Here i am, have added myself to the list (again)

herbgarden · 13/11/2008 21:49

I was so out of it by the time I had my CS that I don't really know what went on behind my head squeezing/poking or otherwise. I remember them handing him to me and almost feeling too woozy to hold him and being terrified that I might drop him. I then spent the next 7 hours being sick from all the drugs and sleeping on and off whilst the ladies wimbledon final was going on in the background.....it was a very surreal day. I had no skin to skin contact with him til later on in the day. With an elective this time at least I won't have had more drugs than my body can cope with by the time I have the CS so really hope it is a better experience for the two of us.

You lot of 30 and under stop complaining - you're making those of us, ahem, nearer 40 feel VERY OLD !.....

I have heartburn tonight - already had one spoonful of gaviscon before dinner but prob need another one - slightly reluctant as a couple of weeks ago I promptly threw up after I'd had the gaviscon so am now convinced it's making me puke !....

Hello all

Just marking the thread for when I've got more time....

spotty if you can't find anything for indigestion, drink some milk (I drink DDs blue top stuff)....it really helps.

thehouseofmirth · 13/11/2008 22:32

While it's on my mind I'm just wondering who apart from me is still BF an older one? I'm still hating every second of it and can't wait for it to stop hurting though I'm a bit worried that the agitation won't go away. Hope it does as DS is so very committed to his nightly snack and I can ony imagine he'll have even greater enthusiasm when there's a milk fountain again!

littlesez · 13/11/2008 22:32

Re my tit! oh i know i just read it back again, very funny really! new thread and i'm gonna keep up with this one ladies. cant believe im still awake think its coz hubby is still out at work, usually in bed by 10!

mumoverseas · 14/11/2008 06:14

THOM - err, I am Don't tell many people as have been criticised for it though. DD was 2 last month and have tried sooooo hard to stop but she loves it. I'm also finding it really painful and have managed to get her down to just last thing at night or early hours but she just won't stop! early this morning she cuddled up to me saying 'booby, booby' so I asked which one (she has her favourite and I was hoping she'd go for the nearer, and less sore one) slightly baffled when she replied 'the pink one'! Think she was confused with breakfast time and choosing her spoons when she has a choice of pink or blue! (quickly checking boobs are indeed the same colour!) Think TBM is still feeding or at least was until her recent hospital stay. I'm sure we are not alone!

spottyshoes · 14/11/2008 06:45

I'm loud and proud - only so loud as is really baffles my family who thought my mum was superwoman/slightly mad for feeding me for 11months! They always ask in a slightly incredulous voice - are you still feeding him , when are you going to stop???!!

I LOVE bf! I have been lucky never to have had problems (although a wee bit sore occassionally now i'm pg). However, I have decided against tandem feeding as I think bf is such a special thing and DS has had it exclusively so I want to do the same for this l.o. I have heard it takes about a month for them to 'forget' about it so am weaning DS of it at Xmas when he will be 20.5mths. Would have fed him until around 2 maybe 2.5 if we hadn't been having another. Am quite at the thought but determined to do it though, think he's had quite a good innings.

Am gutted this morning as woke up with serious cramp at 5.30 and DS & DH are still sleeping! It's been a long time since I got up before DS!

Did have milk in the end LMN - yuck, hate it, but it did the trick.

jenniferturkington · 14/11/2008 08:09

Just adding myself back to the list, I am a regular lurker but rarely have anything interesting to post!

I am still breastfeeding DS who is 17 months, it is a bit uncomfortable at the moment but I have no intention of weaning him yet as he really loves it. However, I wouldn't be upset if he self-weaned anytime soon (not a chance!). My main concern is the fact that he is dependent on it for falling to sleep at bedtime, which I suppose is a habit that needs breaking, problem is it's so easy to get him to bed at the moment!

Hello all.

Right, can you all help me out with something?

Good friend of mine is going to have dd for us when I go into hospital and I have been thinking of preparation. So far I have....

Emailed her with all of dd's school details (teachers, phone numbers, school times, etc)

Also given her my Dad's number in case she has any problems with picking dd up from school.

I will write a letter to the school with friends details and informing them of the plan.

Friend is going to keep a supply of clothes, knickers, toothbrush etc at hers for dd.

Am going to get a key cut for friend so she can come to ours and help herself to whatever dd needs while we are in.

I will pack dd a bag with a few bits in it also so she has familiar things from home.

IS THERE ANYTHING I HAVE FORGOTTEN?!?!

OP posts:
mumoverseas · 14/11/2008 08:56

wow, how organised are you? very impressive!
Only thing I've thought about in addition is have you bought a present for DD from baby? I'm planning on taking a little pressie into hospital (know I'll be in for at least 3 days as CS) so when DD comes into visit her baby brother he will have a pressie for her.
Is anyone else going to do this?

KazzaL · 14/11/2008 09:01

Morning Ladies

Markstretch that's exteremely organised, putting the rest of us to shame. My MIL is supposed to be coming to stay in Feb, but she has a new man and is behaving a bit like a teenager and so I hope she is not going to withdraw her offer as my mum wouldn't be able to cope if I had to ask her to come (neither could I if she had to stay for more than a couple of days )

my best friend in RL passed her due date yesterday with no sign of baby arriving - i'm so excited as we're already planning lots of day trips next summer with all the babies

was going to say something about something that was on the last thread towards the end, but can't remember now, but maybe it will come back to me.

DH is off work till a week monday now which means he's doing night duties with DS which is great - I;m starting to feel human again. Although I'm not overly imprssed about why he's off work using up holiday he paid extra for - He's a World of Warcraft (online computer game - I won't make any rude comments as I know TBM plays ) addict and the new expansion came out yesterday. I've told him he can play all day as long as he does all the jobs on the list I'll leave for him each morning, and then maybe some more once DS has gone to bed as long as I don't mind.

My new sink & tap for the kitchen came yesterday form screwfix - just hope I ordered the right things - still no sign of my nappies though

Hopes everyone has a good day today - sent DS off to nursery in his PJs and I can wear casual at work today - I do enjoy wathcing children in need, but end up drinking too many cups of tea due to the excessive frequency of the totals and the "how you can donate" slots. They need more celebs doing silly things

off to do some work now.........

KazzaL · 14/11/2008 09:03

yep I;m doing the pressie thing for DS from the new one - we got all the books that everyone suggested and he is reading them although I don't think he gets the idea about having a new baby. DH refused point blank on the doll & buggy idea, but I know DS does play with them at nursery. Hopefully seeing me with my friend's LO over the next few months will help.

KT1983 · 14/11/2008 09:06

Hello & good morning everyone

how you all feeling? I was having a very pregnant day yesterday - felt like rubbish, ached all over & my belly must have been having a growth spurt as I was getting pains all around lower abdominals & lower back...

But today on the other hand....I have just been for a 5mile run! and feel very impressed with myself

MarkStretch - You are extremely organised - Well done you.

I was reading my pregnancy books last night & it was going on about your hospital bag & what you need to take etc...
Im going to look like im going on a 2week holiday by the sounds of it!

idontbelieveit · 14/11/2008 09:08

morning all.

Am still bfing my 2.5 year old dd. She's having two or three feeds per week at the moment, i'm wondering what will happen once baby arrives and my milk comes back a bit. I'm pretty sure i'm just producing colostrum now but dd is insistent that there is milk still there. I'm feeling quite nostalgic that it won't be just me and her cuddling up in bad in the morning anymore but i'm hoping she won't mind sharing. She gave her baby doll "mummy milk" at the midwife appointment yesterday, lifted up her top to latch her on. It was very funny.

MarkStretch · 14/11/2008 09:20

Sorry, I woke up panicking about it this morning.

I know it would never happen but I worry about her being stranded!

Good idea about presents, will pop those in my hospital bag.

Anyone thought about packing THAT yet?

OP posts:
KT1983 · 14/11/2008 09:23

I was wondering when you should pack your hospital bag? Is 4 weeks before good enough?

TinkerBellesMum · 14/11/2008 09:53

I am indeed still feeding. Not regular though obviously, quite glad too as it does make me feel the contractions more for a little while afterwards. I feel terrible for saying it in a way but it's for the best, I know. There is a thread for those Pregnant and Nursing in the feeding section.

spotty and jennifer have a look into the support thread, you might get some tips there. I'm actually looking forward to tandeming, it's not like it will be literally tandeming all the time, but when it is at least I won't have to worry about keeping Tink occupied.

idontbelieveit the colostrum stage doesn't last long and you may find your older nursling takes a break or may like it and doesn't. I've heard two theories one is that being pregnant is like recharging your batteries so you start from scratch again and another is that the babies have different sucks so the older baby can get what they need too. I like the second one but what I know about how milk production works I think it's more likely to be the first.

I love this group! I go to antenatal class with EachPeachPearMum and she was saying January is very un-AP, I'm loving that I'm not the only one or weirdest

lol KazzaL I was commenting to a friend yesterday about sad people taking time off work just because there's a new expansion! TBH I would work on lower levels until after Christmas because everyone is playing Death Knights and leveling to 80. I have a Death Knight and it took me 6 hours over 13 hours to get it up 2 levels because the server wasn't coping. We have an MN guild now, BTW, it's called "AIBU". Trying to recruit as many WoW Widows Neglected Wives as possible!

MarkStretch for obvious reasons I'm packing this weekend. You need two bags really, one for labour and one for staying over. I would have the staying over one packed now in case you end up in hospital before then for something else (trust me, relying on a man to bring you clothes is not the best idea!) but I wouldn't leave the labour one too long - remember we all have viable babies now and viable babies will come when they're ready.

I'm putting the header and footer back on so we stop people dropping off the bottom or top.

KT1983 - very impressed at the 5 mile run ! I used to run loads before having DD, then just started to get back into it when I fell pregnant again. Felt too rough for running and what with all the walking I do to the nursery, station, work etc I figured I could get away with another year off!

Just a quick question - anyone's DD had thrush? It's all red "down there" and she everytime her nappy is off she scratches furiously (or gets Igglepiggle to scratch it!). Is there anything I can get over the counter for it, or is it another trip to the GP?

My cousin had a little boy last night so I'm looking forward to a tiny cuddle this weekend .

HAve a nice day all!

Morning all... Have had a busy old week and am knackered today.

KT a 5 mile run....you put us to shame woman, I'm not sure I could come with a 5 metre run at the moment !

I am 30 weeks today and starting to feel like I'm on the homeward stretch.

MS your list for your friend sounds very comprehensive.

For those with toddlers who are planning to BF, I learnt to feed DS3 in a sling , so I could feed whilst getting on with other things. I think it probably depends on your baby/norkage and sling configuration, but it was a bloody godsend. We still had lots of nice chilled feeding time, but when DS2 needed attention it was less stressful.

Aargh - just typed huge message then it got deleted by computer.

Markstretch - include your GP's number and the labour ward no (and visiting hours on post natal ward) just in case. Also dont forget to include DD's present to DS in there.

KT - would do it slightly before 4 weeks (one thing out the way then). You dont need everything in the pregnancy books (remember reading one that suggested taking ina bottle of champagne!) - just take enough for a couple of days for you and your baby. DH can always bring more stuff in at visiting time anyway. Top tips - flip flops for showers, dettol wipes for bathrooms, lanisoh, arnica tablets and your own pillow.

MOS, THOM - there are LOADS of mums still breastfeeding older ones on this thread. Am really impressed by all of you. DS gave up breastfeeding at 17 months - was sad as would have carried on for longer if he wanted to, but glad I dont have the tandem feeding worries too.

Did end up going out in the end last night - was lovely, saw friends hadnt seen in 4 years ~(they moved to the Cayman Islands - briefly back in the UK before heading out to Cambodia to do voluntary work) - was lovely catching up and had some yummy thai food to boot.
