I've done it....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

VBAC here too. Slings I used were wilkinet from 2 weeks and a coorie/peerie, then from 10 weeks until 14 months, the hug a bub, which I absolutely adore. Need to use the coorie again now so that DD can sit round the bump as you can't do side carrying with the hug-a-bub, but otherwise its fantastic as they happily sleep in it, knowing you are there for them!

LenniEd · 07/11/2008 21:07

Not sure if it is any reassurance Kittenpaws but I was in hospital over Xmas with DD and it really wasn't all that bad - they allowed families in for most of the time rather than the usual visiting hours and everyone was very festive. All the women who had older children had them in the ward opening gifts etc. - not ideal but still nice. I have started doing Christmas things with DD now so that it isn't all about the one day just in case this baby decides to come early. There are loads of things you can do in advance like turkey dinner with crackers, making a big thing of doing the trimmings, going to a grotto etc. etc.

This one is transverse so mw has started mentioning possibilities of c/s and/or ecv if he doesn't turn and the week I would be given a date for a c/s would be 23-30 Dec - but she said they would be unlikely to schedule a section immediately before or after Xmas.

LG&T - co-sleeper is an arms reach one. Have got the mini version which lasts 'til 6 months rather than the full size one which lasts a couple of years. You can only get the full size one in the UK at the moment from here but I managed to hunt down a mini on ebay - if I hadn't I had this place in Ireland as a back up

chefswife · 08/11/2008 03:38

we know we are having a girl and have decided on her name, violet may. we can't agree on a stroller though. go figure.

rrrayray · 08/11/2008 07:36

Morning ladies.

Just a quick catch up... landed last night & off into London today to meet my parents and little sister. Its her 21st birthday & she wanted to see the sound of music on the west end as her birthday treat, so we?re all decending on London from our different locations!
Spain was a lovely break. Was there for 5 days, Weather was OK, until yesterday when it was beautiful, sunny and 23 c!! Again, nobody battered an eyelid at my bump checking in, they were too busy telling me my bag was too heavy
Chefswife- no i didn?t find bump swelled up, well if it did, not noticeably so. We are also using May as our middle name for our little Girl. I think we may end up calling her Esme.... But Sssssshhh We?re keeping very tight lipped about it. So if any of you ladies don?t like it... Please don?t tell me ..I don?t want to be put off!!!!!!
I have a feeling my Beanie maybe head down too. Downstairs had rather more pressure, my lady bits feel rather swollen, and the kicks are up by my ribs. Next midwife appointment on Monday, so no doubt we?ll see!
Bought some beautiful baby bits in spain- a lovely pink quilited overnight bag, a little dress, baby grow, a little top and 2 pairs of the cutest baby tights. Zara over there is the same prices as here, only in Euros, so you make quite a saving! The mini Zara baby is Adorable!!!!!
Right, well i better hop in the shower to make my train to London on time! Will have to have a real read of the thread soon & catch up. Hope your all well!!

morning

rray - good to hear from you sounds like you had a gr8 time
i am sleeping better too gtdab

Spink · 08/11/2008 10:28

Morning!
rray esme is a lovely lovely name! glad I'm not the only one with swollen bits, it feels so odd.. but don't think baby is head down - all my kicks seem to be really low down, all below bellybutton level and most much lower, over to my right side on my knicker line - someone told me that sounds transverse - how does it compare to your movements, LenniEd?

well done on sorting most of your Christmas shopping MsSparkle! I'd better get on with it and order stuff online, no way am I going near the shops... I used to love shopping but now it always either with ds or really rushed. I am loving your carrot updates by the way

fourlittlefeet is the hug a bub good from birth? I like the sound of it cos it seems to leave you hands free but worried it is a bit complicated to tie... and expensive.

argh must go the laptop is flashing its battery light at me

fourlittlefeet · 08/11/2008 11:56

spink, I used the wilkinet as was recommended that over the bjorn; it is more comfortable on your back and doesn't need adjusting if you parter is a different size/shape from you. It is a faff to put on as you need a table to tie the baby into it, then lean over to get on to you. However the wilkinet is quite structured so baby is securely upright, which I liked, as it helped with winding. You can use the hug a bub, but it doesn't give as much support so worried as couldn't see the babys face (also, didn't have the hug a bub til later so will have to see if I'm braver this time round)!

MrsAay · 08/11/2008 15:36

Thank you to all who responded to my iron tablet plea for information!!

Finally got hold of Dr and she said the ferrous fumarate tablets were less likely than the sulphate ones to make me sick. I'm meant to take three a day, but I'm taking two and so far that seems OK.

She says she'll re-test me in 4 weeks and I may be able to reduce dose then.

Thank goodness we are all on the final stretch of this pregnancy marathon -- I've got 10 wks to due date but it looms like the last few miles over Tower Bridge on a hot day.

Witchandchips - I'm 42 and planning a vaginal birth - its not necessary to go for a C-section etc just because of your age. Is it your first? You need to take lots of things into account and it's best to get a variety of opinions from lots of medical people. Generally speaking, as long as there is nothing unusual with your baby and you are in good physical shape and don't have any medical problems, then it is completely likely that you can give birth without having to have a C-section. But it's a choice that only you can make in the end. Good luck.

MrsAay · 08/11/2008 15:41

D'Oh!!! I should have said I'm 41. No idea why I wrote 42!

LenniEd · 08/11/2008 20:08

Spink - my movements are mainly on my right side high up and on my left side low down but above knicker line. I am assuming the right side ones are arms and the left side ones are kicks - saying that though I have felt movements all over the place on and off the last few days so am hoping he has decided to budge.

Am getting loads of BH all of a sudden - had lots at about 20 weeks and then they went off again and now have come back. Reminds me of what is to come... panic, panic...

TALLULAHBELLE · 08/11/2008 20:18

Witch no idea why you were told that. I had DD @ 38 & will be 40 when DT's arrive. No one at any point said this was a factor for c sect. Is it because of previous sect? Daisy on my PN thread just had a vba2c & am sure is similar age. see her birth thread She is a lovely lady & would be happy to advise you though may be a little busy right now.

rrrayray · 08/11/2008 20:35

LenniEd- i havent conciously felt any BH yet. Is this normal for a first timer?

Spink - yes downstairs is rather uncomfortable and swollen-ish. But as my best friend (one i went to spain with) rightly said, its also because of everything morning forwards a bit with the bump.

Just got back from Day in London seeing Sound of Music. Was Good, but not as good as The Lion king or Grease - in my opinion! But on the tube i was rather disgruntled that niether journey anyone gave me their seat. Most just Stared at my bump.... i mean i thought it was getting pretty big, but maybe they were so dumb they didn't realise i was pregnant? Who knows!
So tired from all the walking!!

witchandchips - i'm thirty nine and there's been no suggestion from anybody that i should do otherwise than push her out myself... except for me, to myself, in my lazier/more scared moments...

moosemama · 08/11/2008 21:56

Hi all,

Been incommunicado for a week, but picked up repaired laptop this morning and am now back online.

Gosh, what a lot of newbies there's been while I've been gone!

Have had a quick scan through the posts from last week, but am too tired to read everything. (Been to school fireworks display this evening, luvveryly icy rain and howling wind!) Am now sat here with extremely stressed dog who is freaking out and constantly trying to climb on my knee. Problem is there's not much lap left to climb on and she is by no means a small dog! Poor thing really hates fireworks!

THE GOOD NEWS: My pushchair arrived on Monday! I love it! It's a black Baby Jogger City Classic. Best thing about it is the easy fold mechanism, but it also fits our car seat and we are buying a soft carrycot (called a 'soft pram') for the first couple of months.

THE BAD NEWS: Had excruciating toothache for the past couple of days, but bizarrely only at night! Paracetamol doesn't even touch the pain and am literally petrified of dentists. (Had to be sedated just to get me in the door last time!) Not even sure it is toothache, pain is through all the teeth on my lower right jaw and sometimes my top teeth on the same time (hurting in upper right canine at the moment), plus it seems to be affecting my ear as well. It seems much worse in the cold and better when I have a warm drink. Have had it before once or twice and after a couple of days of co-codamol and ibuprofen it usually just stops, but can't take ibuprofen and there seems to be conflicting advice about the safety of co-codamol in the third trimester. Am praying it just goes away like it has before - if not, I don't know whether to try my GP or look for a dentist.

Our house is even worse chaos than it was last time I was online. We have had plumbers in to resite our boiler for two and a half days this week. That entailed having half the floorboards up upstairs and the ground floor covered in brick dust whilst simultaneously having all the windows and doors open, no heating and the water switched off! Then we had to smash out the old boiler/tank cupboard from our bedroom and the plasterer was in for a day to replaster the corner where it was and repair the ceiling. Now the only room that is not in chaos is the boys bedroom and even that had our bedding in while the plumbers were here! The plumbers are having to come back on Monday though to fix a couple of floorboards which they left loose and replace some lead pipe for copper. Still we have a new, efficient boiler and decent water pressure for the first time in years and I now have an airing cupboard which will come in very handy when little one arrives.

Can't believe there's only eight weeks left to go - and haven't even started Christmas shopping yet - am most definitely in panic mode now!

EachPeachPearMum · 08/11/2008 23:27

Just popping back in!
Sorry- had too much going on .

moosemama- sounds more like sinusitis- I always started with toothache first...
Try saline rinse, steam inhalation (with karvol or oil of olbas) see if that helps.

I have had loads of problems - heart condition playing up- spent thurs & fri in hosp- friday at the womens to monitor baby after thursdays tachycardia.... turns out I'm having contractions every 3 mins
They have stopped no, thank goodness.

Oh- this one is a BOY!

chefswife · 09/11/2008 05:47

May is her middle name. DH picked that because that was when we found out we were pregnant. sweet, eh?

tinkisexcitedabouthavingababy · 09/11/2008 08:23
