HOM I suspect 3.5 years is slightly more tricky than 2.5 years since I assume their level of understanding is even more sophisticated.

I am erring on the side of DS going to Granny's for a little "holiday" - she lives only 15 mins away from me, he loves going there and is used to staying for 2/3 nights if we've gone away for a weekend. He won't even need to know why I'm going (when he goes to Granny's we usually say that Mummy and Daddy are going to work since she looks after him once a month when I do go to work) - he happily trots off there. I am hoping that going on a little holiday will be so much easier for him to take on board than being wheeled in to see me and a new sibling in a strange environment only to be told he has to go home again and leave us behind. Even staying at home with Daddy with Daddy dropping him off at Granny's each day could be hard as he'll keep expecting to see me at home which I think will be worse.

I think you're right though about not telling too far in advance. Even though my ds is a year younger than your ds - I tend not to tell him anything til we're near the event (partly because he then goes on and on due the fact probably that they have little concept of time !) - if they're sensitive souls you don't want to overload them too much do you nor make them worry about things. I suppose I've just started to focus a bit more on the issue now and it's got me thinking.....

herbgarden · 01/12/2008 15:48

how old's your ds mslucy I can't remember?

nadssss · 01/12/2008 16:31

Glad the curry was fun! And Swampy so pleased the news is as good as can be. Really hope you are feeling okay and keeping positive.

Am having really bad heartburn issues too. Last night I ate greedily and very late following it with pudding and suffered all night and today. It is my own fault of course because even as I was eating I knew I was overeating. Hardly slept and am so tired at work today just counting the minutes down. Amazing how tiredness can make everything seem like so much more of a struggle

Bump pain ? Spotty ? I had similar on Saturday and I think it was the baby changing position. I think she went traverse and kind of stuck her head and bum (I think) out on each side. Incredibly painful and very odd and hard. I am hoping this is normal. She has gone back to normal position now which is basically head down ? so same as you pinkbabybump don?t worry!

pluto · 01/12/2008 16:38

I know what you mean about the complexities of "what to do with the DC1 when we go into labour with DC2" My DS is 9 and I think he is going to be really if he knows I'm tucked away snuggling newbie in hospital rather than at home. I'm half hoping DC2 will arrive on or around due date because it's half term then and the GPs can make a big fuss of him; on the other hand if he's at school at least that's the usual routine and that will keep him occupied. Whatever, I'll make sure he comes into hospital with DH to bring the baby home - I think that should be a full family affair. I think I'll want to keep visitors at bay for a bit when I get home - I felt overwhelmed by friends and family visiting last time and I really want to make a big fuss of DS1 when I get home as far as this is realistic so he doesn't start to feel sidelined by the baby. Hopefully hospital stay won't be as long as last time - six days. Although I'm going down the VBAC route even if it is a CS the MW has said they send everyone home after 3 days now.

dinkystinky · 01/12/2008 19:42

Herbgarden - a few days at granny's house sounds like a brilliant idea for your DS as he's so used to it already. MsLucy - sounds like you have a great plan for your DS too (hope all is much better in MsLucy's world this week). We're playing it by ear - if baby comes around due date, DS's nanny will come look after DS; if he comes in the first 2 weeks of February (while nanny is on holiday), then we'll rely on a mixture of my sister (for coming over to keep an eye on DS overnight), mother in law (if baby comes on a day when she doesnt work and she can get the train down to london ok - take her about 3 hours) or neighbours (for absolute emergencies). If worst comes to worst, DH will stay home with DS until the cavalry arrives and I'll go on ahead with the doula.

herbgarden · 01/12/2008 19:49

dinky - sounds like you have all angles covered!
nadsss - have you taken any heartburn/acid stuff? I've upped my gaviscon intake the last few days too - it's really unpleasant but I've tried to take some before I eat which seems to help a bit and then a spoon afterwards.

I think my lo is lying across and punching one side and kicking the other !.....it's also v.weird when they decide to do a little somersault in there ! Feels like someone is pulling your insides out.....

Wallaroo · 01/12/2008 19:51

Hello all, saw midwife today! Baby breech at the mo but plenty of time to turn. Hope everyone is ok!

dinkystinky · 01/12/2008 20:08

You're right that the baby has plenty of time to turn Wallaroo - you can try optimal foetal positioning if you want to encourage the baby to turn (try spinningbabies website).

dinkystinky · 01/12/2008 20:46

Cant believe we're already over 800 posts - the rate we chat at, we'll need another thread within the week. Time to start thinking of some new thread ideas.. how about a christmassy themed one:

"Jingle bells, mysterious smells - Fab Feb 2009 babies will soon be on their way; oh what fun it is to waddle around like an overstuffed turkey all day"?

Wallaroo · 01/12/2008 20:47

lol dinky not sure anyone can beat that!!!!

littlesez · 01/12/2008 21:15

yep that sounds good to me dinky!

Had heartburn 24 7 anyone else, i do have gavinscon and new rennie tablets, is the liquid any better? not been able to go to the gym because it makes me feel like im going to be sick, even with gavinscon in my pocket!

Also had loads of movement, thinks she must be getting big now! sure shes trying to swim! keep feeling little flickers like she would be kicking realy fast, love it though

can anyone else actually see the kicks so exciting!!!!

chilledmama · 01/12/2008 21:16

evenin all.
Herby - your idea sounds erally nice for your DS. If he's only 2.5 when LO due then it will likely come as a bit of a surprise...bless my DS, I know he certainly doesn't have a clue even though he kisses my tummy etc. I'm planning to have another Homebirth so trying to prepare DS for that by reading him Hello Baby continually but I'm fairly sure it isn't sinking in...oh well, he'll probably end up in the bath with me in early stages...I'm crossing my fingers that my labour is all overnight agin!!!

Any, I've got that 3rd trimester feeling so going to bed!

thehouseofmirth · 01/12/2008 21:16

Is anyone else as far away (if not further...) from choosing a name for their baby as they were 7 months ago, or is it just us?!

Talking of names, this is my first year on MN. What's all this business about Christmas names or is it just those who inhabit the Christmas board who have them? I could be theHOHOHOuseofmirth...

Wallaroo · 01/12/2008 21:20

we are going round in circles with names. Boys sorted but girls - round and round, so far Elizabeth Amy or Abigail but it changes with the day!!

thehouseofmirth · 01/12/2008 21:29

I thought it would be easier when we knew what flavour the baby is and could just concentrate on one set of names but apparently not!

Elizabeth was on my girl list. Nice & classic but very versatile. We were thinking of shortening it to Betsy. What are your boy choices?

Wallaroo · 01/12/2008 21:53

I think we will go for Matthew

thehouseofmirth · 01/12/2008 22:06

That's a nice name. We're having trouble as DS's name is fairly unusual and of course this one's name will have to fit with that too.

Wallaroo · 01/12/2008 22:37

We are the opposite DD and DS have very classic names so we have to go with that with this one!

rosieposey · 01/12/2008 22:41

I dont know why but every sodding year i buy new Christmas tree lights and after learning my lesson 4 years ago when i put the lights on the tree then docorated it then lit it three hours later after meticulously putting all the decorations on it found that the lights didnt work. Well i bought some more lights today from B and Q as last years didnt work from Tesco and the year before from Sainsburys ect ect and guess what ... yup they didnt bloody work! grrrr I wanted to get that tree done tonight! Right light rant over Night all xx

mslucy · 01/12/2008 23:41

my world is a lot rosier - thanks for asking dinky.
DS is 3.5 (like yours, HOM).

He knows Stanley is coming out in February, but I don't think anything can prepare him for the reality.

btw Stanley has been Stanley since we had the CVS test at 13 weeks and found out he was a boy.

DS1 was named at a very early stage as well - don't ask me why!

KT1983 · 02/12/2008 08:56

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had any snow yet? Its freezing here, but no snow.

I know its only Tuesday, but I cant wait for it to be the weekend already...Think Im going to do some Christmas shopping on Saturday & then put up some decorations at home...Time to get into the festive spirit!

littleboyblue · 02/12/2008 09:02

We've had our name sorted now for a few weeks. When we were pg with ds, we agreed if a boy dp'd name and if a girl I'd name. Didn't really like ds's name for first few months, but love it now and as I'm so indecisive, have left it to dp again. He's picked a nice name, not sure if I love it, but no doubt will when he gets here.

Putting tree up today, which means lots of rows and shouting!! Can't wait

swampster · 02/12/2008 09:19

Get on to the FB names disucssion so you can tell us all what those names are - I NEED to know!

Calico1 · 02/12/2008 09:21

Morning

Tis freezing here too - had to chip the ice off the car locks to get DS to nursery this morning. Blue skies and no snow though......

Yet again have had no sleep with DS waking about 5 times between 12 and 6 last night - arrrgggghhhh. Don't know how I'll manage a crying newborn too - think I might have to put toddler up for sale on Ebay, actually I'd be happy to give him away the way I feel at the moment.

Have to have anti D jab this afternoon - not looking forward to it, but at least I get to hear baby's heartbeat again, it always makes me smile.

mrsy · 02/12/2008 10:20

Hey everyone.

I'm feeling really grotty today, have a cold, so the coughing and sneezing is buggering my back again, and am not sleeping at all. Spending a day under the duvet but need some company and virtual painkillers and/or alcohol from you crazy lot...

Spent most of the weekend worrying about the GTT and anti-D combo yesterday morning, so didn't sleep much - really can't face more bad news at the moment. Will get the results of the GTT later today (and Calico the anti-D is fine, just stings a bit...)
