hi all. just catching up with all the messages.

reading about bellies getting bigger - mine definitely is showing but I'm trying to hide it with big jumpers but getting more difficult. I'm going to have to tell people soon but am hoping to have a scan first.

i'm also going to invest this time in a good pair of maternity jeans - my last pair just kept falling off me even though I bought my usual size as instructed. where did you get yours? I heard topshop has good ones.

still nauseous and trying to combat with snacking though it's not really working. nothing sounds good anymore someone mentioned a cream cheese and ham sandwich which sounds divine.

frazzled hope you're not too worried about spotting, easy for me to say, I know. but do try to relax.
will try to keep up with you all.

hope all having a good evening.

Evening all! Haven't been around for a few days - yesterday was my first day back at work(!) so we'd been trying to get organised over the weekend. Work ok, but I haven't told them the news yet!

Frazzled - hope everything is ok, and that you aren't getting too stressed. Much easier said than done, I know.

My ms seems to have eased off a bit now, it's just there all the time, but at least I'm not floored by it anymore.

Momino - it's really hard to work out what to eat isn't it? I just don't fancy whole food groups (can't face fish at all). Mashed potato and toast with marmite have been doing me well. I haven't been able to have cereal at all as can't face milk, but all of a sudden last night I had a craving for a banana smoothie (made with bananas - obv - vanilla ice cream and milk). Hit the spot, but no way I could drink it now!

Is anybody else sleeping badly? I'm having real trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. Driving me mad.

One more question, sorry. I'm still getting crampy, pre-periody backache fairly often. It's not really painful, just there, and is very rarely at the front, just in my back. DH thinks I'm worrying too much, but do you think I should be worrying? I could try to call my midwife, I haven't actually seen her yet but she called the other day to make my first appt (2 weeks time). It's funny, it's the same mw I had with DD. She's very nice, but just seems really young; well, she did 2 years ago, maybe she's really aged since I last saw her!

bekkaboo · 07/10/2008 20:18

Hi just qiuckie, sea sick bands really helping, not been sick today nor feel neauseos, worth a try xxim amazed

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/10/2008 20:29

Thanks everyone for your lovely supportive messages. I just got a bit of a shock. Have had a bit more spotting and slight cramps this evening but nothing catastrophic. (In last pg bled loads and loads at a time and DD still hung in there so I do know it's possible. The big bleeds were never accompanied by cramping though which I think may be a key point.) Trying to be sensible and not worry about it too much. At least I've got a scan on Thurs so I'll be able to see what is what then.

flippineck - I am sleeping really badly, like you. Find I'm either waking up to wee, or to feel nauseous for an hour at a time several times a night. It's awful. It does stop though at the end of the first trimester (or at least it did in my other pregnancies so fingers crossed!)
I wouldn't worry too much about the cramps as long as they aren't severe or accompanied by any other symptoms eg bleeding. However, if you are concerned I'm sure your midwife will be happy to put your mind at rest.

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 07/10/2008 20:32

Im not sleeping well at all flippinheck
The last 4 weeks (Im 9 weeks gone on Friday)it has been near on impossible to sleep at night, I have been waking up 4 or 5 times and being awake for at least 30-60mins, I have a two year old and work full-time so really need my sleep!lol! But during the day all I want to do is sleep! I struggle to get to sleep once im in bed too which sucks because Im usually dying by that time!

On the ms front im hoping its wearing off, have been really ill last week and been told to stop taking my iron tablets and so far that seems to have worked but only on 2nd day of not having them so we'll see!

Is anyone else on 2nd baby after having a HUGE first and pooping it already??!!!

flippineck · 07/10/2008 20:41

Nikkie - yes, my sleep problems are like that, sometimes there's no reason for waking (no bladder issues yet!) but I do quite often wake up feeling sick. I need my sleep, back to work 3 days a week and DD is 18 months old so quite demanding at times. One upside to going back to work is that I get uninterrupted sleep on the train!

I had such an easy pregnancy with DD, this is all a shock! At least the heartburn isn't too bad yet.

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 07/10/2008 20:50

Same as me!
First pregnancy had no symptoms! Didnt even get a bump til 6 months (thats when the problems started lol!)
I wake up for no reason aswell, I often lay there not able to get back to sleep n I look at the clock and 45 mins has gone by!!
OOOOooooo commuting on a train would actually kill me I think!
I usually feel sick just before I go to bed, as well as at about 5am!
My little one who was 2 two weeks ago, and has started waking up 10mins before the alarm is due to go off, its killing me!!!
When is your due???

pulapula · 07/10/2008 20:56

How HUGE was your first baby Nikki?

A couple of friends had big first babies (9-10lbs) but their second babies were only 7-8lb. My first was 8lb 12 and second was 8lb 4, but i didn't need to worry too much about size once i knew i was having an elective section.

I'm sure sometimes your 1st one might keep you more active towards the end so you don't just sit around stuffing your face. Obviously didn't stop me lol.

Is anyone else with DCs and have a nice settled routine wondering how having a new LO will affect their life and why it seemed like such a good idea to start all over again? Or is it just me. Guess I'm starting to feel a bit tired and a bit overwhelmed at the thought of having 3 DCs.

nauseous · 07/10/2008 20:58

Frazzled - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you for Thursday.

Sorry you're not sleeping Nikkie and flippineck. No advice I'm afraid. Except that I was taking toiloet naps at work which frankly was better than nothing.

I've got zero appetite and have lost about 5lbs. Wierdly I don't feel or look any slimmer which is irritating but hey ho. Also my DH said last night' " well you ARE getting a bit of a belly..." Hadn't noticed! Quite exciting.

On the other hand, been taking loads of B6 and am having almost no nausea which is great except that of course now feeling scared that I'm loosing this pg as well, but will give it a few days before I press the panic button... My sense of smell is very much in evidence and boobs are still v sore, but I'm not so tired. aaarrrggghhh. Why can't this just be easy?!!??

Detsy I agree there is b*gger all on telly which is a shame as I have cancelled all social engagements as I can't be bothered to leave the house. Where - for example has Holby City gone? (Sad I know!)

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 07/10/2008 21:07

Well pulapula after feeling a little shhepish after reading your sized babies, Madi was 8lb10oz, bearing in mind I was told throughout pregnancy that I'd have a small baby, and I was a size 8 at the time! Although was told (after found out that I was pregnant) that my partner was 10lb10oz when he was born and his dad was 14lb!!! Everyone took great pleasure in telling me that!

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 07/10/2008 21:09

pulapula how did you wangle a EC-S?
I was told No!
Despite tearing quite severly (still effects me now two years on!) and being highly traumatised by the whole thing!

pulapula · 07/10/2008 21:27

Nikkie, I was lucky I think. I was ready to make my case to the consultant but he'd seen my notes from my DDs delivery and said he had no problem with it. I think its easier once you've had a difficult birth rather than with 1st. You might be OK this time as you sound similar to me- I had an episiotomy and still tore in 2 places, plus I had to see a physio for 6 months after to work on my pelvic floor- I decided a section was a better option in terms of my recovery, and although i was nervous about that too in the run-up as there are risks too, I found the whole experience so much better, plus my DH took 6 weeks off work to help out. Don't mean to scare any first time mums- sorry if it is TMI.

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 07/10/2008 21:43

I have a phobia of hospitals (lost both my parents when I was young) so Midwife said I could either have it naturally and only be in hospital for 6 hours or fight for a c-s and have to be in for 5 days.
I really don't know what is best to be honest.
I was denied any pain relief from my midwife from hell during first birth, they took gas an air away from me, but Midwife this time said she would make every effot to make this time better for me.
I will be requesting an epidural with first contraction this time tho!

pulapula · 07/10/2008 21:52

Nikkie, sorry to hear you lost your parents in hospital when you were young. At least your MW sounds very understanding and will make the whole experience better for you. I agree on the epidural too- dont know why i didn't ask for one with DD, although wasnt really "with it" at the time and wasn't making much sense lol. Only got one when they thought I might need an emergency section if the ventouse didn't work. It was absolute bliss after 40 hours of contractions!

pulapula · 07/10/2008 21:55

PS I was in hospital for 4 days after my "natural delivery" so doesn't always follow it will be quicker. I hope you make whatever decision feels right for you nearer the time (plenty of time to decide).

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/10/2008 21:59

nikkie - I'm with you and pula about the epidural. Definitely having one this time. Didn't with DD1 (no need). Did with DD2 (after 12 hrs of agony) and even then only because they were threatening emergency section. Absolutely marvellous, could still move legs, felt pressure to push, normal delivery with no pain!
Will be requesting one the minute I'm through those labour suite doors this time.

By the way, think I am losing it. Have just spent the past half hour feeling too hot, uncomfortable, switching heating off, opening kitchen window etc. It's only just occurred to me that maybe I should take off my (thick) jumper and socks! Duh

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 07/10/2008 22:06

LOL Frazzled!
I have same problem, but other way round, I am frezzing and going round turning up all the heating!

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 07/10/2008 22:08

pulapula, thank you for your kind words.

I have already had one appointment with Midwife and have official appointment next week, she seems nice so far.

I am worried tho!

Is anyone else due 15th May??

Gosh, this thread really does move fast and being in a different time zone doesn't help!

I'm having trouble sleeping too - as I did with my previous 2 pregnancies - I'm exhausted all day then when I get into bed have really restless legs and toss and turn, it's so annoying.

Not in maternity clothes yet but jeans starting to fell a little snug and I'm only 6 weeks

There were some comments way back about soft cup bras/nursing bras and I just want to recommend Bravissimo. They only cater for D cup plus but they actually have some un-hideous nursing bras with - wait for it - matching pants!!! Unheard of when I had my first 2! My own knockers are out of control now - I'm a generous 34J without the assistance of pregnancy - I may need the use of industrial scaffolding if things get any worse !

frazzled Hope all is well, I'm sure everything is fine, I've had spotting throughout all my pregnancies including this one and all was well - symptoms are a good sign.

rubiesmum I'm a SAHM, and was just saying to a friend today how disappointed my husband must be with me as a "housewife" - I just about manage the kids OK, but I think my house looks worse now than when I was working !! I ask my husband if he would rather me read books to the children or clean toilets - that keeps him quiet

MrsEvs · 08/10/2008 03:43

Oh, meant to add some light relief on the big baby topic. Both my girls were 9lbs 10oz - I see many of you saying, but that gets me NO respect in my family! Me and all my siblings were all over 10 lbs and all my siblings kids have been over 10lbs too. When I rang to say DD1 had been born my sister said "that's not a baby - call me back when you have a 10 pounder!).

This stems from my grandmother who had 8 children, all at home with no assisntace, all of whom were over 10 (and one 14 - ouch!), except my uncle John. He came after the 14 pounder and was a respectable 9 1/2 lbs. My grandmother however was so convinced he was a weakilng and might die in the night that she called out the priest at 3am to baptise him, lest he wasted away and went to limbo .

I was the only person in the hopsital with DD2 wishing for a 10 pounder! Sorry to go so off topic, just thought everyone could do with a laugh!

CoteDAzur · 08/10/2008 06:18

DD was 9 lbs. The birth was horrific (honestly thought it looked like a horror film), and I ended up with a huge episiotomy that remained painful for about a year.

With this one, I will ask for the option of a cesarean, if it turns out to be above 8 pounds. Whatever anyone thinks of c-sections, I saw friends a week after a c-section and I know what I was like. And I was in far worse shape.

daizydoo · 08/10/2008 07:24

I don't want to scare the 1st timers, but I had a 10lb baby last time. We also spent a week in hospital due to the birth. If it looks like I am going to have a big baby this time I'm going to ask for a c-section. I think genetics may have something to do with it as I have a very tall DH and brothers and my grandma gave birth naturally to babies between 10-12lb!

Last night I felt really light headed, thankfully DH had just come in. A very early night seems to have done the trick

CoteDAzur · 08/10/2008 07:59

I stayed in hospital for 4 days, and even then was upset they kicked me out because I couldn't walk nor stand for extended periods of time, let alone sitting which was impossible.
