poor you mssparkle. hope nothing too serious. book says to expect more twinges and pain second time round if thats any help. only know because i have had a few myself and first time round had nothing until the big day so was panicing slightly. when dh raises his eyebrows at me when i have a pregnancy moan i say i would like you to be pregnant for just one day and then you will see! would give him a day when ds playing up too!
notjustaclevername long story but ended up going to hospital in ambulance as put back out. they were fantastic and got me into physio the next day and have been once a week since. they gave me the brace but the make name is hip brace. they said they usually charge but gave it to me for free. would gladly have paid. def worth a chat with midwife. is it spd? friend of mine also had it and when she went in for c section mentioned it to midwife and they said oh haven't seen you at our weekly spd clinic. she of course knew nothing about it so again def worth an ask. brace makes a HUGE difference to my spd and so do exercises. if you google spd exercises they should come up but if not give me a shout and i will try and insert a link. swimming good too but no breast stroke. i tend to just kick with a float like a big fat whale. best bit is that they tell you to keep your legs closed as much as possible and of course you think if i'd done that 8 months ago i wouldn't be having this problem! sorry waffle waffle but i hope thats of some help.

once again popping in to mark it then off to catch up...

missjackson · 03/11/2008 19:29

I slept in my super king-size bed alone for 3 years before I met OH, so there's no way I could cope with a smaller bed now I have to sleep with a pillow between us so that I can kind of squidge it against my bump when I lie that way how romantic!

Very tired after 2 long days at work, over 12 hours both days and I work in a studio without daylight, so it's very disorientating - yesterday my baby was really rolling around and today he's been very quiet, which is slightly worrying, but I am determined not to get anxious about movements or lack of... yesterday I drank a lot of coffee so that's probably the cause of all the action! He's head down at the moment, and at one point I was convinced he was making a bid to turn around, so I sort of held my tummy in an effort to keep him still (I sound like a mean control-freak mama already!) -- but everyone says there is no way he'll stay put for another 11 weeks!

Did anyone read the latest alchohol-in-pregnancy research? They linked light drinking (1-2 units a week) to better test scores at age 3 than if the mother drank nothing during pregnancy - I think this was weirdly just for boy babies though. With girls it was true too but statistically they couldn't detach the results from lifestyle factors (women who drink lightly are more likely to be socially advantaged than women who drink nothing). But they can do anything with statistics, right? Makes me feel better about having the odd glass of wine though... which I need right now, along with some dinner!

fourlittlefeet · 03/11/2008 20:25

Periwink, don't john lewis refund the difference if you find it cheaper elsewhere?

Periwink · 03/11/2008 20:30

Fourlittlefeet - thanks, did not think of that - will contact John Lewis tomorrow, will try my luck.

Also for those of you needing dresses for the festive season www.asos.com have just launched a maternity wear section. There are a few lovely dresses on there.

mel2005 · 04/11/2008 10:37

hi all, just wanted to add my support to all those hoping to have a homebirth. i had one with my second baby and it was a great experience. it was quick and didnt hurt as much as my first, infact i did it with almost no pain relief as the gas and air had frozen and they managed to defrost it as i was pushing DD1 out. they key is to be relaxed and move around alot, the pilates ball (£5 from argos)was great in the weeks before getting her in a good position. the midwives stay for a while afterwards to check everything is ok and they made loads of tea and took all the mess away with them. by the way there isnt much mess. i bought a pack of those disposable bed pads (like the disposable change mats but bigger for potty training toddlers at night) and a large plastic sheet. you dont have to do it in the bed, i had my little girl in the lounge leaning on the sofa as it was warmer by the logburner (january baby again). my little boy was asleep upstairs.
make sure you have loads of tea and coffee and biscuits and enough hot water to have a long shower and relax.
do make sure your bags are packed and in the car/by the door. just incase the midwives cant make it or something happens.
i would love to be having a homebirth this time as well but i cant with twins.

hope all is well mssparkle, i have been in and out of the hospital with bleeding as they think i have a small amount of placental abruption. i am confined mainly to the house and not alowed to go to far from the hospital. i have had some period pain as well but i think you do get it more with second and third babies. its best to get it checked out though. try not to worry.

Spink · 04/11/2008 11:03

I want to confess. I've just eaten 2 doughnuts with cream and strawberry jam.
feel a bit sick but quite pleased with myself. Hope you're all having good Tuesdays

mssparkle hope all is well

Just been prescribed iron tablets after a recent blood test. I was told that I was slightly anaemic. However the prescription is for ferrous fumarate tablets and I'm to take them three times a day. It says they are 210mg, so presumably that means a total daily intake of 630mg?? That seems a lot for being slightly anaemic. The normal RDA for iron is 121mg.

I took iron tablets with my last pregnancy towards the end, but I think they were ferrous sulphate and I only took one a day. I was fine with that dosage - not sick or constipated.

I got a call in to the doctor, but haven't heard back yet.

Is anyone else taking that much iron in supplements?

Or any other intelligence on the matter?

missjackson · 04/11/2008 11:43

Yey for doughnuts Spink!

pophas2boybeans · 04/11/2008 12:03

Hi all,

Can I join you please? My due date is 4th feb but the twins are going to delivered by c-section at 36 weeks on the 7th Jan.

MissHairspray · 04/11/2008 14:59

Welcome Pophas!
Just had my 31 wk midwife appointment and all well except that babs seems to be lying sideways. She said they didn't really worry until 36 weeks but any tips on how to turn him welcome! I know about crawling around on my hands and knees and sitting up straight, but are birthing balls supposed to help? And how - do you just sit on one and bounce like you are on a spacehopper?
Hope everything Ok MsSparkle.

HeathersMummy · 04/11/2008 17:26

Hi and welcome Pophas
MsSparkle, I hope everything is ok with you.
MissH, I had a birthing ball last time round and was told to do just that - bounce gently like a space hopper, or sit and sort of roll your hips around. My baby is breech at the moment, so I too need tips for turning!
I finished work on maternity leave today and it feels fantastic just waiting on DH getting home from work and we'll have a takeaway to celebrate!

chefswife · 04/11/2008 18:13

welcome pophas.

i don't have any tips on how to get the gaffers to turn but have been told that walking everyday helps. the exercise balls are difficult at first to get your balance (suck in the ab muscles) but great once you get it. i use mine all the time. love when i'm on the computer. forces you to maintain good posture. i sort of wedge my feet under the ball a little when just sitting on it.

yesterday was hell for me. i was agitated, cranky, had absolutely no energy and experiencing eating difficulties in that the food just seems to sit in my throat. violet was also extremely active and i found myself getting ticked off by all the movements. DH was very good pandering to me. he made me some plain old pasta last night for dinner. i'm totally off food that has any real taste to it. just want bland food. he brought home some cookies for me the other night from the pastry chef at work and they are the best cookies ever, honestly, but they're still on the counter. can't bear to eat them. i even declined my favorite dinner last night; juicy hamburgers with the works. am turned off meat right now. anyone else.

stripeywoollenhat · 04/11/2008 19:21

hi all and welcome pophas

mrsaay, i had really low iron and am just taking one galfer a day and it's going up again - finally stopped looking revoltingly pale in the last couple of days and am feeling much better. but maybe your iron levels are incredibly low and they want to get them up quickly? it does sound like a very high dose.

chefswife - sorry about the food aversion, i hope it passes soon.

TALLULAHBELLE · 04/11/2008 19:40

MrsAay I was given iron supplement at 18 wks to prevent anaemia (twin pg) it was 100mg once a day. I just couldn't tolerate it, made me so violently sick I was bringing up blood. Now am actually anaemic (but only slightly apparently) & have to take ferrous sulphate, 3x a day, 200mg. Have to admit to not sticking to the dose, some days just can't face them at all so am trying to eat my iron levels up.

Spink · 04/11/2008 19:54

evening everyone, well I don't recommend 2 doughnuts in one sitting after all, my sugar levels were all over the place and I felt knackered all afternoon. BOOO

I'm not sure about dosages for iron supplements - mw suggested I increase my iron uptake too as I'm a bit anaemic, I'm using a natural liquid supplement called spa tone which apparently is more easily tolerated and so less likely to cause constipation or nausea.

Pophas - hello!!

Chefswife - hope you get your taste for food back soon, what a pisser to be feeling like this now. Glad to hear your dp is looking after you.

MissHairspray - have a look at this website for some very comprehensive baby turning tips. Think they are slightly different for transverse babies than breech..

Pophas have you found this thread

rrrayray · 04/11/2008 21:16

Greetings from spain! not as warm as i would have liked, only about 17c, but at least no thick jackets required. Not been v.sunny, but hopefully tomorrow onwards?

Was mortified to sign on and this thread not to be on my active threads, Tssk Tssk!

Linzay- my Scan for Placenta is 30th Decemeber. But, since having my 20 wk scan we had a private sexing scan & that sonographer said wasn't at all low lying, so am not too concerned. worrying wont change it at all anyway.

Am suddenly feeling very pregnant, very bloated and more uncomfortable than i have been to date. Since i've been in spain have felt much less movemement. Still movement, but not as frequent. Think will give midwife a call once home Friday evening.

Off to spa tomorrow for manicure/ pedicure as Friend's parents (whom we are out here visiting) are looking after her baby. So a bit of pampering will be nice. The dad is spanish and will not take No for an answer with food.... am being force fed MASSIVE amounts of food. Lovely, but soooo much its unreal!!

Re: Doctors note. My Doctor was on hol, but said to call if any problems at the airport (friend of family) But i don't think the woman at check in even realised i was pregnant, so didn't say a peep! We'll see how the return trip goes!

Hope your all well?

elkiedee · 04/11/2008 21:54

Welcome to the newbies, does that mean there are 4 sets of twins due on the thread?

I've seen midwife three times but although not at home I get appointments to see her at the local health centre which is all of about two minutes walk, and it means I don't have to worry about the state of the house at this stage.

I'm now only due to go to the hospital for an antenatal refresher class in December and then at 41 weeks if I haven't had my baby by 2 February. I saw a doctor at the hospital yesterday but felt it was a little bit of a waste of time, he didn't look old enough to be out of medical school though he must have been.

I also wasn't impressed by being prescribed iron for tiredness without any testing - I had blood tests in 1st pregnancy which didn't detect anaemia, and it's likely that at 28 weeks and with an 18 month old I am in fact just tired. I mentioned it to my mum and even she was against me just taking the iron without a proper check that it's needed - I can do without the side effects unless I am really anaemic.
