sweetbroody I was diagnosed with Type II 2 years ago and have controlled completely with diet until I became pregnant. I now use insulin. I hope you've been referred to a high risk clinic like I have.

I haven't even had my booking in yet, but I've seen a endocrinologist 3 times already and am in close contact with the diabetes nurses about my BG and insulin needs.

I have also been going hypo every couple of days, but I use them as an excuse to have some crisps! Bad Tee!!

flynn1984 · 26/11/2008 18:39

Evening all!

To everyone who's had scans hope they went well and those with scans coming up enjoy and good luck.

My next scan isn't until 10th Dec so sometime to wait, I'll be 13 weeks then. Also have my due date after last week's early scan so I have updated the list.

I'm away to Dublin tomorrow morning so will catch up with everyone on Saturday when I return...hope everyone with ms feels better soon (after 4 weeks of it I'm really better now )

Tee Yeah - I do that I save all the goodies I crave for a moment when I need them - recently it was cornflakes which I havent had in ages.. HAve they put you on metformin as well?

I get seen really regualrly as well... and the last scan I had went really well..

The baby is gonna have a heart scan in December thats the one I am worried about - I hope my control was good when I conceived.. I dont think people realise how diff a pregnancy with Diabetes can be!

Its so stressfull - and you constantly worry... :S how ar eyou doing though?

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 18:42

StrawberrySam was reading your psoting on the bleeding - its strage but I have had the same experience - and the bleeding seems to have stopped with the constipation.. surely it must be linked??

How are you doing now?

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 18:45

Tee the hospital has been really good about looking after my sugars etc.. and I am trying really hard to control it well - Would like to avoid a Csection if I can...

What control have they told you to keep?

Mine needs to be below 7.8 one hour after a meal..

joyfuleyes · 26/11/2008 18:50

Just updating the list Had my dating scan last week and they've moved me up a few days. I'm 13+5 now & still feeling extremely sick.

Tee2072 · 26/11/2008 19:50

sweetbroody My levels are 3.5 - 5.5 before meals and under 8 one hour after. And I'm only on insulin. My endo doesn't 'believe' in oral meds with pregnancy. He thinks its much better to get good control with insulin alone.

Also, there is a diabetes in pregnancy thread, if you want to be on that one also!! linky!!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 26/11/2008 20:28

Hurrah! Got to meet the little bean at last! My scan took ages too as s/he's an active little thing and wouldn't get in the right position! The sonographer kept apologising and I kept telling him that he could take as long as he liked as I could watch it all day! It's so weird as I know I've been through this before but it's just as exciting this time, in some ways even more so.....

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 26/11/2008 20:31

That's great Ineed!! Mine was being a total wiggle worm yesterday during my scan and I had the same reaction!

Can't wait for my 12 week scan, so I can see something more than a blob!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 26/11/2008 20:38

Thanks Tee. It's so great seeing it isn't it?

P.S. Forgot to say hi to the newbies.... Champagneforlunch I also suffer migraines. I take paracetamol and just go to bed; all day if I have to... there's nothing else you can do as I normally take codeine, but that's out of bounds (I think??).

Hope they improve. Go and see your GP if they continue, there might be something that you can take other than Paracetamol that's stronger...

OP posts:
Champagneforlunch · 26/11/2008 21:02

Ineedmorechocolatenow I've been told codine is ok while your pregnant, although never used it before I might need to get some soon.
Glad your scan was good, I had the worlds grumpiest woman doing mine she never even reminded us we needed to ask for a picture (i only noticed after the scan was over and the lights were on it was on an a4 piece of paper above the bed). I could hardly see anything but she assured me she saw a heartbeat although I was sure she was pointing to its head when she tried to point it out to me. I was lucky I'd had a scan at the EPU 3 weeks ago that was pretty clear but would have hated that to have been my first scan.

Innat · 26/11/2008 21:20

Congrats to all those with great scans. It's feeling more real now eh? And I feel your frustration for those of you still waiting!

Ineed I got some codeine from the docs the other week when i was suffering from an infection. he gave me a low dose (15mg) and said to start off taking one and have 2 if that wasn't working. I found they helped the pain but they did make me sleepy so might not be ideal if you need to be awake!

Has anyone who works decided when they are going to tell their boss they are pregnant? I'm dreading telling mine - not that i think there will be a bad reaction or anything - i just feel guilty. i know i shouldn't but i do. we're a small team and i know it will be difficult to arrange mat cover. So i want to give them some notice (i.e. before the legal 25 week limit) but not ready to yet.

Sorry for quite a long post. I don't get time to check this very often and then just rant a bit...but i love reading up on what everyone's been up to. it's good to know other people are having the same worries, emotional outbursts etc as me!

Tee2072 · 26/11/2008 21:31

innat I told my bosses about 2 weeks ago, and its a good thing I did because my doctor has signed me off work until at least the end of next week due to fatigue, my diabetes, some depression and nausea. Ain't pregnancy fun?!?!?!

I told them so early because with my diabetes I need to go to the clinic every fortnight and I couldn't figure out how to explain that except with the truth!

Innat · 26/11/2008 21:41

good point tee. Luckily i have had enough flexi time built up to take off for my appointments so far - and there aren't as many for me. i work part time and it's a bit of a bummer that our midwife appts are only on a thurs which of course is one of the days i work and i have a 45 min drive to get to work! my next one is the last appt at 4pm (not til jan) so not too bad but i don't find the nhs particularly flexible with these things!

bigcar · 27/11/2008 05:10

Morning all!

Guess what? Insomnia hasn't gone yet Finally gave in and got up, got a rotten headache. On the up side though, the nausea is finally starting to wear off a bit, coming and going now rather than permanent.

thanks I'm fine, just been busy what with the kids getting ready for all their christmas stuff going on at school, seems never ending at the moment. Didn't get my scan last friday morning got cancelled last thing thursday, could they change the time to 2.40, that was about as much use as a chocolate teapot to me, it doesn't take much to see I have school age kids! I wouldn't have minded so much if they had even tried to offer some sort of an apology rather than just treating me like an inconvenience. Soooo I'm off for my scan today I hope your dd was happily reunited with her iggle piggle.

It's lovely to hear everyones good news and hello to all the newbies Do you think there will ever be a time that we stop worrying? Maybe we should have called this the professional worriers thread

Tee2072 · 27/11/2008 08:14

Morning all!

Finally got a good nights sleep! Sorry to hear you didn't, bigcar.

So today is Thanksgiving in the US, so I am making the big dinner, being an expat and all! I was going to surprise OH with a nicely set table and a tidied front room but, the big butthead, he says to me as he's leaving for work 'so what are you doing today, other than tidying the front room and making the table pretty?!?!' So much for the surprise!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 27/11/2008 08:23

Happy Thanksgiving Tee! Sorry to hear that DH ruined your big surprise! Have a great day. Does it make you homesick?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 27/11/2008 08:48

It does a bit Ineed. I never get to go home for Thanksgiving because DH is a university teaching assistant and he can't get the time off to go with me in the middle of term.

I am thinking about leaving him home next year and going with the baby, but we'll see!

strawberrysam Call!!!!!!!!!! The staff at the EPAU are used to reassuring people, its their job!

We, as a human race, need to get over the fear of bothering people when we need something! I personally would rather look like a muppet than sit and worry myself to death!

Call!!!

Strawberrysam" you poor thing. I am also a worrier and I can totally understand your position. I think I would be inclined to call the mid-wife and get into the EPAU. Even if just for peace of mind. As tee* said, it is there job to reassure people.
