My mum always says there no dish containing pumpkin that wouldn't be better off without the pumpkin. Am inclined to agree!

We carved our pumpkin two weekends ago, and its now so festering we've had to chuck it out. Looked pretty damn spooky, the decay just added to the general aura of horror. But it STANK.

Anyone been watching Dead Set, the zombie thing? Am hooked.

mslucy · 30/10/2008 10:19

pic of hump (it's def more of a hump than a bump) now on fb.
Had a fab time yesterday carving the most evil looking halloween pumpkin. The actual pumpkin flesh that came out looked a bit manky, but what do you expect for a quid.

MarkStretch · 30/10/2008 10:30

We are pumpkin carving today!

Have found a pumpkin pie recipe full of double cream and sugar, can't be that bad can it?

Mslucy I love your bump picture!

Rang midwife this morning who sent me to the Dr's for a urine check as been in agony with stabbing pains low down in bump and 2 hrs of very uncomfortable braxton hicks last night. Urine was all clear so it's obviously just me being a wimp

mslucy · 30/10/2008 10:34

DH was playing with some special software to make the colours look nicer - and my cardy look more glittery.

Would like to try your recipe MS - I think our pumpkin was just a bit low rent!

Rachrox · 30/10/2008 10:51

Hi Ladies and bumps!
Haven't been on for a while, hope everyone is ok? Sorry to those having a tough time lately, i'm sure everything will settle soon enough.
It's my ds 3rd birthday today so it's all go here! We got him a kitchen and he absolutely adores it, i was a bit worried about comments from other people but dh said 'go for it', it's a nice bright blue and red one so not girly at all. I think ds has some weird fascination with pumpkins...... he walks around with it and keeps hugging and kissing his!
On pregnancy note, i'm now 24 weeks and found out i'm having another boy, so i'm really pleased as that means 2 of each, so this is really the last one! But think i had a water leakage on monday but didn't want to scare anyone so just ignored it. It stopped by tues morning so just assuming it was nothing! I'm sure it get's more fretful with every pregnancy !
Well sorry for the mammoth post, take care......
Oooh what is everyone up to for halloween, anything interesting???

Rachrox · 30/10/2008 10:57

Oh and here's something to make you cackle chuckle.....
Ha ha
It makes me laugh everytime but i know i shouldn't really!
Enjoy your day.

mumoverseas · 30/10/2008 10:58

onward, can I ask what age your DC that you home educate are? (and would you like to educate mine!!!!!!) I guess you have to be very disciplined to do that (and patient?)

Rachrox, congratulations on another boy. I'm (if you trust scans in saudi) having another boy which will make my total two of each too! My last one was two children ago! Enjoy DS's birthday party.
We had our halloween yesterday as it was our friday (I know, very confusing) so thank god (allah) its all over now apart from the cleaning up and eating the sweets!)
we couldn't carve a pumpkin as they are hard to get here. last year the muttawah (religious police) went into the supermarket and removed them all a few days before halloween because they are religious! (REALLY NEED TO RETURN TO REAL LIFE!)

dinkystinky · 30/10/2008 11:20

Congrats on your little boy to be Rachrox. What cooker did you get DS? My DS loves those too, and I think we're going to get him one from the baby in February so would love to know which one you went for (as there is SO much choice out there!). He is also similarly obsessed with our pumpkin/Jack o'lantern - asking where it is every morning! Hope your DS has a lovely birthday.

My DS is going to a Halloween party tomorrow at our neighbours - dressed up as a little witch/wizard, complete with a broomstick. DH and I are escaping the trick or treaters and heading out to a gig tomorrow night (much more civilised way to deal with Halloween)....

swampster · 30/10/2008 11:37

I am sitting in my grotty little office just around the corner from you today, dinky!

dinkystinky · 30/10/2008 12:06

How exciting! Will keep an eye out for a hairy Swampster in the area - or have you had your lovely hairdresser around?

OP posts:
swampster · 30/10/2008 12:17

Being de-haired tomorrow!

MarkStretch · 30/10/2008 13:26

I want to do a meet up!

WAIL!

I live miles from anyone!

SOB!

mumoverseas · 30/10/2008 14:07

ooh, poor MS, don't cry! I'M MILES from anyone, 3,000 approximately! Norfolk is not that far is it? Actually, where are you in Norfolk? we looked at a fab house (online, no time, energy etc to fly back and see it)near Diss. In fact, there were a few really nice houses there and we were thinking of relocating to that area if/when we return to the UK. Do you know that area?

MarkStretch · 30/10/2008 14:20

MOS I'm in Norwich but my parents lived in Diss for years and have just moved down the road to a small village. My sister is nr there too in another little village. It's a nice area.

Friend just arrive- will post more later and seduce you into moving to NORFOLK!

onwardandoutward · 30/10/2008 14:23

mumoverseas - are you on fb? I'll answer your questions in messages there, but my family prefer me not to talk about them in specifics out on the big wide internetz

mumoverseas · 30/10/2008 14:58

MS, thanks for that, interesting to hear from someone who lives there. The area looks so nice and you can get so much more for your money than in our area.

onward, sorry, didn't mean to pry, just really interested in the thought of it. When my DD started at her boarding school last month I met a mum who had educated her two girls until age 13 and then sent them to the school. Just wondered how easy/hard it is. Yes I'm on facebook (the IT retarded one with no picture as haven't sussed that yet!) also, not been able to get on for a few days as internet is playing up at the moment. Can get on here but not hotmail or FB!

Neeerly3 · 30/10/2008 15:19

are we really in our third trimester??? cripes >

mrsy · 30/10/2008 15:46

Hi everyone -

mumoverseas - LOVE the idea of Bluewater, should increase the number of people that can come, as well.

Rachrox - me and hubby laughed so hard at that!

spotty - yes, we have friends who live in Lincoln, and Bryant homes have a new development in Witham St Hughs. I don't normally like new-builds, but the idea of just being able to move in somewhere is lovely, aspecially as it'll be when lo is a few months old that we'll be moving. Plus, the house we like (3/4 bed, 3 storey townhouse) is £147,995 in Lincoln, and would be £269,995 in Maidstone - OMG! Is that where you are?

Just got back from my midwife appointment and she measured the fundal hight at 27.5 (4cm too big - AARGH!) [hscared emoticon] Do these things fluctuate that much? She said that as my blood pressure and urine samples are fine, and as I'm not tiny myself it's not a huge concern, but she's going to recommend a few extra scans later on in the pregnancy (which will add to a total number of scans of about 10, instead of 2).

I'm really worried that this will stop me from being able to have my homebirth, and I'll be induced and it will all be intervantional and hospitally and nasty and really not what I was hoping for...

spottyshoes · 30/10/2008 15:57

Yes I am! We looked at Persimmon at W St H's but it was too far out of the City for us so we ended up on a new development on the edge of Lincoln. And I'm in a 4 bed 3 storey and trying to sell - they are crap for children!!! Although if they are that cheap in W St H then I may consider moving out there!!!

We will have to start a mini ante-natal group next Spring then as our l.o's will be the same age! and introduce you to the delights of the Lincoln baby social scene

spottyshoes · 30/10/2008 16:04

Oh and I constantly measured large for my dates with DS - at one point 7 wks bigger!! So I was sent for a growth scan and was told that he was small! MW always said she would be suprised if he was under 8lbs, Hospital said suprised if over 5lbs.... he was 6lbs 12oz

Sorry - I know that's not very helpful but it just shows that they cant really tell that acurately. I was told that unless he was going to be a 12lb+'er then it wouldn't have really effected my HB plans. (thats just our area - i'm sure there have been people that had 12lb+ babies at home??)

rosieposey · 30/10/2008 16:50

Hi all, hope your Halloween preparations are going well Have 30 peeps over on Saturday for fancy dress bash so will probably spend all day tomorrow cooking and keep a stash of sweets near the door for trick or treaters!

Went for Lo's cardiac scan yesterday but he was so busy and doing somersaults in there that she wants to do another one at 28 weeks which is fine as am having a growth scan then too and every 4 weeks thereafter. Baby was measuring exactly right for dates bar his stomach which is measuring exactly one week ahead but they said that was because of all of the sugar in my blood so still trying to work on getting those down but insulin dose just keeps going up and up and with not much success.

Been getting loads of tightenings and liagment pain to the extent that i could hardly walk yesterday so they hoiked me in to the delivery suite and did the usual stuff, twas a bit scary in there as i havent been in one for over 11 years! Also been quite a while since i had an internal ( yuk - i knew there was a reason that i didnt like them! )

Mrsy dont worry about your fundal height being a bit bigger, mine always was and none of my babies were over 8 and a half lbs, thats quite an innacurate way of measuring babys size too its just for general guidance.

Scan also showed that my placenta had moved down my womb a fair bit and was looking quite low since my last scan 5 weeks ago, not low enough for it to be a problem but low enough to be kept an eye on - hoping my boy will hold on long enough for the elective cs at 38 weeks anyway so that wont be an issue either way. I had no idea that placentas moved anyway so i guess what goes down must be able to go back up.

Well 24 weeks this Sat and only two weeks to go till wedding so just tying up loose ends although all my energy seems to have dissapeared in to the ether, still its exciting to think that it wont be long now

lardybump · 30/10/2008 18:00

evening all hope you are well.

Went to see HSM3 today for my nieces birthday and baby was doing lots of dancing in there.... It was really funny as you could see it....

have got a few days of work now so am going to be trying to get the house straight a bit....

MarkStretch · 30/10/2008 18:14

Rosie- I'm reassured to know I'm not the only one in agony! I've been getting really worried about the amount of pain the tightenings and stretching is causing me. I've been advised to take some paracetamol and ride it out- is that what they said to you? It's bizarre thinking that our bodies are making such a fuss when they've already stretched this far before!

Cream and sugar Pumpkin pie is nice.

As is Norfolk. Back to what I was saying, it has lots of lovely little villages, good schools and you're never far from the coast. And the houses are cheaper. We have running water and electricity now too

mrsy · 30/10/2008 18:17

rosie, I may have missed a previous post - but how come you had a fetal cardio scan? We're having one in two weeks at St Thomas' as I have a family history of cardio issues (hole in the heart and very fast heartbeat)...

spotty - Yay for mini ante-natal group!!! Our friends live near the carholme golf course, and we both really love the town - although perhaps not steep hill with a pram... whereabouts are you?

TinkerBellesMum · 30/10/2008 18:32

rosie I had the same problem, but she didn't manage to get a good view of the heart. FiFi went from head down to lying across whilst the MW was doing the scan. Seems the little pest knows what is wanted of her and does the opposite! Our echo was because TBD's son has aortic stenosis. All clear though.

I have scan 14(? I've changed that three times trying to remember how many I had last week) tomorrow, it's to check she's growing the right way after the last scan where she had dropped down, but I think the steroids may throw the results.
