Reban, Sorry to hear all that stress - it's not nice the unknown and all that, but a good thing that you are being closely monitored, plus the fact that you've had small babies previously is reassuring?
I'm the other extreme - the larger centile (75th) so thankful for the C-section!
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this - usually when I lean forward a little (not always) at first I thought it was little kicks but it's way too consistent with the timing, and then I thought it was babies heartbeat, but it's way too slow. I checked my pulse when I felt it last and my own pulse was going much faster as well. It;s just so consistant but wondering if it's something to do with one of us' pulse due to leaning forward and slowing down blood supply or something? Anyone know?

pixsix · 30/09/2008 17:07

Reban and effie I'm so sorry you're having such a worrying time. Like WG I'm not sure what to say but hope they have reassuring news for you both when you next go in.

kmp1 · 30/09/2008 17:47

Think i've got the answer - it's apparently the baby hiccuping. Thought it was something else, but seems like many people feel this around 27+ weeks! Wierd!

Veggiemummy · 30/09/2008 18:06

oh Reban you poor thing, i'm not sure if this helps but i had to help a mum once who had a tiny fullterm baby, all the doctors thought there must be something wrong and they were making her express and supplement her feeds, as far as i could see the baby was doing well at a couple of days old but was just teeny weeny (was soooo cute though) anyway i asked to have a look at her other 2 boys growth charts and her first son had been the same. I know this doesn't mean it will be the same for you but it can happen. I guess there can be lots of reasons and they just want to cover all the bases.

Also Twisties are an australian cheese snack thinks like wotsits but all kind of twisted. my mum had sent a big pack over to me and i was munching on them on the way home from work and i lost them all!!!!

reban · 30/09/2008 18:17

thanks for all your messages of support and i am very grateful they are monitoring the situation very closesly .. although my DP thinks this is causing more stress then if they were not

28 weeks is a good milestone to get to .. a friend of a friend of mine who tends to have very premature babies and her consultant was trying to get her to 28 weeks this time as they feel that babies have a much higher survival rate after that. Also on my scan today they said baby was 2lb (est) which to me seems quite substantial for 28 weeks but just not sccording to all my charts.

I have had a bit if a lie down so not quite so wound up with stress as i was earlier .. sorry at the me thread again but hugs to everyone xx

Veggiemummy · 30/09/2008 18:25

don't apologise for talking about yourself thats the point of this thread really. I realise that they have measured you baby quite small and i am not saying they are completely wrong but they measured DS at 35 weeks as 6lb and estimated he would be just over 7lb and he came out 8lb 2oz. just remember to take care of yourself tell dh the only way you can really relax is by having a prenatal massage!!!

Veggie Oh no re the Twisties!! Did you drop them? That's nice of your Mum - I'm craving Dim Sims (like at the fish and chip shops and steamed!)There's a company in London who delivery Aussie food but they've been out of them for ages!!

reban glad you are feeling better

Veggiemummy · 30/09/2008 20:03

i know was not happy about losing my twisties.

also DS hiccuped loads when i was pregnant with him, feels very weird but completely normal, funny when you having a bath as you see ripples on the water around your belly in rhythm with the hiccups.

Back to work for me this morning. I'm still tired, but SO much better than I was. Only prob is that two days off have set me nicely into 'wind down' mode - but I still have three weeks to go! Have decided to cancel two business trips though. Am I getting sensible at last?! Lol

pixsix · 01/10/2008 07:46

Glad you're feeling a bit better Verso, good luck for today.

rosmerta · 01/10/2008 08:57

verso does indeed sound like you're getting sensible! Glad you're feeling better

veggie meant to say, I'm enjoying the Tara Lee dvd. I wish there was a class I could go to but for some reason, the local adult education dept cancelled the classes.

reban sorry to hear your stress atm. Like the others have said, at least they are monitoring you and the baby. Hopefully it will all be ok.

I feel so full of cold today, I almost wish I was working so I could take a day off!

Beans33 · 01/10/2008 09:32

I'm definitely in wind down mode, but unfortunately still have 5.5 weeks to go - and I am counting. Plus we're really really busy, which is frustrating. I usually do nothing!

I went to yoga class last night and I just don't think I have the mindset for it. I can't take it seriously at all and it makes me cringe a bit. All the ohmming - I'm rubbish - I mime. And at the end, the teacher puts on this appalling baby voice and says "thank you mummies, thank you babies" and I want to puke! It's terrible. Plus lots of the positions are really uncomfortable - when we have to sit on our heels and things - ouch! I've paid til the end of November, though, so I have to keep going, damn it!!! Never mind. I just wish I was better at chatting to new people, then I'd be making new friends etc!

Verso - glad you're feeling better, that's great news!

daisydora · 01/10/2008 10:28

verso - glad your feeling better. I only work mon, tues & weds so am not going in today! Will be back on Monday as I do feel bit better today, just sinuses hurting a bit

Am also in wind down mode now, will have 4 weeks left when I go back next week & can't wait to finish.

reban - sorry to hear about your worries at the mo. I'm sure baby will be fine and they are just making sure by monitoring both of you.

SummerLightning · 01/10/2008 10:35

hooray for verso getting sensible!! Very impressed at your work dedication though!

reban sorry to hear about your stress, sorry not got anything helpful to add, but hope it is all ok.

beans I know what you mean about the yoga. The ones I go to are not that bad that way, but there are bits that just don't do it for me, eg breathing with the baby, ommmm ahhh, etc. But the actual yoga, though I feel I am not doing much at the time, makes me feel really good afterwards! The "thankyou mummies, thankyou babies" sounds totally chunder making though! The class I was originally going to has been changed from "pregnancy yoga" to "yoga for women" - that is really good, as they can do less baby stuff in it, but it is not as good for meeting people as you cannot assume people are pregnant unless they are heavily so!

I can't believe you are shy though, you should definitely talk to people

I have so long to go at work! Still 9 weeks, but 6 days holiday to take in that time. Am going to work 2 4 day weeks and then 2 3 day weeks near the end I think, so only 4 weeks til I can start working shorter weeks! Talking of work, I should do some!

Turniphead1 · 01/10/2008 10:46

Reban sorry its all so worrying for you right now. Hope it all turns out ok and that the little one isn't as little as they think.

Verso glad you are feeling better.

rosmerta - sorry you have a cold - really horrid. Have you tried some echinacea?

can I just say that Twisties sound gross

Beans laughing at your discription of yoga! The best bit I used to like was the meditation at the end! (I used to have a nice kip and wake up with some dribble down the side of my face...nice)

Got my DH's cousin coming today with her BF to stay for the "weekend" - Wed to Sun?? Could really do without it tbh. Think I will be quite forthright - show them where everything is, ie bread, tea etc and tell them to help themselves as can't be doing with waiting on someone at the moment!

Beans33 · 01/10/2008 11:15

Turnip - I conk out in meditation as well. since my cold I have started humming as I fall asleep and a couple of weeks ago, in the meditation bit, I did a massive hum as I started to slide towards deep sleep. V embarrassing and had to pretend to cough to cover it up. Oops! Last night we had a birth story during our meditation bit. I was really cross as was looking forward to a bit of a kip. Anyway, this story was pretty graphic, the girl was describing how she started leaking liquid in bed and wasn't sure if it was discharge and her husband thought she might be weeing. I just didn't really need to know all that detail.

But reminds me, I must get a plastic mattress cover for leaking parts, boobs and various other orifices. And disposable knickers. Pregnancy/childbirth is so glam!!!

Turniphead1 · 01/10/2008 11:25

Beans lol
I always just put a couple of flat towels under my fitted sheet in the last month. HATE plastic sheets etc, they make you sweat (and sometimes you get the sweats in the first few weeks with breastfeeding - it's something to do with hormones and is horrid).

Beans33 · 01/10/2008 11:36

Turnip - that's a great idea - although we've got posh egyptian cotton sheets, which I don't want to get ruined - might see if I can get hold of a cheap and nasty polyester one for the duration of various dribbles.

I also heard last week that for breastfeeding it's ESSENTIAL to have some savoy cabbage in the fridge. Apparently putting the leaves in your bra during breastfeeding is an absolute life saver - takes away all the heat and pain.

Olipop · 01/10/2008 11:54

Morning girls.
Thanks for the info on the feeding chair Rosmerta..that website would be great. 80 quid sounds like a perfect amount!

Reban - sorry you are having such worries. Hope all goes well in your next checkup.

KMP1 - Minipop gets hiccups loads too, as did DS1...it's quite cute but can get annoying too!

GettingBiggerBird · 01/10/2008 13:23

Hello everyone.

Sorry to hear about growth worries, Reban.

I'm in to my final month at work, yippee! My desk is already virtually cleared - not that I'm keen to go .

Savoy cabbage: I'd definitely agree though it's very unglam.

Had a scan on Monday, all going fine though I am carrying 5lbs of baby already at 27 weeks, no wonder I feel so tired. The boy is on the 75th percentile. They are now both breach, so so much for me thinking my acupuncturist had got the girl to move . And my consultant managed to slip in a priceless comment when I was quizzing him about natural delivery: apparently, second twins delivered naturally tend to have a lower IQ than second twins delivered by C-section. Do you ever wish you could un-hear something? I mean, it's not as if I'd even asked him for pros and cons, he knows my preference. Hurumph...

PMSL at your comments about hating the hippy bits in the yoga classes, I used to be like that too but now fully embrace all the chanting - probably scaring all the other mums-to-be in the class.

mibbes · 01/10/2008 13:30

kmp we tried dim sims at South Melbourne market - yum !

I finally found a local yoga class that accepts pregnant ladies so was there last night for the 2nd time - very good indeed. The lady gives the pregnant ladies alternatives for some of the moves - I come home soo chilled ! Thankfully there is no oohmming from my lady

Beans I can't believe we have 5 weeks after this - ooohhh it is all so soon ! eeek ! and OMG do we need a plastic sheet for the bed ?! and if so where do I get one ?

Ooohh I want to have baby hiccups too !

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2008 13:33

Beans i have no idea why they put a birth story on during your meditation, you are supposed to clear you mind during meditation not concentrate on something. I have been doing yoga for a while and was a bit nervous at first about the Om and chanting but actually once you get into it its fine, apart from the spiritual stuff it is a great way to control you exhalation which is a big part of doing the breathing properly and opening your throat (good for early stages of labour also ladies) If you really don't want to do it though but want the benefit of the breathing imagine when you are breathing in and out that you are really opening up your throat you might find you make a kind of raspy sound but it is a really good way of relaxing and getting your breathing right (a really important thing in yoga) not all yoga classes are like that so don't give up maybe try another as there would be more near you. I know what you mean about the 'thank you mummies' thing, if she is really into the yoga stuff she should just say namaste and leave it that.

Wow just caught up on a few days worth of posts.

Reban try not to worry I have heard that the 4th child can be smaller. Not sure why or whether this is just an old wives tale.

Katie what a hero!

Hugs to everyone who feels rough.

Feeling rather tired today. Not sure how I am going to manage another 9 weeks at work if it gets too much I guess I will have to speak to the boss about maybe working at home one day or week or something.

I finanlly ordered my pram on Monday night, i'm sooooooooooooooo excited getting organised makes it so much more real. DH also picked out a lovely babygro and snowsuit. So happy he is taking such an active interest (he normally hates shopping).

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2008 13:39

for all you ladies into Yoga there is a mum and baby yoga weekend that is put on about 5 times a year by a group of women who teach yoga and alternative therapies, it is down near the border of wales and you take you new baby along and it is lovely. I did it when DS was 5month old and it was just such a nice thing to do. You stay on an organic farm that is run by this couple who do all the food (which is amazing) and you are totally pampered for the weekend, it's expensive but luuuurvely. It's called mamaheaven and it is heaven.
