Tommy, so sorry to hear your news ((hugs))

Piggiesmum · 13/04/2005 21:43

Haven't been on for a while, been too knackered but (fingers crossed) starting to feel a bit better now.

I had my booking in app on thursday and the mw asked if i'd had the scan though yet. I said no so she chased it up when she went back to the hospital that afternoon. They must've been super-efficient cos i had a letter on Sat morning for a scan on Monday.

Elf I know what you mean about being nervous. It's totally understandable. I only had a 2 day wait but it was still long enough for me to worry myself sick. i think it was basically down to realising that if anything was wrong we would finally know and couldn't carry on in blissful ignorance anymore, if that makes any sense. But everything was fine, I bet you will be too

Our sonographer was lovely, and as soon as she put the thing on my tummy I could make out baby bouncing around before she even had chance to say "There's your baby" It was such a relief, I admit i had a few tears, glad it was dark in the room. Got some lovely pics too.

FastasleepTheInsomniac · 14/04/2005 11:06

Aww Tommy only just seen the news

I hope you're all doing ok...I'm currently tearing my hair out over my first scan on Monday.

jolovett · 14/04/2005 11:26

Good luck to all of you waiting for your scans soon.

I was quite lucky not to have too much time to panic as they booked me in for an early scan as soon as I had some spotting.

It seems as though there are so many different ways that local health authorities deal with pregnancies - surely there should be a certain set standard?

I had my first "When is it due today?" - it's official - I have a bump! There's no hiding it now.

Oh and by the way - is anyone carrying on with regular exercise classes? I'm continuing doing the ones I did before pg bt I was wondering up to what point can I continue?

FastasleepTheInsomniac · 14/04/2005 11:36

Exercise? ... yay for your bump! I have one too but I'm sure everyone thinks I'm fat

Lexie100 · 14/04/2005 12:54

Hi all, exercise.... i gave up my usual routine when i found out i was p due to being completely exhausted. I have since started swimming 2x week and pilates 2x week. More than that and i feel so knackered. I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and i haven't done sit ups for ages and i'm really careful about over heating. So ask at the gym and they will give you advice. ohh and i walk the dog for a hour a day. so i'm doing enough but not the running or weights i was doing before.

mishmash2 · 14/04/2005 13:13

Oh my god you lot are making me feel really guilty as I've just eaten a yummy wrap from Pret! I used to cycle to work but due to spotting from weeks 6 - 13 stopped and haven't lifted a finger since! Not sure when I'll start again either as far too tired when I get home to even contemplate the gym .

Def have a bump now and have relented and am wearing maternity clothes this week! All v embarrassing as everyone in the office got me to do a twirl etc in my new clothes.... was even told my bump's quite big today - didn't like that at all!!! I'm now 15 weeks.

Fingers crossed for you all having scans.

I had an unexpected visit from the midwife yesterday for my booking appointment. I'm 15 weeks. She said they had written to me but I'd never received the letter. Apparantly they were banned from doing bookings as they were so short staffed which explains the delay. I feel better now I've got my notes and I had my first scan last week so things are finally moving. I heard my little ones heartbeat (that is the best sound in the world) and have my new due date of 5th October which is 3 days sooner than I thought. I was due to have bloods taken yesterday but have decided to have the blood test which determines the risk of ds and sb as I'm 33 and didn't keep much folic acid down in early pg. I can't have that until I'm 16 weeks so am going to doctors for that next thursday. My kind midwife said she didn't want to stab me twice so will take all other necessary bloods then. Nervous about all the blood results, but happy with everything so far. Def have a bump but can still fit in my normal clothes at the moment

mawbroon · 14/04/2005 13:34

Hello. Had my scan on Tuesday and as far as they can see everything is ok. It was great seeing it wiggling around on the screen. DH was almost crying but we both managed to hold it together. Then did a mad rush around the country telling parents etc. I was sure that some had guessed, but they were all surprised. Bit worrying that we are so good at concealing such big news!! Anyone done any of these daft gender predictor tests on the net??? Two say that I'm having a boy including my Chinese horoscope. Must be true, eh?

morningpaper · 14/04/2005 13:37

Good to hear lots of positive news.

Elf: how's your day going?!

I invested in maternity tops last week when I caught sight of myself in the mirror before leaving for church and realised that my normal top didn't cover my tummy - leaving a big wodge of bare flesh and my BIG PANTS clearly visible! Yuck!

jolovett · 14/04/2005 13:59

I've invested in some maternity jeans - they're from Topshop and you can't tell they're maternity at all. Also bought a bikini ready to start my aquanatel classes on Monday - can't wait.

triceratops · 14/04/2005 14:04

Hi all. Scared myself witless last night with some spotting, still at it this morning. Went to gp who managed to hear the heartbeat which was a great comfort. Got a scan tomorrow morning. Wish me luck...

morningpaper · 14/04/2005 16:36

Trice: There's a few 'spotters' here - it's terrifying (I know) but is not always a sign of a problem. Bigs ((hugs)) for tomorrow! xx

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 16:40

There are loads of spotters on MN! I didn't realise how common it was, best of luck for your scan, hurry back and let us know how it goes!

jolovett · 14/04/2005 16:58

Good luck for your scan. I'm sure it will be nothing like mine. Spotting is very common by the sounds of it and only a small percentage actually means there's something wrong. My s-i-n is now 25 weeks pg and she has had heavy bleeding since the beginning, everytime they check everything is fine with the baby. Hope it's good news for you. Let us know asap!

Piggiesmum · 14/04/2005 19:42

mishmash I have done absolutely no exercise either. Just been too tired, but hopefully we'll soon all be having that 2nd trimester surge of energy I keep hearing about

Elf how did you get on

morningpaper · 14/04/2005 19:57

Where's Elf? Calling Elf...

Elf1981 · 14/04/2005 22:24

Elf's here! Very tired this afternoon, as seem to have been loads of places to show off pictures of little Elf!!

Was very frightened and snappy before the scan, as was terrified due to the spotting etc. Well, scan was fine. When she said "and there's the heartbeat..." I melted, and went "is everything okay then?" is this little tiny whimpering voice. Placenta was checked and all intact so spotting was put down to hormones. FIL did remind me tonight that people sometimes have periods thoughout their pregnancy, but still, it's always feels different when it happens to you.

Baby "Boo" (as DH has nicknamed the baby), was lying in a funny position, stretched across my tummy rather than up/down and looking towards my back rather than front. Typical for me to have a camera shy baby, must take out after DH! Did turn around later on so did get a couple of pictures, but despite feeling like I needed to pee Niagra falls, my bladder wasn't full (even scanned it to show me!!) enough to get a very clear picture. But I can see what it all is! So chuffed. Got next scan on 7th June. Next midwife appointment 28th April. All seems so much more real now!

Oh, and there's only one in there!!

I'm def in maternity clothes soon. Tops have become a priority, and have about six now. Trousers are okay, I have one really realiable black pair, which were a size too big, and I've lost 6lbs with morning sickness, so they'll do me for a while. Skirts are a different matter, as are jeans. I just cant bring myself to buy stretchy panelled jeans!

Hope everybody is all okay! Good luck for upcoming scans.

Love Elf xxxx

SusiS · 15/04/2005 08:31

good to hear all the scans are going well

nothing new here; just feeling very tired but i just can't sleep lately!!! wake at ridiculous times at night and sometimes can't go back to sleep at all! or lots of turning and tossing all night long grmpf

will have 16wk checkup on monday; don't really know what to expect - can't remember having seen a consultant last time! but i think it's got something to do with being 'high risk'?
we'll see

hope you all are 'blooming' by now

morningpaper · 15/04/2005 08:46

Elf: SO glad you are okay and the baby is a happy little wriggler!

I had some more spotting yesterday but it was so TINY only an obsessive maniac would have noticed (me) so I'm not too worried about it all now.

Susi: Did you get your blood test results back last week? Are you any the wiser?!

SusiS · 15/04/2005 09:06

oh yes, sorry!! well, gp called me on monday to tell me that blood so far was ok but iron too low; so have to take iron tablets now - and he was also a bit concerned with quite low b12 levels - but doesn't want to give anything just now; just keep an eye on it.

so phewwwww, not too bad

thx for asking!

aww spotting again! i know it must be worrying but try not to (for your baby) (((hugs)))

Yay for baby elfboo my DS was lying across too, looked like he was smoking a spliff on the photo! With his arms behind his head all relaxed... can't way to see this little one..

Susi I'm a complete insomniac at the moment and I'm either hyper and funny or I have my eyes propped open with matchsticks all day... DS is still running rampant..my iron's permenantly low, can't wait for my blood tests lol

Bring on Monday and my scan I'm already imagining the worst and I haven't had any spotting for goodness sake! I have the 'is there even anything in there at all?!' feeling..

fastasleep · 15/04/2005 09:17

Spelling gone to pot... brain melted

Jockey · 15/04/2005 10:02

Fastasleep - I know what you mean about the "is there anything in there" feeling - it's always a surprise to me when they actually find something! But a relief as I was beginning to wonder if this was all in my head this time - a phantom pregnancy!! Still feeling nauseous and sick - it seems to be going on longer than with my sons but similar to my daughter - not saying this is a girl though as pregnancies are all different, whatever the sex of baby(so midwife says anyway). Could be an awkward boy, making me suffer (bless him!).

Does anyone have a real gut feeling about the sex of their baby yet? I know some of you will be finding out soon...

Well done Elf and good luck to anyone else about to have a scan!!!

bonniej · 15/04/2005 11:22

congrats on your scan Elf, so pleased everythings ok. Glad your bloodtest results were ok Susi, must have been worrying not knowing what was going on! About gut feelings, I have a real gut feeling mine's a boy and am desperate to find out. Midwife said did I ask at my 14 week scan, but didn't as I thought it would be too early, but she reckons sometimes they can see even that early on. Roll on May 13th when I can find out for sure. Not bothered whether boy or girl as have one of each already (my ds is 16 now though so only have girly baby clothes )
