June, my NCT tutor suggested perineal massage, so DH and I dutifully tried it. If the sight of him looking a bit dubious with a bottle of olive oil on the bedside table wasn't enough to put me off, the sensation of having my sensitive ahem parts stretched hither and thither with slippery fingers meant I lasted about 20 seconds before ending the session. He was most relieved.I did tear very very slightly because I pushed too hard when DD crowned - ouch - and the same tear re-opened with 9lb 7oz DS - double ouch - but in both cases I wasn't aware of it at all at the time and it healed naturally and quickly - better than episiotomy scars which still trouble many of my friends.

If you're game for a giggle it might be worth a try but I just couldn't face it!

chocciedooby · 19/12/2008 12:14

HI everyone. Still struggling to keep up with this thread so just reading as much as I can and popping on to say hi.
Perineal massage - hurt like hell when I tried it for DS1 (must have been doing it wrong). Had episiotomy with him. No massaging with DS2 and old scar tore open again. Not going to try massaging tbh. Hardly have time to blow my nose sometimes than have time for that. More than likely will tear again but hey ho.
Used disposable naies for both DS's. I remember changing my brother and sisters terry nappies years ago and it was horrible. (please don't give out to me). I am going to make my life as easy as possible and use disposables again ( I can hear some of you screaming at me).

llynnnn · 19/12/2008 12:22

i never heard of perineal massage when i had dd, you girls arent selling it to me though so think i might give it a miss!!

June2009 · 19/12/2008 12:24

omg just looked it up a bit more on the intenet and saw some (terrifying) pics. I don't think I can do it. I hope the pelvic floor exercises help :S
Please forget I even mentionned it.
That's it, no more internet for me

Tee2072 · 19/12/2008 12:31

june Step away from Google!!

choccie I don't think anyone here will scream at you. I really do think its a personal choice, and there are lots of other ways to help the human race. If I choose disposables, and I really am leaning that way, I will refuse to feel guilty about it.

I am especially leaning that way because one site I read said you pour the nappy soaking bucket into the washer...only I have a front loader, so how would that work? Sounds like a big mess and hassle to me!

Had the 12 week scan yesterday - was so exciting! Desperate craving for Quavers crisps today so promptly consumed 3 bags! Healthy eating has so gone out of the window - a bag of salad is enough to have me reaching for the Galaxy...again! Oh dear!

daisy5 · 19/12/2008 16:38

Fabbo Cote - that's great news. Now you can have a lovely relaxing enjoyable Christmas.

June2009 · 19/12/2008 16:39

CoteDAzur aww, that's really good, you must be so please

I'm gutted at the moment. My dad, who is supposed to come on Tuesday for xmas holiday, has just told me he has gastric flu and may not be able to come because he might still be contagious. Just checked with my doctor who said he should be free from symptoms for a good 48 hours if he is to come, otherwise he should probably stay away.

llynnnn · 19/12/2008 17:09

Cote - great news!! so so pleased for you!

June - sorry to hear about your Dad, I hope he makes it. Maybe he could delay it just a couple of days and you could have a special second christmas with him (we did this a few years ago when I was so so poorly with an evil bug on xmas day, everyone else enjoyed having 2 christmasses!)

Diddlie - congrats on your great scan. I too am not eating as healthily as I should be!! I keep taking the pregnacare and kidding myself that thats as good!

Tee2072 · 19/12/2008 19:48

Great news cote!!

chocciedooby · 19/12/2008 21:24

Tee that sounds grim about tipping in the soak bucket! How yuk and wouldn't work with front loaders which is pretty much what everyone has these days isn't it?!
Definately using disposables again. Still am at night with DS2 anyway .
I do quite a bit for the environment in many other ways so not going to feel guilty. You are right Tee.
Cote congratulations on your amnio results. So pleased all is well for you. A lovely boy as well....
june sorry to hear about your dad. Hope he gets better soon so you can all have some quality christmas time together.
I am now getting more and more curious about the sex of our baby. I have sworn not to find out at the 20 week scan but dh really wants to. I am only 14+1 so have some time to keep thinking.
Is anyone else getting very thirsty? I had my bloods tested and all was clear; no diabetes etc; don't even need iron supplements.

June2009 · 19/12/2008 22:29

choccie I'm with you on the thirst side, can't quench it. I wake up 5 or 6 times at night and I drink almost 1L...

chocciedooby · 20/12/2008 08:34

wow June thats a thirst! I'm thirsty during the day but thankfully it is not waking me up in the night. I occasionally have to wake for the toilet though

Tee2072 · 20/12/2008 09:46

june I don't want to be an alarmist, but have you been tested for Gestational Diabetes? Being that thirsty is a sign, I'm afraid!

Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday! I've sent DH off to do the grocery shopping while I sit on the couch and read Mumsnet! Pregnancy is a great excuse for so.many.things!

June2009 · 20/12/2008 10:21

Tee I don't know wether that was on the list of things they tested me for, the midwife took 4 little bottles of blood the first time I saw her and she said the results will be in my notes which I get after my 20 weeks scan. The other midwife is due to call me in the next couple of days so I'll bring it up with her.

Tee2072 · 20/12/2008 10:26

That's not how they test for it, its a pee test, so probably not! I would definitely talk to them about it!!

LittleSarah · 20/12/2008 11:08

Reusable nappies - I used them for first 3/4 months with dd. (Used bambino mio) Didn't find them a problem at all, nor disgusting or difficult to clean. I wouldn't want to do it if I had to go back to work but being around during the day made it simple enough. I did give up as I was poor and couldn't manage to afford going up a size, they are good value but you need to have a chunk of cash to get a bulk lot every now and then. I'm going to try and use them again this time but I'm not saying for how long!

I did some perineal massage but v little and did not tear, I drank raspberry leaf tea and di not tear... however I doubt it made any difference!! I'll do it again just in case. I like to think my yoga helped, but again was probably just luck of the draw.

Cote - Great news about your amnio, and very exciting to be having a boy! And congrats to Diddle! June - So sorry to hear about your dad, I hope it works out.

WelshChristmas · 20/12/2008 15:51

Hi, would you ladies mind if I joined you on here pls ?

Went for my 12 week scan on Thursday which confirmed I am now 12+5 today and am therefore due 29th June but due to medical reasons will be having this bubba at 38 weeks so I guess it'll take me to more or less 15th ?? June ( or thereabouts ).

Already have a DD of nearly 6 years who is desperate for this little brother or sister but have to admit I'm extremely anxious this time around which is starting to drive me slightly potty !! Always panicking at twinges, pains etc. Is anybody else out there feeling the same way ??

Tee2072 · 20/12/2008 15:53

Hi welshchristmas and welcome!

Sorry you're feeling so panicky about stuff. I'm actually very laid back about this, even though its my first. Every twinge I feel I just tell myself 'oh, baby needs more room!'

WelshChristmas · 20/12/2008 16:01

Hi Tee, This is the weirdest thing...I was exactly like yourself with our first baby and totally chilled so don't know where this paranoia has appeared from .

Anyway, at least with christmas shortly I'll have less time to think about things. I am enjoying the pregnancy though, apart from the constant nausea which has eased off slightly this week but still lingering

June2009 · 20/12/2008 16:06

Tee2072 The mw did a urine test as well then, but they didn't say what for either.

I've found my experience with GP, mws and sonographers very vague and slow tbh, sometimes I wish I could afford private.

I'll definitely ask the new mw next week.
She's the one I was worried would have a stong accent but I called her yesterday and understood almost everything she said so I think we'll be all right ;)

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 21/12/2008 08:50

Good morning all!

Had a rubbish night's sleep and then DS was up and crying after a nightmare at 6am (he always sleeps in til gone 7am on DH's early morning shift.... grr... Anyway, off to have my hair cut this morning, so a bit of pampering and an afternoon nap will do the trick, I think.

How is everyone? Excited for Christmas? Saw my nan yesterday and had my first Christmas dinner (was on the Shloer!). DH has 'broken up' for xmas til the 5th of Jan so lots of hands-on with DS for two weeks... yey! It feels great to be able to share the load, as it were...

Wish my bump would become a lot more rounded. At the moment, I definitely have a large tum, but it's still looking like that, and not a bump. I can't wait til it's all firm and round like last time. It's nice to feel the little one moving now tho....

Merry Sunday xx
