Hi there

Did the test last night even though DH wanted me to wait a few days. I wanted to just do it to see if i could have a glass of wine or not and hoo-bloody-rah after 6 months of TTC number one i got a BFP on the free ClearBlue digital test!

So need to get a GP appointment but reckon i am due on 5 June 2009.

Anyone want to join me?

Can you drum up some sudden and violent sneezes, that make people realise you are infectious and should be sent home immediately ? !!

flynn1984 · 03/11/2008 09:52

Tried that been sitting here coughing all morning and a couple of people have mentioned how pale I am...its just a lost cause i'll be here till 5pm

LittleSarah · 03/11/2008 10:19

Morning people, and welcome doris and snowwombat (so sorry about your little boy).

I am feeling a little paranoid again today, don't feel sick and scan tomorrow. Will be 9+3 and things went wrong about 9 last time, as I'm sure I've mentioned! Argh. I know I'm just being silly.

Anyway, good weekend with the flitting. Managed to get everything moved fairly easily and have unpacked most stuff already. Dh is picking up a last few bits and bobs today.

Really must do some uni reading today, been so distracted with move and pregnancy and ill and tired feel I've hardly done anything. Trying to be positive about that, plenty of time left!

llynnn - Glad to hear your spotting is gone. I'm sure it was nothing.

I won't be having amnio or anything I think as I'm under 35. Unless get high blood test results and then I don't think I'll bother either. Not sure, but don't think I could terminate anyway.

Flynn Hope you feel better soon.

Good morning all.

What a weekend in our household. Fireworks of all kinds!!! My dp's dc came to stay last week and by Friday I was on my last legs - utterly exhausted - as had had no chance for a nap all week and had been cooking for 4 every night, and planning birthday party for dp on Sunday. Anyway, he dared to mock me when I started stuttering on the phone, and when he came home he laughed at me when I said I was stressed and tired (meaning: I couldn't ever be as stressed and tired as he gets as my life is one big holiday by comparison!!!). I was livid - and really let him have it. I went to bed and did almost nothing all Saturday - which actually did me the world of good - he was beginning to act quite contrite by Saturday evening - I think it occurred to him that he might not get a birthday this year the way things were going!!!

Anyway, all back to normal this morning which is nice, although mountains of housework but can do that bit by bit during the week.

Just quickly, I was 38 when I fell pregnant with my dd and my test results for Downs were 1:2900 - one of the best amongst all my younger friends. So don't assume age will give you a poor result. I am getting a nuchal at 11+5 but had a chat to the sonographer, as all the media obsession with age and abnormalities was beginning to stress me out. She said even at my age (now 41) about 1 in 5 woman will not fall into the danger category and even though I start at a 1:50 risk (approx and based purely on age), if the nuchal is good, the facial features look normal, and bloods are good, then my result again could be in the thousands. And it's worth remembering the danger category of 1:300 or 1:150 (there seems to be some debate over this at the moment) is still small small odds of something being wrong.

The next two weeks are tough ones aren't they - but then it all starts to look and feel so much rosier - good times ahead - not too far now.

chocciedooby · 03/11/2008 10:27

Hi ladies
Is anyone else burping a lot??
I am not a burper at all normally but since pg. they just keep coming. It's horrible. It seems to be part of the whole nausea thing for me. Don't know how I am going to get through another 4 or 5 weeks of feeling like this.
Flynn feel for you being ill at work.I would leave and go tuck myself up in bed.My ex-work place used to have the same attitude as your place but you have to think of yourself more than ever now. Hope you get some rest.
Good Luck with your scan tomorrow littlesarah.

Salet · 03/11/2008 11:30

Hi, I'm new to all this, at 42 I'm finally pregnant for the first time! I'm due in June. So would like to join the group.

I've been having a spot of bother trying to work out what I'm supposed to do next. My doctor just took my blood pressure and asked me to let her know where I wanted to go for the anti-natal care. I've been hunting around the web for pointers but all I have found out is thar in my area (Epsom) we have very poor maternity ratings for the hospital maternity units. Any advice?

Thanks

daisy5 · 03/11/2008 11:32

littlesarah - thinking of you. I've just made it past 8+5 when my lo didn't make it and it is such a good feeling. Lots of good sticky thoughts to you.

daisy5 · 03/11/2008 11:36

salet - I had dd 3 years ago in St Peters, Chertsey and had a great experience with a good midwife although it has a poor rating. I would have liked to go to Kingston but it wasn't an option - although some say that because it is a large teaching hospital sometimes they move you through quite quickly. What are your choices?

Salet · 03/11/2008 11:39

Hi

My EDD is 20th June...new to all this at 42 after trying for a very long time! Any advice on what I should be looking for in antinatal care? I'm in Epsom in Surrey, any recommendations?

thanks

Salet · 03/11/2008 11:42

Hi Daisy5,

I have no idea what the choices are my GP just said let me know where you want to go? Are they supposed to give you a list of options?

daisy5 · 03/11/2008 11:56

Usually you have the choice of two local NHS hospitals, although maybe some people have more choice than that. You could ring the midwifes at your surgery and ask them so you can look into it.

Or, on the NHS website - go to Find Services - select Maternity and then put in your postcode. I get this as your options (copy/paste link below)

www.nhs.uk/ServiceDirectories/Pages/ServiceResults.aspx?Place=epsom&Coords=1610,520 7&ServiceType=Maternity&JScript=1

It's good to get in quickly as they can fill up quite quickly (well Kingston does anyway).

Here is a link to a Telegraph article on the ratings of maternity services (note they use the Trust names - not the hospital names).

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1576519/NHS-trusts'-maternity-care-ratings-in-full .html

Hope that is some help. I have to go and pick up my dd.

D5

p.s. or you may want to consider private as you've tried for some time to have this pregnancy. Apparently for £3,000 you can get part private part NHS treatment. I'm no expert on this, but my friend told me it was the starting rate for semi private care. I'm sure someone else may know more. I sure would love some private care right now - my new local NHS service is a bit 'limited' and at 41 I feel uncared for - private can be quite comforting.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 03/11/2008 12:15

TMI alert do not read if feeling unwell

morning all,

that sounds brighter than I feel.... in fact I feel like I've just passed a cricket ball, pregnacy, lack of fluids and the anti emetics i'm taking ( for ms) have all conspired to bung me up to the eyeballs and OMG!!!!! It was soooo painful, a word of warning start getting "things" sorted once it gets past day 1 as I left it thinking things would improve...they didn't Have now started on lactulose which is a bit of an improvement!

Anyway I did warn you Gin

Anyway MS seems manageable this am I may try and gop and get dd1's haircut this pm as she looks like a shaggy sheepdog atm. Am i the only person relying on cbeebies to make the day bearable ( not normally just with the MS)

Flynn I hope you feel better soon, I hated working this part of the last two pregnancies, so my heart goes out to you

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 03/11/2008 12:19

PS I'm finding chewing gum and even better mint humbugs help with the nausea, dreadful for my teeth but atm I just don't care!

Jools1 · 03/11/2008 12:35

Doris - if you can stomach it, I swear by Activia Bio Yoghurt for keeping things regular I know it is probably difficult with the nausea, but I wonder if the plain version might actually help ?

I had severe gastroenteritis in March and couldn't eat for a month - GP suggested Activia so I got a big tub of the plain stuff and started having a teaspoonfull every so often - it really felt "right" as it went down, as if my body really needed it - got to be worth a try Anything to avoid the cricket ball

Tee2072 · 03/11/2008 13:46

I'm starting to have the same problem, Doris but not quite as bad as yours sounds!

I guess I should just be grateful that I am not having ms!

ermintrude13 · 03/11/2008 14:24

Hello all, may I join you? Due 20 June, already have dd (10) and ds (6).
I wanted to say to Salet - how rubbish is your GP?! The info daisy5 gave you is all good stuff, but someone local should really talk you through it. You could ask for a booking appointment (with a midwife) at your GP to discuss the options, especially important if it's your first time. My bkt appt is a week tomorrow, when I'll be a little over 8 wks. And I'm 41 - will be 42 when this babe comes - so have to be under a consultant at the local hosp too. Having had 2 easy, if brutal, natural deliveries without a doctor in sight this is a bind for me, but for a first-timer may be reassuring!
And I'm finding sucking sherbert lemons helps prevent throwing up, until you stop, at which point the nausea returns. My tongue is sore already!

Tee2072 · 03/11/2008 14:59

Welcome ermintrude!!!

Man there are a lot of June Mums to be!

I think I forgot to welcome Salet!!

And welcome to anyone else I missed!

llynnnn · 03/11/2008 18:28

hi
welcome to all the newcomers and huge CONGRATS!!

i have felt so so sicky today!! have eaten loads of biscuits etc too to try and kill it but its just not shifting!! pleased really tho after last weeks scare i want as many symptoms as possible to stop me panicing!!

ermitrude - mmm i love sherbet lemons, havent had them for ages!!

doris - i have to admit that dd has watched more cbeebies than normal these last few weeks!! i do feel bad about it but try to make the time i do feel better really productive!

flynn - hope you managed to survive the day and get a good nights sleep!

Tee2072 · 04/11/2008 05:42

Morning all! Up at 4:45 again, but I went to bed a 9!

Today is my booking in appointment! Kinda nervous, very excited!

I'm telling work tomorrow, although I think they already suspect since I've given up fags, caffeine and most refined sugar! Had a dream last night that the CEO said 'oh for f**ks sake', which is what he said when my co-worker told about her 4th pregnancy! I may be actually disappointed if he doesn't say that!

Hope everyone has a fab day!

BobsWendy · 04/11/2008 08:12

best of luck today tee, you lucky thing! I've another 2 weeks to go for my booking appointment.

Had crap nights sleep, kept waking up freezing cold, and then when ds2 woke just before 7 I was sweating.

Jools1 · 04/11/2008 08:58

Welcome Ermintrude and Salet

I'm another ageing first timer - will be 39.5 when this baby arrives. Somehow the time was never right before, then I decided time was running out and we started trying not that long ago really so I've been extremely luck. Not sure what I'd have done without Mumsnet collective wisdom though when I have (frequent) panics about what is going on and how I'm going to cope !

I'm not under a consultant, but they have threatened to refer me if my weight goes much higher. The skirt I'm wearing this morning was fine last week and is now officially uncomfortable - I've had a major bump growth spurt

To be honest, having had 2 nights of less than 3 hours sleep, and having to get myself to work, I'm now seriously wondering how I'll cope - but I guess you just do somehow

My hospital trust is classified as worst performing, but I think it is because they don't offer nuchal scans and only started offering dating scans from September - if that is the reason for the rating, then I'm not too bothered - good thing really as I don't have much choice !

Well, I'm rambling (probably cos of lack of sleep), so had better go and do some work

Tee2072 · 04/11/2008 09:12

Bobswendy I am not sure how lucky I am, as I get in early due to diabetes! I'd rather not have diabetes and have to wait another 2 weeks! But I appreciate the sentiment!

jools I am exhausted! I can so relate, so very little sleep, draggin' my ass to work!

BobsWendy · 04/11/2008 09:43

oh soz tee, ah well still good to get the ball rolling.

I'll have to bring my two DS's (3 and 20 months) to my booking in appointment, does anyone think that'll be a problem? I've not done the UK system before. Cheers.

flynn1984 · 04/11/2008 09:47

Morning all

tee I'm the same as you have my booking appointment today (although I don't have diabetes)...only found out about it last night and the midwife is coming to my house so no hospital trip for me

I'm feeling worse than what I was yesterday but thought I'd feel sorry for myself if I didn't go into work but at least I finish at 2.30pm and I have my 8 week scan tomorrow at Early Pregnancy Unit so I don't start till after 10 tomorrow morning. As for symptoms, they have basically disappeared apart from slight sickness so starting to get paranoid!

Roll on 3 weeks time for my trip to Dublin (sorry bobswendy for going on) and straight after Dublin should be my big scan at 12 weeks. Trying to decide whether to have the nuchal scan done....

TheLittleMermaid · 04/11/2008 10:14

Doris - I'm with you on the cbeebies front. I feel so guilty. I know something's wrong with the world when we're watching the same charlie and lola episode for the 2nd time! That's only happened once I promise! I can't wait for this exhaustion to pass...

Sherbert lemons. Mmmmm, I need to get me some more of them.

Bobswendy - i took my DS (13m) to my appt. MW didn't mind at all but i found it a nightmare as was lunchtime and DS ended up tipping blueberries all over the surgery. Oh dear. I think they're used to it though.

Hope everyone's feeling better soon and welcome and congrats to the newbies!!

xxxx

p.s. I miss those halloween smileys. looking forward to the christmas ones now......
