KVG!!! stop telling people your choices and pick a name you like. Either that or tell em to take a running jump. Rowan is a gorgeous name, it could equally be for a boy or girl, no problem. Fck em!!! Who cares, don't let people put you off.

mrsflowerpot · 08/03/2005 16:47

I know a female Rowan. And there's Rowan Pelling too - so there is precedent! Lovely name. (I actually like it better for girls than boys personally).

redheadmum · 08/03/2005 16:49

I know a girl called Rowan - I thought it was for either girl or boy.

Anyway, doesn't matter what other people think, the name is for you and Dh/p to decide!

I remember people making suggestions to me for names on first one and it really annoyed me! It's just so personal, and family/friends shouldn't interfere. After all we all have our foibles about names (like memories of a horrible person at school called xxx which scar you for life etc) Forget 'em!

MrsWednesday · 08/03/2005 16:57

Rowan is a lovely name (and I thought it was a girl's name until my friend named her little boy Rowan last week!).

We just can't think of ANY boys names we like at the minute. We have a long surname that begins with W (it isn't Wednesday!) which rules out quite a few straight away. There are soooooooo many lovely girls names to choose from.

How lovely that your DP got to deliver the baby Lippy.

Glad that your appointment went well KVG.

My DH is brilliant with DS (I'm often told to 'go away mummy' which does have its advantages ), and was a complete natural right from the beginning, he just didn't seem to stress about things the way I did. He is bloody awful when he doesn't get enough sleep though.

nab · 08/03/2005 17:07

Just found out friend's boy has chicken pox. Trying to ring hospital to see what to do. Might not be able to have son mump jabbed tomorrow now. Damn! Only waited 18 months........

Whoops sorry MrsW I feel I should qualify that now - the only bloke I know called Rowan is Rowan Atkinson and that's why I said I prefer it for a girl. Of course, the little baby and his pears will probably never have heard of him so that will be totally irrelevant.

Cooperoo · 08/03/2005 17:13

I thought Rowan was a girls name too!! It sounds more girly than boyish to me. I like it. I wrote out loads of names for DH to look through this weekend but he has only ticked a few. I think we have decided but like KVG I go off them again. I like Podrick too, it is a great name. Babies become their name I think anyway.

Cooperoo · 08/03/2005 17:16

Sorry to hear that bit of news Nab. Missed your post. Let us know what happens. DD has just had chicken pox but didn't have any vaccinations to contend with at the same time.
Am off for today. Have a good evening everyone.

MrsWednesday · 08/03/2005 17:22

Sorry nab, missed your post too. Hope everything is ok.

charleypops · 08/03/2005 17:22

Here you are KVG! these are just right off the top of my head - There were loads more, I'll probably post more as I think of them. Not to everyone's taste I know...

Mercy (lots of gravitas)
Ivy
Violet
Hedwig
Chilli
Pearl
Nelly
Myrtle (love this, might get turtle though..)
Bunny
Maisy
Ginger

Oo Coop - another one liking Podrick! I might start on that one again.....oh dear, dp won't be happy if I do....

Lippy - thanks re my name , although I believe it's now in the top 50! I was very nearly your name!

charleypops · 08/03/2005 17:23

off to docs now (went yesterday and forgot my notes, so he sent me home again Post later x

LipstickMum · 08/03/2005 17:30

Good luck at the docs Charley, just the routine checks? If your name has now gone 'top 50' that makes it a little less appealing lol

Coop, you're so right, people/babies do become their names.

Charley, I was so at that silence!!! I can only speak for myself when I say I was 'digesting' it so to speak At first I thought it was a bit odd, which is why I shut the fck up. Now, I think it's very cute, has grown on me. Maybe that's because you're using it to refer to Pod..?

Annalise Margaret

We'ce struggled with girls names but this one has stuck.

On the whole in-law front one of my FIL's is arriving any time now (this one was MIL's 3rd hubby), so think yourselves lucky all those of you with just the one FIL!! i've got two living and one dead. Unfourtuenatly my MIL passed away in Aug but she was great. One FIL is reasonably disabled (the one i was moaning about in feb) and this one is just very wet!

if you had chicken pox as a child you'll be fine PG wise. Chicken pox are doing the rounds at DD's nursery and we're actually hoping for the spots to appear!! now would be a good time for her to get it!

nab · 08/03/2005 17:52

What if I haven't had chicken pox? I am nearly 25 weeks and baby already has a prob.

katzguk · 08/03/2005 17:55

hang on will do you a link to NHS direct, think you'll be fine anyway

this is what is says:
As an adult the symptoms of chickenpox in the pregnant woman are unpleasant. In addition, when pregnant there is an increased risk (approximately 10%) of developing pneumonia.

For the unborn baby, there is 1-3% chance of abnormality if the chickenpox occurs within the first 20 weeks. The baby may develop congenital defects, mainly heart defects, deafness and cataracts. After 20 weeks there does not appear to be an increased risk of abnormality.

However, if the mother contracts chickenpox shortly before or after giving birth, the baby may develop a more severe form of chickenpox.

Thanks for that. What should I do? So far arranged for a blood test form which I'll collect tmw and have blood taken then.

charleypops · 08/03/2005 18:54

Nab - someone posted here not so long ago about a chicken pox worry and they were told that after 20 weeks it's not really a worry if mum to be gets it. They also had a blood test for antibodies - I don't think she could remember if she'd had it herself - and she had the antibodies anyway. Even if you haven't had chicken pox yourself, there's a chance your mum may have passed on her immunity to you in the womb, then if you had ever been exposed to the virus subsequently, then that would have acted as a booster, so you'd be immune. I guess wait for the blood test results and in the meantime don't worry - it looks as if even if you get the virus, at this stage it's just not significant.
Why don't you do a keyword search in "current messages" and "archived messages"

charleypops · 08/03/2005 18:54

Lippy at the silence I was well used to that sort of reaction by then, so don't worry, in fact I thought it was funny! And I've gone off my name now it's top 50!

Glad you like some of those names (or at least being polite about them )

Katz - wow - all those FILs! Does that mean you also have multi MILs?

charleypops · 08/03/2005 18:55

That was for KVG ... Glad you like the names ....

LipstickMum · 08/03/2005 19:12

Lol, I was obviously joking about names in the top 50, before anyone gets the wrong idea.

My niece had chicken pox recently, very mildly, I had a few spots as a child. I saw her post 20 weeks - just! When she was possibly incubating, but so far we're all fine. It definitely is 'going around'.

LipstickMum · 08/03/2005 19:14

Lmao KVG. Well, I'm glad you take my 'stern talking to' voice seriously, dd certainly doesn't
