Hi B52s I know we haven't 'spoken' before but just wanted to say I'm thinking of you. Even though I'm sure you're in shock, your chances of everything being fine are really really strong, please try not to worry (easier said than done I know)

conkertree · 12/11/2008 13:40

i dont think i'd felt definite movements by 18 weeks last time round barbarella - just faint buzzing down low very occasionally.

do you plan to bf? i'm sure you'd have to be very well organised - remembering which baby had just eaten etc but I suppose you will have to be for lots of things with three babies .

dungungirl - my friend gave birth on the hard shoulder of a motorway last year - her husband delivered the baby with some help via mobile phone from the ambulance people, and a policeman who stood and held the phone. dont fancy it much myself though .

longlegted- made me laugh that you had tea and toast after your home birth - guess it must just be the accepted food for someone who has just given birth.

conkertree · 12/11/2008 13:46

sorry didnt refresh my page before posting so missed an hour of posts. Welcome satheresitting.

sorry about your results b52 - i dont have much experience either but I know from glancing at other threads that there are plenty of people talking about results like that on pg or other threads, so even if you dont post, you can get an idea opinions. and its still a lot of chances of there being absolutely nothing wrong - of course compared to 20,000 it will sound scary, but 1 chance in 240 is still a very low chance.

BoffinMum · 12/11/2008 13:47

Sorry to hear that B52s. This is always a worry of mine as I have two kids with SEN issues and certainly don't want any more problems to have to cope with.

Sounds like an amnio is sensible, but hang on to the fact that the risk is still low in the sense that out of a primary school with one class per year, it is the equivalent of one child in the whole school. That is not a lot, frankly.

I have not had an amnio myself, opting for a nuchal scan and some sort of fancy blood test at 12 weeks instead. But I hope some of the other mums can give you some info and tips.

DungunGirl · 12/11/2008 14:08

B52

I am sorry to hear you are so worried about the result. Easier said than done but try not to be.

The consultant at my hospital told me that actually anything above 150 is usually ok.

They set the level at 250 but that is to allow extra leeway. I reckon you'll find it is fine.

Chin up sweety. Good Luck.

DungunGirl · 12/11/2008 14:11

Can't find who commented on Tea and Toast after having baby...but that was EXACTLY what I was offered in hospital after I gave birth to DS!

It tasted sooooo good after all that hard work!

AuldAlliance · 12/11/2008 14:13

Well, I've been lurking here for ages, but thought I'd post at last to share experiences with you, B52.

I had an amnio almost 2 weeks ago, after a triple test result of 1 in 130. I'm still awaiting the results, which is why I'd not posted because I am scared about them and about the next stage should it arise.

As far as the amnio itself went, mine was far, far less alarming than I had expected. I barely felt a thing, certainly no pain at all. DH came with me for the actual amnio, and he watched it on the scan screen, and said the baby didn't react with any apparent panic (friends had mentioned seeing their baby shy away from the needle). It's fairly quick (setting up the sterile field took a few minutes). I had a scan an hour or so after to check all seemed OK, and then a follow-up one last week which showed the baby was fine and the amniotic fluid fully replenished.

I'm in France, don't know what procedure is in the UK: I was ordered bed rest for 48 hours and then given a week off work.

HTH; if you have any questions, feel free. It is a worrying thing to undergo, I don't know if anyone can actually say they know what they'll do if they have a positive result, the whole thing raises such complex issues. The wait is terrible.

What I would advise is getting as much info as possible about the doctor who will be carrying out the amnio and her/his track record, as well as that of the hospital where you'll be getting it done. I felt very, very reassured by the doctor's reputation and attitude, and I'm sure that helped me to relax and contributed to the painlessness.
Fingers crossed.

AA (France, due 14th April, 1 DS aged 3.8)

B52s · 12/11/2008 14:14

Thankyou. I know it's a tiny risk but still... Comfort lunch of toad in the hole has helped a bit. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow as have been advised to rest for 48 hours afterwards, and MN is pretty restful. Boffinmum - you nearly had me in tears again. Thanks all.

B52s · 12/11/2008 14:17

AA - hope your results arrive soon and they're all clear. Welcome to the club.

chickenbalti · 12/11/2008 14:22

Hi all

B52's sorry have no experience but wish you well and I think 1 in 240 is less than half a percent. Take it easy.

BoffinMum · 12/11/2008 14:25

B52s, you've got me tearful as well now. Chickenbalti, that's a really good way of expressing the risk, glad you thought of that.

BoffinMum · 12/11/2008 14:28

PuzzleRocks, btw have just reported other thread as things are out of hand over there now.

bronze · 12/11/2008 14:41

You lot talk too much its taken me ages to catch up and even then you've carried on posting while I've been reading

MW has just been and I've had my 16 week appointment. Heard the baby for the first time which was reassuring as I havent felt anything for a couple of weeks. I've been referred for physio for my back which hasnt surprised me as its got worse with each pregnancy.
Now I've just got to work out what I want to do about the birth. They want me to be monitored throught the whle thin (vbac) but that though terrifies me. In a dream world I would have a water home birth but dh is against the idea and after last time I have to respect his wishes a little. I just feel that if I'm in hospital I'll be pushed more for things I don't want. I dont think theres a centre near me and anyway I dont think they would have me. Its actually beginning to upset me.

B52 I hope (and I'm sure) your rsults come back clear

Have finally told the pil now so have told the children. ds1 has been telling everyone so its not being kept very quiet anymore.
I'm just waiting til I feel less tired and sick then I can start enjoying it more.

PuzzleRocks · 12/11/2008 14:49

Dungungirl you were lucky. Nobody offered me a damn thing after giving birth, just told me to hurry up, they needed the room. [sad}

B52's and Auld Alliance, my colleague had an amnio on the basis of much worse odds and got the all clear. Please try not to worry. Sending you virtual hugs.

Boffinmum, I just commented over there. It is a pity the way some people have to trample over everyone else.

chickenbalti · 12/11/2008 14:54

Does anyone know what i can expect when I go and see the consultant midwife? This is 3rd kid but never had to see consultant before last birth was emergency c-section - so I assume this is the reason, and am already annoyed that they have ticked consultant led centre on my book without discussing it with me! Many thanks

PuzzleRocks · 12/11/2008 14:54

Hi Bronze, sorry to hear you're upset. Do you have a sympathetic midwife? I hope things work out. Keep us posted.

Thanks PuzzleRocks. xx

I am just glad I wasn't at school with her, as I am sure we would have come to blows quite badly. Indeed hot hair crimpers might have been involved.

MN Towers have spoken and I will post up their reply later. but have to do a work thing now (feel I should make an effort to earn my salary, even if I am on semi-sick leave).

AuldAlliance · 12/11/2008 15:41

Thanks for updating the list for me, PuzzleRocks. I was intending to do it, but am trying to get through a pile of marking while keeping an eye on DS and the neighbour's daughter, and have my hands full!

BoffinMum · 12/11/2008 15:52

There you go, AuldAlliance.

LuLuBai · 12/11/2008 15:53

Hi B52s - sorry to hear about the stress you are under but try not to let it get to you too much. The odds are very low. If it is any help at all a friend of mine was given 1 in 10 odds recently and the baby is fine!

They do get a lot of stuff wrong. It's completely different but when I was pg with DD I was put under a lot of stress having to have extra scans all the way through as the measurements where coming up too small and they thought she might not be developing properly. I gave birth to a 100% healthy 9lb1oz, 56 cm long baby. She was actually the only one on the ward allowed to leave the hospital within 24hours as all the other babies had minor health issues that required them to stay in for a few more days.

BoffinMum · 12/11/2008 15:54

I am alarmed at all this tea and toast after labour talk. I assumed it was compulsory to scoff the raw placenta. I wondered why the MW looked at me funny.

LuLuBai · 12/11/2008 15:55

Bleeeuuurgh!

BoffinMum · 12/11/2008 15:58

But it's natural, LuLuBai! Great with a nice glass of chianti, hahaha.
