yay Congratulations Misdee and hello baby Sophie!

sparkletoes · 13/11/2008 10:12

Barbs I would go to your chemist and see if you can get a minor ailments consultation with the pharmacist as you shouldn't have to buy anything over counter if covered by this scheme. Only thing i have heard of for this is Cantesten HC.

No idea about the sweep I'm afraid...

barbareebaa · 13/11/2008 10:22

Thanks Sparkle Will do that. Didn't realise you could get Gaviscon on presription either (have spent a fortune!!!)
Would never have occured that I wouldn't have to pay for the thrush stuff!

sparkletoes · 13/11/2008 10:24

Tell me about it I am forever forgetting that it is free! Get your baby registered when born too as you can get teething gel, paracetamol and all sorts of stuff easily and free! Even if you get a cold use it until you lose it!!

MonkeyMargot · 13/11/2008 10:28

Barb I'm sure that other posters on this thread had or thought they had thrush just prior to going into labour (possibly lacks ?) I wouldn't worry about them doing a sweep whilst you're suffering - I'm sure they've seen everything there is to see!
Lacks I'm calm now as I've resigned myself to worst case scenario - i.e. being medically induced next week. I was very glum on Tuesday after seeing MW, but now I'm trying the fatalistic attitude. What will be will be. And whilst a home birth is my ideal, so long as the baby is born healthy and happy, that is the end game after all!
I'm having a sweep today (so long as MW doesn't make more excuses) - if this doesn't work then we've tried everything!
Obs - you sound very sorted and organised - cooking curry indeed - good girl! Please send some round to my house .

sparkletoes · 13/11/2008 10:41

Excellent attitude Monkeym, I resigned myself in the same way last time around and well it worked - no need for induction! Not even trying this time as have strong feeling this one isn't ready to come on D Day!

Good luck for your sweep, await the outcome...

barbareebaa · 13/11/2008 10:42

monkeyMargot Are you getting a sweep today too? Hope it all goes well and does the trick!
Sparkle Gah!! Why do I not know this???? Thanks for telling me though - what do you mean by registered - with the dr or at the pharmacy (not being very bright atm)

sparkletoes · 13/11/2008 10:49

No you will register with GP too but just go to your Chemist and ask to register baby on Minor Ailments Scheme. You can only register at one chemist but just make sure it is your local one and that is all you need. Mine has purple leaflets on counter telling you all about it. The pharmacist then writes a prescription for you there and then.

Monkey having been in the same position as you - wanting a HB but facing the prospect of induction/hosp birth - I know how you're feeling. But whilst I got the "opportunity" to have my HB it did end in a hospital one and I have only positive things to say about the whole experience. (except the pain ).

Heartmum2Jamie · 13/11/2008 10:56

Barb I started with thrush last wed night, went to the gp thursday afternoon and was prescribed canesten cream, which I on;t had time to use twice. I had a sweep last Friday and went pretty much straight into labour. It was pretty horric timing but it all worked out ok.

Misdee Congratulations on the birth of Sophie!!

MonkeyMargot · 13/11/2008 11:15

choc - thanks for your wise words, and you too sparkle.
I am sure now you have your baby, how it actually arrived seems like something in the dim and distant past!
Will report progress later on the sweep. Thanks ladies!

lauraw78 · 13/11/2008 11:17

Still here, have had the midwife out, she's set the gas and air up ready for me, I have two cannisters here and she has another two in the car....get in =)

Contractions are still quite irregular, probably coming at least every 10 mins or so, also, if I get in certain positions they become more frequent......they bloody hurt, I had forgotten just how much and I'm not even near the worst of it....lol

Congrats Misdee, hope my 2nd stage is a quick one, as this first part really is taking its time!

Tinkerisdead · 13/11/2008 11:19

Hello folks... congrats to misdee on the rapid arrival of baby sophie. i was scanning the posts and first it was owwww im in labour and then congrats on your baby, i had to whizz back up the page! Sophie is on my list of names and im sure mines a girl, you wont hate me if i copy will you?

midwife came again yesterday, and she started looking grave about back to back. i said my friend ChocOrange on the net was in the get me the fxxking drugs camp, she said "hmmmmmm, what would you like me to do when you say that to me?" i said christ dont ask me for a code word or i'll use it willy nilly!! she then got a massive piece of material from her car, got me on all fours on the carpet and straddled me, put the material on the bump and jiggled me. Didnt bloody turn it though. i starting to shit myself frankly, Im not naive, ive had minor contractions already which have resulted in nothing but i thought my back would explode. feels like the baby is pushing out of my mum.

so my blood pressure is still high and im looking at a back to back labour the birth pool is looking more and mmore like a piece of useless old rubber rather than my dream nest!!

ChocOrange05 · 13/11/2008 11:22

Monkey I don't even remember being pregnant now - life is soooo different its unbelievable!

Tinkerisdead · 13/11/2008 11:24

pushing out of my bum not my mum...wish my mum could do it for me but then i'd be on jeremy kyle...

MonkeyMargot · 13/11/2008 11:33

LOL Drswife at Jeremy Kyle analogy! Is that normal for your MW to straddle you? I feel like I've missed out now!!
Just about to jump in the car to go to hospital (very weird as haven't been there since 20 week appt), and just wanted to say, Ceebee are you hiding? Because your top-of-the-Premiership side Chelsea got knocked out of the Carling Cup by my Championship side, the mighty Burnley ?!!! Long may you hide my girl - this news has cheered me up no end!!!

sparkletoes · 13/11/2008 11:33

Every 10 mins sounds pretty regular to me Lauraw! good luck!

Hi DocW my scan yesterday showed I was right and baby no longer back to back. I felt it turn last week after I did the age old trick and cleaned my porch (read porch NOT porche haha!).

Have also been going about on all fours for at least 30 mins a day (playing with DS!). Didn't actually expect it to work but it seems it has... Could slip back round again I suppose so then be relying on strong contractions to turn it.

one handed typing as cant bear to pop sophie down. have just woken up, peters gone to the bakery to get lunch and to pick up his mum (she cant drive as has a broken foot).

well i woke up at 2 am niggling, then had a small leak. so small i wasnt sure until i wiped and it was slightly pink. so walked around for a bit to see what was happening. yup def in labour. so called mat unit to let them know. pains every 2-3 mins, lasting 1min. midwife got here at 3am and set up. she called for 2ndmidwife at 5, who got here at 6. iwas switchiung vetween standing leaning on the wall (i cant bear human contact when in labour so dh knows its hands off, not even shoulder rubs) and resting on the sofa. i started on gas and air at 6-ish as well. just before 7am i was 8cm dilated, but the next contraction put me to 10cm and pushing began which i had no control over at all, was body taking over. two pushes for head and one for body. sophie was born at 7.07am, put straight onto me and had her first breastfeed soon after. my others girls came in soon after for cuddles and kisses. my mum arrived at 7.30 to take over big girl care and take them to school.

sophie is a little snuffly and cold so is wrapped up but tight against my chest.

cant believe i did it at home and she is soooo chunky. looks a bit like dd1, but not overly so. not as much hair as middle two, but very dark as usual.

sparkletoes · 13/11/2008 11:39

That sounds like a perfect birth Misdee (if such a thing exists!) well done you!!

Sophie will be thinking ok I got the milk so where is my cardie?! Mum probably better right now tho!

So happy for you.

LackaDAISYcal · 13/11/2008 11:45

and the length of the hair misdee?....don't forget to measure and update your sweepstake thread . Congrats again and enjoy snuggling up with her.

Go Laura.....will look out for your news later

MonkeyM, are you from up North, supporting Burnley? My uncle lives in Paddiham.

barbs, get the thrush sorted ASAP. I obviously had thrush when DS was delivered which is how he got it, poor thing, and it gave us no end of trouble getting the BF off to a good start.

misdee · 13/11/2008 11:45

she is wearing white knitted cardy lol,

Tinkerisdead · 13/11/2008 11:47

monkey dont think its normal to be straddled with material hooked round us no. I said "thank god i know you, and your not some community midwife" she said, if i was the community midwife, you'd be in hospital being induced for high blood pressure. So i kept gob shut and let me astride!!!

misdee that sounds like an absolutely perfect birth.... i will focus on that.

sparkle ive been cleaning on all fours, rotating hips on birth ball, sitting for 12 hours in high back chair jigsawing..nothing is working!! im so tempted to pay for a scan to see exactly what the situation is in there!!

WifeandMotherof4 · 13/11/2008 11:58

I had my baby Artemus Somerset on the 3rd, he's in regular 2-3 hourly feeds, burps instanty and is blooming lovely. As my name suggests he is my fourth.

WifeandMotherof4 · 13/11/2008 11:59

ps. He was my fourth section adn I have to return to hospital after a suspected dural tap which gave me a week long headache and a scar that is quite hidous and will need superficial surgery to correct. That said knife to skin to birth was less than two minutes and as they had suspected complications it was pretty good going.

LackaDAISYcal · 13/11/2008 12:00

Hi WaM4...we have a postnatal thread if you want to come and join in the chat over there......(could someone link please?)

Congratulations on your No 4. I love the name
