Come March, the space hopper will be the only place that is comfortable to sit and we'll be swapping stories sbout raspberry leaf tea and popping EPO capsules up or fanjos to help bring on labour!

I'm so annoyed. I went to put on my birth preparation CD and found an empty case. No idea where the CD is I wasn't really wanting to do birth preparation, just pretend to be on an idyllic island for a bit. How on earth have I lost that CD?!

SpringySunshine · 24/11/2008 13:50

I think, from what I've read, it's to encourage the baby's head to engage. It's the same principle as birthing balls before labour, I believe.

SpringySunshine · 24/11/2008 13:52

Yes, I loved reading about the November ladies' EPO capsules

& as for the CD, I don't have a clue - it doesn't seem like the sort of thing anybody would want to borrow...

Swaliswan · 24/11/2008 13:54

NuttyTaff I would buy an exercise/birthing ball rather than nick your DD's space hopper. They are very good for getting comfortable because you aren't leaning back on them at all when you sit down and this helps to eliminate back pain. You gently tone your tummy muscles a bit just from sitting on one. They also help to get the baby into a good position for labour (partly because you aren't leaning back all of the time so don't end up with an OP baby with a bit of luck). During labour they are good for helping the baby's head to come further down and make birth quicker and easier apparently (no idea how this works).

I only know any of this because of MN. I don't know how anyone ever had babies without it!

Evening Primrose Oil capsules are meant to speed labour along - you put them up your fanjo before bed & by the time you get up for your first wee of the night they've dissolved. Apparently. It seems a bit odd. Pregnancy creates the strangest situations...

Sarahmum · 24/11/2008 14:38

Hi - I'm a newbie here, dd 15 April. Good to know that there are others out there going through the same process!

Didn't plan to do this again at 42, but starting to get used to the idea at last. Downside is that all my friends stopped popping out babies ages ago. I have a 10 yr old DS and will find out at 21 wk scan next week if he's to have a little brother or sister...

BoffinMum · 24/11/2008 14:42

O shit, don't all jump on Space Hoppers, I was being silly, I am sure this would give you a detached placenta.

Haha, welcome Sarah - sorry you've joined in the middle of the EPO capsules up fanjos / spacehopper conversation I'm at the age where none of my friends have started popping out babies, so I sympathise.

Boffin, I hope you realise I'm going to sue the pants off you if anything happens to my placenta

conkertree · 24/11/2008 15:01

hi sarahmum - hope things are going well so far.

have got my birthing ball from last time but never found it all that comfy for a whiole evening - my sofa is too comfy (I know I'm bad) but a session on it every evening was fine - and I spent most of the first stage of labour on one in the hospital.

maybe not a space hopper but I did have a shot on a bouncy castle once I was overdue.

I'm currently doing online grocery shopping whilst DP makes us lunch. I am therefore very firmly planted on the sofa, as usual.

What goodies shall I buy?

Sarahmum · 24/11/2008 15:09

I had one of those exercise ball things when I wasn't pregnant and I didn't use it (let alone sit on it) then, so there's no hope now. The sofa is my new best friend.

Springy - surely you're just going to get lots of lovely fresh fruit and veg??? Seriously, I'd get Ben & Jerrys, chocolate cake and a crate of chunky kit kats.

BoffinMum · 24/11/2008 15:19

Aphrodisiac foods???

SpringySunshine · 24/11/2008 15:22

Boffin!

See, I told DP that there'd be nobody better to ask for inspiration than pregnant women. Now I'm going to buy those things because I have been told to. It's not my fault. The people who live in my computer compelled me to stuff my face with gorgeous foods. Yes.

& the fruit & veg of course

VixterB · 24/11/2008 15:29

Hello all...
I'm a newbie too...I'm due 15th April, this is my first time.

Got my 20 week scan tomorrow, lucky enough to already know we're having a boy as have already had a total of 4 scans so far, for various reasons.

BoffinMum · 24/11/2008 15:33

Be brave, they're all on here:

www.gourmetsleuth.com/aphrodis_foods.htm

Start with avocados.

Then pasta with asafetida and basil sauce

Then vanilla, honey and chocolate pudding with side order of strawberries, for hand-feeding each other.

Sorted.

SpringySunshine · 24/11/2008 15:45

Coincidentally, I eat most of the things on that list anyway. No wonder I've got the horn.

Welcome Vixter! I hope everything's going okay, seeing as you're having so many scans? It's scary being a first timer anyway!

SpringySunshine · 24/11/2008 16:02

Oooh, off for my scan now. Getting really nervous & yet still having to drink (I forgot to collect a sample pot so will have to wee there ) so got to hope the tram's not too bumpy

I'll be back later to tell you all what flavour of baby I'm growing! Yay! (They'd better be able to see, or I swear...) Enjoy the rest of your afternoons!
