With a CS you don't get skin-to-skin before a weigh, wipe-down, APGAR test and giving the baby a good squishing out of parental view to (briefly) mimic the experience of coming down a birth canal.

swampster · 13/11/2008 09:57

Good luck at Tommy's mrsy, I am uncommonly fond of that hospital.

mrsy · 13/11/2008 09:59

On the subject of thread names how about "Due Fab Feb 2009 - D minus 100 days and counting"? I'm due in 101 days time!!!!!!!!!!!

mrsy · 13/11/2008 10:00

Oh, swampy, is it good there? and is it easy to find, we get into Waterloo and the maps aren't that clear...

mrsy · 13/11/2008 10:05

And catstar - are you in our FB group?

dinkystinky · 13/11/2008 10:10

Sounds good Mrsy... 101 days, wow!

OP posts:
swampster · 13/11/2008 10:10

From Waterloo, if you make sure you come out of the right exit, it is pretty easy. But there are LOADS of exits and I've never found it that well signposted.

If you can't see signs to St Thomas's, follow signs to the river, the Southbank, or even better, the London Eye. Once you are on the river it is pretty straightforward. Facing the river turn left. And walk.

I heart Tommy's, aside from postnatally, where it truly stinks.

dinkystinky · 13/11/2008 10:38

Good luck with your scan Mrsy. Enjoy Bluewater first too!

spottyshoes I am a chums4mums coordinator (if you read Take a Break) and have spoken to a MW through that. She didn't go to a class because "I'm a midwife, why would I need to?" and she said afterwards she felt very isolated because she didn't know anyone with babies and when she went to mother and toddler groups everyone was in their "antenatal groups" and she couldn't break in. I never did classes last time and I found the same, that's why I decided to go. I don't really care what they tell us, I just want to try to avoid the isolation and have some friends with babies.

AP = attachment parenting.

Well done you MarkStretch! No one should be touching you to get a baby attached because you're about to go home and then who will do it? (In the Unit they were a little more hands on but when you're in for weeks getting the baby on is first priority, teaching mum is second) I'm impressed that you still managed it and carried on for so long.

THOM, ouch! I can understand why you'd want the CS!

I love Tommy's and I've never been there! I owe a lot to one doctor there and know many people who can all say the same (Prof Hughes who's name has an effect on every day of my life ie Hughes Syndrome).

MarkStretch · 13/11/2008 12:09

I cannot BELIEVE what I have just done!

I took some washing upstais into the baby's room to put on the clothes airer. Unfolded the clothes airer and it had been left outside and a ton of rusty water poured out of it and all over the cream carpet in the baby's room!

ARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!

I have been scrubbing at it! I know cream is a stupid colour for a baby's room anyway but the house was refurbished before we moved in and it's cream throughout upstairs!

That room has only been used occasionally as an office and the carpet was lovely.

swampster · 13/11/2008 12:23

The first of many big messes! It's a boy, MS, trust me, in a year or two you simply won't even notice stuff like that any more. [puts blinkers back on]

MarkStretch · 13/11/2008 12:27

Yes, on reflection that did make me sound a bit mad and completely house proud which I'm not really.

I just want it all nice. Hurumpphhh.

MarkStretch · 13/11/2008 12:29

I'm ravenous today. It's lunchtime already isn't it?

I have huge thighs now and loads more cellulite. I can feel the dimples through my clothes.

I am gorgeous.

dinkystinky · 13/11/2008 12:32

Aah, another fertility goddess-lookalike then Markstretch?

If you're really worried about the cream carpet, you could hire a carpet cleaner machine from B&Q to give it a good clean - though as swampy says, it wont stay clean for long come next Feb...

I have just weighed myself and I've put on 0.8 of a stone. Less than I expected.

Let's EAT!

catstar · 13/11/2008 13:04

Mrsy - how do I join the Facebook group? Sorry if it's all been explained before.....

Re breastfeeding, I really struggled with Little O and ended up expressing and mixed feeding. One of our local Children's Centres runs a breatfeeding cafe which I only discovered after my supply had dried up - do you think it would be worth going there before the birth of No. 2 to chat about what went wrong before?

Also, those of you wise ladies who have BTDT, how did you cope with breastfeeding when you have a toddler running around? I remember spending hours and hours on the sofa trying to breastfeed last time, but I just won't be able to do that this time. DH is only taking a week paternity leave and I have no family nearby. Little O will only be 19 months so still v dependent on me .... Starting to worry about logistics etc. I know it will work out - just can't imagine how! Is CBeebies the answer?

So many questions!!!

Cocodrillo · 13/11/2008 13:22

Yes, telly works. Especially if you ration it out. Or you can read to your toddler while bfing if they are willing to concentrate for a few mins. Some people suggest wrapping up teeny little presents for unwrapping and playing with during bfing but that seems a bit of an expensive option!

You could have a bag filled with little interesting things that only comes out at bfing times though, and might work as a distraction.

Or a packet of Quavers should do the trick .

I used to be able to sit and just read a book for ages when bfing DD1. It's not the same with the youngest.

Cocodrillo · 13/11/2008 13:24

I a huge too people looked horrified when I tell them I'm due in late Feb.

Am at home today sick. No kids! Is BLISS. Reading Stephanie Meyer's Twilight. Am loving the sexy teenage vampire theme. Grrrrrrrrr. Don't think I'd be top of Edward Cullen's list though.

dinkystinky · 13/11/2008 13:28

Be careful Coco - I got a crush on Edward Cullen after reading those books!

PinkTulips · 13/11/2008 13:57

catstar, a combination of feeding while running after toddler, encouraging toddler to snuggle up while you feed and occasionally simply locking toddler into the room with you and letting them run wild while you sit and feed it sounds worse than it is, you'll find it does sort of fall into place after while

i had a dream last night my cat had her kittens and when i came down this morning she was curled up in her basket with 4 tiny babies looking very smug and pleased with herself

i've put her, basket and kittens into the old travel cot (we have a newer one as we needed 2 when ds was little so it wasn't going to be reused anyway) to keep kittens and toddlers seperate and she hasn't left it yet, is lying there purring and feeding happily. the kids are over the moon, i hadn't told them she was pregnant just in case she didn't have them here (she was feral just 3 months ago after all, i honestly didn't think she would).

i fell asleep on the couch with ds while dd was at playschool and woke up 5 mins before i was supposed to be there to collect her still feel woozy now!

lardy, bump size has nothing much to do with the size of the baby so try not to panic, and bigger babies do tend to be a bit easier to deliver anyway. i'd agree with those who've said induction may cause alot of the problems during labour you fear.... better to let things happen naturally if possible (with a few doses of cumin tea and sex thrown in for good measure )

people keep telling me i'm tiny for 28 weeks but i'm alot bigger than i was with dd who was 7lbs4oz and seem to be smaller than with ds who was 8lbs10oz, although alot of the gain with him was just blubber as i made the mistake of presuming that seeing as i didn't gain too much after dd i could eat what i wanted in the quantities i wanted

onwardandoutward · 13/11/2008 14:03

New thread titles????

"Due Fab Feb 2009: how many of us will hold out that long against the swampy cloth nappy pusher?"

"Due Fab Feb 2009: crossed fingers (and legs) we'll get through another thread without welcoming any early arrivals"

"Due Fab Feb 2009: now we're getting offered seats on the bus even without undoing our coats"

Can't think of any more. Any of those any good? Anyone got anything better

thehouseofmirth · 13/11/2008 14:13

"With a CS you don't get skin-to-skin before a weigh, wipe-down, APGAR test and giving the baby a good squishing out of parental view to (briefly) mimic the experience of coming down a birth canal." Swampster is there any logic behind this procedure if C-section is for maternal reasons? I'm not having one because of any suspected probs with baby so if he comes out breathing surely they don't need to weigh or clean him immediately or do anything else?

I have absolutely no idea how many days until this baby is due. I can barely remember how many weeks pregnant I am. Am I the only one in denial/too busy to actually remember they are actually having a baby?
