Hello MathsMummy, due date twin, I am now racing you to the finish line!

I do educational research. Interestingly I have to hang out with a lot of maths people at work and they're good fun. They have just been trying to teach me that there are different kinds of infinity, something called knot theory that certain people spend a lot of their lives thinking about without necessarily learning to sail at the same time, and most mysteriously something called queue theory (although I am convinced this cannot possibly apply in countries such as Italy).

BoffinMum · 08/11/2008 21:45

PuzzleRocks, I am very hopeful now that life will become more normal and I won't be suffering like the other poor souls all over the internet that don't manage to get any help (mostly in the US).

mathsmummy27 · 09/11/2008 12:10

BoffinMum glad you are feeling better.
Lol at queue theory. Maths people are more fun than people might think

mumsoon · 09/11/2008 14:50

Hello April Mums and Babies,

Very much enjoyed catching up with the latest thread, finding out what everyone's up to.

Springy you made me laugh to tears with your celebrity dreams.

LuluBai I had fun doing the online gender test - 60% chance of a girl.

BarbarellaNZ it is really exciting to gain insight into your experiences carrying triplets.

Tristaleejac I really admire your strength

As for me, all well. Bump the size of a watermelon which seems big for 17+3 but not complaining. And the Mumnesia has well and truly kicked in...and get very emotional for no reason!

20 wk scan 3rd Dec - can't wait

Been enjoying those first little flutters and occasional kick, usually when sitting down quietly, or during meetings!

conkertree · 09/11/2008 16:34

hope you didnt think i was prying tristaleejac - sorry to hear about your dp's attitude - hope he realises what he's missing soon, especially once the baby arrives. I know what you say about people not changing can be true but I am an eternal optimist and always think that people do have the capacity to change but they have to really want to themselves - nobody else can force them to, so fingers crossed he does.

mathsmummy - my uncle does research (or something) into quantum theory - he has tried to explain it to me a few times and i feel like i understand roughly what he's talking about at the time, then i try to explain it to someone else and find i dont have a clue. i am always impressed by maths people's ability to talk in a whole other language - i suppose its the same as people talking french etc when you dont.

anyway totally waffling now. am starting to wonder where my bump is - still look more fat than pregnant, so am hoping it pops out properly soon.

mathsmummy27 · 09/11/2008 20:55

Conker I am always impressed at people who can effortlessly read music...
First person felt a kick from the outside today

Gemzooks · 10/11/2008 10:58

hi all,

haven't been around for ages, but anyway: had 20 week scan today and it's a GIRL!! So excited! DH doesn't want to know and doesn't want anyone told so mumsnet is the place! (have one lovely DS of 2)..

hope everyone feeling all nice and 2nd trimestery...

conkertree · 10/11/2008 11:02

ooh thats exciting gemzooks - are you going to buy a few wee girly things and keep them hidden from dh? dont know how i'd manage to not let it slip - but then as long as you throw some red herrings in now and again, maybe he wont find out.

my scan is not till december 2nd but cant wait - wont find out sex though as they wont tell you in our area.

LuLuBai · 10/11/2008 11:13

Morning all. Wow mathsmummy - kicks from the outside. How lovely. I'm getting lots of little wriggles (it is having a little boogie as I type) but nothing htat could be felt from the outside yet.

Strangely still having the odd waft of nausea and occasional days when everything tastes wierd (like I have seasoned it with nail polish remove - ugh).

But mostly feeling fairly chirpy. Have started to look forward to Christmas now. Getting ambitious ideas about making all my own cards, creating garlands out of cranberries etc etc.

BabyBolat · 10/11/2008 11:35

Morning all

Hope you are all feeling Ok this morning.

Had my scan on the weekend and it's official = I have a difficult child!!! we were there for ages and not in good way - he or she had me running up and down stairs rolling around like a beached whale and generally just causing mayhem!

Every time they tried to get a picture of the heart of measure the leg bones, as soon as the camera thing came close the baby literally kicked it away with all it's might! It refused to stay still for more than a milisecond and then proceeded (once again) to stick its bum in the way so we couldn't get anything!)

It was all very amusing to start with and then I just wanted to measurements to make sure all was OK and the baby was having none of it.

I didn't want to find out the sex, but secretly tried to see, but the little blighter wasn't having any of that either so am still none the wiser.

Her parting words to me were - 'I have never had one that was so difficult - good luck to you in 20 weeks!' Oh dear!

And unfortunately for DH the pictures are rubbish and kind of 'in motion' (to the point where it looks like a weird robo-dog in one of the pictures!

The good thing is, all in normal and baby is exactly average for growth (with slightly longer legs!) but all good!

How is everyone this morning?

BabyBolat · 10/11/2008 11:37

Ah Gemzooks, how exciting - how on earth are you going to keep it a secret?!! I would be rubbish!!!

Lulu bubs is having a wiggle also now - so weird that just a week ago, hadn't felt anything and now moving all the time!!!

LuLuBai · 10/11/2008 11:39

Brilliant news BabyBolat. Loads of fun coming your way. Should be fine for first 8 months or so (when in theory baby should be where you left it) but once it works out how to get from A-B unaided you will have your work cut out!

Gemzooks · 10/11/2008 12:00

babybolat, had to laugh at your story of the scan! I think it shows it's intelligent; who would want a cold scanner thing pressed against every bit of their body! Mine moved around a lot too but we got enough of a look at its bits.

conkertree, will be really hard, in fact DH already knows because I was grinning from ear to ear and he knew I wanted a girl.

mathsmummy, glad to hear about kicks from outside; it is lovely!

still can't believe it really is a girl, won't believe it till it comes out..

BabyBolat · 10/11/2008 12:31

Knowing me LuLu I will forget where I put it in the first place - can be a bit dippy! (starting to get all very scary and real now that I am on the count down rather than up and so clearly feeling the baby move around!)

Not to depress anyone but it really freaked me out when I was at the hospital and saw the your choices brochure and worked out that in theory I could still have an abortion for another four weeks! I am not criticising anyone who choses to have an abortion, whatever is right for each person, but it's so scary that this little person with a fully-beating heart, and 10 fingers and ten toes, and that very same person that has a dance party in my tummy in bed is still not classed as a viable human! hmmm! Have never really thought about it before now but 24 weeks does seem a little long!

BabyBolat · 10/11/2008 12:42

Oh Conkertree I am very jealous - kind of want to know now! is so exciting!

Gemzooks - yes intelligent would be the good way of looking at it - is clearly going to take after its father!! To be fair we did wake it up (was asleep when we started with it's head resting on my placenta) so I would be pretty annoyed if someone woke me up prodding and poking!!!

Mathsmummy, I can't wait for kicks on the outside - nor can DH (think he feels a bit left out everytim I tell him the baby is kicking!)

LuLuBai · 10/11/2008 13:25

Hi BabyBolat - a very contentious subject but personally I don't believe in abortion after 12 weeks.

There is in fact no legal limit if the baby has any form of disability. So for example I believe you could abort a baby with a hare lip at 39 weeks.

Oh dear - probably not a topic of conversation to be had here.

BabyBolat · 10/11/2008 14:06

yeah probably not - sorry for bringing it up - just found it really weird and without DH to rant to MN is it!

Anyway off to happier things!

BabyBolat · 10/11/2008 14:13

I finally gave in to the maternity clothes at the weekend - H&M is definitely the best place on the high street- although did find a lot of over-sized tops in Topshop also! - still feels very weird with an elasticated band on my jeans tho!

conkertree · 10/11/2008 17:09

i did too babybolat today with my work trousers. was partly cause they were getting too tight last week, but also partly cause my normal ones were in the washing machine this morning having only remembered to wash them last night - much comfier in mat ones anyway

mathsmummy27 · 10/11/2008 17:13

Don't worry my DH can't feel it - baby refuses to play ball with him - only likes ladies it seems.

Scan on Wed I'm so excited now you're all starting to get some news! Well done on lovely wiggly babies

BoffinMum · 10/11/2008 19:35

I have just ordered myself an expensive red sexy dress from Isabelle Olivier, for morale purposes only, you understand.

If I can only walk 10 metres I want those 10 metres to be in style.

Off to Chiro tomorrow for more treatment. May make it to 12 metres. Watch this space.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 10/11/2008 20:12

Hi everyone - sure no one remembers me, LOL as I so infrequently post here! But I think my 2 very active toddlers (one 20 months tomorrow & the other 3 years on Wednesday) keep me very busy! Anyway, was surprised to see 298 posts on a thread I'd not even seen yet! oops! Just can't keep up with you all! Oh well.

Guess this pregnancy is just flying by, and suppose the way it passes w/out realizing is a good thing - nothing to worry about - not yet anyway! I'll be 20 weeks on Wednesday - can I already be half way there?! Don't think I'll be having any more scans just now (I always opt out of the downs etc screening, so I think that means one less scan for me). Though I'll probably have one at about 36 weeks (ugh!) to check location of placenta etc for my planned home birth.

Can't fit into any normal clothes either - it's all maternity clothes for me. Though unfortunately having not gotten rid of my pregnancy weight from last time, some of my skirts from before don't even fit me. boo hoo So need to buy a few things, I think.

Getting lots of big kicks at the moment! yay!

Hope everything is going well for everyone else. Must try to catch up on the other messages!

PuzzleRocks · 11/11/2008 08:46

Hi Rachel, glad to have you back.

BoffinMum - I see you mentioned homebirth on another thread. Were all your children homebirths? I am very keen so may want to pick your brains at some point if that's okay?

Gemzooks · 11/11/2008 09:39
