Anyone else read the Twilight books by Stephanie Meyer? Finding it very weird that I now have a crush on a fictional character, but not just any fictional character but rather a 17 year old vampire - think I may need professional help. Damn pregnancy hormones....

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 07/11/2008 21:04

Markstretch - perhaps you should name change to "I'vebeentangoed"

OP posts:
MarkStretch · 07/11/2008 21:04

Dinky, it's ok, my sister has a long standing crush on the Daddy lion from The Lion King.

Now that's weird.

dinkystinky · 07/11/2008 21:05

Markstretch - you are officially brilliant!

OP posts:
swampster · 07/11/2008 21:11

I just don't like it cause it smacks of apartheid: "During the apartheid era, in order to keep divisions and maintain a race-focused society, the term Coloured was used to describe one of the four main racial groups identified by law: Blacks, Whites, Coloureds and Indians." from Wikipedia

swampster · 07/11/2008 21:12

MarkStretch

dinkystinky · 07/11/2008 21:15

Sorry Swampster - have never really heard of it used in that context but can see how it may cause offence to some given that background. Profuse apologies - to you and to Crayola...

right, off to bed to fantasize about a 17 year old vampire.... tragic, truly tragic....

I?ve fallen behind again! My net connection is off so I need to get that sorted.

Mumoverseas, I?m glad to hear that you?ve not been burgled! What a massive coincidence that you happened upon it! Hope you?re up for a reward if you?ve helped catch an art forge

Where I?m looking at having my wedding reception (when he gets around to a divorce, they?ve only been separated for 6 years, so I?m not expecting much rush) we don?t have to pay for the venue if we book out all the rooms and they?re actually not that expensive. There?s only 14 rooms and I said that if we end up paying for a couple of rooms it will be cheaper than hiring a venue! It?s in the countryside though so I?m sure there will be a few people needing to stay over.

Spotty, I remember my first pregnancy, I was all excited. With Lily-Hope I was happy once I was past 8 and 12 weeks. With Isobel I was on edge, this time I?m just numb. It takes so much from you when it goes wrong

Happy Belated Birthday dinkystinky! You?ve given me ideas, Tink is forever climbing out her cot and I?m thinking maybe she wouldn?t be able to if she was in a grobag, so maybe we?ll have to get her some!

I?ve been wondering if it?s worth restarting the due date list so that we can see who is still here and possibly update the list a bit if it needs it?

Agree with dinkystinky about living in a flat. I used to leave the pushchair downstairs and ask Dad to come around after work to put it away for me (he works about 2m from mine) until I discovered the wrap sling then rarely took it out again!

Nadssss, you could always make a bed up on the sofa using a couple of blankets, roll one to make a bumper and then tuck the one covering baby under the ?bumper? to keep it all together. Living in a flat I found cosleeping really helpful. Babies will sleep in their normal environment because they get used to it. If you want to have the lights on baby will adapt.

And to both you and KT, cosleeping will make a big difference on your sleep. I could never understand why people were commenting on my sleep as I slept really well.

LittleMissNorty ANY injection is better than Clexane! The MW?s who did my steroids tried to prepare me for them (I?m still bruised three weeks later) but I didn?t think they were that bad.

KT, your scans are more important than your weight. As long as baby is going the right way and you?re eating then don?t worry about it. Plenty of people don?t gain much weight.

I?d considered using a tummy tub but there was one at the NNU on top of a cupboard so I asked them about it. I got a funny look and told they?d been asked to trial it and they didn?t like it. So I decided against it. Tink liked a deep bath, we used to go in together a lot and she?d try to swim across it! (Yes, I am talking about her as a newborn )

Chilledmama, you do know that residential procedure for a fire alarm is to stay put, don?t you? Obviously not if you?re on fire but you?re supposed to wait until you?re told to move by the fire brigade so that there?s not lots of people moving at the same time in the opposite direction to the fire brigade when they?re probably not at risk anyway.

When I went to the hospital three weeks ago I felt like my bump had shrunk! There was me 24 weeks sitting with women term and in labour with huge bumps! I suddenly felt like I didn?t even look pregnant. Was funny though all those women were bypassed for me when I got the positive fibronectin. They went from having no beds to finding me somewhere quick!

FiFi is behaving herself now, although I think she?s redecorating (hoping it?s not packing) as she seems to be throwing things around quite a bit. Had a little scare on Thursday, which only TBD knows about till now, I was shopping in Tesco and stopped into the toilet (I?ve been [ahem] clearing out for a week or so now). I went to wipe and noticed that the water had turned red, I nearly cried because I saw the rest of the day/week run past my eyes. It turned out it wasn?t the baby, but I?ve never had a bleed like that before! I don?t think I?ve ever lost so much so quickly when I?ve been on a period. It stopped very quickly though and I was able to finish my shopping, got home and I was clean, nothing more happened so I?ve decided to ignore it, I?m a bit fed up of being messed with now, there?s not one orifice that hasn?t been prodded or tested in the last three weeks! Also had a rather big nose bleed on the night. I?ve not been very good at taking my anticoagulants this week so it?s odd that I should bleed like that

Carrying on from the ?coloured? conversation, am I the only one finding it irritating that Obama is being described as ?black?? Didn?t his mother have anything to do with his genes? TBD does something similar, he is ¼ Russian, ½ Welsh and ½ English, English born and lived most of his life, but he tells everyone he is Welsh.

Sorry for a long one, but you girls do talk when I?m not around!

TinkerBellesMum · 08/11/2008 01:40

¼ Welsh even! I can't add up!

spottyshoes · 08/11/2008 08:25

Lol TinkBM I was wondering where that extra 1/4 came from. Glad Tink2 is still behaving herself.

DS is fine, knew he would be but it was just before I was putting him down to sleep so bit paranoid about concussion. He's running round like a maniac this morning and not doing much to avoid the wall

Swampy how many rinses do you think it should take to get the nappy water to run clean? I'm about to start no 6 this morning I'm quite suprised that there can be so much build up as I have only been using the Size 3 prefolds for about a month!

MS - I'm even worse as do my feet and half way up my calves aswell just incase I want to wear a skirt or short one with leggings under. Looks odd when I go swimming

PinkTulips · 08/11/2008 10:23

to those of you panicing about having a second.... it's a piece of piss compared to having a PFB

especially in our case as dd was an absolute nightmare and ds was a very placid easy child (in comparison, i have a sneaking suspicion he might not have been all that easy really he just seemed less work than dd who never slept at all!)

fol is her, arrived plastered as per usual, wound the kids up so much they took hours to get down and then woke about 5oo times during the night and were in our bed kicking us and screaming all night. he smoked in the playroom when we went to bed and lord knows where he put the ash as the windows to that room are locked and he locked my kittens out of the kitchen where their toilet was, poor mites were so good and held it in and both ran for the litter tray and jumped in simultaneously when i came down and let them back in there.

he's sober now but already dragging dp out the door to pick up more cans. i'm heading out to the farmers market as soon as they get back and may find a few hundred other errands to do while i'm out!

spotty, ds ran straight into a concrete pillar in a shop the other day.... you could hear the thunk from across the shop..... he doesn't seem to have done any damage.... although he's so daft i'm not sure how you'd tell the differance really i'm sure your ds is fine and has forgotton already, apparently toddlers bones are still quite soft to protect them from stuff like that.

mrsy · 08/11/2008 10:33

Morning all - hope sleept well?

We have a rare weekend together as John has been off all week, and I get him to myself this weekend - unfortunately, this equates to trying to cross some more jobs of the ever-growing list, but it was lovely to wake up with him snuggeling me at 10.00, rather than kissing me goodbye at 7.30.

What's everyone up to this weekend - oh and Kentish folk - check out the facebook thread for plans for our meet-up...

Oh, and has anyone seen the adverts for the new pregnancy test that says how many weeks/months pregnant you are? Mad!

herbgarden · 08/11/2008 11:20

swampy I have my fingers in my ears .

Dinky....hard when they don't eat isn't it. DS usually does it only when not well/out of sorts and even though unreasonable I get pretty wound up (stupid really as I never feel like eating when ill) but I know I'd get upset by it if it was me and it was a regular thing - I have a few friends whose toddlers are the same (most friends have girls so I seem to think that girls are the fussy ones) and I can see them tensing up when mealtimes come round (although ds never eats well if we're out or at someone elses house) I am really hoping that no 2 is an easy eater. I love cooking and food etc so to have a fussy non-eater would break my heart ! Hope the redundancies don't affect you. It's not nice having that hanging over you. My jobshare was being encouraged to take some "leave of absence" whilst I went on mat leave. It was put on the table as an option. When jobshare and I realised that a partner from our other office who is not busy seemed to be rather keen for this to happen we got suspicious. We suspect that she has her eye on our clients and would cherry pick the work. The partner from our own office has persuaded my jobshare that they'll help her out to cover my mat leave so that we can keep the work where it is. I know if things get much quieter we'd just never get it back and that might justify a redundancy situation on our return. Said partner who thought she might have our work was a bit peeved when we said we'd made the decision not to both go on leave - all that she could do now is make one or both of us redundant but they've said they don't anticipate any more redundancies at the moment

DS is still waking at 5am . I have no idea what to do. I am so knackered though - it's not so bad if I sleep through from 9pm to 5am as that's a good 8 hours kip -it's hard though when I wake at about 2.30am and then don't drop off again as I'm like the living dead. Downloaded my ipod with relaxation music which I used the other day. I really hope this phase (been going on about a month) passes before no 2 arrives. Seems to make no difference whether he's had a nap or no nap - I think it's become habit. I have a busy week at work next week so will just have to get to bed early.....

TinkerBellesMum · 08/11/2008 12:05

The pregnancy test was trialed on here I think. It only tells you weeks from conception as 1-2, 2-3, 4+ IIRC.

I'm just passing through while I find a recipe for Shortbread to cook with my nephew.

dinkystinky · 08/11/2008 14:24

Thanks Herbgarden. I try to be quite zen about DS and his faddy eating/non-eating phases but finding it harder to do so when pregnant... I dont even like cooking so breaks my heart when I've made stuff for him that I know he likes but he wont eat it... ho hum, here's hoping no 2 takes after his dad and has an appetite and a half.... and I know that it is just a phase and will pass eventually but emotionally is hard...

DH was in dog house this morning - he was out last night and I went to bed at around 9.30ish, finally got to sleep at 11 (LOTS of fireworks outside till then so no chance of dropping off til then) and then got woken up at half midnight by pissed DH who had lost his keys somewhere on the way home and then of course had a really broken nights sleep.......... so can relate to your exhaustion Herbgarden today. He has been v hungover this morning but apologetic so may let him live... for now.

Herbgarden - have you tried those timer nightlights (think you can get the bunny clock - sleeping and awake - but apparently also a thomas the tank engine version) on your DS? Explain that he must stay quiet until bunny wakes up. Worked wonders with my old neighbours little girl - who had spent 4 years wandering into their room at 5 in the morning.

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 08/11/2008 14:27

P.s. Wow TBM - that was a mega post! Sorry to hear you've had another worrying week - am keeping my fingers crossed that Fifi stays put for a good few more weeks now.

Pinktulips - am really sorry your FIL is being such a monumental pain in the bum. Fingers crossed this weekend is good weatherwise for you so you can escape from the house lots with the kids.

OP posts:
PinkTulips · 08/11/2008 14:52

thankfully irish drink laws meant it was too early in the morning for him to buy drink earlier when they wwent in and i may have accidentally fogotton to tell him that the pub is open up the road and the match is on he's fine when he's sober, which isn't often unfortunately.

funnily i'm finding dd's non eating much tougher since getting pregnant too..... i think it's the fact that cooking is such an effort at the minute it winds me up when she doesn't eat, funnily enough though me being less zen and more dictatorish about it seems to be working and she's eating marginally more than she used to!

TinkerBellesMum · 08/11/2008 15:48

LOL dinkystinky I write into Word and copy over so they can end up long, it feels longer to write the same on here.

I think I'm past worrying now, it's getting almost "[sigh] what this time?" I just want it to all be over now

thehouseofmirth · 08/11/2008 17:06

Dinky have you ever read Child Won't Eat? It's largely aimed at problems during the weaning stage but I read it much later and it really helped me feel better about a situation I was powerless to actually control or change.
