chilledmama · 15/11/2008 18:50

I have just ordered a memory foam mattress for my bed...looking forward to a comfortable nights sleep when it arrives!!!

How are we all??

mumoverseas · 15/11/2008 19:15

right, off to airport for shitty night flight! flying BMI laidback. Used to fly Emirates but its a real pain in the arse as have to fly to Dubai first (1 1/2 hours in wrong direction) then 3 hours in Dubai before UK connection. The only advantage is Emirates then fly to LGW which is 10 mins from home as opposed to LHW which is a pain. Oh well, don't care, thank god BMI isn't a dry airline (saudi arabian airlines is!) so will have just the one glass of wine for the journey! I flew when 24 weeks pregnant with DD and got asked about 6 times how many weeks I was. I'm only 25 now and technically don't need a doctors letter but have one anyway, just in case. The old, if I've got it I don't need it theory!
ooh, chilledmama, that mattress sounds nice, would kill for one of those tonight! I guess one bonus is that I'm not sleeping much anyway so I probably won't get much less sleep than normal!
Catch you all in the good old UK! If I'm not on for a few days its coz I'm too busy stuffing myself with bacon baguettes! x

swampster · 15/11/2008 19:16

I want memory foam! My bump hurts, I have lower back pain. I am a wreck.

I CRAVE spinach and kale - I'm fairly sure when I get the results of my latest blood test they will show that I am even more anaemic than usual.

thehouseofmirth · 15/11/2008 19:23

Swampser , it might be Calcium rather than iron you are needing. Apparently spinach is a good source of that but it's an old wives' tale about the iron. Of course, if you are worried about iron then it wouldn't do any harm to have a very big bar of dark chocolate, would it?

swampster · 15/11/2008 19:24

I am eating a VERY chocolatey brownie made bh DH as I type!

thehouseofmirth · 15/11/2008 19:26

So what vital vitamin or mineral deficiency do you think has just made me eat an entire packet or Malted Milk biscuits?!

herbgarden · 15/11/2008 19:35

spotty - can you tell me more re private room thing? I'm a solicitor as you may already know and I have my c-section booked now. They can't always guarantee you a room at the hospital (I suspect standard nhs policy) so it's first come first served but the thought of being in there for 3 days anyway is bad enough but it was lovely having privacy last time and peace and quiet with new baby. When I was in for a night just after my waters broke (and then went home again) - I didn't sleep due to the snoring women - I don't think one baby cried !.....but did at least get some kip in the room on my own. I also don't particularly want to make polite conversation with people I'll never meet again (sounds miserable but I just can't be arsed)....

It's a standard sat night in the herb house - strictly, x factor - dh cooking dinnner and then early bed !. Yay.

spottyshoes · 15/11/2008 19:37

3 Dark Chocolate Magnums over here
I'm claiming a calcium deficiency too!

thehouseofmirth · 15/11/2008 19:41

I thought most post natal wards don't like c-section mums being in private rooms as they can't keep as much of an eye on you?

spottyshoes · 15/11/2008 19:51

Basically tell them what you do and ask for a private room at your appointment prior to the CS. (36 wks consultant?) It can't hurt to ham up that you have concerns about being on a ward because of your job and clients that could be in there. They will mark it on your file.

I was so stressed out from about 12 weeks when I found out that a Service user's gf was due around the same time (DH had also arrested them both on several occassions) that that was what prompted me to want my HB - I hadn't considered one before. When I explained my fear I was told by several MW/Consultants that it is standard practice to give rooms to people in 'our line of work'. Post CS I was ready to be moved down to maternity at around 11pm but they kept me in recovery until 8am as they were moving someone out of 'my' room.

mslucy · 15/11/2008 22:34

I'm impressed you're all thinking about hospital bags.

All I can think about is the most rip roaring indigestion. My guts are on fire.

Swampster - have been craving spinach for ages and have eaten it almost every day since the early days.

Starting to have sugar cravings now - think I must really need the extra calories.

Mince pies are definitely the answer.

TinkerBellesMum · 15/11/2008 23:06

LOL mslucy, I've got a good excuse at least but I'm probably making people a little nervous about being ready - must apologise if I am.

I'm a big fan of Kendal for indigestion (although my local shop has sold out so I'm considering getting it online). I break it into pieces and suck on it, also helps with the sugar cravings.

laidbackinengland · 16/11/2008 08:09

I have a strange craving for hazelnut yoghurts....I haven't eaten one since the 1980's, but maybe it's time to re-aquaint myself ? TBM I haven't eaten Kendal mint cake since brownie camp.

Rosie - hope you had a fantastic wedding day yesterday and that it all went according to plan. Pictures please

Swamp I bought a very good value memory foam mattress from ebay for my spare room for about £129. All the guests that have slept on it RAVE about it and think it must have been v. expensive like the tempur ones.

Does anyone with kids remember Sunday morning lie ins ? Those without, rack em up before February, they are the last you will see for the next 12 years !!!!

mslucy · 16/11/2008 08:20

not nervous - just a bit disorganized. TBM - you aren't making any of us nervous, don't be nuts!

I have loads on with work for the next month or so and I'm just forcing myself to get through it.

The plan is to slack off completely after Xmas, though because I'm self employed, I still may do the odd thing. Must fill in maternity benefits form for same reason, as I know it takes a while to come through.

Starting to feel completely knackered - fell asleep yesterday afternoon, which is something I never do.

Will try to take it easy today. Am very pleased because we took ds's nappy off last night and he didn't wet the bed. I am very proud of him.

thehouseofmirth · 16/11/2008 08:48

LBIE that's so depressing about the lie-ins. Haven't had one for he last 3 years now have to wait another 12 years by which time I will be so old that I'll be doing that old lady thing of getting up at 6.30am anyway!

I'm stil craving (and resisting) sweet sherry...

littleboyblue · 16/11/2008 09:31

Morning all. I'm exhausted today, trying to get the strength and courage to go tescos. Ds is gonna have a grumpy day today too. Why do they always pick the worst times to have one of those days. I could get into bed and stay there for the rest of my life!

dinkystinky · 16/11/2008 10:44

Morning all - logging in briefly from mum & dad's while they entertain DS (with Charlie & Lola and cake) and DH (with papers). Had my indian "feed the mum to be with as much food as you possibly can and give her nice presents" celebration last night which was lovely and have picked up all DS's old stuff to take back to london with us - the mini is packed to bursting!

Littleboyblue - lovely to see you back! Hope all good with you.

THOM - most impressed you're still resisting the sweet sherry cravings - you've been having those for ages now.Hmm, hazelnut yoghurt - havent had one of those in years but will be hunting them down in supermarket near you soon!

MOS - hope you are having a safe flight home and have a world of bacon waiting for you when you arrive back in your house.

Re private rooms - only way I managed to get one last time round was by basically having had ENOUGH and bursting into tears in front of the head midwife [FIRST TIMERS LOOK AWAY NOW - not posting this to scare you, I was just really unlucky after a combination of things conspired against me] after a difficult birth and killer stitches, NO pain relief given or offered to me for 3 days, son I had to wheel down to special care every 4 hours as the midwives were too busy/lazy to do it, ward being dismantled around me and being moved wards half way through stay to a cubicle 1/3 the size of a normal one that wasnt even big enough to put DS's plastic crib in. It was lovely in the private room, purely because I escaped the chaos outside - fortunately got to go home the next day too as they needed the room . Otherwise they were talking about keeping me in for another 48 hours...

dinkystinky · 16/11/2008 10:46

P.s. Pinkspottywellies - come join us! Doesnt matter if you dont regularly post - the more the merrier!

Swampster - cant believe you're still feeling awful. I think you definitely need a memory foam mattress as a matter of urgency! Or maybe you could use all those lovely soft real nappies you've bought for the little one to sleep on instead...

mumoverseas · 16/11/2008 11:07

morning all and hello from good old blighty! woo hoo! Landed around 6am and got back to house around 7.45am which wasn't too bad. Am now sitting here looking out of the window anxiously for a sign of the tescos delivery man (with all my pork!) bloody starving now as needless to say the food on the plane was inedible and our local little convenience food shop has decided to shut for a re-fit. Very inconsiderate. My Tescos shop was to be delivered between 11am and 1pm so I need positive 'bring home the bacon vibes please'!
DH seems quite 'up' for me thinking of having baby here and is going to approach his manager about maybe working from home (UK) for a month! Mind you, reading about private rooms etc reminded me that it is guaranteed in Saudi! one positive I guess. Hope everyone has a relaxing Sunday

mslucy · 16/11/2008 11:12

house is beautifully and unnaturally quiet.
dh has taken ds to the "train shop" (hamleys) as a reward for a dry night.

I have just hoovered and washed the kitchen floor.

The window cleaner is here and removing two years worth of grime from the windows

I am not going to worry for a few minutes...

aaaahhhh.

dinky. love the idea of the mum to be feast.
does it involve curry?

laidbackinengland · 16/11/2008 11:49

Mos hope your bacon has arrived ?

spottyshoes · 16/11/2008 12:02

Hope you're enjoying a bacon sarnie as we 'speak' MOS! Welcome back

Just been to a local play farm and had a lovely time with DS. I feel like I haven't spent any time with him for ages and have just been dragging him round everywhere after me all week poor thing. Shopping and looking after sick rellies cant be much fun for a toddler! Anyhoo he has been full of squealy little boy delight all morning and is now conked out in his cot - Success!

Mmmmmm Indian feast - gotta convince my family to throw me one of those!

mumoverseas · 16/11/2008 12:39

It worked! Thank you ladies! It arrived about half an hour ago and just had yummy bacon & brie baguettes and DD had chipolatas with spaghetti hoops (can't get those in Saudi either!) I love home delivery! Just ploughing through my post and am very excited by the M & S christmas food brochure!
BTW, what are these lie in things you have been talking about?
the farm sounds fun spottyshoes, am looking forward to some normal stuff like that (if it isn't too cold) can't really do zoos in Saudi as they have stupid rules like men only or women only days, you can't actually go as a family. Idiots!

MarkStretch · 16/11/2008 15:32

Hi all

I am knackered. We went to the gig last night and stayed at my Dad's. We had a lie in until 9.30am but we didn't go to bed until 2am so it kind of cancelled it out!

Then went to my mum's to pick up dd and came home, had cups of tea and chocolate brownies and now going to lie on the sofa until it's time to bath dd.

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
