Here's a new thread for us all lovely Dec Mums!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LadyThompson · 11/11/2008 11:15

Yes, Katie - I am very grateful for my impending DD and that I have got this far, but late pregnancy is a particularly unlovely phase imo. I'm not envisaging the post-birth period is much of a rose garden either, but at least we will have little babies to take our minds off everything (spot the naive first timer). Given that a billion frillion people have kids every day, you wouldn't think it would be such a struggle. But it is! Well, I find it so. And the way the hormones mess with your head...[shudders]

JollyBear · 11/11/2008 11:16

Hello everyone,

Sorry to hear about your driving test ladyT. It is frustrating to have failed on such a minor point. I'll echo what others have said about all the best drivers failing first time though .

arti It sounds like you have just had enough of work. I know you don't want to leave things unfinished but you need to stop asap. I wouldn't worry about crying in front of your boss one bit. You are a heavily pregnant, stressed, poorly, overworked woman who needs to be in bed not slogging at the office.

mibbes Your massage sounds lovely. I'm very envious of all those who have started maternity leave. Roll on the 28th November...

to all those who are going through the mill at the moment. I hope everyone who is suffering from lack of sleep, colds, family illness etc, feels better soon.

LadyThompson · 11/11/2008 11:17

It was Indith who mentioned your brother in tights Veggie but I cannot deny that it also crossed my own mind. Men's legs are GOOD. I prefer looking at them to my own, which are not good right now.

Veggiemummy · 11/11/2008 11:18

oh and SL- we have a DVD series which my mum bought for DS called great british steam railways, or something like that. It is some trainspotter who went around the UK and went on all the currently working steam railways and filmed them and talked about their history in a really boring monotone voice. DS loves them. Your DH is what my DS is going to become, please tell me it'll be ok, your DH doesn't have slicked down hair, bucked teeth and has a pocket notebook on his person at all times to take down the numbers of passing trains does he...please reassure me, i'm scared for my son's future.

Veggiemummy · 11/11/2008 11:24

legs yes, bottoms definately, oh dear i am so badly hormonal at the mo i seem to have swapped tears for lust!!!!

SummerLightning · 11/11/2008 11:33

veggie he looks quite normal, but he is definitely a bit of a geek! He doesn't have a pocket notebook, maybe I should check out he doesn't have a trainspotters list on his geeky phone that he's always scribbling in!! He also loves planes, helicopters and has a geeky encylopaedic knowledge of the London Underground. As long as your DS is happy in his geekiniess that is the important thing hey? At least you will still love him . (My DH would be mortified if he knew I was telling a bunch of strangers how geeky he is!)
That DVD series sounds awful!

Re hot men, I got in trouble for saying DH's gay friend's new boyfriend is really fit! He is though, it's not just my hormones...

Veggiemummy · 11/11/2008 12:07

i thought it was ok to comment on fit gay guys cos they are definitely no threat, and besides we are large and feeling unattractive, surely we can be allowed to comment on other peoples desirability.

LadyThompson · 11/11/2008 12:17

Ahhh, the single most flattering moment in my entire life relates to a gay man

jumpjockey · 11/11/2008 12:25

Good to see there's some perking up on the thread - a good bit of lusting always helps raise the spirits

LT alas one of the least flattering moments of my life involves a gay friend - He was going through a confused phase at college, we ended up in his room very drunk after a party, he was deflowered (very willingly I hasten to add, perhaps the booze speaking!) and then decided afterwards that nope, he was definitely gay. He's remained my best bloke mate from college even after all that!

mmm veggie I like the sound of ogling ballet dancers. mmmm legs and bums. DH has got thighs of marble, no idea how as he doesn't really do much exercise, must be genetic as apparently his mum was voted best ankles in Glasgow uni in her time so the nipper should at least have good legs. I used to cox at a high level and this involved lots of blokes in lycra in the summer and even in winter when they were training on the ergs, it got too hot so they'd peel off down to their waists [droooool], I learned soooo much about male anatomy (ahem) through my relentless leching of them all. The flare out of a latissimus dorsi at the catch of the stroke is a thing of great beauty.

jumpjockey · 11/11/2008 12:28

btw if anyone's still got bits and bobs to stock up on, mothercare has just emailed a code through for 10% off everything - it's EAB8. might help someone

LadyThompson · 11/11/2008 12:28

JJ

SummerLightning · 11/11/2008 12:31

jj at your gay conversion attempt!!
Well done for trying, tee hee

I can never figure out whether I like men in lycra or not, I do a lot of cycling, and sometimes it is just a bit Too Much. Especially the local time trials with all those men in full lycra body outfits and pointy helmets looking very serious.

I think rowers might be better though (less scrawny arms)!

LadyThompson · 11/11/2008 12:33

On the theme of light relief, and speaking of Mothercare, on Saturday I picked up some of those Christmas cards in there with a gap to stick a photo in for interested relatives. I also bought a reindeer suit to put DD in and I am planning to pose the poor child against a cream fake fur for said Christmas snap It is the sort of thing I thought I would never do and would have mocked others roundly for so doing. Which makes me laugh all the harder.

SummerLightning · 11/11/2008 12:35

Just make sure you don't lose the orignal ladyT sounds excellent for blackmail purposes when she gets older.

Veggiemummy · 11/11/2008 12:36

i think it is the man in the gear SL, at triathlons i am always having a little oggle and many have muscles but still it's just all wrong then others look amazing. I have to say my fav part of the men going first is while us ladies are waiting for our race to start we watch all the boys come out of the water all pumped up and removing their wetsuits nnniiiiiicccceeeeee.

gotta go it's time for DS nursery & my yoga i've been off for 2 weeks so really looking forward to it.

jumpjockey · 11/11/2008 12:38

LT that's wonderful. Many years ago I spotted a christmas pudding outfit - just the head and hands and feet stuck out - in woolies and had I known I'd have had a baby at the right time of year should have bought it. Dang, what a missed opportunity!

LadyThompson · 11/11/2008 12:42

JJ, I think Mothercare have Christmas Puddings. And Snowmen suits. I know it's very wrong but if you can't be kitsch at Christmas, when can you? They even do them in a a size for preemie babies, which I find amazing! (Watch me come badly unstuck when she screams her head off and the photo session ends in mayhem)

lal07 · 11/11/2008 12:52

Verso hope you get your nanny sorted out - sounds essential. Can understand frustration of not getting promised for respite. Can remember thinking I couldn't possibly cope when DH had to work late when I'd been counting down the hours till he got home.

Indith what's the new guidance on medised? Eek - have to say it's a bit of a lifesaver with DS, he gets quite bad coughs and medised seems to be the only thing that relaxes him enough to sleep for a bit.

Am sorry this is such a lame post - so much to catch up on! Hope your meeting goes ok Arti. Think it's important to be as kind to yourself as possible at this stage of pg. Second recommendation of cowshed for massages - I dread to think how much I spent there towards the end of last pg. They also do great waxing that doesn't hurt as much.

Disastrous morning here as I discovered that one of us managed to turn the freezer off in the outhouse during our bonfire party. So instead of lovely afternoon wondering around gallery we're engaged in marathon cookathon. Could not be less enthusiastic. Whole kitchen is full of de-frosting meat. Blurgh.

EffiePerine · 11/11/2008 13:09

Verso: you need to sort out help, good luck with finding a night nanny . As you know, DS was an appalling sleeper as well, and I had some help from DH (though I was doing all the night feeds). We were talking the other day about how hard that first year was (not to put anyone off!) - at least you are prepared this time and know when to get help. Plus it may be much better. Are you getting a chance to rest now? I amnot planning on moving bery much in my precious 3 weeks of ML as DS will be at the CMs 3 days a week.

Arti: hope the boss is accommodating. Yes you are pg and need rest but you are also ILL. Hope the antib's kick in soon.

Am on train with dodgy connection so will wave to the rest of yous and post this before it disappears!

kayzisexpecting · 11/11/2008 13:34

Afternoon,

My 2 hours of shopping have killed me. I feel dreadful. But it was worth it. I got a nursing bra which fits so perfectly but still has a bit of room to grow into.

Verso I hope you get the Nanny sorted. I'd never heard of a night nanny before. Sounds like a great idea when you know how hard it can be for you.

Arti I hope your talk with your boss goes well. You need to put yourself first and tell them you can't work any longer.

I got some baby nappies today. They are so tiny compared to DS's.

Indith · 11/11/2008 13:55

Medised changed a while ago to over 2 only. I'm not entirely sure why but I believe it has something to do with the way it knocks them into such a deep sleep which for little ones isn't a great idea with a cold since their breathing isn't that well regulated yet. I agree though it can be a lifesaver with a seriously rotten cold.

at the lusting. Unfortunately for dh while I'm all for a nice snog and snuggle anything else is out of bounds. I have a head in my arse, I don't need anything else in that area Window shopping on the other hand........

Lal at least you won't have to cook for a while after the baby arrives!

Washed the newborn clothes today. They were all pegged out on the airer but all I can here from ds at the moment is "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" "ping" "oh dear" so I imagine some of them have found their way to the floor!

Verso · 11/11/2008 15:10

Love all the comments re fit blokes (gay or straight) - thanks for making me chuckle . JJ I am impressed at you staying best mates with your gay/almost not gay friend in spite of your indiscretion. Well done you!

Anyway - some progress on nanny front though useless one has texted me (spelling my name wrongly - ) to see if we can meet after all. I am not impressed.

Have had brilliant afternoon. Took myself to IKEA in my wee car (you have all this to look forward to LT!) and bought lots of bits: little baskets to put things in on our new shelves and so on - for the nesting extravaganza. Most of them pointless I'm sure, but was bliss to potter round the 'marketplace' bit without DH and DD and be able to buy random items at will. How SAD am I?!

chutneymary · 11/11/2008 15:18

hello girls, just passing. Have just been sick so am hoping it's nothing gruesome.

Have read a bit last night, so just to say soothing shoulder pats to those struggling, tee hee to all the good humour, laaaaaaaaaa to the opera buffs and love to all. I'll be back on later - got to go and pick up car from garage.

rosmerta · 11/11/2008 15:32

chutney hope you feel better soon

veggie with you ogling all the men, I'm surprised you remembered to even start the race

lt we had a santa outfit for ds's first xmas, unfortunately he was nearly a year old then so wasn't the most co-operative!

Following on from jump's mothercare discount, I've got one for ELC if anyone's interested. £20 off if you spend £100 and so on. Code is WISHX8P

Twiga · 11/11/2008 16:07
