machine with DS. I think I was a bit PFB and had to buy it and wouldn't hire it DH kept saying "Why not just hire one, it's cheaper and you won't use it outside of labour" refused to listen to him.

SummerLightning · 25/11/2008 16:48

My friend has bought a TENS machine, I am getting it after her, assuming she has her baby first (due date this sat)!!!

Mine was a life saver. I don't know how I would have coped without it. But some people say that they found them useless.

Congratulations Daisy and Verso, fab news.

Just had my final midwife appointment (I have only seen her twice throughout this pregnancy). All well, baby's head is not engaged at all, but apparently that's normal for 2nd pregnancy and actually better if you are having a CS, so that they don't have to pull it back up IYSWIM. She also reckons that baby is not as big as the hospital are predicitng, she reckons it's more likely to be 8/9lbs, which would be even more of a shock than a big baby to be honest.

Just had to spend a horrendous amount of money getting the car serviced and MOT'd, but Iguess atleastit's done and I know it is safe forthe foreseeable. Still have to tax it though - gulp! Hate spending money at the moment as I know how much I am going to be spending once baba comes along, plus not earning anything.

Beans33 · 25/11/2008 17:16

Hurray for Verso - very exciting! God, it's all so imminent isn't it??? Woohoo! Just had lunch with a friend and her gorgeous little girl, who is 15 months and pouring snot. Made me feel a bit sick, but she's such a good humoured thing, made me really glad to be having ours!!! And bought a little babygrow from baby Gap that says "I'm perfect (just like my Daddy)" on the front of it. Thought it would keep DH happy, despite me having bought something unnecessary!!! Hee hee!

Beans33 · 25/11/2008 17:28

PS I'm not getting a TENS machine. Don't really know why not, just never got round to it. Have heard quite a few people say they're useless! But then also heard a few say they're brilliant. I think it's just because it's another expense.

Veggiemummy · 25/11/2008 17:44

I got a tens machine through tens-hire.co.uk after recommendation from someone on here. Comes 3 weeks before EDD or asap if ordered after that time and is £24 hire cost which is for 6 weeks hire with 1 week free extension if needed and all the postage. Also came with an instruction DVD which is handy because DH and i can't remember where to put the electrode thingys.

Veggiemummy · 25/11/2008 17:52

i'm also going to get some hot water bottles or those wheat packs as MW has recommended a hot compress didnt use last time but i think it would be very helpful in 1st stage.

Turniphead1 · 25/11/2008 18:03

Aww such lovely news from Verso and Daisy!!! It's all so exciting.

Well, thanks for those asking after me. Rang Birth Unit. They asked me to come in for monitoring. Sat for 40 mins on the contractions/heartbeat monitor. The best news is that babyTurnip is fine - heartbeat great.

I was quite to find out that I am having regular contractions. They were/are every 5 mins or so - but mild (ie I still just feel periody and crampy - like you Trace). But felt less crazy for the m/w showing them on the printout. So, because of my gestation (35 + 6 - and you have to be 36 weeks to give birth there) - they called out the consultant. He gave me an internal and the cervix is still closed - so nothing happening imminently. At that point - I thought "total false alarm" - but then they decided to give me a steroid injection for the baby's lungs in case anything happens but said I could go home. I'd been there about 3 hours. On my way out - the m/ws told me to keep my legs closed til midnight tonight, at which point I will be able to give birth there!

They did seem to think something might happen
but I just don't know. I have been feeling distinctly odd and crampy ever since - but really don't know if its all a false alarm and that I will still be waiting for baby on New Years Eve (like Kayz was saying). Haven't had a show either, and normally have one.

So - going to go out for something to eat tonight with my NCT friends because I haven't seen them for ages and ages (and we are meeting at pub at bottom of our road plus - one a GP and one a Paediatrician so fairly covered if something happens). Nanny on standby to come down road during night if we need to go in...
I have to go back tomorrow anyway for another steroid injection in the bee-hind. Ouch.

Interesting chats about DH's going away. Cat I would take 36 weeks myself as the cut off. I did LOL about your comment about posting your pin online!

Beans I saw that babygro in Gap - its lovely! you Dh will love it,

Kimberly - have a fabulous Thanksgiving and enjoy the Peach Cobbler.

Katie you are so organised - my car needs service MOT and front airbag disabled so I don't have to wedge 3 carseats in back. Have I done it? Oh no... An 8lb/9lb baby sounds good - but a shock after the size you had before, hey.

Veggie 3/5 engaged is great for second time around, hey! Hope you get that birthpool soon so you can use it to relax. I was looking longingly at the birthpool where I had DS today - as its in the room where they were monitoring me.

We are just waiting to hear from LadyT. Can I just say - I know the name they were planning - but of course you'd all have to kill me to get it out of me.....

waitinggirl · 25/11/2008 19:06

i'm waiting for the announcement of LadyT's dd's name, almost more than anything!

kmp1 · 25/11/2008 19:15

me too - let's guess...

turnip I missed your earlier post! Sounds very exciting but at the same time, its frustrating not knowing if something's going to happen or not! I agree that carrying on as normal-ish is probably the best thing & then you're not getting too stressed about it all.

Hmm, babyT's name? Will have a think about that one...
