anyone around??? daisy??
havent been around much this week, have seen that merry, obs and pinky all had their babies..congrats to you all. i will try to ctah up properly tomorrow but i need help.

ive had a hindwater leak today and independant midwife is saying guidelines are to induce after 48 hours, that i need to avoid infection and that she will test for group b strep.

now im worried, the birth pool is set up ready here, i want my homebirth not an induction and im worried where i stand if im group b positive. helllpppp. anyone else had this with their previous babies. my mind is all over the bloody place. and it was def my waters coming out and now wee. ive posted for the doulas in pregnancy but need advice on here if anyone around?

Tinkerisdead · 26/10/2008 14:03

oh and this is the day after i took raspberry leaf and evening primrose as daisy has posted above!!! bloody prostaglandins

LackaDAISYcal · 26/10/2008 14:07

Hey DW.....first things first. Don't panic!!

deep breaths, chamomile tea and calm happy thoughts. Adrenalin interferes with the labour process!

If it's a hindwater leak these can seal themselves and aren't as drastic as a forewater leak. Also, I'm pretty sure that the NICE guidleines state 96 hours, not 48 so you can ask for more time for things to start naturally. The main thing for you, in spite of all we have been talking about this morning, is to avoid sex as this might cause infection.

One of the women on my june thread had a hindwater leak and still went on to have her home water birth. She was about earlier and is a trainee doula so I'll see if she can pop over here with some reassurance

ahhhhh a friendly face, thank you. above post show read not wee, its not wee! i even made dh small it, poor sod, he must love me.

apparently nice guidelines used to be 96 and now are 48 im on their website trying to find it. do you think im better to check for group b or wait it out? ive spent so long outside of the nhs/hospital policies etc that the thought of infection prevention and "guidelines" is pissing me off.

on a positive note, im getting v v excited that this baby could be coming earlier than i thought

mum2becks · 26/10/2008 14:24

Hi doctorswife cant give any advice i'm afraid as my waters didnt break with 1st pregnancy but i'm sure daisy will find you the answers you are looking for! Stay calm like she says and concentrate on the fact you could be meeting your baby very soon

Just out of curiosity how did you know its your hindwaters? Interested as that is my concern this time round, my waters breaking or leaking but wouldnt know if hind or fore waters??

LackaDAISYcal · 26/10/2008 14:25

I'm just looking as well and all I can find is that if labour hasn't started spontaneously then induction can commence after 24 hours, but I can't find any upper limit. From what I've read on here though infection is less likely with a hindwater leak. Have you previously been tested for GBS? not sure why your IMW wants to test for it just because you're leaking. Can the infection cause premature rupture of membranes?

When is your due date? Have you got to 37 weeks yet?

And I know yorky has tested positive for GBS but she is still on for her homebirth.

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 26/10/2008 14:27

m2b...hindwater is usually just a trickle, as baby's head is "plugging the hole" as it were; forewater is any fluid that is in front of the baby's head and tends to come out in a big gush.

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 26/10/2008 14:36

errmm yes im 37+2. Ive not been tested for group b so think she wants to swab me for it, to ensure risks to baby is minimal now that waters have ruptured.in that if i do have gbs baby is more likely to be infected i think. do you know what yorky is doing about antibiotics in labour?

M2b as daisy says, midwife says is hindwater leak due to the small amount of fluid and nature in which it came out. I could cup it in my hand, like an eggcup full but it ran out9in the same was as bathwater does if you get some left in your fanjo - sorry if TMI)
i thought oh dear, bath water then realised i hadnt had a bath..i was naked so running around cupping it yelling to an empty house"i need a pad, i need a pad!"

LackaDAISYcal · 26/10/2008 14:40

bless DW.

I'm pretty sure Yorky has opted not to have any ABs but I can't be sure of that. I remember her talking about it ages ago though.

Keep on bumping your thread about it till someone sees it. Lulu was about earlier this morning, but not recently and I've put a shout out for Elvira on my PN thread.

Is it still trickling or has it calmed down now?

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 26/10/2008 14:41

pretty sure but can't be sure makes no sense......ykwim though.

Hi Drs wife, sorry - been finger painting with DS, I'm surprised she wants to swab you for GBS now, I thought it would take too long to get a result back.
I'm not having ABx which is how I can still have HB
My waters went early with DS 630 Tues am, he didn't arrive till 1214 Weds lunchtime, contractions didn't wake me till 3am Weds and I woke DH at 6 so you could have a while to go still without having anything to worry about. I didn't say anything to DH at the time (was lying in bed while he got dressed for work) but smelt the sheets when he'd gone! but it was only a little bit of water, not a big gush - sounds like what you've got.
Try caulophyllum to help contractions get started if you're into homeopathy
Agree completely with lacka, don't worry, it won't help

Tinkerisdead · 26/10/2008 15:07

Im actually really excited about things moving along, just dont want to be scaremongered into an induction. i discussed gbs ages ago with midwife and chose not to test back then. your right about results though i didnt think of that. im not worried about the waters, in hindsight i wouldnt have told midwife. i would rather sit back and think lets get this baby moving and not think about "the guidelines". ive always wanted natural homebirth and until midwife discussed the NICE stuff etc i was fine. i think im more concerned about being railroaded into something i dont want.

anyway, totally calmed down now, pad is dry so think im okay now. wish it would all kick off and get this baby out!!

anyway, now im calm, have i missed anymore births etc??

Yorky · 26/10/2008 15:17

Good for you Drswife, I was worried about being 'timed out' but drove to meet DHs grandma for luck (1.5hrs) then went for meal in evening with DH and contractors from work who he was supposed to be having a meeting or something with the next day.

Have to be honest and say that the risk of GBS infection for baby does increase after your waters have gone for longer, but now is too late to test so no point worrying. I was blissfully ignorant last time and wish I could go back to that way, part of me will be a niggling bit paranoid no matter how much I assume I was +ve last time

Glad we're not the only one with a birth pool ready to go - DS thinks its a trampoline - he doesn't seem to remember it at all!

LackaDAISYcal · 26/10/2008 15:19

...and breathe

woo yorky, I wasn't sure if you'd started your journey or not; glad you came to the rescue

no more babies yet DW, but fingers crossd yours will be here soon. And I'm sure your IMW will be behind you to help stave off the hospital and their policies.

Now get bouncing on that ball or dancing around the room to your favourite boppy numbers!

ohhh so i could actually really start in labour within next couple of days anyway really? would love to get it out now. dying to know who is in there.
my midwife is so excited at the "birthing area" we have the pool, loads of quilts, dh has even got an airbed in there, birth ball its like a big nest. midwives came and start clucking oohhhh this is wonderful, we'll put baby resuss equipment here and we'll sit here! dont want hospital...i want the nest!!!!!

the couple who had my pool last, asked if i wouldnt mind waiting for it. they promised their 2yr old that before it went back, he could have a swim in the lounge

Yorky · 26/10/2008 15:28

Not journeying till tomorrow lunchtime - nursery are supposed to be wearing DS out for me before we drive North!

Good luck Drs wife, it sounds lovely

Washing machine is full of teeny tiny sleepsuits - so exciting!

LackaDAISYcal · 26/10/2008 15:34

your birthing area sounds lovely DW.....with some low lights and candles, soothing music and essential oils burning it will be a little haven for junior to arrive into.

More natural induction tips are visualisation (your cervix opening, meeting your baby) and if you have any homeopathic stuff, massage oil with clary sage rubbed into your bump, but again it's one of these things, like the caulphyllium, to be a bit wary of.

there's a thread on caulphyllium in childbirth if you fancied a read of that.

whats your journey yorky, easier for me to ask and try to keep up whilst im on here than trawl the threads. im certain nov has the most members on it.

ohh that helps Elvira thank you. hmmm i think i feel the same actually that swabs are just introducing something else in there. 96 hours seems a good comppromise to review it. Interesting you say about kickcharts, mine has gone really really quiet today. i can feel it shuffling. when waters went it was kicking about happily, now its been really quiet with odd shoulder or leg brushing by.

im not worried as i can feel it but would the onset of labour make it quieten down? I can really feel the head is down so wondered whether its just settling down ready?

Heartmum2Jamie · 26/10/2008 16:27

Opps, didn't mean to post and run this morning.

EPO is evening primrose oil and is supposed to be a good source of prostaglandins, same stuff as in sperm, only better apparently! It won't make you go into labour if you are not ready, but helps effacement (thinning out) of the cervix if it isn't yet favourable. I used 2x 500mg capsules last night, had a firkle, couldn't find my cervix as I suppose it is still posterior (which it should be until labour is imminent), so just shoved them up as far as I could reach around the basketball I am carrying! I would recommend a panty liner as it can leave you a little oily/sticky. They must dissolve pretty quickly as had no comments from dh this morning .

Went out for a walk after lunch, not a nice vogorous walk as I would have liked, but nice to get some fresh air all the same. I am having some BH's now, but nothing to write home about.

Can't remember who asked, but I haven't lost my plug, but will give the squating a go at least. I suppose I can alternate that and bouncing on my ball.

PMSL at crusty crotch, i would be thinking same as you. mine is not crusty either but certainly as i can barely reach and certainly cant see it, i will air on the side of caution. there could be borrowers setting up camp down there and i wouldnt know!

i have started to trickle again....whistfully imagines being awoken at 2am tonight with contractions!
