just had the sweep but not holding out much hope - have been booked in for induction on Saturday which is too soon!! Should have been Monday night but the stupid labour ward is full on Sunday and Monday - asked if I can go in on Tuesday but they said no...need some serious labour vibes, I really really don't want to be induced and now feeling really scared about it all

star6 · 28/10/2008 15:47

Sending labour vibes your way. Is a sweep meant to induce labour? What do they do in a sweep? That's ridiculous that they are making you go in sooner then you need to! for you. There are still quite a few days between now and Saturday for things to start happening, though, so hopefully something will happen soon!

pepperrabbit · 28/10/2008 16:02

girlwiththemousyhair if it's any consolation I was induced with both DS's and laboured naturally with DD, and can honestly say DS2 was the "best" birth. HTH! Also if you are already late, then it should all kick off more easily (ignore CSWS's epic - she just wanted the longest childbirth thread )

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 28/10/2008 17:23

that really does help pepperrabbit - need all the positive induction stories I can get as I see my homebirth slowly disappear - am a bit terrified of the perceived downards spiral to all interventions including caeserean once you get induced...

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/10/2008 18:53

GWTMH - my main aim with my induction was to avoid a c-sec. Remember that although you'll go in on Sat, you don't have to agree to them rushing you through the stages, so you could well be there on their full ward days anyway!

lol at Polly vs Poppy!

Honeymoonmummy · 28/10/2008 19:55

My "hind water leak" appears to have been a false alarm. I rang the hospital just in case but had a maternity pad on for 3 hours now and nothing further.

My due date is tomorrow so I've arranged a family lunch- figured I might as well let sod's law take a hand!

Honeymoonmummy · 28/10/2008 21:01

Oh and I have a midwife appt tomorrow afternoon - are they likely to offer me a sweep and should I have one??

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 28/10/2008 21:20

thanks csws, i really want to avoid c section - hoping maybe they'll let me just have a sweep at first, though i really don't want to be sat on a ward for days lisening to all the other women in labour!!

star6 · 29/10/2008 09:17

How is it going today, girlwiththemouseyhair? Your pictures are beautiful, by the way! That baby looks like he's cozy in there Sorry... I mean... ready to come out...!

ronshar · 29/10/2008 09:38

Morning everyone.

Congratulations on the safe arrival of all the new babies.
Nuclear I think you can def join the top 10 fastest labour times of the October babies.
Sending loads of labour vibes to all still waiting. It is crap isnt it. Chocolate definetly helps. It is a miracle drug

Not been on much as I seem to be spending all my time either breast feeding or running around with the DD's! Poor William hates his car seat and protests every time I put him in it.

SmudgeyDoodle · 29/10/2008 13:45

GWMH - anything moving from your sweep? I've got an appointment at the hospital tomorrow to talk about induction so not sure what they'll say. I'm hoping that they won't decide they want me in early cos I think I'd go mad just waiting in hospital for things to happen. Bad enough at home
Our great news is that we've got our car back I've got quite used to going on buses but it's nice to know that we won't have to call out a taxi to get us to hospital. Perhaps this LO is very considerate and was waiting for car to get back before putting in an appearance. Saying that, my mum has just gone home after being here for a few days so it might be nice if it waits at least until tomorrow! Sending chocolate to all still waiting!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 29/10/2008 13:49

still here - seem to have pretty consistent braxton hicks but am sure they're not much mroe than that - I've had more intense ones. Good news is though my lovely supportive midwife has convinced the hospital to push back my induction til tuesday when I'll be exactly 42 weeks, which has meant I just feel so much mroe positive about it all - by that point I will be more than ready for an induction and in the meantime will be having sweeps every other day, reflexology tomorrow and just bought more RLT! on a mission now to birth this baby as safely and naturally as possible!

smudgeydoodle hope the hospital appt goes ok

SmudgeyDoodle · 29/10/2008 14:14

Good news GWMH. I'm hoping that hospital will say next Wed for us (42 weeks). I had a bit of a show and quite a few BH after my sweep last week but then all went quiet. Trying to make plans to do things in the hope that baby will come if it's inconvenient!

jenwa · 29/10/2008 16:40

Have addedd pics of Phoebe to profile and did my birth story the other day, feeling good that I achieved afew things

Sending labour vibes to you, its horrible when you are so near and just waiting. (or overdue )

Dammit, spent 3 hours at the hospital tonight because I thought I had a leak of my hind waters but they did a speculum and said they hadn't gone. Dammit.

SmudgeyDoodle · 29/10/2008 22:36

Honeymoon - just cos it's your due date did you think it ought to be your turn?
Happy night to everyone. Come on, let's get these babies out!

star6 · 29/10/2008 23:09

maybe they should start giving women due dates at 42 weeks instead of 40

Flum · 29/10/2008 23:54

Due date should be 41 weeks really. That is the date they use in the rest of Europe.

Anyway I am 40+3 and no signs. Would like to have it before kids come back on Saturday. Am wittling down the To Do list that has been building up since had last baby 2.5 years ago!!

perkypopsy · 30/10/2008 11:21

Hi Everyone Have tried to get on here a few times but as I haven't posted in a while I lost the thread and couldn't find my way back before I had to rush off and push my poor nipple into the monsters mouth...

Stella was finally encouraged to come into the world on Wednesday 15th october via c-section - tried an induction but failed - officially have the tightest closed, most posterior cervix ever known to woman!

Stella was a healthy 8lb 14oz and came out screaming - she is permanently hungry and I am close to giving up breast feeding cos it feels like knitting needles in my nipples . Have been trying to think of how to describe it to DH - was thinking is like her kicking him in the balls every time he gives her a cuddle...

Apart from my poor nips everything else is going well - she slept from 12-6.30 last night and is pretty chilled out most of the time as long as she has eaten loads and gets lots and lots of cuddles with her Mum (she's be happy as larry if she could just sleep on me all the time - which I loved at first but realised was less than ideal situation if you want to go to the loo in private or make a cupof tea...).

I'm totally knackered - going to rest up n sofa this afternoon

Hope everyone well - will have to put some time aside to read all the posts

perkypopsy · 30/10/2008 11:23

p.s. flum Stella came out at 40 +16 (10.52 so nearly +17) - she is so healthy and well-formed - she holds her head up and kicks like a mule so don't worry about your LO

Aubergenie · 30/10/2008 11:58

I haven't had a chance to post on here for ages as we've been having a bit of a feeding frenzy here. Stanley has hit the 3 week growth spurt and I have done very little except feed him almost every hour. Congratulations to those of you who have had your babies! I'm glad you managed to put back your induction GWTMH. Hopefully things will happen on their own before you have to go in. I ended up having to be induced as I wasn't dilating and my waters had broken quite a while before and my BP was high and, although it the complete opposite of the lovely birth I'd envisaged for myself (epidural, syntocin, continuous monitoring etc), I still managed to deliver him naturally, I knew when to push, despite the epidural and I view it as a positive experience.

Re due dates etc. I was told that normal gestation is 266 days, so if you know which day you conceived you can work out your due date more accurately that way, as it depends on how long your cycle is.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/10/2008 12:21

I just got a bit carried away I guess Smudgey, thought I was more damp than usual but they said just discharge

WHEN IS THIS BABY COMING OUT??? I am not the most patient person as you can see...if I have to wait the 14 days I'm gonna go INSANE!!!

Honeymoonmummy · 30/10/2008 12:22

Plus there won't be anyone left on this thread and I'll be all alone...

Sallypuss · 30/10/2008 12:37

honeymoonmummy don't think you'll be the only one left as I'm sure I'm going to be the last on the October thread - I'll turn the lights off when I leave! 40+7 today and been to the hospital this morning for a sweep which turned out to be unsuccessful. Back again on Saturday morning and then induction for me next week if nothing moves. Officially fed up now - even the novelty of being able to experiment by eating everything and anything I want is starting to wear off now
