Gosh what a load of messages since this morning!!

Firstly a huge congratulations to Misdee, WAM4 and Browny - Misdee your labour/birth sounds just perfect quick and easy!!

Monkey I didn't realise you were a northern bird - but Burnley?? Really??? What a small world it is! Unfortunately my DH is a Burnley supporter (he is also born and bred in Burnley - it kills him that we now live in Blackburn lol) so I have had nothing but grief all day as you can imagine!! Last night was the first time they had played each other in the 14 years we have been together and, boy is he milking it today. Now, as I have told DH numerous times today, a defeat on penalties doesn't count

MonkeyMargot · 13/11/2008 16:23

LOL ceebee at your DH being a Burnley fan too - and living in Blackburn!
And whilst my DH insists a win on penalties doesn't really count, I couldn't care less - the result is all that matters to me!! Woo hoo (punches the air!)
Sounds like you had a smashing day - lucky you! I love the "last" lunch thing - we've had about, 6 or 7 "last" dinners so far. Gunning for another one tomorrow night (pref a hot curry or Thai).
Congrats Browny on the arrival of your LO!!!

chocolategal · 13/11/2008 16:49

ahh, it is not the day for successful sweeps!
wonder how barbareeba got on with hers?

congrats browny

ceebee and monkeym i think i too have had about 4 or 5 "last" meals out!
and i will be pushing for another tmw or saturday!!

went for a long walk today, to try and bring babys head down, then suddenly thought i dont really want to bring it down whilst he is back to back!
will concentrate on the turning bit then work on the head down bit!
or i will be a complete lazy arse and sit on the sofa all weekend!!

LadyBuzz · 13/11/2008 17:07

congratulations browny

LackaDAISYcal · 13/11/2008 17:13

Congratulations browny and welcome to your DD . Sounds like all is going swimmingly well for you!

DS slept from 9.30 until 2.30 today after his nightime/early morning feedathon. He's going to be up all night again ins't he?

Mack Harrison Orange, lovely name

DH has gone out to fetch a curry!
Come on full moon
DS and I are watching baby einstein to kill time.

If baby is born tomorrow do I have to call it Terry? or Pudsey?

MerryMarigold · 13/11/2008 18:22

Pudsey is quite a cool name, Yorky ...

How is everyone over here?

How are you MonkeyM and Yorky? MM, do you have an induction date that we can keep all fingers crossed you go before?

cricri · 13/11/2008 18:32

Congratulations to Misdee wow what a quick 2nd stage, wish mine had been that quick! What a lovely birth
Congratulations also to WAM4 and Browny
Sorry to hear about unsuccessful sweeps It's so frustrating.
MM Sending you lots of positive labour vibes before Tuesday. Hope the DIY sweeps work this weekend
Choc Lovely names
DW I agree with Choc, I was so pleased to be able to labour at home for as long as possible and although I was initially disappointed about having to transfer to hospital, looking back now there's no way I could have delivered DD at home as I was just too worn out after 4hrs of pushing. See how you get on and how you feel at the time. As far as your IMW is concerned, I'm surprised the hospital won't let her advocate on your behalf. That's what my doula did, both with the CMWs at home and at the hospital. Seems different hospitals have different policies (or should that be politics?!)
Hope the full moon works its magic and more babies appear tonight!

barbareebaa · 13/11/2008 18:34

Hello Ladies!!
I have just caught up with your posts but head a bit fuzzy so sorry if I forget anyone
WAM4 congratulations! - fabulous name!!
ChocO Really love your little boys name
browny Congratulations!!

So what happened to everyones sweeps??? I was hoping to compare notes??

I had one - and don't wish to sound like a drama queen but it fookin hurt and felt a bit violated after. The dr was not gentle and I was writhing in pain and the mw had to tell me to breathe. I was expecting something like a smear - I would never have had it done if I had known I do think I have a high pain threshhold so I don't know why I couldn't deal with it

My dh met me afterwards (left work early) and I'm so pleased cos I was a bit and now worried about what's coming.

So dr also told me that I would be having loads more of the same (vaginal examinations) during labour (sob) so I should get used to it (nice, sympathetic chap )

Also he told me I have to have an induction (I know!)So has booked me in for next Saturday.

So, excuse me but my day was bollox. Don't feel like I have any control over anything and am feeling worried about nasty drs.

But since I got back have had a pinky discharge (nice) But dr said cervix was still high so maybe that's why it hurt so much? Perhaps it was too soon?? Should it have been that painful????

Sorry to have done a monster post all about me - shouldn't it have been more like a smear than that? I'm confused.com

barbareebaa · 13/11/2008 18:36

Sorry - didn't mean to sound like about lack of sweeps!! Was meant to be jokey but looks grrr!!

lauraw78 · 13/11/2008 18:37

chocolategal · 13/11/2008 18:55

i came away from mine feeling crap too!
(see post)but after chatting to all the lovely ladies on here am feeling much better about things!
theres a few of us getting dates/talk about inductions so heres hoping none of us need them!!

congratulations lauraw78 look forward to hearing more about it

ChocOrange05 · 13/11/2008 18:56

Congrats Laura!!

Barb I am so on your behalf at your doc and the sweep - he sounds like a silly git. Why didn't the MW do it? IME the midwives have been very gentle.
I don't think they give you "loads" of internal examinations during labour - I only had 3 so don't take his word (and tbh during labour you really don't care).

Also - remember they can't force you to be induced, you can ask to be monitored instead which basically looks at the condition of the placenta and amniotic fluid to see if they are still sufficient for the baby (i.e placenta not broken down and amniotic fluid still enough). Because some babies just take longer than others 42 weeks isn't right for everyone. I am not an expert on this at all but you can ask to discuss monitoring instead of induction and that would help you make your decision. Good luck with whatever happens and I will have a howl at the moon for all you overdue ladies!

LackaDAISYcal · 13/11/2008 19:03

Congratulations Lauraw and welcome to your new DD . Can't wait to hear the full story.

barbs, your doc sounds bloody brutal . I think I was examined three times, once when I arrived, once at full dilation and then again by the doctor to see if they could use forceps or not....if I had pushed him out mysefl though I woouldn't have needed that third internal. they were a bit uncomfortable, but nothing compared to the pain of the contractions!!

MerryMarigold · 13/11/2008 19:13

BARBS , what doc did you see? Not sure who does a Thurs...

When I had ds1, I went in to book my induction (on my due date...I didn't need to be induced as he came 4 days later) and there was a very handsome, young South American doc who offered to do me a sweep. I said no thanks!!! Told dh about it...Then when I went in when my waters broke, it was the same doc, but dh was with me so it was ok!

cricri · 13/11/2008 19:16

Congratulations Laura, so pleased you got your hb - well done you
Barbs Your dr sounds really rough and horrible. Agree with Choc, mws are much gentler and hopefully during labour you won't need to see a dr. I had one VE to check how dilated I was during labour at home, performed by the CMW, and then another by the registrar at the hospital to see where baby's head was before he used the ventouse. By that point I really didn't care! Contractions were definitely much more painful and they also stop the VE during a contraction.
The pink discharge sounds positive though - fingers crossed the sweep has started something for you.

ceebee74 · 13/11/2008 19:44

Choc fab fab names and well worth the wait

Laura congrats on the birth of your new baby girl - can't wait to hear the details!

Barbs for you - I don't think sweeps are meant to hurt that much - just be uncomfortable I think. Again, with DS, I don't remember having many vaginal examinations or if I did, they certainly didn't hurt otherwise I would remember I am sure! Don't let it worry you as once you are in labour, it will be MW's doing it.

Daisy hope Fin doesn't stay awake all night for you!!

Hi to everyone else - nearly in the middle of Nov and I am sure we have had more than 50% of the babies

Just had a 'discussion' with DH about when MIL can come and visit in hospital. He decided that it would be good for him to pick DS up from nursery, meet his mum at our house and they all come in one car on Thursday afternoon (cs will be done in the morning) - however, I want him to come with DS on his own to introduce DS to the baby etc just as our little family - am I being precious about that?? I just want it to be a special time for us all without MIL being there - she can come later (even if it is half an hour later) or in the evening as my parents will be doing - I just want a little bit of time as the 4 of us before everyone else descends. What do you all think??
