MamaGoose · 01/11/2008 08:43

hello ladies

Hope everyone is well. I know I will jinx myself if I say this but [whispers] I feel really well. Baby leaping around like a gymnast in training.

Did a hallowe'en party for my boys. Children had a great time which was fab. . But of coures one of those days up to that point as got call from school to say DS2 had fallen over and needed to be taken to hospital for stitches in his chin. Made it home minutes before 11 witchy children turned up on my doorstep!

TBM - v pleased you are still with us!!

I can't meet up with anyone as I live in Spain .

x

spottyshoes · 01/11/2008 09:54

Pinch Punch 1st of the month! I leave work NEXT month - woohoo

Morning all. Your Halloween's sound active - We went to my mums for Chinese DS loved the fact people were coming to the door so much and would run down the hall all excited until he saw the masks and stop still with and run back to me! I thought it was v

On a tidy up mission today as have viewers tonight but reeeeeaally dont feel like it as DS is teething his last teeth so have only had 4 hours sleep

Hope you all have lovely Saturdays x

spottyshoes · 01/11/2008 09:56

and MamaGoose I really dont think living in Spain warrants a !!! More like a from the rest of us.

mrsy · 01/11/2008 12:23

Morning all - had a lovely non-halloweeny night last night at John's cousin's, who is lovely, her husband made the yummiest lasagna!

mumoverseas - I went to Christ's Hospital and loved it. They are a charity school, so assess your income and fix the fees accordingly (they actually differed my fees for the first year as my mum was paying for my sister's school as she had been in a car crash and wanted to use the compensation to pay her fees, but hadn't got the money yet, and were really good to us). It's very much about the end product being a well-rounded person ready for the big bad world than exam results and stuff - my headmaster used to say "I think we're about x in the league tables, but I haven't looked for the last 4 years, so we might have moved..."!

Having said that, I got 2 As and a B at A level, so the teaching isn't bad, and it's always a nice mix of backgrounds (inner-London vs country bumpkins) and family situations, so you really learn from other peoples way of life and experiences. I loved it there, and the sixth form accommodation is amazing!

dinkystinky · 01/11/2008 13:08

One of my ex boyfriends went to Christs Hospital - he absolutely loved his time there (as did his older brother, and all of his mates who went there too). As MrsY said, huge difference in backgrounds there, really great atmosphere for learning and he thought all his teachers were amazing (though this was a LONG time ago).

BloodRedTulips · 01/11/2008 13:27

hey all, sorry i've not been about much recently. still have no heating so the house is simply too cold to sit at the pc. i'm barely home during the day if i can help it.... thank god i'm driving now and can pop out and do things instead of sitting around the house!

i had my GTT on wednesday and drove there and back... the hospital is an hour away! drove to tescoes 40 mins away yesterday. feeling quite proud of myself tbh. my friends mother bullied me into reverse parking at the community centre last night which was a new experiance but i got it straight in the space in one go.

so nice to be able to plan things like 'i think i'll do x,y & z today' as opposed to 'i wonder will dp be wiling to do x, y & z or wll we be stuck in the house all day'. and do you have any idea how long it's been since i wa able to just wander around the shops at my own pace instead of trying to get in and out before dp got pissed off?!

baba is doing well, busy little thing just like his big brother and sister were, it's funny i can feel exactly where the placenta is as there's a big area where i feel nothing on one side and then on the other i get constant digs and kicks and wriggles.

will glance through the thread now and catch up, hope you're all doing well.

BloodRedTulips · 01/11/2008 13:39

by the way, who else barely survived hallowe'en last night?

my 2 were up til almost 11 and consumed more sugar in one evening than they had all year up til that

they were by far the cutest good pink witch and little black cat on the planet though

spottyshoes · 01/11/2008 13:56

Big belated congratulations on passing your test BRT! (I think I must have missed that post sorry) It's great to have the independence isn't it. Hope you got good results on your GTT too.

mrsy · 01/11/2008 14:40

BRT - did you get the results of the GTT on the day?

herbgarden · 01/11/2008 16:20

I was v bah humbug and didn't answer the door to the halloweeners.....we had tears before bathtime so I finally got to sit down after my slightly fraught day and might have scared them off anyway !!.... We did have a little "party" for 4 x 2 year olds with halloween themed tea and my friends dd dressed as a cute pumpkin .

I think I might have this flu bug thing going round which might not be helping matters. Feel a bit fluey/sick/light headed so have taken up dh's suggestion and am going off to my parents later (who live 15 mins away) to sleep at their house and hopefully get a good lie in. Even if I wake in the night at least then I can lie in past 5.15am......I'm about to try the "magic light" thing with ds (where you set the light to come on in the morning and then gradually change the time each day and tell dc they can't wake you up til it comes on) - bought a bob the builder light and timer. May all be rubbish and ds may never get it (or not want to) but I'm getting desperate !! Quite a cute light anyway.....if anyone else with older kids has any great suggestions, let me in on the secret (keep the - oh they've not slept past 5.15am for 5 years stories to yourselves please - I live in hope !).

MarkStretch · 01/11/2008 16:48

I have made chilli and baked potatoes and invited people before fireworks and now it is tossing raining and my pretty new haircut will go all frizzy.

Tits.

herbgarden · 01/11/2008 19:13

Aw MS what a shame...it's chucking it down here too isn't it miserable.

Can you do indoor eating and send someone brave out to try to light fireworks and watch from indoors (not you or you won't be able to show off the new "do"??)

Hope you work sthing out !

MarkStretch · 01/11/2008 21:07

It's ok, we didn't go. Friend came over and we scoffed baked potatoes and chilli and watched Strictly.

Other friend who went to fireworks texted me and said it was horrendous, mud everywhere and pissing it down. They left before the main event so quite glad I didn' go now!

spottyshoes · 02/11/2008 06:53

Much kinder hair option MS ;-) Will be doing that on Wed and watching the display on the park opposite us out of our windows

Who got booted off Xfactor? I fell asleep at 830!!

MORRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNING btw!

laidbackinengland · 02/11/2008 07:11

Morning Spotty. I think Austin went. I have some vagur recollection of waking up on the sofa between 9-10 and seeing him go !

Fireworks + rain are never a fun combination. I'm hoping it's nicer next weekend as we're meant to be going to a bonfire party on a far. Muchos mud.

laidbackinengland · 02/11/2008 07:12

What is vagur ? Vague I mean.

KT1983 · 02/11/2008 10:34

yeah, it was Austin that went - It was Rachel and him in the bottom two - Im not a fan of either really - but Austin was better by far...
Louis Walsh must have been getting his own back on Simon!

Happy Sunday everyone!

spottyshoes · 02/11/2008 11:50

I wasn't a fan either. He was the young dark haired creepy one right?

Lazy Sunday for me been swimming 1st thing and to a friends for cuppa and baby play. Just put the lunch on and going for a nap - luxury

herbgarden · 02/11/2008 13:06

Morning all.....anyone else go out and got wet in the fireworks?? I drove over to my parents about 9pm (for quiet sleep -in !) - and it was horrible out there.

Had lovely lie in - my parents were still asleep when I left at 8.30am - roll on retirement eh ! and then have taken ds to softplay this morning in an effort to get him out the way so that DH would get started on the laminate floor in the dining room - he's halfway there ! Hurray ! No more digging squashed peas, rice and anything else ds decides to chuck out his chair from the grotty old carpet which we inherited.

Bit cold and damp here this pm....not sure what we'll be up to later.

What's everyone else up to ?

herbgarden · 02/11/2008 13:09

PS - quite surprised that Austin was out of x-factor- didn't particularly like him (ie the way he came across) but thought he was a half decent singer. The pub crooner Daniel or Rachel would have been my choices. He's never going to win over that lot and I'm not sure about Rachel?.....My money is on one of Cheryl's "girls" to win....

thehouseofmirth · 02/11/2008 16:17

Afternoon all! I think DH, MIL and I should get a medal for talking DS out to the fireworks last night. Despite dressing for it we were all soaked to the skin. DS had a fab time though so I guess it was worth it and all the chips I ate helped keep me warm. Halloween was a huge success too. Check out the photo of Darth Pumpkin on FB!

Have been out for huge Italian lunch today and then DS has been watching unsuitable televison whilst DH & I have a "lie down".

PinkTulips · 02/11/2008 16:20

mrsy, yep they rang me that evening with the GTT results and said my iron levals were good too...... was in shock actually as the irish healthcare system is not usually noted for it's promptness

spotty..... i live in a fabulously crazy country where i can drive without a full licence actually they've changed the law so technically i can't anymore but it's still 'at the discretion of the gardai' which basically means if i cry and look pathetic they'll not do much about it. it's always been the case here that if you're on your 2nd provisional you can drive without a full license holder in the car but as they've finally knocked the waiting times for the test down from over a year to about 10 weeks they've changed it. if i'm stopped though all i'll have to do is point out that i was within the law to drive when it changed and as i'm 5 miles from town with 2 and a bit kids i really have no option but to keep driving (they don't have to know i wasn't driving back then ).

i think i'll do the test when pregnant though..... figure it can't hurt to angle for the pity points.... or better yet he'll might be afraid to fail the hormonal fat chick

thehouseofmirth · 02/11/2008 16:44

PT that's mad! But then I often think that it's mad that people can pass their tests after a stupidly short period of time and then be allowed solo on the roads with practically no experience. At least by the time you pass your tst you'll have been driving lots.

I'm probably being very thick but why the change between Pink & Blood Red?

mrsy · 02/11/2008 17:31

Afternoon all...

We've has a busy day in the Y household, sorting out the sitting room as John and his mum are going to paint it tomorrow (if we can find the paint - oops!).

Although we did sleep in until 10.15 this morning (sorry herby and others), very much making the most of it while we can!

Had yummy butternut squash soup for lunch and I'm now making ratatouille for supper, although I'm going to go and have a bowl of cereal now, as I'm so hungry and feel really tired - it's like I'm back in the first trimester again...

We have our second 3D scan tomorrow, I'm so excited (and looking forward to the big breakfast I've been promised at one of my favourite cafes beforehand!). It will also be a good chance to see if she's a massive as the fundal measurements suggest.

herbgarden · 02/11/2008 19:15

HOM - my ds has watched more tv than I'd like this weekend - I can recite pretty much the words of the only Bob DVD we have... and he can now operate the portable DVD player ....I finished my book though this pm (made me cry !) whilst he was pottering and I lay on the sofa with DH swearing at the floor laying job. It looks pretty good though now it's done and DS has already scattered play doh over it.

Mrsy - get all those lie ins you can. I remember those days and it was lovely. Gloat all you like - you'll get your come uppance one day .

About to tuck in to sausages beans and jacket spuds - yum yum....
