MJ good luck with your move!

Moose, your poor little DS, hope he recovers quickly for you and that Christmas helps lift his spirits.

Our sicky bug is still lurking.. DD and I have had it for 4 days now and it seems to come and go in waves. We got absolutely no sleep last night as she kept shouting and screaming but wouldn't indicate what was wrong. . oh the joys.

HeathersMummy · 14/12/2008 13:10

Moose, so sorry to hear about everything your wee boy has been through - I'm in tears just thinking about it. You are a true star, I don't know where you have summoned the strength from to keep going. I'm sure the wee guy will be back up and terrorising the lot of you before you know it .
Miss J - good luck with the big move!

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 14/12/2008 13:14

Spink, thanks, am grateful for any advice having never been through this before.

A lot of his trauma was caused by one particular incident relating to them attempting to replace his canula, not waitig for the emla to work properly and then not being able to find a vein. (One particular junior doctor was absolutely dreadful and made the whole thing worse by trying to fit a canula to the side of his hand with no pain relief in that location). He ended up over the week with canulas in both hands and one elbow plus at least 6-7 holes in each location caused by them trying to find a suitable vein. After the worst incident, despite being praised for being the most compliant patient on the ward initially, he screamed at the mere sight of a doctor or nurse and eventually panicked every time his door opened.

We have had lots of talks about why the doctors had to do things and why Mummy had to let them hurt him to make him better and although he understands better he is still very angry with me, which is totally understandable. He doesn't want to discuss it now we are home, he just wants to focus on Christmas, but I think he will when he is ready. At the moment he has reverted to baby speak and wanting to be babied so we are taking the lead from him, although having to be careful not to over indulge him.

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 14/12/2008 13:35

ye me and my partner have both had it thank goodness

Spink · 14/12/2008 13:35

sounds like you are managing it all really well, mm, Don't worry about repeating yourself over and over, if/when he does come back to talking about it, often it takes a while for things to 'click' (true for adults as much as children!)

largeginandtonic · 14/12/2008 13:36

Oh Moose

My ds had pneumonia when i was expecting ds#4, he was admitted when i was a week overdue and stayed in for a week. It was awful, i was on a z bed too. What a scary time. I am so glad he is home with you now.

I told the baby he could not be born until his brother was home and safe. I went in to labour as i left the hospital and just made it home!

Tink you need to keep that baby in a few weeks now with dd having CP. Is she still breech?

GTDAB hope your little one is ok, all this illness is terrible at this time of year.

JOKAT!! Congratulations! I had the twins at 29 weeks but they were so poorly, your dd sounds like she is doing so well! Hope you get her home for new year

I am soooo niggly, backache and fidgeting. I have another 4 weeks to go!

moosemama · 14/12/2008 13:47

Cleaning party and meals sounds great, but friends all live ridiculously far away and both sets of parents out of town this weekend!

DS1 not too bad considering, he was much worse during the week, with lots of acting out and much screaming and shouting when Daddy tried to get him to school in the morning. His school has been great and really looked out for him, so its good that we discussed his 'issues' with his teacher not long before all this happened. Grandma has looked after him a lot and he has been spoiled rotten so that in itself has brought its own problems, but nothing we can't handle. He seemed to rally quite well after I turned up to his nativity and spent some time with him afterwards. Then he got to come and fetch us from hospital yesterday and was fussed over by some of the nurses so he got to feel special as well.

DH is being very good, trying to clean everything up, I on the otherhand am being totally useless and am too tired to move!

HM I didn't really cope that well and on one night went completely to pieces before DH went home as I wasn't going to see anyone for 24hrs and couldn't face seeing the horrible consultant on my own in the morning. (She was one of those, I am a God and must be obeyed types and treated me as if I was stupid, which was weird as the nurses kept asking me if I was a nurse!) She was in fact truly awful to me the next morning but DH got sent home when he went to work and came straight to the hospital and gave her a real serve!

Had a wobbly in the middle of the night last night as well. After I had slept for 7 hours solid I woke up and had a full on anxiety attack as the enormity of the past week hit me along with the enormity of what is still to come. Have calmed down now though.

Gosh, my heart goes out to all of you who have to deal with bugs, hospital stays etc., I know how exhausting it is and how frightening it can be...

As I've been asked about pictures, I have just uploaded some

lg&t - feels breech seeing midwife thursday will find out then
jokat how gorgeous

Periwink · 14/12/2008 18:45

Jokat - congratulations!

Chefwife - thanks for the lovely post, so encouraging to hear that you had such a wonderful experience.

Heathersmummy - hope all goes well tomorrow.

moosemama · 14/12/2008 18:50

lg&t its awful isnt it. I was petrified I would go into labour and be wheeled off to the maternity across the road leaving my poorly ds all alone. Had one night of really strong BH accompanied by regular diarrhea and really started to worry that that was it. Fortunately, it was just the combination of the most uncomfortable bed in the world and all the stress plus not being able to get anything to eat except snacky stuff from the hospital shop which DH brought in every day.

Tink, I'm so sorry to hear your little one has the dreaded chicken pox, hope she gets better really soon. I'm sure my little madam is still breech. Its so uncomfortable with her head wedged either in my stomach or lungs depending which takes her fancy. She was frank or extended breech when they scanned her on Thursday before last, but I am getting some whopping thuds really low down now so I think she might have moved her legs. I am seeing the consultant this Thursday too, so will know more about what's going to happen then.

gtdab, I had severe spd with both of my previous pregnancies and was expecting hell this time, but its been nowhere near as bad. I was incapacitated before 6 months and couldn't walk at all by the end with both of the boys, but have been able to carry on pretty much as normal with just the odd bad day this time. I found that breastfeeding did prolong the symptoms with the boys but was able to feed both of them for 6-7 months anyway. (I told DH he had to have the snip straight after I had DS2 and look at me now!)

jokat she is absolutely beautiful.

elkiedee · 14/12/2008 19:08

Sorry to hear about your nightmare experience moosemama. Glad to hear that your dh is trying to clear up a bit, and not surprised to hear you need a rest, if anyone has an excuse you have. Hope your little boy makes a swift and full recovery.

Hope all the other sick children and mums on here feel better again soon as well.

LenniEd · 14/12/2008 19:29

MM I am just glad to hear you are home. Sounds like an awful experience. Don't worry about the house, just get yourself in bed! I hope that little baby turns round for you soon.

Jokat she is so beautiful and it's amazing to see how much she has changed already.

Tink hope your DD recovers quickly, poor thing. And cross those legs!

GTDAB Poor DS - lets hope the next few days see him over it.

SPD bad here too - had it with DD but only very mildly.

DD being very very clingy and over-sensitive all of a sudden. Think it might be a touch of baby anxiety. Not really sure how to help, think once the baby finally arrives and people stop going on about this enormous event like it is the apocalypse she'll be fine.

I'm hitting "So you're still here" territory all of a sudden everytime I turn up at a toddler group or something, ooooo it makes me mad - I'm only bloody 36wks!! Anyone else getting this already?

Moosemama- what a horrific experience, glad DS is home now, wishing a speedy recovery.

BooksGalore- Afraid my identity went out the window being that there is a facebook group for mumsnet jan 09- so anyone could quite easily find out who OH is :-)

tink- glad you both had CP. Hope she feels better soon.

Have fought off the sniffles for weeks now, but OH has kindly given me a massive Dose, so am feeling sorry for myself under the duvet on the couch.

rrrayray · 14/12/2008 20:17

Ohhhh... i almost forgot. Good luck for tomorrow heathersmummy! xxx

BlueSapphire77 · 14/12/2008 20:30

givethedogabone i had one of those old bags you were on about lol she nearly put me off breastfeeding..she PINCHED my boob and flippin crammed it in my sons mouth ffs
Anyone else reckon breastfeeding pains are like labour pains only backwards hehe
I'm due 7th jan but went 2 weeks over with my other 2 gulp eleven year gap between my last and this one so it'll be back to having a chuff like a wizards sleeve again
I'm thinking of touring schools showing girls 'this is what happens to your body when you have a baby' What dya reckon

chefswife · 14/12/2008 21:08

moosemama my good thoughts are with you. keep a positive attitude and good thoughts on the mind... things will get better.

we woke up this morning to 2 feet of snow. yes i know i live in canada but southern vancouver island doesn't get snow. DH had to park at the bottom of the hill last night and trudge up the hill in the snow. but the lovely thing is, is that because we are snowed in, DH had to stay home from work today. he made runny eggs and smokey bacon for breakfast! oh so good. my appetite is back with a vengeance!

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 14/12/2008 21:29

Just in from 8-8:30 shift.

MM - Jesus. Have cried reading your postin gof your stay in hospital and what your poor little man has gone through. Bless you all. Feel really grumpy about the care yo recieved and them not waiting for the emla cream to work and stuff. And the consultant. WHAT is that about? WHY make you feel like that?

Bless you. Rest up and sling the laundry and a launderette, service washes rock!

Will read through rest of posts now - it's busy in Jan baby world!
