God I'm being really thick today. Have just re-read your post more carefully, alterego, and you did say about an amnio at 20 weeks. I'm really sorry, just ignore me. I've just woken up from a nap and feel very woolly and stupid. I'll just go away now...

alterego · 08/04/2005 16:00

I was told risk for CVS and amnio was the same. I'm 13 weeks today so could have had the CVS yesterday if I'd wanted to - but they did say that I could go away and think about it and still come back and have CVS so maybe it's like the nuchal which I found out you can have up until 13+6. But I'm happy with my decision and if the risk of amnio is lower then it's good that I've put off the decision. (although I'm deliberately not dwelling too much on the consequences of a poor amnio result)

alterego · 08/04/2005 16:02

Didn't think you were being stupid at all - made sense too me - perhaps all pg brains work the same way. I suppose the advantage of CVS over amnio is that it can be done earlier (I presume).

Moomin · 08/04/2005 16:05

yep - that's what my gp told me. whatever, it's a hard decision anyway. I've done the same as you and thought about my choices up to the point and then blanked the rest. I figure pg is worrying enough without putting extra pressure on your plate. We can all cross those bridges when we get to them! I've decided as far as an amnio if needs be.

bonniej · 08/04/2005 16:35

Just had scan, all well here thank goodness. Only one baby which is a bit of a relief and my dates are spot on, 14 and a half weeks. Makes it all real now. It was all over really quickly as well. Sorry your sonographer was not very nice, morningpaper, but glad scan went ok. I've got my 20 week one in about 5 weeks so am looking forward to that. Will ask the sex even though dh convinced he saw 'bits' today and that it's a boy. let's see if he's right. Feel better now I know everything is ok

triceratops · 08/04/2005 16:57

Ohh bonniej I want a boy. And a girl. But def not more than one baby

Jockey · 08/04/2005 17:02

Alterego I'm more or less in the same boat as you. Age 40 and risk is 1/300 at the moment. No further tests recommended by consultant but now wondering if I should be probing further. I'll have a chat with the midwife about it.

Last time (age 37) it was 1 in thousands (can't remember exact figure) but blood was taken from me for a combined result with the nuchal scan (a private clinic). This time it was based purely on the scan & my age as far as I can make out. It's all rather confusing isn't it, but am minded to do the same as you i.e. see what they say at the 20 week scan. With my dd they frightened me to death at 37 weeks hinting it was possible she might have Down's - I thought oh well this baby's coming anyway (stuff you!) - she was fine!!

Glad everyone's scans went ok - it's a nuisance that they seem to be over so quickly isn't it. I'm sure the 20 week will take much longer though - about 15 minutes?

Afraid I also fell asleep during last night's programme, but the bit I saw looked fascinating...

morningpaper · 08/04/2005 20:26

Did anyone else's sonographer NOT write anything on your Maternity Notes? Mine said there was no point because I had the print out. I thought they were SUPPOSED to complete it after every appointment?

Moomin · 08/04/2005 21:26

yes they are. sounds like you had a right old cow. With dd I had to have 3 scans: 1st two sonographers were lovely but 3rd was a bitch; so surly and uncommunicative. We had her for a 32 week scan to see if my low-lying placenta had moved up. Whilst we were there we asked if she could have another look at the baby's sex - we'd been told at 20wks it was a girl but wanted a double check. She said 'I'm not here to see if you've got the sex you want, I'm here to look at the placenta.'
Placenta was still low-lying, in fact it turned out to be placenta praevia grade 4 but she packed us off without checking when we had our next appt and without warning us about how dangerous the condition was. We made a complaint about her after dd was born and the hospital changed their policy on giving info for pp.

Our sonographer yesterday was sooo nice and it really makes the scan special. Feel very aggrieved for you, mp.

Elf1981 · 08/04/2005 21:51

Well, today I had a starve on. Felt like I'd not eaten for weeks (which I had, but just not the usual amount) so today I've had loads of food. Now I feel sick and cant stop burping
Woohoo, got my scan in less than a week! Cant wait to see if everything is okay.

Bloody shattered (been really busy at work) but its 9:45 and I'm not in bed yet so maybe things are looking up!

Hope everybody is well. Thanks for all your kind words / advice about blood while throwing up, I'm a lot more calm about it now. Probably from my nose - been a bit bunged up since Easter so it wouldn't surprise me!

to all of those who have had your scans, glad to hear everything is all okay.

bonniej · 09/04/2005 08:50

morningpaper, I didn't get anything written on my notes as I still haven't had any yet (waiting for booking apt still no news) but the sonographer did ask me for them so I assume she would have written something down. Have your dates been confirmed as I think you are due same day as me 8th October?? I've got my 20 week scan on the 13th May so it's only 5 weeks away and I can't wait to find out what I'm having. Good to see you're eating Elf, and good luck at your scan

triceratops · 09/04/2005 09:15

I am taking ds to York today for a special treat. We are going to go on the boat up and down the river. The sun is shining and I am hoping that it won't snow in the very near future.

I am so jealous of you people getting scans. I can't wait another six weeks. Hope all you folks worried about abnormalities manage to get the reassurance you need.

Did you all see that thread about the quads . If all turns out ok she is going to have five babies under 1. I think I would go into a decline at the thought. My bump is currently bigger than it was at 24 weeks last time, I have measured it! I think I must be having an elephant.

SusiS · 09/04/2005 20:06

dp, ds and i went out to a shopping center today! and i actually managed to buy a few things for myself this time - maternity clotes (2 trousers and a few shirts; all more summer clothes)

oh, and i a finally got my app through for 16 weeks check up (18th april)

hope everyone's doing fine

morningpaper · 10/04/2005 19:06

Special trip today to buy CLOTHES from H&M - got some tops and a dress. All a bit hideous really but maternity clothes are never very sexy. Hoping to keep wearing my hipster trousers for a while - under the bump!

Tommy · 10/04/2005 21:28

I've finally had my booking in appointment today. My midwife friend came round and did it - very civilised - although my FIL kept popping his head round the door then getting very embarrassed when he over heard things like "uterus" and "menstural"...

Have had a bit of spotting today though which is making me a little bit anxious - that's happened to lots of you hasn't it? Can you reassure me please?

Elf1981 · 11/04/2005 07:15

Tommy, I had spotting for almost a week. I read up on bleeding in various books / sites.
Some of it seems very scaremongering, like "you must go to hospital right away" etc, but a lot I read was able to give possible reasons.
I put mine down to hormonal changes when I would have been due a period, but have to wait til my scan on Thursday to make sure everything is all okay.
At the end of the day, I rang the hospital when I was spotting, and they were very unconcerned regardless of the colour, and just said I had to be worried if I had pain, started soaking a pad in less than an hour or had clotting.
Thankfully mine was just spotting. If I were you, I'd ring your midwife, just for reassurance.

Elf1981 · 11/04/2005 07:17

Question for you all - anybody suffering from feeling reeeeeeeeeallllllly hot? Last night I felt like I was on fire and had to open the bedroom windows and made my DH freeze all night. Bloody freezing when I woke up this morning, but last night I was so hot.
Is it just me?

Tommy · 11/04/2005 08:08

Thanks Elf - I psoke to the midwife about it yesterday. She said to call her this morning if it got heavier or there was any pain. I certainly haven't had any pain with it and there's not big clots or anything. I will ring her this morning anyway - thanks

morningpaper · 11/04/2005 08:31

I've had a cople of spotting incidents too. Not related to my usual period cycle though, just seems to be for no reason. Didn't happen when I was pg with my daughter. I've had two scans and both show no problems that they can see. Just seems to be one of those things. Doesn't stop me worrying of course.

SusiS · 11/04/2005 09:05

nope elf, not just you!!! i remember it from my last prgcy - was in winter - and i was in tshirt and everybody else in sweaters

must be all that hard work your body is doing all the time!!!!!

sorry to hear about your worries!!! but i agree, if it's only a bit of spotting can only be hormonal. try to stay relaxed - your baby will appreciate it

OP posts:
FastasleepTheInsomniac · 11/04/2005 09:37

I did that last time elf... I would wander around our flat in my knickers and strappy top with all the windows open (tiny flat with huge windows) DH would come home and instantly turn into an icicle!

jolovett · 11/04/2005 09:45

I'm really warm as well which I'm very surprised at as we're living in a caravan at the moment whilst we're building our house - so I'm usually freezing! The last week or two I've been so warm it's making me uncomfortable and I can't sleep.

Well I didn't get my welcome pack - I completely forgot about it until I was back home. A girl I know went in before me and she came out with one. The midwife who took my blood managed to hit a main vein and there was a mess everywhere so was distracted by that!

Got to go back in two weeks for more blood tests and a medical so I'll ask about it then. My 20 week scan is 17th May so can't wait for that and we've also booked a 4d scan for 15th July.

The last few months have seemed to drag endlessly but now a bump has started showing and there's more appointments it seems to be speeding up a bit. Anyone else finding this?

Hope you're all well!

SusiS · 11/04/2005 09:58

agreed! up to 12 weeks none really takes you seriously - iykwim! and then suddenly you are 'officialy' pregnant

we've got a lovely sunny day here! but i still feel soooooooooo tired! hohum, the sun should do me good

OP posts:
FastasleepTheInsomniac · 11/04/2005 11:18

Yay @ being officially pregnant lol... the first 3 months really do drag though don't they! I can't wait for my scan.....I wish we could afford the 3d one sigh

mawbroon · 11/04/2005 13:29

Afternoon ladies. Just popped in to say that I am getting my 12 week scan tomorrow. This might finally make it sink in that I am pregnant! I woke up the other morning and said to DH "guess what, I dreamt that I was pregnant" and then remembered that I was. Ooops
If all is ok with the scan then we will go public and tell everyone (nobody knows except my boss) and then I can tell you a bit more about myself!
bye for now
