Just quickly checking in to say hi and thank you Dinky, Eejaykay and Nkweto for a lovely evening yesterday! Really enjoyed meeting up and look forward to the next one!

Better dash as urgent insurance renewals taking up too much of my time for MNing . Roll on the weekend ....

thehouseofmirth · 28/11/2008 15:05

Happy Friday everyone. Glad you London lot managed to have a fab evening last night without me!

What do you reckon would be our chances of doing a day time London meet sometime in January? Or is everyone working up to the bitter end? Though even if you are I'm sure technically it falls well within the definition of an ante natal appointment! We could meet at the Rayl Festival Hall cafe and eat cake all day while the little ones charge about.

Does anyone know what time Swampy was seeing the consultant?

dinkystinky · 28/11/2008 15:11

Markstretch - your mind is one track!

MamaGoose - sorry to hear about the clique in your pregnancy yoga class; will probably be easier to make friends with the locals at mummy and baby groups once the little one has arrived anyway as babies are a great leveller

THOM - am afraid I'm working till the bitter end though coffee and cake with marauding toddlers at the RFH sounds like a great idea. If other London/london surrounds MNers are up for, you should definitely organise it as the next meet up in January.

Calico1 · 28/11/2008 15:25

Hi - have been lurking rather than posting recently.

I'd be up for Jan London meet up. I can get to London pretty easily in the day - it's a bit trickier for evenings. I am supposed to be working up till end of Jan, but I work for myself so can book time off without asking!

Been pretty shattered this week - particularly as DS has been having 'night terrors'. He wakes up screaming and fights me when I try to comfort him (literally can't hold onto him as he is trying to hit and kick me). Sometimes he is shouting 'no, no, no' or 'away' and doesn't seem to respond to anything. It's awful all I can do is sit next to him and wait about 30 mins till he calms down. Has anyone else experienced this?

Have been reading up on all the baby stuff you lots are buying - I haven't bought a thing yet.....I'm assuming big sales opportunity in Jan.

Questionkid · 28/11/2008 15:51

Hi all,

I've just skim read to catch up on everything. I'm gutted I missed out on curry night last night, however I did eat Thai red curry so I could feel I was there in spirit. Oh, it was yummy. Yum yum. I would definitely be up for another meet up in January, count me in. I'm hoping to be on maternity leave from 6 Jan (with lots of annual leave over xmas so actually finishing work on 23 December (hooray!) so could no doubt do day time.

Markstretch - I can sympathise with the racing heart and with the sudden realisation of impending baby arrival. First the racing heart - it happens to me maybe every couple of days and is always a bit disturbing. I feel like I need to sit down for a moment. My BP is still fine though so I've just put it down to pregnancy and trying not to worry about it. And DH and I bought Junior's 'coming home from hospital' sleepsuit last night (30% off voucher from Baby Gap, we couldn't resist!) and I did suddenly have a 'oh crap, this is real isn't it?' moment.

Junior is going through an incredibly active phase at the moment. He makes the entire top half of my stomach move in weird alien like waves, which I find very amusing. DH says he's 'rearranging his living quarters' because he's getting bigger. Some of the kicks are incredible too, real stomach shakers. Fortunately he is apparently head down at the moment so nothing happening in the fanjo. I remember that feeling - plain odd.

Thinking of you today Swampy, hope all is as good as it can be.

Questionkid · 28/11/2008 15:53

Oh, and hello to the newbies. Meant to say that too.

littleboyblue · 28/11/2008 16:04

A Jan meet with the little terrors sounds good THOM would def be up for that. But more so after the babies are born and can have 2 glasses of wine without being stared at!!
Can't believe it's friday already, the weeks are flying by, but they're not iykwim. I feel like I've been saying 11 weeks to go forever!

swampster · 28/11/2008 16:05

A huge thank you to all of you guys for your support. It IS as good as it can be - have posted to FB.

mumoverseas · 28/11/2008 16:10

hi swampy, sounds promising, will have to try to get into FB now x

littleboyblue · 28/11/2008 16:13

Sounds good. Fingers crossed for you then Swampy.

PinkTulips · 28/11/2008 16:26

good to hear swampy, will check out FB asap

calico, my dd suffers night terrors as well. sleep disorders are rampant in dp's family so thankfully had him to talk me through the best ways to cope with it. it sounds awful but the best thing you can do is simply to stay in the room close to the child but not to touch them too much and never ever try to wake them as this can make the nightmare far worse for them and often results in it being recurring. talk soothingly and stroke their forehead a little to ease them through it but don't try to snap them out of it by talking loudly or trying to wake them no matter how bad it seems to be getting.

you have my sympathies, it really is terrifying when they're so distressed and scared and you can't help them. most kids do grow out of it though so there is hope

pluto · 28/11/2008 16:48

Before I scurry over to facebook I would also like to say that I would be well up for a daytime London meet up when mat leave starts - I'm free from 19th Jan.

thehouseofmirth · 28/11/2008 16:51

Ok, Londoners/Southerners. How would Monday 12th January suit everyone? I'd have to give DS a day off nursery as his "afternoon" session is effectively in the middle of the day so Mondays are least disruptive but if that doesn't suit the majority then we can be flexible.

As well as having fab cake adn being child-friendly I'm hoping RFH is good from an accesibility pov for a lot of us as it's very near Waterloo.

thehouseofmirth · 28/11/2008 16:54

Sorry Pluto, cross-posted there! 19th's fine for me too. I just thought the sooner the better in terms of not being too close to anyone's due date.

dinkystinky · 28/11/2008 18:56

Swampster- glad the trip to the consultant gave you some answers. Will check out facebook now.

MamaGoose · 28/11/2008 20:42

MarkStretch - oooh, very witty!! Could be a handy option after the birth though - especially if you could just clip one off and replace with a nice new one (you know, a never-had-children-before one?)

spottyshoes · 29/11/2008 07:45

Morning all - bloomin MN has not let me on for a few days, kept getting that internet error msg. Probably wont have time to catch up on all but have been on and off FB all week to keep up with the news. Took me a while to realise who you were RosieP with you new surname! Congrats again.

I might try and come to the 19th meet up. It's my birthday the following day so may have to convince DH a night in London is required

I seem to be going through another knackered/perma-hungry phase, assume s/he must be growing.

littleboyblue · 29/11/2008 08:49

Morning. We can come on 19th too, we'll stay at my mum's in Putney on 18th to make journey a bit easier.

Just had call from doctors, got to go on another course of anti-biotics for UTI.

Ds is in the phase where he doesn't want to go to bed, he's whimpering for over an hour now. Tires you out doesn't it, although I'm leaving him for the most part. Was hoping to take the sides off the cot this weekend to get him used to a bed, but I'm not chasing round the flat after him at 9pm!!

pluto · 29/11/2008 10:23

19th is looking promising for meet up then. Will be my first day of mat leave. Only 25 working days to go! Hurrah!

PinkTulips · 29/11/2008 13:14

quiet today aren't we?

refused to get out of bed til 12 as my head was thumping again and yet again despite it being my lie in the kids were in at 7am and dp was 'too sick' to get up with them til 9.30

i'm so sick of getting up with them no matter how violantly ill/tired/sore/etc i am that i just lay there and waited him out and then snuggled down and ignored the screaming and roaring they were all doing downstairs. childish but oddly satisfying as he does it to me all the time and refuses to feel guilt so why should i?!

am very of you all meeting up! maybe if i win the lotto over xmas i'll fly over and join ye on the day

am off into town now for some shopping.... both kids want to come..... the joy!

Calico1 · 29/11/2008 14:42

Thanks for advice on night terrors Pinktulips - I have been waking him up sometimes, but will try to just it run its course instead.

THOM - I'll stick 19th Jan into diary for meet up - should be ok with me.

Swampy - glad news sounds positive, off to Facebook to have a look x

MarkStretch · 29/11/2008 19:18

Hello

I have been trying to teach dd about money.

She has £1.52 in her money bank and is trawling through the Argos catalogue saying 'Can I afford this? How about this? This one?'

So I got a piece of paper and a pen and tried to explain that £1.52 is not a lot of money and she nodded earnestly and said she understood and then pointed at something which cost £12.99 and said 'Soooo, I can definitely afford this'.

She is so capable in other areas but unfortunately the money is taking a little while...

Apart from that we have been at my mothers, she fed me loads of food and I didn't get dressed until 1pm today, hurrah!

Where is everyone?

OP posts:
thehouseofmirth · 29/11/2008 19:37

I'm here! How old is she MS I'm 38 and, like your DD, am generally considered intelligent and capable but am actually not much more advanced in terms of pecuniary reasoning than she is.

Have been shuffling stuff around today. DH put DS's new wardrobe together last night so have moved all his clothes from chest of drawers into that. Was looking forward to getting baby stuff out, sorting it and filling up the drawers but there are so many randomly packed bags and boxes I've run out of enthusiasm.

I've started a thing on FB about the Jan London meet up. MS if you leave Norwich at 9.30am you can be with us by noon and yo uonly need to change from or train to the tube. Easy!

thehouseofmirth · 29/11/2008 19:48

sorry should read:

...you only need to change from one train to the tube.
